Jeunet on OotP: "Everything was done." At the premiere of his latest movie, A Very Long Engagement, French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet was asked by several reporters why he turned down the opportunity to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. His reason was that he felt he had nothing to contribute to the film. Quote:
Articles concerning Jeunet being asked to direct OotP can be found here, here and here. David Yates is the confirmed director for 'Order of the Phoenix'. Source: Veritaserum |
Hm interesting...in a way I can see his point, but then again it could be a challenge to make that film his ...but well... |
^me too but i would be soo happy to asked to be apart of this great work... |
I've never heard of him so I couldn't care less about him not doing it. I don't mind who it is as long as it isn't Steven Spielberg or Tim Burton! |

life's never too short to do something hp!! i think maybe he was just looking for something more challenging.. maybe he would've taken it if it'd been SS and he'd help to mold the trio's talents or something.. |
^ Not really, when you think about it, alot of the work is done but the directors are involved in the visuals, how the film is shot, how it looks. Sounds as if he wanted to do it one way but was 'restricted' when really you have to stick to constraints with something like Harry Potter because it has expectations to meet. |
^ I think what he means, is that life is too short to spend time directing other people's stories....I get the feeling he'd much rather work with his own material, something he has a free creative reign over. |
Oh well I never heard of him either and just as well If some one feels like that they wouldn't do very well anyway..... |
Mmmm ok... *stares* |
hm... |
oh well...... no biggy! |
oh well.................. win some and lose some. i know who ever takes it . going to be cool. |
I'd rather someone who was incredibly interested in doing the film direct it.... He didn't seem to keen from the start... |
interesting. |
If he doesn't think he can do Hp any good then he should never even think about directing it. Personally I am gald he isn't directing it. |
He would have been GREAT! Amelie was absolutely beautiful. A visual treat and a lovely film. |
Thanks for the news! :sorcerer: |
If the script's done, does that mean we can start sending in our audition letters? Will there be an official "opening" of the casting office? |
The lady who wrote back to me last Summer, Fiona Weir, did mention that OotP casting starts, no earlier than January 2005. But that doesn't mean it will officially start now...but it's worth a shot I'd say. Which reminds me, must write in again LOL |
^Yep, I'm going to start sorting mine out... |
It is definetely too bad he felt like that about the film. I personally think there is much more to a movie than the actors and the script. |
