J.K. Rowling receives anti-homophobia award

J.K. Rowling is to be honoured by La Fondation Émergence, an equal rights Canadian lobby group, for her revelation in regards to Dumbledore's sexuality.

Rowling has expressed her gratitude but will not be able to collect the award herself - three fans will do so on her behalf.

thats pretty awesome.... i still think the whole dumbledore is gay thing is funny. funny because it doesn't matter and I find it funny that there has been such a big deal made of it all. :) Dumbledore rocks

Patronus Charm 05-21-2008 12:44 PM

second to post. Now this is a noteworthy award!

Antwone Thomas 05-21-2008 12:59 PM

This is so ridiculous to me. If being a homosexual is not a big deal why is there WHOLE award dealing with people who are anti-homophobic. I really am tired of this Dumbledore being gay thing. Sometimes I'm just so angry with people. This shouldn't matter at all.

HarryThePotter 05-21-2008 01:13 PM

Awesome!

Well.. I don't know how I feel about the Dumbledore'gay'thing, because, I NEVER thougt that he was gay, but on the other hand, its great, because I never thougt it would happen.. Did thay make any sense?

RedheadQueen 05-21-2008 01:27 PM

well Kudos to Jo for getting the award, but which fans get to accept it for her?! I wanna go!!

Padie 05-21-2008 01:31 PM

That sounds fab ^_^ And it's really sweet of her to let some fans get the award for her. They'll be some lucky people.

BreBear 05-21-2008 01:31 PM

Well, go Jo :D!

I agree people blew this out of proportion. Most poeple were acting as this was such a bad thing. People now a day just need to let everyone live happyly the way they want. Gay or straight everyone desires to be happy.

Panther2000 05-21-2008 01:50 PM

Em Ok

it is nice & all. But what? are they just making up awards now just for the sake of making up a new award.

Good god I wonder what they will come up with next.

Very good point!

Apollonia 05-21-2008 02:55 PM

The problem is that although many HP fans feel that being gay is not a big deal, a lot of other HP fans felt otherwise. Some have totally sworn off the series because of this revelation. Some have even tried to rationalize that although they claim not to be anti-gay, they didn't like the fact that Dumbledore was gay. I think it's sad that people are making a bid deal about the sexuality of a fictional character because they don't believe that he should be gay.

Sirius_Padfoot 05-21-2008 03:42 PM

^I agree with that. I don't think being gay is such a big deal either. anyone here been on imdb.com? There was this topic where a Harry Potter fan showed a sad picture of Harry crying over Dumbledore's body. Then this one guy comes up and says, "Who cares? It's just a dead gay guy." I don't understand why people mock at homosexuality, they're just people like you and me

elmo_the_emo 05-21-2008 03:58 PM

well at least we now that she doesn't have any problem to people being gay.....*shrugs*

Serena 05-21-2008 05:43 PM

I agree with you guys, if gay people are supposed to be considered normal, then why making all this a big deal? The thing is that people still don't feel confortable about the subject *sigh* sad though

I have to agree with you. I mean, kudos to Jo for winning another award, but this is a little too weird for me. Why come up with another award just for homosexuals? Why do they need their own award? I don't get it.

aliciahutchinson 05-21-2008 07:52 PM

It is an unusual award to be receiving, I'm not sure if I have heard anything of the sort before, but on the other hand, it's great because everyone deserves happines, no matter their sexuality!!! Go Jo!!!!!

Hermionespell 05-21-2008 08:12 PM

That's nice :)

Well, as long as gays and lesbians are not being treated equally, there is a need to make people aware of hatred against or fear of homosexuals. We on this site might assure ourselves that we are tolerant and open-minded, but there are many many people who are not.
Giving this award to a person as well-known and respected as Jo is a fairly easy and straightforward way of raising consciousness. (Although I'm sure there are people worthier of the award, this is guaranteed to bring more publicity.)

GlamofTheDead 05-21-2008 10:59 PM

Congrats Jo

Shopgirl3876 05-22-2008 12:23 AM

Congrats to her, weird award show though.

half_blood_prince 05-22-2008 04:56 AM

thats awsome congrats jo

FoxFire 05-22-2008 01:43 PM

Hmm. Funny that a children's story has aroused some of the most controversial topics around. Makes you think about children's literature...
