The Times reports that the Sky Arts channel are trying to compile a list of the key cultural landmark moments of the past 21 years. The launch of Harry Potter, in 1997, with the release of Philosopher's Stone, has been longlisted. Quote:
The release of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone in 1997 launched a franchise which proved the publishing industry can create Hollywood-style blockbusters.

13. 2003, Edward Said’s final public appearance at the Hay Festival
The aim is to narrow the list down to 10 moments to mark the 21st anniversairy of the Hay-on-Wye literary festival. Viewers of the channel will be able to vote for their favourites. Quote:
A spokesman for Sky Arts said: “These are our proposed 21 events but we invite objections and recommendations. We will conduct a UK survey and reveal the results in the week before the festival.”
The festival in Powys, Wales, takes place on May 22nd - June 1st. Other categories included in the longlist feature art & design, music, film, theatre and opera & dance.  | |
