Half-Blood Prince in Best Children's reads of all time list

Harry Potter has featured on a list of the best children's reads of all time, with Half-Blood Prince coming in at #6. The sixth novel was the only one of the series to make it onto the list. A total of 4,000 people participated in the poll conducted by the charity Booktrust, who run the government-backed Bookstart initiative that gives free packs of books to children.

Quote:

Viv Bird, director of Booktrust, said: "It's wonderful to see the enduring popularity of these books which are loved by generation after generation."
The top 50 can be seen at the above link.

Oh wow, I haven't even read, let alone heard of, the ones in numbers 2 and 3!xD

anyway, well done HP!

FoxFire 02-22-2008 03:33 PM

Some of my favorite books of all time are on there! Roald Dahl's books are so great  The Secret Garden! *huggles my tattered copy*

I wonder why HBP was the only one to end up on that list. It's not even the best one, in my opinion. Maybe because it's the one where Dumbledore dies. Pretty pivotal stuff.

RemusBlack 02-22-2008 03:57 PM

Well done.
My favourite book of the series! :D

But I can't believe that griffin_girl hasn't heard of The Famous Five! O_O

Maxilocks 02-22-2008 04:57 PM

I'm more excited for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, if truth be told. I LOVE it. That, and LoTR, have got to be my favourite fantasies. EVER.

=D

Dawlish 02-22-2008 05:00 PM

Well deserved! Harry Potter shall never die! (not from our hearts ever! [ well ok, atleast mine! ;P])

whatsup2m5 02-22-2008 08:52 PM

Thats really cool! I can't believe that the other books didn't make it ahead of this one especially considering it is one of the darker books.

Blackened 02-22-2008 10:28 PM

Ohh, nice. I wouldn't have thought HBP would be the only one making the list, but better than nothing :D

half_blood_prince 02-23-2008 05:18 AM

I'm more surprised that most of the rest, especially PS, are not also on the list.

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 02-23-2008 10:48 PM

That is so Brilliant

Night_Owl 02-24-2008 12:16 AM

OtterySt.Catchpole 02-24-2008 04:33 AM

Still I'm going to read Enid Blyton now ... but Dahl is overrated ...

So this is what they call propaganda? *smirks at EmmaRiddle* The title of the article is:

Harry Potter straggles in a 'disappinting' sixth in children's book poll

Seriously, anyone making it onto one of these polls should feel just honored ... maybe the person who wrote the original article is a jerk? *pokes the Daily Mail* seriously, Captain Underpants? *pokes* Miffy? WTF???!!!!111111

This poll looks seriously twisted  I swear I never take these things too seriously, popularity is so fleeting, and it always depends on who you poll, but I bet you HBP won cuz of the H/G! *fires the cannons* Harry smooching Ginny is as good as it gets in literature ... :faint:

HP rocks!

Ginpotter 02-24-2008 06:52 AM

Great! I love book 6 so much but what about DH?? I thought it would be there too.

That's not propaganda, it's framing. The agenda is already set but the article, the way it's constructed, tells you how to think about the poll, rather than just presenting the facts, as I've tried to do. The Daily Mail are jerks though. As are their readers. But at the end of the day most stories need a focus, and this was it.
