WHAT?! I didn't know Richard Griffiths wasn't coming back! I always loved him as Uncle Vernon. Did he say why he wasn't coming back? Does this mean he's not going to be in DH either?

It's good that Petunia will be in it at least, though I wonder how they'll do it without Vernon....

I don't believe he gave a reason as to why he wasn't returning for HBP, no, sorry; and this has nothing to do with DH casting, so don't worry about that, yet.

I had heard that he was going to busy with some broadway work, or plays of some sort.

I assume they will just say that he is at work or something.

Though, I am kind of hoping Dudley isn't there either.

I sort of picture it like this:
Dumbledore comes to get Harry and gives the entire 'sirius' will' speech. Then instead of complaining to all of the Dursleys about how Harry was treated, he scolds Petunia alone, for being the blood relative who did nothing.

Then in DH, maybe JKR will let Steve Kloves write in Petunia apologizing. That was the one thing I didn't like about DH, that Petunia didn't apologize. I know she was supposed to be heartless .. but I really wanted her to have that sympathy moment.

Nah, her not apologizing was much more powerful then if she did apologize. Plus, she was on the edge of doing it.

How are they going to do a " muggle" scene without Richard Griffiths?....

Doesn't matter to me. When Griffiths said that he was not in the film I assumed that they cut the entire scene with the Dursleys. But it seems that the scene is there but quite altered.
Anyway, I have to admit that I loved Griffiths' performance until OotP where he was horrid.Dunno why...

Well in my opinion, some Dursley is better than no Dursley at all. It was a shame they weren't in GoF. They are always a fantastic way to open the movie, just as they are a fantastic way of opening the books. You know that when the Dursleys are around you'll get some great comedy.

thats weird... Uncle Vernon wont be in the film but Aunt Petunia will?? well i hope Dudley does show up... i guess im used to the three of them always being together..

I don't think this is too unusual. After all, you do want to get straight into the action. And as seen in DH, it is Dudley and Petunia whose journey's are most important.

I would rather have no Uncle Vernon at all than have a different actor play that role. It was hard enough for me to get used to the new Dumbledore as it is.
