| | | Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them new trailer reveals Newt's Hogwarts expulsion
Here's a fairly quick rundown of the second Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer released Sunday evening ( available here), that star Eddie Redmayne introduced at this year's MTV Movie Awards.
The clip starts with a fairly shocking revelation - Newt Scamander was expelled from Hogwarts! Albus Dumbledore, then the Transfiguration Professor, naturally had Newt's back because that's just what Dumbledore does. Newt was apparently kicked out for doing something that endangered students' lives and involved beasts... sounds like Hagrid could definitely sympathize.
The trailer begins with a voiceover from Colin Farrell's character, the American Auror Percival Graves: Quote: Graves: You're an interesting man, Mr. Scamander. Just like your suitcase, there's much more to you than meets the eye.
Kicked out of Hogwarts for endangering a human life, with a beast...
And one of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion. I wonder... what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander?

We start off in a boat arriving to Ellis Island below Manhattan, in 1926. An aerial shot shows Newt Scamander, and suitcase, sitting on a bench on said boat.
Newt glimpses lower Manhattan's skyline upon arrival, while a creature slowly creeps its way out of his suitcase...
Newt, with Jacob (Dan Fogler) watching by as the wizard does a bit of magic with the aid of some magical plants (true as any Hufflepuff).
A well-dressed Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) leads Newt and Jacob to a dark and somewhat seedy looking place in New York City...
This looks like the inside of any building back in 1920s NYC - No-Maj or Wizarding, though it is probably somewhere inside the MACUSA headquarters at the Woolworth Building. Newt queues up.
Newt stands in one of the immigration queues at Ellis Island, ready to be inspected and let into New York City.
As Newt readies himself to show his enchanted briefcase (which contains magical creatures and their habitats) he sets it to 'Muggle Worthy' so no one gets suspicious. After this is checked in, Newt opens his briefcase and it shows nothing than some clothes, a map to New York City, a pair of binoculars, and his Hufflepuff scarf.
A great looming shot of the MACUSA headquarters reveals a massive headshot of President Seraphina Picquery (Carmon Ejogo) - not dissimilar to the one in the Harry Potter films of Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge in Order of the Phoenix.
Tina leads Newt into the MACUSA headquarters. Remember that she is well acquainted as she was once an Auror.
Here are some wizards reading New York's magical newspaper, The New York Guest? Godst? Hard to tell.
Newt and Jacob are standing atop a flight of stars, while Tina and Queenie (Alison Sudol) seem to be giving a password into what is probably some kind of speakeasy.
A glimpse of NYC 2016 and Newt looking around the area.
Here we see the inside of a massive dining hall, for Senator Henry Shaw (played by Josh Crowley). Jon Voight plays Henry Shaw, Sr., though the significance of their roles in the story is still unclear.
Jacob, a No-Maj, is astounded by every day magic being done by the Goldstein sisters in the ladies' apartment.
This may be our first look at the elusive Modesty, played by Faith Wood-Blagrove.
A shot of a rather annoyed looking Graves inside the MACUSA headquarters.
Tina and Newt seem to be hiding from some figures in what looks like an underground tunnel, but it looks like Newt finally let one of his Fantastic Beasts loose...
Chaos and possible destruction comes to Henry Shaw's gala...
Looks like Newt's found himself in a speakeasy...
And it's OK, we have an adorable little magical creature on the loose (with a purse)? Might it possibly be a gold-loving NIFFLER??
A new shot of a rather worried-looking Queenie.
Newt flees the scene by apparating from the rooftop.
Graves warns President Picquery of how dangerous Newt (is it Newt? Could it someone else...) might be...
The final scene shows Newt and Jacob sleeping in Tina and Queenie's beds (it is the ladies' beds as the bookshelf next to Jacob has a book titled 'Living with Legilimency' - and of course Queenie is a very accomplished Legilimens).
Newt gets out of bed, pops open his briefcase and... steps into it. The last scene shows Newt beckoning Jacob over with his hand, the only part of Newt that can be seen out of the briefcase. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, all written by J.K. Rowling, hits theaters and IMAX this November. |
