The Oscar-winning actor put a lot of thought into what kind of wand Newt should have - something simple that doesn't involve killing any creatures. More on that can be read below. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The wand chooses the wizard, but what happened when Eddie chose Newt’s wand? <a href="https://t.co/PH4iS2LfxN">https://t.co/PH4iS2LfxN</a> <a href="https://t.co/ixpquxyzlt">pic.twitter.com/ixpquxyzlt</a></p>— Pottermore (@pottermore) <a href="https://twitter.com/pottermore/status/758723717732130816">July 28, 2016</a></blockquote>

The art department comes up with these wand sketches and you just pinch yourself really aggressively and try to have a really cool face when you go: “OK, my wand choice, let’s have a look…”’
‘I liked the idea that it was very simple, Newt’s wand.’
‘It’s made of organic materials. Some of the choices were fossilised, but I didn’t like the idea of the death of creatures. Not for Newt. There was something slightly sort of Mother of Pearly about this one and the simplicity of the wood, I liked that.
'He’s quite a humble guy, I think, Newt, and he’s certainly not an elaborate guy. Emotionally he is perhaps but not in his aspirations. So that was the wand I liked. But it also looked like it had been whittled, it was the sort of thing you could imagine a craftsman working on.’
| One thing to note: a previous trailer revealed that Newt was expelled from Hogwarts, and as such by protocol, his wand should have been destroyed. Mystery surrounds the wand Newt carries in the movie - did he manage to keep and/or repair the original wand he got from Ollivander's at 11 years old that was used at Hogwarts, or is this a new wand that he got under dubious circumstances (or even created himself)?
