David Heyman: Del Toro not in the running for Deathly Hallows

Earlier we had told you about Guillermo Del Toro, a popular director, who was interested in possibly working on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. According to David Heyman, the Harry Potter series producer, Del Toro is not really in the running because "he's rather busy."

Though a director still has not been named, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is set to release in movie theaters sometime in 2010.

NOTE by Dumbledore:
The reason Del Toro is busy until 2010 is because he has signed to direct the two Hobbit movies, produced by Peter Jackson. The first Hobbit movie is due out in 2009 and the second in 2010 with filming beginning late this year/early next year for both films.

 You're killing me! I posted this about a half-second after you!

I, for one, am kind of relieved because I don't think I would like him as the DH director.

Shannon :hello:

EDIT: First to post!

I have to agree with r+h4ever1:yes:

I'm glad. I don't want anyone who's friends with Cuaron to direct. Film 3 was too "arty-farty" if you get my meaning. If I have to see that bird flying into the tree again.....

Disneymaniac 01-28-2008 05:34 PM

I agree. I do not like him as a director. I did not like Pan's Labyrinth. I think he would make DH too dark.

griffin_girl 01-28-2008 06:37 PM

Yeah, I agree with Shannon. sorry, Mr. Del Toro!xD

Cosmic 01-28-2008 07:41 PM

How can you be busy!!!!

Padie 01-28-2008 07:57 PM

I dunno if I'm glad or not XD Seriously, as far as the film is AWESOME as it should be, I'll be happy with the director :P

Eclipsed 01-28-2008 08:32 PM

Hmm, I agree. I'm rather pleased. XD

Mrs Felton 01-28-2008 09:10 PM

Yeah, I think it's a good thing he isn't directing DH.

I dunno, I think I'd have to disagree with you guys. I thought Cuaron brought a lot to the film. I like how GOF and OoTP came out, but I think they tend to do the minimum as far as the movies go, as in they don't take the artistry as far as they can go. I mean, the story is the important part of a movie; if the story is already awesome, it's not hard to make a good movie. I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth, although I've heard good things, but it might be hard to avoid darkness in DH. Lots of people get all dead and stuff. :)

Hermionespell 01-28-2008 10:38 PM

It doesn't really bother me that he's not in the running. I'm just hoping that they manage to choose someone who is actually good for once. As long as Cuaron isn't chosen, I'm okay. ;)

Mari of the Ocean 01-29-2008 12:23 AM

I don't know if I'm glad or not, honestyl I handn't consider him for a director, I just knew he wouldn't

dancerbookl 01-29-2008 01:35 AM

I still wish that all of them got together

ladycplum 01-29-2008 02:15 AM

Good news about Del Toro, but my mind won't be at ease until someone puts out a restraining order on Alfonso Cuaron so that he can't come within 100 yards of any Potter script, set, or actor! :P *Tries to focus her Divination powers on Warner Bros* Joss Whedon....You WILL Hire Joss Whedon......or J Michael Stracyzinski.....

Frodo Baggins 01-29-2008 02:32 AM

2010?! That would be 2 years from now! DO I really have to wait that long! I can't wait to see the final movie

MoviegoerKinz 01-29-2008 05:09 AM

Steven Speilberg still in the running yay!!!

half_blood_prince 01-29-2008 07:17 AM

wow i hope he winds up not being busy later

Emma C.D. Watson 01-29-2008 10:37 AM

:hermy:
tht's not good news...i think Toro's been offered a huge sum and also got approached by hobbit producers sooner than DH folks..also thr's a clash of titans in 2010-Hobit folks vs Potter fans...
DH is undec. till now...i sure hope tht dH will beat hobbit!in any way possible.:sunny:

Lionella 01-29-2008 03:44 PM

Oh... well... I hope they'll choose a good one to direct the 7th film!

aidan stylez 01-29-2008 07:30 PM

yea if they dont choose a good one that would be a big problem

i hope they choose a good dericter for the 6th harry potter movie:harry:

RemusBlack 01-29-2008 09:38 PM

Oh... "/
I would've thought he'd be a good director for Deathly Hallows. Hmm..
Good luck with The Hobbit though. :)

:harry3: That was sarcasm, right? Because Spielberg was the guy who wanted to make Harry Potter an animated feature with Haley Joel Osment as Harry....... :harry3:

Ha! I didn't know that! wow... <_< now I really don't want Spielberg to direct. I sure hope he's not in the running. I do hope who ever it is, it's somebody not famous, but a great director like Alfonso and Yates. They're primarily more independent directors.

Guillermo Del Toro isn't listed as directing the hobbit movies on IMDB. Is he a sure thing?
