| | | Daniel Radcliffe full Times Talk chat, talks 'The Cripple of Inishmaan', Harry Potter
Daniel Radcliffe's TimesTalk conversation, in which he will take about his Broadway role in The Cripple of Inishmaan and much more, will stream live beginning 6:30pm EST/3:30pm PST/11:30pm GMT via the stream below. SnitchSeeker will be updating this post throughout the chat with highlights of the event with the Harry Potter actor. Quote: - Dan began rehearsals today for 'The Cripple of Inishmaan.'
- Dan loves the positivity and enthusiasm of New Yorkers.
- 5:30 Main difference between London and NY is that he has to go to the gym more in New York because you can get pancakes at 1 a.m. And diners aren't the same in England. They don't have 12 page menus.
- NY is the easiest city to go out alone in and not get bothered by anyone.
- 9 pm Dan and Rupert Grint were at a music festival when they were 17, and someone in their group had gasmasks, so they were dancing in them but it got hot and then everyone recognized them when they removed them because everyone was staring at the weirdos wearing gas masks.
- After watching a clip from the play, Dan started talking in and Irish accent without realizing it. He said he's been doing it all day since rehearsal.
- Doing the play 'Equus,' and watching Richard Griffiths, helped Dan learn how to keep things fresh every night. Each audience reacts differently and the actors play to that.
- Doing the musical 'How to Succeed on Broadway Without Really Trying,' which Dan did for 11 months, taught him how to work hard and gave him confidence. There were several times during the show where he had to acknowledge the audience was there, by smiling at them, and that the spotlight was on him, and that gave him confidence as well.
- When Dan's filming he loses contact with people, but when doing a play - because they mainly run at night - he has more of a life.
- Dan feels making 'The Woman In Black' just weeks after finishing 'Harry Potter' was the right choice because it was familiar yet different. He read the script five hours after finishing his last shot on 'Potter.'
- One of the actors Dan admires most is Gary Oldman because of his fearlessness and willingness to take on anything.
- There was a flashback scene that was cut from 'Kill Your Darlings' where Dan had to go into the Hudson River.
- The film 'What If' is Dan's first romantic comedy. He's adjusting to calling it 'What If' instead of 'The F Word' because it would need to have an R rating with its former title. Dan joked that he really likes this film because it's the first time he gets to play someone in the 21st century. He is like his character, Wallace, because they both have a similar sense of humor, and Dan did a lot of improvisation in this film so he feels his own humor comes through in the role.
- The directors that Dan would most like to work with are the Coen Brothers, Spike Jonze and Wes Anderson.
- When asked if it was difficult to transition between the various 'Harry Potter' directors, Dan said the hardest part was when Chris Columbus left the series, but then it became a challenge that he enjoyed. He felt having different directors invigorated the series.
- Dan would like to see 'The Master and Margarita' made into a film as it's his favorite book. He'd especially like to play Behemoth, the five-foot tall black cat who drinks vodka and carries a handgun.
- Dan originally started singing lessons so he could sing a commercial jingle in the play 'Equus.'
- Dan's favorite scene in the 'Harry Potter' series is in 'Deathly Hallows,' is when the knights come to life in the castle and land with a loud thud on the ground to protect Hogwarts.
- One thing that Dan wished had made it into the Harry Potter series that didn't was that the actor who played Peeves had a couple different incarnations of the character that were very funny.
- Right now Dan is reading 'Waiting for the Barbarians' by J.M. Coetzee and he just finished 'The Name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco. He also recommends 'Heart of a Dog' by Mikhail Bulgakov.
- Future plays Dan would like to do are 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead' by Tom Stoppard and 'Company' by Stephen Sondheim.
