Dan Radcliffe explains challenges with two Deathly Hallows films

In a recent interview with TV Guide, where he was promoting the US television debut of My Boy Jack for Masterpiece Classic, Daniel Radcliffe commented on the decision to make Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows two movies, which he called a "positive thing."

Dan also talks about the challenges to film the two-part end to the series:

Quote:

"And I think the fans will appreciate that more than had we tried to make it into one film. We'd have to cram so much in there and actually have to skip over some things. And in this seventh book, there are a lot of things you can't afford to skip over."
The biggest concern, however, will be where to split the films:

Quote:

"The challenge now is for them to find out where the breaking point is between the two films," says Radcliffe, "because I don't think there is an obvious place [to do so]."
Dan briefly mentions that after he is done filming Half-Blood Prince, which is currently in production, he will begin his Broadway stage-run for Equus, after which he will start working on Deathly Hallows, which "will begin early-ish next year."

That is true .. I actually hadn't thought of that before. I can't think of a logical half-way point in the book, so that might be difficult.

I suppose anything that is something of a "cliff-hanger" will work, though! :)

Antwone Thomas 03-14-2008 07:56 AM

Either when Ron leaves or when they are just about to go into Malfoy Manor before they get captured. Both are high points to leave as a cliffhanger. I would prefer Malfoy Manor.

Jamers 03-14-2008 05:26 PM

Dan has a good point. But I would have to agree with Antwone.

Mrs_ronald_weasley 03-14-2008 05:42 PM

I think that when Ron leaves would be a great breaking point. Although Malfoy manner would be good too. I'm so pumped that they're going to make into two films tho! :woot:

FelixFortunatis 03-14-2008 06:18 PM

I think the breaking point will be when Harry & Hermione go to Godric's Hollow..

aliciahutchinson 03-14-2008 06:54 PM

Either way, it's gonna be wicked wherever they eventually decide to put the breaker,I can't wait!!!!!

griffin_girl 03-14-2008 07:27 PM

Yeah, I'm thinking of the possible part where the movie breaks off too...

Maybe right after Ron leaves?

Sneakeh Cat 03-14-2008 08:41 PM

So True...

Mrs Felton 03-14-2008 09:18 PM

Malfoy Manor would be a good place to break it. Nice cliffhanger.

Ginny GL 03-14-2008 11:50 PM

In my opinion, the best (if not the only) breaking point would be Ron's return and subsequent destruction of the locket.

There isn't a better part to do it, either before or after this.

Alohomora 03-14-2008 11:52 PM

Wow, Dan's done with HBP filming already?
I'm happy they're making DH into two movies. I heard a few people comment that a good place to break it is when they're escaping on the dragon. Not for sure what I think yet; I'll think about it as I reread.

CatDGame 03-15-2008 12:05 AM

I think the BEST place to make the split is when Harry buries Dobby. I feel like it's a suitable ending. After the buriel it gets more exciting and crazy so I feel like that should be left for the second movie.

Yaya 03-15-2008 12:33 AM

I agree with CatDGame, that part makes us think a lot about what might happen in the second movie....snif snif..

HARRY LOVER#1 =) 03-15-2008 01:02 AM

Yeah I was thinking about that one. I really cant think of any place where they can stop the first part:no:

Hermione rocks! 03-15-2008 01:25 AM

Wow.....I can't imagine where they could stop the first part of DH. I'll just have to read it a couple more times.

qoldenwonder 03-15-2008 01:57 AM

That is true indeed. Now with two slip movies they can show us more then just having a crammed up one movie with many skipped important things that was in the book.

Night_Owl 03-15-2008 02:15 AM

Its good that we won't get to miss out on anything but i hate it that the second part won't come out until a year after the first part does. we gotta wait 1 YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

Little Trooper 03-15-2008 03:15 AM

Dan has a good point

half_blood_prince 03-15-2008 04:24 AM

thats cool

Emma C.D. Watson 03-15-2008 06:11 AM

he's got a big pt..haf 2 b v careful whr they split it..need a real good ending 2 pt 1 and then a real good start to pt 2.

i wonder how long each film.

phoenix_tears 03-15-2008 08:23 AM

yeah , he's right ~

it's hard to stop the film at one point !

wish them luck ,

r33nbluebottle 03-15-2008 10:54 AM

Well said. And the last book should be adapted completely to help the viewers that are not fond of reading understand the last installment.....

Serena 03-15-2008 03:02 PM

I agree. I think a nice breaking point would be when Ron leaves...

RedheadQueen 03-15-2008 03:43 PM

I think a good breaking point would be when harry falls into the lake and then is saved, but don't "tell"us who saved him, that can start the second one!! Even if you have read the book, it will leave everyone in suspense, but it is not totally in the air!
