Producer Sonia Friedman, who came to J.K. Rowling years ago for the idea behind
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and spearheaded the production with fellow producer Colin Callender, admitted that there are near definite plans to bring the plays to New York City's Broadway after London.
Friedman, during this weekend's opening gala of the
Cursed Child plays in London, stated the immediate next plans will be where they will go next with the production, and that New York is absolutely on their radar.
Quote:
Sonia Friedman (producer): “Our only immediate objective was to get to today, but Colin and I said that next week we’re going to sit down, have a cappuccino and start talking about what’s next. Of course, it would be disingenuous to think New York and Broadway weren’t part of our thinking.”
“Harry Potter, the brand and the story, are as iconic over there as anywhere in the world, and, Colin and I being theater producers and Broadway producers, of course it’s on our radar, but where, how, when and with whom, we have no idea. We don’t have answers yet, but will have some soon. Until then, if you hear anything about where we’re going, when we’re going or how we’re going, it’s not true.”
Rumors are already going around that Toronto, Canada and Broadway are the next destinations for the
Cursed Child's two-part plays. It would not be a surprise if both runs were officially announced within the next couple of months.
