Ballet Shoes viewing figures & reviews

Ballet Shoes, a 1930s drama starring Emma Watson, aired on December 26th on BBC1 and drew in, on average, just over 5 million viewers.

Quote:

Over on BBC1, family drama Ballet Shoes picked up an average of 5.2 million and 22% (audience share) between 8.30pm and 9.55pm.
More reviews have emerged since the airing. The Financial Times refers to Emma's performance as Pauline Fossil as "terrific" whilst The Telegraph said,

Quote:

Ballet Shoes was certainly well done, not least because it confirmed how good child-actors are these days.
The highest praise of all came from TV Scoop.

Quote:

Not a whole lot happens, but as I said earlier, the real enjoyment came from the acting of the girls playing the sisters. As the eldest, Pauline, Emma Watson has instantly stepped out from the shadow of Hermione Granger and shown herself to be incredibly talented.
If you live in the U.K., the drama can be watched here via the BBC's iPlayer service. (The relevant software to do this can be found here)

We're currently uploading screencaps from the piece, which will be available for your viewing pleasure soon.

emma was out acted by Yasmin! however it was someting to watch but to be honest not much happened!

Embem 12-28-2007 05:12 PM

Yeah Yasmin was definitely the better actress. I didn't think I'd like the programme but it was OK.

dancerbookl 12-28-2007 05:13 PM

Well, it is Emma Watson! She acts as Hermione Granger and this is her first thing outside of Harry Potter, obviously it will get people

hermioneg288 12-28-2007 05:29 PM

I'd love to know when people who outside of the UK will be able to watch this...particularly Americans....I really want to see this!!!!!

EmmaRiddle 12-28-2007 05:50 PM

^ It's not airing there, not as far as we know.

Lucy, the girl who played the red head, outshone everyone. Considering she has a much smaller C.V., she put both Emma & Yasmin to shame. Still, the eyebrows weren't as much of a problem in this, it was more the heavy breathing. She did however cry convincingly, and looked absolutely stunning in that blue dress! I totally think Emma is better suited to modelling.

I was totally torn between this and 'The Old Curiosity Shop' and I went for the other one  but seeing as this has got good reviews I might watch it if I've got time. In general I find Emma to be quite annoying so this might change my perception of her.

^ Derek Jacobi is <3

I thought ballet shoes was good!
i thought emma was very good to be honest it was nice to see her doing something else

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 12-28-2007 10:49 PM

When does it come out in the US?

Zoe 12-28-2007 11:33 PM

Emma's acting ability is completely obvious. She's been great as Hermione and proved that she can act. I'm glad that Emma has finally stepped out from doing something Potterish and hope she'll do more non-HP acting in the future.

Kitty Loves Steps 12-28-2007 11:37 PM

It was good I have to say! but I wasn't bowled over by Emma's part. The other two girls I thought did a much better job! But it was magical to me and that's all that matters to me. It was lovely to watch on Boxing Day :)

It may be, but not legally, and therefore we won't be linking it.

Eclipsed 12-29-2007 07:38 PM

I recorded it on my Sky+ box, and I started watching the first half hour or so. True, nothing much seems to happen plot-wise, but the acting of the three girls was wonderful, not just Emma's.

Emma C.D. Watson 12-30-2007 12:36 PM

emma was amazing here.i was speechless, wow.she has improved greatly as an actress...the movie was ok,the other girls were ok too...i think emma convinced me tht she can and well act outside her sphere of hermione...brilliant.:hermy:
