MacNair sauntered back to the common room after the sorting feast, a mischieveous grin plastered to his face. The room was empty as most people were still socializing and the first years were always slow getting down. Now, all he needed was for Orion to get his butt in gear and hurry down with the supplies...

Orion Malfoy sauntered down the stairs. He didn't hurry. He never hurried. Once in the Common Room, he threw the sack at MacNair's smug face. "I've yet to understand why I'm doing all the leg work when this is clearly your plot." He wanted to sink into a chair in front of the fire; it was his usual position of repose. However, MacNair had attracted his attention at the Feast and it would be silly to sit down only to have to get back up again.

"Because, you're so much better at legwork than I am," he replied, smoothly. "Besides, I know you want in on the whole thing. You do recall what we went through not too long ago. It's time for us to have our little bit of fun. The others are holding them back so we can get set up."

Malfoy's eyes glinted hard gray at the memory of the horrors they'd gone through as first years. It made him angry, not because it had been hard or painful or particularly messy, but because the older boys had laughed. Laughed at him. Laughed at a Malfoy. "I owe Flint," he referred to the boy who had graduated just last year in a clipped tone. His angry features relaxed into their usual casually graceful lines and he shrugged. "Alright, you have me convinced. Turn about is fair play and all that rot."

MacNair smiled and reached down to grab the bag of goodies. "Alright then, let's get to work," he said, heading in the direction of the first years' dormitory. "The house elves have already brought their stuff up so, that should make for some fun. The spiders in the trunk thing is so overdone but, the black widows they used last term were wicked. What kind of stuff did you get?"

Malfoy eyed the bag skeptically, wondering if it was enough. "The usual snakes and frogs, few spiders," he admitted. "I had the house elves pack up all our moldy food, plus there are some goodies from that joke shop on Diagon Alley." He wouldn't deign to say the Weasley name, even if he deigned to shop there. "I've been thinking about some binding spells, as well. It might be nice if they couldn't change their underwear for a week or so." He shrugged.

"I was thinking more along the lines of binding them to their beds and having them all miss their first class, although that might not bode well for our standings in the race for the house cup... Perhaps just make them miss breakfast, though..." he pondered aloud as the two of them began to extract various creatures from the bag and place them into the trunks.

"Oh, a mouse," Malfoy grinned suddenly and held up the wriggling creature for perusal. "I think this lovely thing belongs in..." He studied the trunks. "Baddock's trunk. Little prat talked back to me on the platform. Honestly, as if I meant to run over his foot with the luggage cart." He dropped the mouse into the trunk and watched it burrow into the clothing. "Well, alright. I did mean to. Actually intended to get both feet. You know," He looked up sharply and caught MacNair's attention. "We don't have class until the third. Surely a binding charm would be broken by then?"

"Yeah, I doubt it would alst much longer than that. Besides, we'd have to set it up now so it would trap them and I doubt it would last much longer than 10 or 12 hours, anyway. Though, that is enough time for them to miss breakfast and those who forget to use the restroom before they turn in will surely be sorry," he said, taking out a snake and slipping it beneath a pillow of one, Bulstrode.

Malfoy flicked a bit of snakeskin from his robes and scowled. "As diverting as this has been, are we through? I could use a cup of tea and a good seat in the Common Room." He rose and straightened his robes, then smoothed his hair. "Is there anything left in that bag? I want some creature to add to Little Girl Potter's cauldron in Potions. I do so enjoy making her yell." He smirked and grabbed up the bag, removing a large toad. "Oh, this will do nicely."

"Yeah, I think we're done here," he said, surveying the scene, adding the last binding spell before looking over at the large, scaly, toad in Orion's hand.

"I have noticed your little obsession with her... Are you sure you aren't just trying to cover up some lovesick fascination with all your torture?" he jested as they made their way back to the common room, just in time for the prefects to arrive with the new crop of first years.

Malfoy watched the first years scuttle by and make their way up to the dormitory. He shared a glance with Greengrass, the female fifth year prefect who had agreed to stall the first years while he and MacNair had gone about their work. She'd be expecting her payment later in some way that was tiresome and female and that would make him loathe her more than he already did - if that was possible.

Not able to let their conversation drop, although MacNair seemed content enough, Malfoy tried to look casual as he said, "The desire to bring someone harm and discomfort doesn't always equate to love. Maybe that's the way they do it in your sick family, MacNair, but I merely like to make Miss Potter as uncomfortable as I can. Blood feud and all that."

Bryce watched along with Malfoy as the first years trouped in. He managed a rather convincing fake smile and twiddled his fingers at them as they moved further into the common room. He wondered at their reactions and hoped they wouldn't be as spineless as the crop they had last year who had screamed loud enough that Professor Snape had come to investigate the noise.

He was offended by Malfoy's offhand comment and smacked him with the back of his hand. "You'll kindly not speak of my family in that manner," he bristled, calming almost immediately afterward as this thread of conversation was rather typical of the two friends. "I can understand the blood feud thing. My father still wants me to take my pick... I haven't quite decided yet, though. Alexa is certainly the beauty but, Andrea would be more of challenge, I suspect."

Malfoy glared at MacNair before turning back to face the room again. "Don't be a Hufflepuff firstie, Walden. I was only teasing. That bloody hurt." He considered the two Winston girls then, knowing that MacNair's blood feud was nothing like his own. MacNair's ended in him getting the girl, and the Winston girls were worth getting in a lot of ways. Good blood, good looks, and high spirited. "You'll have your chase once you make a choice, though. They both would live quite contentedly in Potter's pocket and never look twice at a Slytherin prince like you."

"Yeah, Potter... Well, I'm sure once I've convinced one of them to share my company, they'd get over Potter pretty quickly. Maybe I won't decide on which one. Maybe I can try and get them both and then, once I've had a little taste of each of them, I can decide. Or make them decide...."

Malfoy shrugged. "You don't have to decide anytime soon, unless you want to be the youngest married wizard at Hogwarts. Let's enjoy our youth, MacNair. In fact, let's go and enjoy some Hufflepuff youth as well. I bet Becca Boot and Jodi Hogan would be more than happy for a late night stroll if we showed up about now. And here I already know their password." He smirked and raised an eyebrow at MacNair.

He smirked, "Of course I wasn't going to decide right away. If I was, I would have done it a long time ago, though it can't hurt to think about it. In the meantime, I do think some time alone with the Hufflepuff girls would suffice, especially if you already know the password... Maybe they've even got some new friends to bring along."

He stood up and opened the door. "After you, my friend," he said, with a short bow and smirk.

Malfoy stood and stretched like a cat before moving towards the door. He saw Greengrass's movement of protest from the corner of his eye and turned to shoot her a look that was full of apology and contrition. Better that the nosy girl think he didn't want to be going out rather than asking silly questions and wanting to hang on him some more.

"How many girls does a chap need for a moonlight stroll?" Malfoy asked innocently as they entered the dungeon passageway.

"One on each arm should suffice. Besides, it's time we got ourselves some fresh girls, I think we overused Jodi and Becca last term; they're started to get old. Plus, we don't want them getting all clingy," he said, disgustedly, as he glaced over his shoulder and spotted Greengrass as the door shut. "Or haven't you forgotten that one night you decided to ask her for a favor."

He pointed a thumb over his shoulder and laughed at the expression on Malfoy's face.

Malfoy sneered at MacNair, but he wasn't angry with the other boy. He was more angry with the situation. "Why should a girl like that be in a position of power? Why not somebody worth persuading and worth controlling? There is nothing I want to give Greengrass, and yet she persists in being the only person who can do us favors." He grumped along for a bit before brightening. "We could go to the Ravenclaw Common Room. I don't know their password, but we haven't had any lessons in appreciating the Dark side with those brainy beauties in quite a while. Hufflepuffs aren't a challenge and Gryffindors..."

New Orion scene...

Orion Malfoy sat casually in the back of the room, easily able to overlook the entire classroom. Little Potter girl was just coming in and he bit back a smile when she went right to her usual seat. Good. Her being predictable meant that she was sitting right in front of a cauldron with the largest toad either of them had probably already seen. He leaned forward a bit, still looking casual, and waited for the fireworks.

Jo pulled her robes tight around her, as usual when entering the dark and musty dungeon. She always felt like she was being watched, ever since first year. Jo suspected it was the ever watchful eye of Snape on her. Her dad had always told her to ignore it, that she was just paranoid.. but all the same, her robes were wrapped tight.

Taking her usual seat she unpacked her quills, laying them in a neat row. A loud "mmmmRAP" made her freeze though. Slowly, she stood to have a peep in her cauldron, where the noise had came from. Just as she got her eyes over the brim, the biggest toad Joey had ever seen hopped out and into her lap. She shrieked and jumped up. Snape came dashing in from his office, so Joey took it upon herself to just get out..

She ran to the door and out in the hall, half considering marching right to her daddy..But, didn't. Instead she took a seat in a dark corner and calm down.

When Joey ran out of the room, Andrea Winston stood from where she was seated behind her friend. The toad hopped lathargically across the floor and Andi scooped it up and put it right on Snape's desk. "Excuse me, Professor," she nodded at him, nodded at the frog, glared at Malfoy's smug mug in the back of the room and ran out after Joey.

She didn't have to go far. Joey was curled in the corridor by the door. "It was a toad, Joey. Come back to class. I'll protect you from any further reptiles."

"I didn't want to go to class today anyways," Joey said plainly, standing up to greet her friend. "Potions is boring, so I don't think I will thanks. But, you go right ahead. And smack Malfoy while you're at it. I swear one of these days...,"Joey punched her other palm with her fist. "He's such a prat," she said crossing her arms roughly.

Andi tossed her blond ponytail and took a seat where Joey had just been seated. "He's always been that way, Jo. Do you really think he's going to change because we're fifth years now? Honestly, Jo... he's a prat. He's been a prat since first year when he tried to drown you in the lake, and he's still a prat."
