Ravenclaw Table For those who belong in Ravenclaw House, in the middle of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Blue banners containing an embroidered bronze eagle float above the polished table in honour of the wise Rowena Ravenclaw. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages. |
Surprise, surprise. Guess who was being antisocial and with her nose in a book? Iris Harden, naturally, perched on the bench somewhere around the middle of the Ravenclaw table like she was waiting for the world to end - or at least for the protagonist of her current dark fantasy dystopia novel to burn one down. The chatter swirled around her, but her eyes never left the pages of her books where governments crumbled and heroes teetered on the edge of villainy. It wasn’t that she disliked feasts or the festivity of it all, but the the noise of it all made it harder to ignore the knot of worry for her brother tugging at the corner of her thoughts. She'd done the caring, the coaxing, the talking... but at this point it was like leading a hippogriff to water. You could drag the beast right up to the edge, watch it dying of thirst, and still it had to want to drink for itself. So Iris read instead. Kingdoms fell, empires rotted, rebels rose and failed, Hundu exploded. It was easier to follow the collapse of imaginary worlds than to wrestle with the cracks forming in her own. Besides the dark passenger following Nyle around, there were the feelings she didn’t even want to name. The muddled, inconvenient things that had crept in like ivy between the bricks. Want and curiosity tangled with the unease of not knowing if she was supposed to want at all, let alone want ... all that. He complicating her carefully ordered sense of self, leaving her restless, questioning, and most frustrating of all... intrigued. One of her roommates had offhandedly remarked that JT’s affections were about as subtle as a Howler in the dead of night - something only accented by a quick glance over towards the Slytherin table, which sent a flush crawling up Iris’s neck. Blowing a couple of stray strands of blonde hair out of her face with a curt huff, flipped to the next page of her book in quick defense, burying herself instead in a brutal passage detailing the agony of foot binding but how the protagonist's bound feet only serve to focus her rage as she enters her first battle. Much better than wallowing in dewy daydreams. |
Athena hated this. She hated having to head to the Feast alone when during her previous six years, she had the company of Kritti, Dio and Hermy. That feeling, coupled with missing her entire family back home… well, Thena had descended into a quiet, brooding mood because of it on the train. Even her friends had been unsuccessful at digging her out of that rut. The seventh year surveyed the Ravenclaw Table as she approached. Most of her Housemates were chattering away, a few were mainly listening, Iris was reading as usual. Thena picked out a spot where not too many had gathered yet. While waiting for the food, even though she was not hungry, she would focus on penning a reply to her girlfriend’s latest letter. Oh yes, one could be sure that she would be relaying all her current feelings on that cinnamon scented parchment. And how she had come to realise her fear was being isolated from the ones she loved the most. |
Rajan Patil wasn't exactly in his seat at the Ravenclaw table. Not yet, anyway. His robes dragged slightly as he shuffled forward on his hands and knees, muttering a series of increasingly flustered apologies as he weaved between clusters of legs and feet. His eyes darted from shoe to shoe, wild with determination and just a hint of panic. "Sorry—excuse me—have you seen a toad?" the third year asked his housemates, who hopefully wouldn't feel the need to kick him. "About yay big, slightly cross-eyed, answers to Chintu?" He held out his fingers to demonstrate the approximate width of his runaway companion. "Well... doesn't answer, exactly. More like aggressively croaks when he's annoyed." Typical Chintu. They'd only just stepped off the Hogwarts Express and already the toad had made a break for it like some kind of amphibian escape artist. And now here Rajan was, scuttling around the floor like a first year looking for his slimy, four-legged Houdini. He soon came out from beneath the table and straightened up with a sigh, brushing dust off his uniform. Then, with narrow eyes, he peered inside the nearest goblet. You never know with Jalapeńo; it wouldn't be completely out of character for him to be floating around in someone's drink like an extremely disgruntled ice cube. |
Was there something off about the water or had everyone just decided to be a looming cloud of misery over at Ravenclaw house tonight? So many long faces - boo, tomato, tomato. Claude lifted a brow as he walked past the reader and another as he slipped onto the bench near Athena. "Any good ideas floating about for how we can spend the last, first night?" Claude wasn't opposed to starting something up himself, but if someone were already on it then, who was he to reinvent the wheel? Though, to be quite honest, he wasn't hopeful that his peers would provide. You know what they say, if you want to get it done right then you'll likely have to do-- Hm? His attentions turned to the boy on all fours. So out in the open? Bit early for that, no? But who was he to judge. Having caught a bit of the concern, he withheld an amused smile. Though a lost toad wasn't the drama he was hoping to set the tone for the rest of term to come, it was far better than any of this sulking, book-in-nose nonsense that his other housemates were providing. "Hm, I can't say that I have," seen the toad, that is. "Any chances he found himself a snog?" Claude looked around the hall briefly before returning his attentions back to creepy-crawly over here. "Plenty of people looking princely tonight." He winked at the younger boy, not unfriendly. He could be persuaded to look for the toad. |
Holy hippogriffs... it was her final year here at Hogwarts, after this she'll no longer wait at the Claw table waiting for the Headmaster's speech before food appeared before them. It was a crazy thought, but she didn't want to think about that now, she was here to enjoy the feast and a whole new year ahead of her. Although she knew she'll have to study her tail off for the final exams, she knew she was more than ready for them and even started studying for them during the summer. Gosh she was such a nerd, no wonder she was single... Sighing to herself Lily sat at a empty spot looking for her friends in other houses, sighing not seeing them shs opened a book on poetry and started reading. |
Athena was only just getting started on describing her tumultuous feelings in her letter when her feet were unceremoniously bumped into. Startled, she kicked out but wasn’t sure if her shoe connected with anything because… well, she was too occupied with being startled. It turned out that the offending student was Rajan, she figured it was him from his voice and this was confirmed when Thena stuck her head under the table to reply to him. “Nope, sorry. I’ll keep my eyes peeled though.” Poor Rajan. If anyone knew in the moment about how it felt to miss something you loved, it was her. The amphibian mention also made her frog-loving youngest brother. The seventh year straightened up just in time to see Claude snag a spot beside her. “Hi, Claude.” Despite her mood, she smiled brightly, having always gotten along with him. “Do you mean creating a bit of chaos or occupying our time with something a bit more serene?” Normally, she wouldn’t opt for the first but when one was in an internal turmoil… Claude’s comment about people looking princely elicited a snort from Thena. “Including yourself?” she asked, reaching out to punch him lightly in the arm. “Hey, Rajan. Is Jalapeńo into music? Maybe they went to find the Frog Choir? If Claude, you and I start singing, maybe, possibly he’ll come hopping back here instead?” As she spoke, Athena lifted a hand for a brief wave towards Lily, her fellow seventh year. |
(out of turn but he insisted & I won't do it again!) Another reader? Did no one have any decorum at this school? "Hm?" He turned his attention back to Athena and shook his head. "Where's the fun in serene?" He smiled before leaning in conspiratorially and adding with a whisper against her ear, "I was hoping for a party." It was their final start of the term feast, shouldn't they memorialize it in a way that went beyond sulking at house tables and reading poetry? Call him a saint because he was willing to take on the herculean task of helping his fellow Ravenclaw students to live a little. ........ Was that a snort, Athena? Heh. "Well if the shoe fits...." And his were quite large, so it would be a feat. But he took the punch in stride, even grimaced to play the part. Such an agreeable, saintly boy he was. "I am not singing, sorry, but nice try." The apology was directed at the younger boy, Rajan, while his refusal was directed at Athena. However, I will gladly support you both should you try it." See? So agreeable. |
*firstie joining the toad search lol* Her brother hadn’t been sorted into the same house as her, but Aurora was content in the fact he’d ended up int the towers with her in a way. A different tower, but it wasn’t like they’d be at opposite ends of the castle. After the sorting had moved onto the others who weren’t her siblings, the smol auburn-haired girl had properly turned to arrive at the Ravenclaw table, settling on approaching the group of older students who seemed to be discussing something about the Frog Choir or something like that. It was only as she’d slipped into a seat nearby that she noticed the boy on the ground. “What’s missing?”, she asked, looking between the boy on the floor and the older kids. Introductions could wait, in case they hadn’t heard her name being called. She’d sing if they wanted her to, too, but why that might help whatever be found was a mystery. |
*firstie taking a seat under the table* Mira bolted right for the Ravenclaw table, and did not wait to see or listen to where her brother had been sorted. Honestly, he deserved it after what he had done to her pet. Mira was not going to seek him out. No Levi could just come to her. When she came up to the blue table Mira immediatley made a dive for the floor, and crawled under the table to take a seat near Athena and Claude's feet and probably knocking into some other students feet and legs while she did so, sorry. She was not coming out from under the table until the sorting was over. Taking out her pygmy puff she began to sob and sniff loudly as she tried to stroke life into her little purple fluff covered pet. If this was how her hogwarts days were going to be then she was staying in her dorm whereever that was? |
