(Graphics credit to Charely Potter) Where once stood a secret green oasis has now been converted into a less leafy chill-out zone for all Hufflepuffs to use. Unfortunately Professor Fergersnout’s horticultural expertise are incredibly limited and despite the house of the Badger’s supposed affinity for Herbology, it seemed more appropriate to have an area for reading, studying and socialising amongst friends. That wasn’t to say that all the plants had been completely eradicated for several copper pots and macrame hangers containing those specimens continue to call this area home, ready for the responsibility of green-fingered friends.
Additionally, the area is home to comfortable beanbags and squishy floor cushions in keeping with the style of the rest of the common room. A large honey-oak bookshelf occupies the far wall filled with games and puzzles, books and stationary, a haven for fun, creativity and homework completion.
The corner is far enough away from the main common room to maintain some sense of quiet and privacy from the main thoroughfare but close enough that it is accessible to all. Grab a friend and a copy of Exploding Snap and get ready for an evening’s entertainment before retiring to the dorms. | |

While Emma enjoyed being out and about, there was also nothing like the coziness of her common room. Pulling her knees up under her bum, she propped her journal on knees, writing various thoughts of the past couple weeks. While she probably could have used the time to be studying for her OWL exams those weren't for MONTHS away - surely she could wait to start stressing about those until the night before knowing Emma
So many thoughts in her head and she was thinking about the Hufflepuffs who recently graduated. What were they up to? She ought to write to them. She added a little note in the margin of her journal as a reminder of several people to write to and check in on - like Anna.

Sometimes one just needed to take a break. To chill. To hide away from the world. Okay, maybe not that last one as hiding away in the common room wasn't the best hiding place. It was, in fact, a bit silly. Soren was very much out in the open as he entered the common room after returning from the library. Yes, it was a known fact that he enjoyed reading whenever he wasn't in the kitchen cooking/baking or somewhere creating art in one form or another. The newly acquired books happened to be tucked away into the bag sling across his shoulder.
His gaze swept around the room once, twice, before falling upon the only other person there. "Hey Emma.. whatcha doing? Studying?" He narrowed his eyes at the book in her hands trying somewhat unsuccessfully to makeout what she was reading... Mainly because it wasn't that sort of book but a journal. Oops.

Emma was all about the taking a break part. Not necessarily the hide away from the world, because she LOVED being around people way too much that she'd get lonely and miserable. Which is why it was somewhat strange that she was actually sitting still in the common room, JOURNALING of all things. Chewing on the feather tip of her quill, she hadn't even heard someone come in.
Until she heard her name. Shutting the journal instinctively (although she was an open book regardless so it didn't really matter because you ask, she'll tell it), she looked up to greet the face of a fellow fifth year. "Oh hey Soren, what's up" She bit her lower lip, "ha. I should study, but you know me... Gonna wait until the night before and then complain about how much information there is to learn." Why learn it in pieces when you cram months of lessons into one night.

Soren loved people as much as the next person, especially his siblings but sometimes a guy needed some breathing room. Even if it were only five minutes. His occasional shyness is what generally kept him from making tons of friends. The ones he did have though, he valued a great deal.
Now that wasn't entirely the reaction he had been aiming for. Startling her, that is. The way she had closed that book made him briefly consider that she wanted to keep whatever she was doing to herself. Which was perfectly okay with him. "Not much. Was just in the library." Not his preferred place to be but sometimes it had to be done. Soren grinned slightly at Emma's reply. "If I tried that I'd panic and forget everything I was reading." Going over things a little at a time was more his way of studying. To bad studying wasn't like cooking! That was one lesson he wouldn't fail.

Oh Emma's family were definitely some of the most important people in her life, but sadly with the age gap, she never got to experience Hogwarts with her siblings. Relying on her classmates for social interactions.
"The library.. well that sounds enlightening. Clearly you're better than me," she snickered. "I forget plenty. But somehow I seem to manage to scrape by enough with passing grades. At least well enough that I don't get kicked out of quidditch." She had full intentions to catch the snitch in as many matches she could this year. She didn't need the added stress of quidditch suspension due to grades. "You read anything interesting?"

That was something Soren could never fully understand himself. Being a twin, identical at that, he always had his brother at his side growing up. Even now the two of them were incredibly close. There was also their younger twin siblings. It wasn't something he would make a big fuss over but he did really like having them all here with him. It definitely had cut down on the homesickness he had experienced years ago when he started at Hogwarts as a small firstie.
Sor chuckled lightly. "It's usually quiet there. It helps when I want to focus on what I'm doing and get things done." It was tough to focus when he had his siblings beside him being goofy. The four of them together was a circus of laughter. "At least you're passing so you must be doing something right? If you ever need a study buddy though, let me know." He wouldn't mind helping her with her studies if she ever needed it.
"Nah, I was working on Transfiguration stuff." Which could be quite interesting when he was reading for himself and not for an assignment.
