CoMC: Sleep Out in the Pastures

On the evening of the first Friday back shortly after dinner, Professor Paton could be found out in the pastures. Unlike most nights where she could be seen tending to the creatures or bringing some inside for the night, this wasn't what she was doing right now. For the better part of the afternoon had been spent readying the area for the students and other professors/Headmaster. Now however she was triple checking everything to make sure nothing at all had been forgotten.

There were tents for those that didn't want to sleep directly beneath the stars. Lots of sleeping bags of all colors and designs! Stacks of pillows and blankets were also present beside the sleeping bags.

Three long tables were also set up very close by. One that had different snacks on it that would be typical of a sleep out, both muggle and magical. The other table held drinks both warm and cold. On the last table was.. creature treats and stuffed creatures (of the nocturnal variety!). Should anyone find that strange, all they needed to do was remember whom it was that was hosting this little sleep out.

Not too far off from the tables and supplies was a decent little fire pit area. The fire not lit as of yet but with plenty of seating set up around it should anyone want to sit around and talk. Hint hint. This area was going to be used soon enough for a very special reason.

Off to the other side was an area set up only for this activity. This was several little dressing rooms for those that hadn't arrived already in their pajamas but wanted to change. There was also outdoor restrooms so no one had to keep hurrying inside!

All that was missing now was, anyone that wanted to have some fun.

OOC: Heeeeeeey everyone! Welcome to the CoMC sleep out!

Her first week of classes had been a disaster. Meredith had discovered that her classes had become significantly more challenging as a fourth year compared to her previous years. She suspected it was because they had to study for the O.W.L exams the very next year.

So when she saw the sleep-out message on the noticeboard in the Gryffindor Common Room that morning, she was ecstatic to have something to look forward to before the weekend began.

Meredith walked to the fire pit area while wearing a jacket over her pink pajamas "Am i too early, Professor?" she questioned, motioning towards the unlit fire.

If the teachers had suggested an outdoor sleeping adventure at her Muggle Primary, Aurora would’ve thought they’d gone crazy! The idea of a camp out with the Care of Magical Creatures professor and all her fellow students in the grounds of Hogwarts however seemed a little more exciting. Aurora was a girly-girl but that didn’t mean she didn’t appreciate the great outdoors too. The family were more likely to spend a holiday in the sun in Greece than they were to go camping so the eleven-year-old hadn’t had much experience. Still she was excited and eager as she bounced her way down from the Ravenclaw tower.

Clearly a little too eager.

Apart from one other student and the professor, she was the only one there. That was a little awkward, she was now going to be characterised as the eager nerdy first year.

Oh well!

The blonde grinned sweetly at her fellow student and the professor. “Hi! I’m glad I wasn’t first” she giggled. She wasn’t as eager as the first girl. She looked around wondering what she was supposed to do next. Was there a seating plan? Do they need to help set up? Was the food for now or later?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Aurora was wearing an extra special pair of pink fluffy PJ’s covered in pastel coloured and sparkly unicorns. They were obviously a fictional muggle depiction of Unicorns rather than realistic. You could imagine the excitement when the first year found out that Unicorns were REAL. She carried in her arms a purple stuffed penguin with a pink sparkly beak and feet. It had been a present from her mothers a few birthdays ago and had been the first thing she had packed in her suitcase before leaving for Hogwarts. Her long locks had been plaited into double Dutch braids that afternoon and she had kept them in to sleep in. Aurora insisted that she wasn’t actually named after the Disney Princess but her love of pink, animals and her natural blonde hair made her resemble the Princess. She didn’t want to be the first person to sit down so she stood near the older student hoping that someone else would take the lead.

Hope was still in a bit of a daze after her first week of classes. Although she'd always studied hard at home, she felt inadequately prepared for the rigors of Hogwarts, and especially Ravenclaw. But she couldn't turn down the opportunity to participate in an outdoor activity like this, so here she was, in an old-fashioned flannel nightgown and warm knitted boots, holding a rather shabby homemade stuffed opossum under one arm.

She saw Professor Paton and a few other students when she got there, including fellow first year Ravenclaw Aurora (whom she already felt outclassed by in school--oh why had the Hat placed her with all these brilliant children?!?) Well, at least she wasn't too early--not the first, at least. "Good evening," she said quietly as she came closer and looked around.

So the CoMC camp out had been a BIG surprise to Ve, but pleasantly so. Honestly, she would always say hats off to any Professor's brave enough to commit to having to watch the students in settings like this for a WHOLE evening. It was a bold choice. Very Gryffindor. Fitting for the new Head of House.

Skipping her way down, a clean (no stains!!) Kenmore Kestrals jumper and a pair of sweats her PJs for the night, Ve beamed and gave a finger waggle towards Professor Paton before making her way directly towards the table laden with stuffed creatures, quickly selecting one of the reptilian family and draping it around her neck before making her way to the fire pit that was looking.... Not so fiery. "Hi Professor Paton, hi Meredith!" The others were newer and she didn't know names yet so, she just gave friendly smiles and waves in their direction. She would have pointed out the fire was more helpful when there were FLAMES involved but.... She wouldn't insult Professor Paton by assuming she didn't know that. She'd just look at it.

Maybe if she blinked enough at it, it could spontaneously combust.

Sleeping outside was definitely a creature-like thing to do and one her parents would NEVER allow at home, which obviously meant Everleigh was thrilled to experience it. Living that freedom life now that she was at Hogwarts, baby. It was a dream come true. She did bring her own pillow, though. She wasn’t insane.

The first year approached the small group that had already gathered with curiosity, noting she was one of the early arrivals. All the better to get the top pick of the sleeping bags, right? Maybe something pastel to go with her fuzzy pink pajamas. She did love a matching moment. Adjusting her pillow from one arm to the other, she sidled up beside the others. ”Hi there. Can we just grab any sleeping bag we want?” The brunette looked around at the others expectantly. She would probably also sneak one of the darling stuffed animals, even though she was a mature eleven year old these days. Practically a woman. A woman who hadn’t yet learned to sleep without a stuffy. She’d been too embarrassed to bring her bear, Mr. Slippers, so knowing she might still be able to cuddle something on the down low was reassuring. She’d just be sneaky about it. Nothing to see here.

So, sleeping bags???

Anyone!

Nora had heard there would be a sleepover, and at first she was sort of hesitant. Sleepovers? Cool! Sleepovers outside of a magical school in a magical creatures area? Hmm... However, in the end, she had decided that she'd go. Magical school wasn't going to get any easier for her if she kept giving in to the misery. She might as well try to have fun.

She paused and let her eyes travel around the area. Apparently, she could either sleep in a tent or outside under the stars. She'd make that decision later. There were treats, loads and loads of treats. That would definitely be on her list sooner rather than later. What specifically got her attention was the table of treats for creatures. In other words, magical creatures. Nora hadn't had much experience with those yet, and quite frankly, her mind just kept thinking along the lines of dragons. Yikes!

Seeing as she was already in her pajamas, she didn't need the dressing rooms. So there was only one thing left to do---socialize. That was something that really didn't bother Nora so to say, but seeing as she didn't really know that many people here, socializing was still sort of awkward. So she just stalled in the midst of everybody and gave a "Hey" to whoever was standing around and could hear her.

Jude was very supportive when it came to his professors and their activities but he was definitely doubly {or triply} supportive when it came to cousin Hady. It was why he had taken the trek out to the pastures in a higher spirit than normal. He was already dressed suitably in pajamas - bright green with musical notes patterned on them {a gift from his mother and father last Christmas}.

He took a moment to survey all the things Hady had set up. Judging by it all, the students were definitely in for a treat. Perhaps he and Keigh could find their cousins and have one giant extended family camp out. It had been a while since they’d had one of those. “Hi,” he answered a first year {Nora} as he passed by her. Jude even gave her a friendly smile. “Hey, Professor!” See? He was still careful not to call the woman ‘Cousin Hady’ - a mistake SO many of his cousins had made, and probably still continued to!

Sleepovers? The great outdoors? Pyjamas? Count Yukie Selina Rasting in.

Already in her own pyjamas, Yukie made her way to the pastures where Professor Paton and everyone else was. Though she liked her bed in the Hufflepuff basements a lot, this was an opportunity she would always be willing to take. She even had her night-time hair band on, with the little kitty ears.

And those stuffed creatures! So adorable. Yukie made a mental note to get one of those later.

"Good evening, Professor!" The littlest Rasting greeted the Creatures professor once she arrived. Passing by Jude, Yukie gave him a gentle poke on the arm and a grin as acknowledgment. Then, she stood beside a Gryffindor she knew to be her classmate. Meredith was her name, if Yukie recalled correctly. "Hey!" The Hufflepuff gave her a smile.

A sleeeeeeeeeeepover?????? Arden was ecstatic at the idea of spending a night under the stars!? Would any of the animals be present? Arden certainly hoped so! She had brought her OWN sleeping bag, tucked safely under her arm, and was delighted to see that Professor Paton had provided some already. Well, that was okay to Arden because that would mean more cushion if anyone wanted an extra sleeping bag! Hers was a deep plum with bright gold and silver stars; it reminded Arden of her older brother, and she found that she really missed his presence when he wasn’t around. Soon he’d be leaving Hogwarts, though, but she didn’t want to think about that yet. Speaking of Starr, where was the Hufflepuff? Arden looked around briefly, waving at Professor Paton as she did so.

One of her year mates, Meredith, was here already, and so Arden gave her a smile and a wave as well as some of the younger ones she was friendly with - Vera, Nora - but she came to a stop next to little Ackerly. She had promised her aunt Layla that she’d keep an eye on her this term. She had Ariadne, sure, but the more eyes the better! She nudged Aurora affectionately. “Hey,” she whispered and smiled. Her curly hair she had inherited from her dad was plaited into pigtails.

Lisa had been afraid that she was going to be the eldest student here. She got flashbacks to that one party her second year when a certain Gryffindor boy (PABU) insinuated that she was an elder even THOUGH she was one year older, wearing a bright pink wig, and sparkly white glasses. The nerve of that man-child! Even though he had grown older, she still thought of him at the same age.

Wearing a pikachu onesie, she joined the group for the COMC Sleep Out. “Hi Professor Paton.” She smiled wider and then paused as she scanned the group for familiar faces. Oh hey! Jude was here! And more! “Hello,” she greeted the group before making her way over to him. “I never got the purposes of sleepovers… Why is it called a sleepover if no one actually sleeps?” she joked.

Very rarely does Yumeki show genuine excitement on his face for Kendo, which what he enjoys most of all. Kendo was a way of life for him. The opportunity though to have an excuse to sleep outside during the night at a school that demanded you sleep indoors in your bed before curfew? There was a slight smile on his face as he trekked down to the Magical Creatures Pasture. He didn't have any kind of special pajamas or anything. He wore what he felt was most comfortable. Dark Grey matching jumper and sweatpants. The sweater had a hole in one of the elbows and the cuffs around it's sleeves looked ragged and torn. He also wore his good pair of sneakers. As he stood with the other students making note that so far a majority of them looked like 1st years. Or at least that's what his tired baggy eyes perceived for him anyways. He looked around again seeing Yukie-chan and gave her a smile and wave before locking onto Lisa Nam. He shuffled his legs over her way and stood next to her. "Hey you, Pikachu." He said as he scratched his chin and let out a massive yawn. He stuffed his hands into his pants pockets and tilted his head to the side looking onward toward the Professor who looked like she was still putting the place together for them. He inspected the tents, the sleeping bags and pillows and that some of the other students had even brought their own pillows with them. What would be best for Yumeki though? When was it that they could sleep?

Holmesian Feline 01-07-2023 11:55 PM

Nighttime sleepover…check.

With creatures…double and triple check.

When Raj had seen the notice, it had sure gotten his attention and was definitely all for it. Reminded him of some of the outings they had done together as a family out on the lands of the reserve when he was growing up. So when the time came, the seventh year made his way down to the creatures pastures dressed in comfy pants and a t shirt since it was still warm out ready to enjoy the night, whatever may or may not be planned.

“Good evening, Professor,” he greeted his Aunt Hads with a smile. “Great idea.” The Ravenclaw taking in the gathering. He’d be sure to take a sleeping bag at some point, even if to just have a soft place to relax once the fire was lit.

---------------------------------------------------

Now a nighttime activity out of the grounds…that would be fun. And if one looked carefully in the darkening sky, they would see the movements of a great horned owl flying around the area where the COMC professor and students were gathering for a little bit before alighting to perch on a branch of one of the nearest trees. After all, one might be looking for nocturnal creatures in your surroundings.

hoo-h'HOO-hoo-hoo the creature let out seemingly watching the humans with its wide eyes.

Lottiepot 01-08-2023 12:29 AM

It wasn’t long before the area started to fill with more students. Aurora was pleased to see there were several students of her own age she could socialise with before having to resort to forcing her way into an older students conversation. Not that she was scared to do that. Aurora could hold a conversation with a rock. She gave a little wave to both Hope and Everleigh who she shared a dorm room with, appreciative of the comfort of familiarity with tonight’s sleeping arrangements. “Doesn’t this look fun?” she beamed at Hope although it hadn’t gone unnoticed that her fellow Claw perhaps wasn’t so into the whole camp out thing as Aurora was.

Everything seemed fun at this school so far although her Mum Bambi had been hesitant to send her girls to Hogwarts considering the crazy events that had occurred in the past. Not that Aurora knew ]much about any of that.

The appearance of a familiar face got Aurora even more excited for the evenings proceedings. Her Ma didn’t have many friends in school which meant that the ones she did have she was close to and became like an Aunt to Aurora. Arden was the daughter of her surrogate Aunt Eden and there was no denying that the petite blonde looked up to the older student enormously. She grinned at the fourth year and leaned into her side, partly because she didn’t know many others and wanted that familiar bit of comfort and partly because the sun was starting to set which meant the Scottish chill was coming in from the lake and Arden looked nice and warm. “Isn’t this exciting?! Can I sit with you?!” She didn’t own a sleeping bag so she’d have to take one from the collection. She hadn’t decided whether a tent was necessary either although she would probably take the influence of Arden anyway. “We have matching hair!” she giggled pointing at both their braids although Arden’s gorgeous curly locks gave a lot more texture than Aurora’s silky waves. The eleven-year-old was a teeeeeensy bit jealous of how pretty and natural her friends hair was.

A sleep out lesson in the very first week of term. Suffice it to say, Regulus had not been thrilled by the news, and the prospect of sleeping surrounded by all these people. On the other hand, the dormitory now seemed the lesser of two evils, at least for the moment.

He'd been careful not to react. This was nothing. This was easy. This was practically expected. Nothing could or should or would surprise him. One thing he couldn't bring himself to do, however, was to turn up in, or bring, pyjamas. He arrived dressed in sweatpants and a hooded sweatshirt, black-and-blue stripes, loaned to him by none other than his half-brother, who already towered over him (though Regulus seemed to be one of the taller students in his year) and whose hoodie came halfway down to Regulus' knees. Apparently the stripes - all stripes - had a protective quality, but Regulus was fairly sure that was Just One of Those Things his brother said sometimes.

As he arrived at the pastures, Regulus took stock of his surroundings, his gaze lingering on the stuffed animals when they first caught his eye, though he consciously reminded himself to keep his expression neutral. Before he did anything, he went right to the stack of sleeping paraphernalia and tugged out the best sleeping bag, pillow, and blankets that he could find for himself while he still had the chance, and scoped out the tents, but held off on deciding if he would sleep inside of one.

Only then did Regulus join the group properly, lingering near a cluster of first years, and replying to Everleigh Evans' - no relation, apparently - question by adjusting his fairly won goods under one arm and saying, "That's what I did." He watched the interaction between Aurora Ackerly and the one older girl for a moment, before seeming to snap out of his distraction and turning at last to the professor, his gaze catching just for one moment on an owl in a branch up above on the way.

"Hello, professor. Is all of this stuff clean?" He was thinking specifically of not wanting to catch lice from someone else's pillow, but now he wondered if fleas would also be an issue, this being Care of Magical Creatures. Either way, it was better to check and be sure.

sweetpinkpixie 01-08-2023 02:00 AM

After spending an afternoon emptying the contents of a Quintaped's worth (meaning five) of polishing oils and at least double that number of rags, the suits of armor leading to the boys bathroom were considerably more pristine and reflective and not a single one in the spot that they ought to be. While she and Mercer may not have accomplished his list item of 'polish the suits of armor to make a rainbow', Mitsuki did believe that they had made a considerable contribution to the flow of air in these particular corridors (she even removed her little dish of salt from the central most window pane) and Hogwarts and all its inhabitants could sleep better.

The ones that slept in the castle this evening at least. There was little she could do to fix the ominous flow of brisk air outside and she only had so much salt in the pockets of her onesie and she had been rather busy that afternoon without time to properly refill.

The theme was entirely coincidental.

Under the educated assumption that her companion, Mercer, would be hungry considering all the manual labor and disappointment...the fourth year lead them over to the food and drinks. Her eyes wandered a bit, namely to Yumeki-sempai and withheld a certain lurch, though she dare not interrupt anyone or disturb this comfortable space. "There is hot chocolate," she noted with an additional indication of one of her slender fingers. "And poorly done taxidermy."

Was she being serious or attempting a joke as her eyes fell upon the stuffed animals? Hard to tell with her rather deadpan delivery and modestly disengaged stare.

SarcasticStrawberry 01-08-2023 02:17 AM

Maisey had never been this excited for a lesson before. Okay she's been excited for every lesson that she’s had everyday since she’s been here. But this one was different. A sleepover lesson, that was something that she would have never gotten in a muggle school. Overnight trips maybe. A big maybe.

After dinner the first year headed back to her dorm to get into the pajamas, her pink koala bear onesie. With matching slippers. She packed her favorite pillow, blanket, along with her book and other items for the lesson. She headed down to the grounds and the pastures where the lesson was being held. ”Good Professor Paton!” she had to make it a point to make sure she said the professor's name too so she could learn them and remember them.

Scanning the area out for people she knew or where to go from here. The changing rooms and the bathrooms she didn’t need yet. Nor did she need to raid the snack table at the moment. None of her dormmates were here yet. However she did move over to the small group of first years that seem to have gathered to the side. (Regulus, Nora, Everyleigh, Aurora and Hope)”A sleepover lesson? I’ve never had one of these before.” maybe they had before, in wizardry primary school it was a tradition or something. She didn’t know all she knew was it was pretty cool. She noticed the stack of sleeping bags and other things. She might need the sleeping bag she could use it to lay on. Of course she found a pink one with light pink moon and star shapes on it.

Cassirin 01-08-2023 02:20 AM

Mercer had already snagged a fistful of marshmallows and a cup of cocoa as they passed each table, and he was now considering the giant pile of stuffed animals. Taxidermy, huh? He snorted as he stuffed ten giant marshmallows into his mouth to free up a hand for stuffed critters. Those went into the waistband of his Branxton-tartan pajama pants.

"Ook, 'is 'ukie," he pointed out Mitsuki's sister helpfully, as if she needed help finding her own kin in the near dark. He needed help finding his sometimes, especially since his glasses had gone missing again and his eyes were tired from all that armor polishing. "Oo-ee 'I-o?" Where was Milo, by the by?

Oh, was he being rude? Mercer offered the cocoa to Mitsuki, since his marshmallows were well and truly disgusting by now.

Lissy Longbottom 01-08-2023 02:46 AM

Uh, no. No. Absolutely not.

Nancy was NOT sleeping on the GROUND under the stars, thank you very much. That was a HARD pass. As far as she was concerned, humans had evolved past the point of needing to be outdoors. They couldn't have had a sleepover in the Great Hall or something like normal people? Already dressed in her blue plaid pajamas, she marched moodily down to the gathering, heading STRAIGHT for the group of first years she saw gathering near the edge of this little campfire set up they'd put up.

OH THANK MERLIN. They had TENTS. Which still lacked mattresses and basic amenities she was sure, but it was a step up from the cold hard ground.

"They couldn't have set this up inside?" she grumbled to no one in particular as she grabbed a dark green sleeping bag and dragged it over to them, sitting down cross legged on top of the nylon surface and looking around with a sigh. "Oh, hi, I'm Nancy!" she added to the first years present that she didn't already know (Everyleigh, Aurora, Maisey and Hope). The only reason she was down here, truthfully, was to try and socialize a bit.

Granger Danger 01-08-2023 04:55 AM

First year groupie!

Ooh...there was nothing more fun to end a long week of schooling then a nice sleepover, but a magical one was even better! Plus underneath the stars? There was nothing more better and fun to her. Of course she been camping, but this was going to be even better! The excited first year was excited as ever and couldn't wait to see how it goes. Skipping down towards the grounds in her unicorn pajamas she waved happily at Professor Paton. "Hello Professor, lovely night it is tonight hope you and Amie are both well?

Biting her lip she looked around, shd didn't see anyone she knew but that didn't mean she couldn't make more friends along the way. Although she waa a bit shy and scared of making the first move, she headed towards the crowd of first years. "Are there leasons and rules on a sleepover?" She needed to know this, she never heard this before, curious she tilted her head in curiosity. What lessons and rules were there that she didn't know? She didn't know maybe she could find out.

It is one of Lev's first classes at this school so he doesn't really know how to react to this... Not that he was too thrilled about it but he decided that doing this might be something he will enjoy. Perhaps.

He arrived to class in what he'd normally sleep in- which was just a simple t-shirt and his gray sweatpants. Lev also decided to wear socks for this because he's not entirely sure what they'll be doing for the rest of the class. And he can sense it won't be just sleeping. His eyes wander around and the first thing his eyes focused on were the creature treats- clearly something everyone will be looking forward to in the next few minutes or so. Should he be worried? The first year doesn't seem to look like it but he's low-key looking forward to it.

"Hello, Professor" he greeted, smiling shyly and hoping it wasn't that noticeable. He eyed a couple of first years he met in the train and decided to join in that area... or near them. He wasn't much of a talker anyway.

Apollo wasn't sure about this sleepover thing? On one hand, he used to do sleepovers all the time with Bella, but that seemed like an eternity now. Would he be the only seventh year? But also it was his last year and he was determined to make the most of it. Which meant saying yes, even if he wanted to be in his comfortable four poster back in the Gryffindor Boys Dorm, where it seemed Freddie and Atlas were ? Yea he'd seen them at the feast and wasn't sure how he felt about that either. Except if they didn't show, then perhaps a night away would be just what he needed.

Upon arrival, he did notice Raj and Jude there, so that was good. Along with some younger Gryffindors like Arden and Vera and Meredith. Seeing Lisa was good too, but also a worrisome reminder that he hadn't seen Maya yet this year.

But as expected it was mostly younger kids? That meant he would probably be expected to make sure no funny shenanigans were to be had. Hey professor Paton" he greeted out of obligation, as he took in an owl? Huh... He hadn't remembered any owls in the barn previously? Perhaps one of these students has brought their own to the sleepover for comfort? Yet it didn't seem to be hanging around anyone in particular?

Clad in a black pyjamas with a green snake on the t-shirt that looked ready to hiss Bella made her way out to the CoMC sleep out in the pastures. She felt iffy about sleeping out under stars, but it was her last year so the dark haired and seventh year was going to do all the things to make it as memorable as she could. Taking in who was there Bella noted with some relief that she wasn't going to be the only senior student there as Jude, Raj, Yumeki, Lisa and Apollo came into view among the many eager younglings.

Bella quickly made her way across the pastures picking up a purple sleeping bag, and a stuffed nocturnal creature as she went. "Good evening Professor Paton," She greeted with a smile over to their professor as she passed the woman on her way to her bestie. Eventually she stopped with a smile next to Apollo with a wide warm beam across her features. "Hey bestie, can we do this sleepout thingy together?" Dropping the sleeping bag and stuffed creature on top Bella asked "Want me to grab you a sleeping bag too Apollo?"

DuckyLinJi 01-08-2023 02:14 PM

Meredith said hello to a few students, including a new first-year (Aurora) who arrived shortly after her and was holding a purple stuffed penguin, which she thought was absolutely adorable! Another first year (Hope) dressed in a flannel nightgown and holding an old stuffed animal that appeared to be handmade, as well as Nora and Everleigh. She didn't know the names of any of these girls, and while she was sure they were nice, she didn't make an effort to talk to them beyond a brief greeting.

It was becoming difficult to keep up with greetings as her fellow classmates arrived, but Vera did receive a "Hello!" as well as a friendly smile from her after she had greeted Arden. She also may have chuckled after overhearing Mitsuki's taxidermy joke. But it was Yukie to whom she turned. The Gryffindor looked at the hairband she was wearing and reached for it before realizing it would be impolite. "I really like your hairband. It's a cat, isn't it? Where did you get it?" She was beginning to regret leaving her camera in the dorm. She could have taken a lot of pictures. Not of the others, she didn't enjoy taking pictures of people but of the night sky and the dark forest in the distance or the soon-to-be-lit fire.

Maybe if she dashed to the tower. But that thought was enough to put her off. She didn't want to climb all the way up those stairs again. Hogwarts really needed to put in an elevator!

Brandon liked sleepovers. And he liked animals. But this was a lot a lot of people and he only knew a few of them. And he didn't want to sleep in an unknown sleeping bag (he didn't pick one out, not yet). At least he'd brought his own pillow- and he grabbed one of the creature stuffed animals from the table. It was cute. He grabbed food as well, then walked up besides Regulus. "Do you want to sit by the fire?" he asked, the obvious meaning that he wanted to sit by the fire and he wanted to hang out with Regulus, one of the people he recognized, if he wasn't too busy. And he had snacks. They could share, maybe.

Brandon's pajamas were a simple blue. He liked them, but felt rather plain compared to the people with fun patterned pajamas.

Mentions of lots of people throughout!

Nora returned Jude's smile. He seemed extra excited to see the professor. Hmm... He was one of the older students, so who knew what was going through his mind right now. Just when a wave of awkwardness started to rush over her, Nora saw someone she was somewhat familiar with. She greeted Arden with a smile and a wave, too. Times like this, she wished she knew other students as well as they seemed to know each other. They were all gathering together and greeting each other like they'd been friends for years, and they probably had. Most of them had probably grown up in the magical world together.

She couldn't help but overhear Lisa's question. Nora was familiar with the fact that nobody ever slept at sleepovers, but she was going to missing her sleep in just a few hours. She still hadn't gotten used to the early hours after sleeping in all summer. So, where were all the other first years anyway? Nora was feeling a little out of place. She felt herself jump just a little when the startling sound of an owl echoed from one of the trees. Something was telling her that she was in no way prepared for a magical creatures sleepover.

Thankfully, Maisey showed up, and while the two weren't super close friends, Nora was glad to be surrounded by more of the younger crowd. "A...lesson?" she asked. It hadn't occurred to her that they'd have to actually learn things tonight. Nora's learning brain had already kicked off for the evening, and her fun brain wasn't ready to let it back in. "At least it'll probably be a fun lesson." Her gaze traveled up to the owl still on the branch. She wondered what other kinds of magical animals stayed awake at night.

The rustling of a sleeping bag being pulled across the ground grabbed her attention. Oh, it was Nancy! Normally a was still bummed they hadn't ended up in the same house, but it was nice to see the very first other magical kid Nora had met. The first years were becoming quite a crowd now. Nora looked over at Cassidy and shrugged. "This is my first magical sleepover," she replied. Come to think of it, most things were her first magical whatever. She waved at Lev as she watched him making his way over. She hadn't talked to him since the sorting feast.

One of the older students (Meredith) gave them a greeting out of politeness, so Nora just smiled her way. She was pretty sure she had seen her in the common room. Other than that, most people had broken away into their own respective groups for now. Did they mean they could hit up the food and drinks tables now? The ones not for the creatures, of course.

Jacoby strolled down the grounds towards the pasture. He wasn't super into animals, he liked them sure, but they didn't trip his fancy the way other subjects did. An overnight lesson, sounded like a prime time for mischief if he ever found one. Glancing at the set up he noticed the tents and sleeping bags. Glancing up he did notice that he could see the stars.

Glancing around the group he tried to spot his brother and see where he was, but for all he knew Zeek had decided an outdoor lesson or this class wasn't worth it. He stepped closer and saw that some of the students were complaining about sleeping on the ground, or at least their faces said they were not thrilled by this lesson. Jacoby was excited.

Lots of mentions in here~

Yukie was really glad more and more people were joining. For events like this, the more the merrier was the motto to live by. She figured some might want to take the opportunity to stay behind in their less-crowded dormitories, so the Hufflepuff was pleased with the turnout so far. She had waved to acknowledge Arden, Lisa, Yumeki-senpai, Bella, and Jacoby. So many familiar faces! And even more first years! Look at them, how exciting! Her sister and Mercer, however, specifically got finger wiggles from her. Mitsuki's onesie, in particular, made her giggle. It was cute and very her, you know? Yukie made a mental note to sit with them later while she hopped around to sit with other friends.

Meredith was more than welcome to touch Yukie's little cat ears, though! Sensing that maybe the Gryffindor did want to, the littlest Rasting bent her head down. "It's okay! You can touch," Yukie smiled. "Yeah, they're cat ears indeed! I bought it a few years ago...." She couldn't remember where exactly, so she turned pink a little. Maybe she should have brought her other night-time headbands so she could lend one to Meredith for the night, because of course she had more and not just of cats. It would be so adorable, all the animal ears!

"Is it too early to grab something to eat?" Yukie asked, still facing Meredith, but made her voice loud enough so anyone nearby could also hear her.

Everleigh was just waaaaiting for guidance on the whole sleeping bag situation for what felt like for-ev-er before one of the other first years gave her the confidence she needed to just claim whichever she wanted. ”Thanks…kid.” She hadn’t had the time to learn names just YET but he’d be known for now as sleepover boy until she got the full scoop on him.

She actually had a lot of scooping to do.

After selecting a sleeping bag and a cuddly friend she’d hidden inside, Everleigh rejoined the growing group of first years to join in on the conversation. ”I hope this is less of a lesson and more of a bonding activity or something. I much prefer to learn in the daytime. Better lighting,” She said solemnly. ”Oh, do any of you snore, by the way?” Because she’d be choosing her sleeping spot based on this very important information. Snorers interrupted beauty rest and also attracted the kind of nocturnal creature attention she’d be trying to avoid, thank you very much.

Sleepover + animals = best idea ever!!! Desiree had been looking forward to this all week. She arrived dressed in her best pajamas, yellow with a rose print, and a blue and yellow hoodie with attached Beast ears. Not wanting to ruin her slippers on the walk to the pastures, she wore matching yellow sneakers instead. Her favorite doll (basically THIS except with blue eyes instead of green) was tucked under her arm, along with a pillow - because who doesn’t bring a pillow to a sleepover?

“Hi, Professor Paton!” she greeted with a cheery smile and a wave of her free hand. Her blue eyes scanned the setup, taking in the pillows, sleeping bags, refreshments, and - asdfjkl!!! Look at all the cute stuffed animals! “I like your stuffed animals.” Then a thought occurred to her, and she added, “There’s not a wombat among them, is there?” If she never saw a wombat again, it would be too soon!

Wow, there were a lot of people here! Who should she talk to first? Desiree waved to her fellow Hufflepuffs and any other familiar faces (Arden and Lisa) she saw along the way. Of course Jude got an extra princessy wave too as she moved in that direction. “Hey, Jude,” she greeted, smiling approvingly as she noticed the pattern on his pajamas. “Cool pajamas! The musical notes are a nice touch.” Granted, she was more of a dancer than a musician, but she knew a great fashion choice when she saw one!

Come to think of it, a lot of people had nice pajamas,,, like Arden, Lisa, Mitsuke, and those three first years in the koala (Maisey) and unicorn (Aurora & Cassidy) pajamas. She also noticed the stuffed penguin and opossum that two of the first years had (Aurora & Hope). Très chic! She’d have to compliment them all later! And speaking of cute animals…

Between her Beast hoodie, Yukie’s cat ears, and the fox face on Meredith’s pajamas, it looked like there was an animal theme among the fourth year girls! “Hi, you two!” she greeted, waving to her fellow fourth years from where she stood.. “Cute pajamas! I love the cat ears, Yukie!”

Oh dear Merlin, what did he get himself into?! Norman Carton was really not the type for sleepovers or any large-scale social gathering. While he wasn’t a social butterfly, his daughter was, and he’d been the reluctant chaperone of enough of Normandie’s parties to have some idea what to expect. Usually lots of giggling, gossip, and junk food… the perfect environment for shenanigans. With a group this large, the potential for trouble was cranked up to eleven!

That was the reason he was here. Socialization wasn’t one of his strengths, but observation, be it of creatures or students, was something he could do. He quietly joined the group while the others were chatting amongst themselves, nodding in greeting to all students he passed along the way to stand beside Paton. “Good evening,” he greeted. “Thought you could use an extra hand with this.How can I help?” Translation: please give him a job to spare him the awkwardness of attempting small talk!

Though as he glanced around, it looked like she’d already thought of everything. His eyes were drawn to the owl nearby. If he didn’t know better, he’d think that owl was watching them. Odd behavior for an owl… unless it wasn’t a real owl at all. Curiosity piqued, he shot the owl a knowing look.

She considered offering Mercer a handkerchief when he snorted, momentarily wondering if he had caught a cold or something simply had tickled his nose. His collection of marshmallows had her distracted instead and she reached for another mug and put nothing but marshmallows in it for him.

Having become fluent in Hamster Cheek Branxton speech, her gaze reluctantly followed his indication just in time for her younger sister's finger wiggles...which she reciprocated sans the perky attitude that always accompanied Yukie. She could not just ignore something she saw, after all. "It is," she nodded and politely refused his hot chocolate offer minus dipping a marshmallow from the mug she had collected into it for a quick chocolatey glaze. "I have not seen him." Milo that is. In fact sometimes she felt as though it may be purposeful.

Steam wafted up from her marshmallow and her fingers slipped into her pocket again for just a little bit of salt to sprinkle atop it.

Of course Yukie received compliments about her feline attire. For some reason Mitsuki's own unicorn aesthetic was unnerving according to certain voices.

"What do you suppose we are sleeping over?" she inquired as her attention shifted back to Mercer. It was a sleep over, after all, and from what she could see it was manifesting more as a sleep ON or a sleep IN. "Tsuchigumo, perhaps. Distant relatives to the acromantula."

Regulus had been - for one split second - about to reply to Maisey's comment with a remark to the effect that he'd never had a sleepover before, period. But he stopped himself, not least because he found himself questioning how true that was. Still, he couldn't help but think there was some kind of indefinable (to him) difference between staying over (verb), and a sleepover (noun). Ultimately, after some thought, he delivered a safe and simple, "Me neither." It took great restraint to stop himself from correcting Everleigh - Regulus was not, after all, a kid - but, for some reason, restrain himself he did. He nodded, and that was enough.

Cassidy Raine raised a good point too. What were the rules for something like this? Not the same as in lessons, it seemed... but then, if nothing was really specified, it would be easily defendable. Maybe. Regulus still wasn't sure exactly what to make of these professors, but after a little pushing and prodding - not necessarily by he himself - he would soon be on more solid ground.

As he looked out over the steadily growing group, Regulus' gaze fell on Lev, his dormmate. But he didn't say anything, not right away, and instead turned to Brandon who chose that moment to appear by his side. From his careful neutral expression, Regulus broke into a smile. Sit by the fire? "Okay." He adjusted the sleep stuff under his arm again, and started in that direction, leaving the first year conglomerate behind. "I wonder when they're going to light it."

Wiley wasn't taking CoMC as an elective yet, but who was he to miss a sleepover? Especially when animals were involved! He got into his Kenmare Kestrels pajamas before heading down to the grounds, growing more excited as he approached the group already gathered there. It looked like a party!

"Hi, Professor!" Wiley greeted cheerfully, though he didn't really know her because he wasn't taking her class this year and her full name kind of slipped his mind. "Are we allowed to eat the snacks?" It was probably best to ask first, rather than just help himself, because he didn't know if there was a certain order to things. Some parties were just like that.

He'd stick close by the refreshment table just in case, but he turned near the closest boy his age (Lev) and offered him a smile. "Cool party, huh? I wonder if they do sleepovers like this all the time here." He didn't remember his mum or dad saying that there were, or even one of his cousins, but he could have slipped his mind. Oh hey! There was Reggie over by his new dormmate Brandon! He gave them both an enthusiastic wave. Were they going to sit by the fire??

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phoenix wasn't as enthusiastic about a sleepover as some kids seemed to be. That sort of thing lost its shiny newness when ever day in the common room or dorms felt like a sleepover. But CoMC was a new elective for the third year and he was eager to do well/ And he was pretty sure there would be snacks.
He got a new pair of Tinworth Talons pajamas that he put on for the occasion and headed down with his cat following behind. He didn't see anyone he knew immediately. There seemed to be an overwhelming number of first years here. But he paused next to the Gryffindor about his age (Jacoby), noting his expression. "You look like you're up to something," he observed in amusement as he passed by. Now.. what was good to eat?
astrocat 01-09-2023 10:14 PM
Brandon let go of a breath when Regulus agreed to sit with him. The other boy even smiled, when he hadn't been smiling before, which Brandon took as a good sign. There were several okays Brandon knew about- the resigned one of his stepmother, the one his sister said when she meant the opposite and she was going to start getting stressed, the one his father said (which didn't mean anything at all, and always made Brandon uncomfortable at the unpredictable-ness)... the angry okay, the threatening okay, the compromising okay, the sad okay... and the really genuine okay! This seemed like one of the genuine ones. Brandon was relieved that Regulus' face and words matched, and he was extra relieved that Regulus liked him and wasn't going to leave him (sitting by himself was very embarrassing and lonely). "I hope they light it soon. It'll be bright and maybe we'll get to roast marshmallows." Fire was one of the things that Brandon wasn't scared of... not VERY scared of, anyway.
"Want any of my snacks? I picked a lot." Just in case someone wanted some. Sharing was a type of caring, and Brandon loved sharing snacks with his friends. Like Regulus! And maybe even his dormmate Wiley, who he gave a small wave back at. Was he going to join them? Brandon wouldn't mind at all. He followed Regulus to the fire pit, letting his friend pick where to sit(ground? chairs?) because he didn't have much of an opinion on it.
Older Students and Carton
There really were a lot of first years this term it seemed.
And Rajesh was picking up mixed feelings from the ones that were gathered…those who were enjoying the adventure of being outside under the stars surrounded by mystery and those who definitely appeared to much prefer to be in their nice warm comfy beds in their common rooms like every other night. Or at the very least their beds at their respective homes since Hogwarts was still new to them. At least he wasn’t the only older student around, his dark eyes taking note of the appearance of Jude and Apollo, Bella and Lisa.
“Evening, Professor,” he greeted his head of house as the man made an appearance. Following Carton’s pointed gaze, Raj couldn’t help wondering why the man seemed interested in the owl. This was an creature sleepover, they were bound to pop up.
------------------------------
There had been a few that clearly noticed the owl, both Gryffindors curiously. Though the younger one seemed to be a tad spooked by her presence. The owl turned its attention away in case the starring was what scared her, looking all innocent as it appeared to preen itself on its perch.
But when her green eyes met the particular gaze of the transfiguration professor, the owl tilted its head and gave another “Hoo hoot!” Aye…just your everyday normal owl here.
kayquilz 01-09-2023 11:14 PM
Arden thought Aurora was just the cutest little button of a first year, and so it was with a huge grin that she nodded at the first year. "Of course you can! We'll have fun. Looks like there's quiiiiite a few snacks over that way," she gestured with her thumb. If Arden had known Aurora was jealous of her curly hair, she would have felt nice about it. She sometimes felt bad that she couldn't do the same hairstyles as other girls because her hair was just...SOOO unruly, thick, and BIG, but she got over most times. "Awww, we do match! I wish we could take a picture to send to our mams," she said with a happy nose crinkle.
It seemed like all the first years were congregating next to her, and Arden just smiled in a friendly manner at them because awwww, they were all so excited and just so CUTE. Even that little one who wanted to know if all the sleepover stuff was clean! SO littttttle. Were eleven year olds always that little? Also Apollo and Yukie got a little finger wave from her. She needed to catch up with her year-mates soon, Yukie included in that obviously.
Hope was more and more excited as more and more first years joined her (Everleigh, Nora, Regulus, Maisey, Aurora, Nancy, Cassidy, Brandon)--she wasn't used to quite so many children her own age around and she loved it! But right at the moment, she was distracted with figuring out how to open the sleeping bag she'd gotten from the pile. She was used to sleeping outdoors, but her family and friends usually used blanket rolls that they'd put together themselves, and Hope wasn't quite sure how the zippers in this thing worked...
I mean, you'd be asleep if you were snoring, so how would you know you were doing it?" But Hope supposed that a sleepover with a lot of other students would be a good way to find out.
"Oh, hi, I'm Nancy!" she added to the first years present that she didn't already know ...
Looking up at another girl's sudden exclamation, Hope replied, "Oh, but we couldn't possibly do it inside. We'd miss all this--the sky and the stars and the smell of the grass and...and that owl! Jude couldn’t help it; he was always friendly. It was in his DNA. “Enjoying Hogwarts so far?’’ he asked Nora kindly. He remembered how nervous he had been as a newbie at the School. There was a poke in his arm that had him looking around. His gaze was met with the grin of a friend. “Hi, Yukie!’’ See, he didn’t fondly refer to her as ‘you’ this time. “Loving the ears!” Yes, as a cat person, there was full appreciation for Yukie’s hair band. Next to grab his attention was Pikachu-Lisa. Mhmm, Jude recognised the character onesie immediately since he and Keigh religiously had spent a lot of time watching the anime. “Hi! You’re looking cute, Lisa!” There was a hearty chuckle at the question. “That’s a good one. But do we really care, just as long as we have a ton of fun?” There was an owl out and about but given that this was Hogwarts, the Hufflepuff didn’t think twice about the creature. It was possibly just one of the School’s owls, coming back home after a delivery. Catching Apollo’s and Bella’s gaze after looking away from the owl, he waved at the Gryffindor. “It’s good to see so many older students here too,” Jude absently remarked to Lisa. “I mean, ‘sleepover’ with stuffed toys might insinuate that it’s an activity for younger kids.” Hady would definitely be pleased with the overall turnout.
“Hello, Desiree!” One could always count on his fellow Hufflepuff to be quite fashionable. “Loving your outfit as usual! And the doll. And the pillow.” Would she care to hang out with him for a bit? “Oh, thank you! A gift from my parents!” His dark eyes cut towards the stuffed toys. “Want to help me pick out one of those?’’ he asked, nodding towards the table. Hey, Jude did NOT care if anyone judged him for wanting one at his age, okay?
Also…
Was that owl giving professor Carton attitude? :mellow:
Vera had taken a break from trying to stare the fire into existence by watching the flood of people arriving. Arden got a wave back as she settled with one of the newer students. Once Ve had realized that the people she was most comfortable with were either not yere yet or busy socializing, she went ahead and focused again on the unlit pit. She could hear other students coming closer too, but she paid them no mind, instead just leaned further back into the chair she had found for herself while she absently made the stuffed snake round her neck dance to imaginary music in her head. She found herself momentarily tempted to go and try to find her brother, but really and truly she WAS planning on trying to give him more space this term so she talked herself out of it rather quickly.
She'd just stay over here closer to Professor Paton. Maybe if she was on her BEST behavior she could convince the woman to let her trade the fake snake for one of the real ones from the reptile room for the night. Now THAT would be a fun slumber party!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mouse's arrival was on the later side, primarily due to the fact she'd had to talk herself into attendance. Don't get her wrong, the event itself sounded like SO much fun, but for as much of a social creature as she was she found that large groups depleted her social battery far faster than smaller settings. Which she supposed was true of everyone, but still it had made her wonder if she was up for an all nighter. But it hadn't taken long to decide that yes, she was absolutely up for it. So she'd thrown on a pale blue night gown with capped sleeves, before tying one of her dark hair ribbons around her waist and then a blue bow in a half up hair do. She was going for Wendy Darling, but settled for her own natural waves instead of trying to get any type of ringlets into her hair.
Reaching the event, her eyes scanned the gathering crowd - noting just how many younger students there were around. They all seemed to be grouped up, or at least paired up, so she moved on up in years searching for anyone perhaps she could socialize with. Her Hogwarts circle was still fairly limited, and while she quickly spotted Lisa and Jude, they had quite the gathering of people around them so she chose to wave to them from afar instead of interrupting. She then noticed a girl perhaps a bit younger than herself who had the absolute cutest pajamas (Desiree) but she also had people around so Mouse simply made note to comment on her whole aesthetic later and instead quietly made her way over towards Rajesh and the Professor's. That seemed a safer, quieter grouping. "Good evening, all." She greeted softly, wrapping her sweater around her and following eyes towards the owl in attendance as well. "It looks like the creatures are already joining us too!" Perhaps there might be treats on the table with the stuffed animals they could offer?
Watson 01-10-2023 01:53 AM
I’m always cute. The pikachu onesie enhances it,” she stated confidently before chuckling. “I’m joking. It’s my warmest pair of pajamas.” She did have a pair of flannel pajama pants but the dog got to them when she was packing for school and poor Pascal couldn’t save them. Anyway! She’d have to save up for another pair which she planned on ordering over the holiday break. Anywho- It was really lovely to see Jude again. “I suppose not… I’m glad to see a good turnout. I’m sure the Professor will be happy. Maybe we’ll tell some spooky stories or sing a campfire song or something?” She saw Desiree arrive and then Mouse after her. “How was your summer, Jude?
Yumeki was always clear. Did he, once again, arrive before she? She turned her gaze to see him stand next to her and she grinned. “Pika,” was the only apt reply that she could think of before nudging him when he yawned. “Tired already?
She looked around the classroom noticing more students and creatures arriving. Oh hey! There was Apollo. Her sister’s cr- bestie? She wasn’t entirely sure.
..."chu." Yumeki responded to Lisa's squeaky yellow mouse voice with his not so squeaky one. Definitely didn't have a childish tone of voice any longer that was for sure. He laughed a little at her asking if he was tired already. "No, I'm very much awake." He jokingly lied. Absolutely beat from all the classes during the day. He might have developed a darker shadow beneath his eyes. "I'm definitely ready to get my sleep on under the stars."
When Jude came over toward them and started to converse with Lisa. Yumeki's mind started to wander. Could he actually just go over grab a pillow and find a nice open spot on the ground somewhere and lay down? He opted to split from the two of them and went over to the pillows and blankets. He snagged one of each not bothering with color or design and walked away from the group over by the Tents. He looked at each of them then walked behind one and put his pillow down laying flat on the ground with his back up and his head resting on the Pillow. The grass was comfortable enough. This would suffice.
...Yumeki went to sleep....
Whilst Summer loved spending time with animals, and loved the lesson, she wasn't sure if she wanted to sleep outside, it sounded like it would be fun but also scary at the same time, who knew what animals would be out and about.
Summer's imagination went wild, maybe a giant spider or worse a lake monster would be around. Well anyway she'd hide behind one of her friends if that happened.
lazykitty 01-10-2023 10:25 AM
Hi, hi!
While it seemed that some of his classmates had taken the opportunity to dress up for the pajama party (what was up with that? like, how could one be comfortable sleeping in a hoodie with ears on top?), Alfred wasn't one of them. Instead, he'd chosen to go more stylish with some casual-looking pajamas and perfectly tousled hair giving him that just rolled out of bed look. And yes, those were Xs and Os on his pants. You're welcome.
"Hey, everyone!"
His first stop was, of course, the snacks to look for s'mores. One had to have s'mores at an outdoor sleepover, it was just an unspoken rule. He found the makings of them, but no fire to cook them on. What, oh what, was an almost fully grown wizard to do........:shifty:
Kalie had decided to stick with her normal comfortable pajamas and had even opted to bring along her favorite pillow. It might not be great for pillow fights, but it was handy for reading in bed! And she had a feeling that would come in handy tonight.
"Hi, professor!" she greeted, taking a seat around the nonexistant fire. Speaking of which, where was the fire? It was weird that there wasn't one yet.
FearlessLeader19 01-11-2023 12:16 AM
Jude laughed. “Okay, fine. I misspoke. You are ALWAYS cute!” Playfully, the seventh year reached out to boop Lisa’s nose with a finger, the same way he would do so to Keighley. “I wouldn’t mind some campfire songs.” He LOVED to sing! Perfecting his vocals was something Koen had helped with a great deal and Jude was lowkey proud of himself for learning so well. “It was pretty eventful,’’ he continued. “Taught a few classes at my old dance school, had the usual hangouts with the cousins… quite fun! But I meant to ask you… how did you do at OWLs?”
There were so many persons gathered or arriving at the moment, so many movements that Jude almost missed the waving hand belonging to Mouse. He waved back, quite enthusiastically too, and was actually going to beckon her over. However, she had already changed direction so he simply let her be. Alfred got a grin and a wave in reply to the greeting. Was… was Yumeki already going to sleep? He stared after the sixth year, wondering if he really wanted to miss out on the fun that was sure to come. Then again… Yumeki could just be tired, in which case sleeping now was more than okay.
Scooping up two sleeping bags, Mercer directed their path through the throngs of little firsties and toward a spot that wasn't currently occupied.
He dropped both bags on the ground unceremoniously. "You sleep over night. It's actually, like, sleeping over at someone else's house, only in this case we're sleeping over at someone else's... garden or whatever. But I don't think there will be any dangerous creatures invited." He did pull a slew of stuffed creatures out of his pants at that point, but none were alive and none were dangerous. "We used to sleep over at my grandparents' houses. And Aunt Vivi's. Aunt Fee's, who had better snacks but was more likely to poison us accidentally. Uncle Luca's, Uncle Gianni's... Well. This is boring, right? What should we do?"
Vera ("Bestie"), and the firsties (Giselle)
The very mention of a magical creature sleepover had piqued the thirteen-year-old’s mind, and the fact Vera was going to it had cemented the whole plan. Except, Sable Ileana had taken longer to get ready, changing into her favorite pajamas. Namely, a t-shirt she’d nicked from Sterling and Juli’s place over the summer (she wasn’t entirely positive whose it had been but it was oversized and comfy and both people were among her favorites so it didn’t really matter) and some blue pajama pants, with the addition of her captain’s coat and fuzzy slippers since they were outside. Plus, she’d brought her schoolbag along, just to store her notebook and some snacks in case there wasn’t anything good already there.
Eventually, she’d ran down from the common room and skidded to a stop near Bestie, having snagged a sleeping bag, pillow and blanket as she’d passed the stack provided for them, waving at everyone else who was there she knew (including the proefssors) before looping an arm around Vera’s. She was determined to be prepared for anything. Like the owl over there hooting at the group. Interesting, but also not really that curious.
It was a creature sleepover, after all.
-----
The extent of the experience Giselle had with sleepovers or campouts was mostly from the times they’d all visited Aunt Bella in Egypt or wherever else she was at the time, and honestly the small brunette hadn’t entirely come to a conclusion as to if she liked them or not. She liked meeting people, and she wasn’t against meeting creatures, but she wasn’t looking forward to the possibility of being cold and dirty. Unless they got to meet an actual dragon, because that would be cool. The one thing she hadn’t gotten to do yet, not that she wasn’t familiar with all sorts of artificial dragons. Given her own plushie and the various ones mum had at home. Plus Xander’s lizard.
Meraxes had been left on her bed in the Slytherin dorm, though, Giselle having decided to bring her kitten with her instead. Mysaria ought to be allowed since it was a sleepover organized by Aunt Hady, after all. The kitten was securely tucked under a flannel-lined pink silk pajama arm as the firstie had arrived at the pastures to see the group that had arrived, her pillow tucked under the other arm. She trusted Aunt Hady, but pillows were something she was particular about.
Therefore, she had no arm to wave with, but the creatures professor had gotten a grin from her, before she went over to join Maisey and the other firsties. “Probably if someone told you that you snored”, she responded, even before she could wonder why they were even worried about the topic. Obviously she knew by now if her dormmates snored, and it was inexcusable if people weren’t willing to inform anyone if they did.
Spotting Nancy and Everleigh snatching up sleeping bags before all the good ones were gone, Nora decided to do the same. The first year didn't really have a preference--fluffy and free of holes were just about the only two. She scooped up one of the better ones, draped it over her arms, and tugged it back over to the growing group of firsties she'd somehow managed to find.
"I hope it's not a lesson at all," Nora replied, looking in Everleigh's direction. "I'm crossing my fingers that this is just for fun." Not that learning about creatures was boring, but Nora could have stayed in the common room and relaxed all evening had it been between a lesson and staying in. She shook her head. She didn't snore. Not that she knew of, at least.
"What's up with the owl?" she asked the group around her. She knew owls were normally out in nature and awake at this hour, but the creature seemed almost fixated on the growing group. It almost gave her the creeps. She decided to just turn away from it and maybe by the time she turned back around, it'd be gone. Regardless, she couldn't seem to get away from the creature, because when she turned around she happened to overhear Hope mention how the owl seemed to be watching them. See! She knew she hadn't been just seeing things!
"I would venture I have a certain sort of face whenever I look at anyone," Mitsuki replied with a small shrug. "No one person is the same as the other nor is the relationship the same, therefore no one gaze is the same as the other." It was not entirely a dismissive move against his observation, though it also was not not an attempt to push the subject aside. She was simply stating some facts. "We could just sleep," she offered, one of her slender fingers pointing towards Yumeki who had already done just that. "That is the purpose of a sleepover, yes? To sleep." Though that did seem quite contradictory to the entire set up. Curious. Almost as curious as the pile of poorly taxidermied creature Mercer had produced from his trousers. "Or..." she continued, pensive as she looked at the mug overflowing with marshmallows. "Perhaps you could try catching these with your mouth. I could toss them to you." Mercer did enjoy food and this was an activity they had done before. But there were also all these soft creatures atop their sleeping bags. "Unless you wish to do something with all of them."
SPOILER!!: Greetings
There had been quite a few things to get in order before the students began arriving and if she was being honest, Hady had surprised herself that everything had come together in time. It was just in time too for the students were arriving and right on time they were!
"Hello, Miss Rowle," Hady greeted the first arrival with a smile, her hazel eyes following the girls gesture towards the fire. Not at all. You happen to be right on time and in pretty pink pajamas too." The fire would be lit soon enough but the goal right now was to allow everyone a chance to arrive and mingle for a few moments first.
"A fan of unicorns I see?" she asked by way of greeting as soon as she saw young Miss Ackerly's choice of night clothes. Seeing her looking around, Hady smiled. She would happily answer any and all questions that were had if asked of course. Otherwise she would explain everything very shortly.
Another first was next to arrive. And was that.. it was! Good evening to you, Miss Archard and friend." There was a nod of her in the direction of the stuffed opossum. Someone already understood what this was going to be about.. a sleep out with the creature professor had to have something up her sleeve.
Ah, now watching where the next student went first didn't surprise Hady in the least. She had already figured out last term that Vera had a strong fondness for reptiles. "Hello, Miss Thanatos.. nice choice there." This was said with a light grin and what she hoped didn't show her own love for the creatures. Though it was no secret that she herself held a deep love for them as well, snakes especially.
All of these first years reminded her of her own first year many years ago. How eager she had been to participate in everything! "You sure can, Miss Evans. Whichever one calls to you the loudest." In other words any sleeping bag the young lady wanted to pick for herself, she was welcome to do so.
"Hello, Miss Collins," Professor Paton greeted the young girl in return.
Ugh, her heart! Those pajamas. It had been such a long time since she had worn anything with musical notes on it. Leave it to Jude to remind her of another passion of hers. "What, no cousin today?" the brunette teased, laughing lightly. She had come so grown to being called Hady, cousin, sister, aunt and mum it wasn't even funny. So whenever one of her family members didn't slip-up, she playfully pointed it out to them.
"Good evening, Miss Rasting. What an adorable headband!" It had ears on it, how could she not comment on that?! Even as a professor she still had a love for anything cute like that. Perhaps being a mum also had something to do with that?
Spotting Miss Toros arrive, Hady saw the wave aimed in her direction and waved right back. Not every greeting had to be a verbal one to go acknowledged by her.
Some of these students and their pajamas! "Is Pikachu your favorite?" She just had to ask and get it out there. This women knew Pokemon and now she was curious who Lisa liked best since she was wearing that onesie.
There was a small nod in greeting upon another students arrival, Yumeki. The pajama choice wasn't anything fancy or overly cute but he certainly looked comfortable and that was a huge plus.
Hady had expected the next student that made their way over. Her smile warm as she greeted her nephew. "Evening, Mister Atreyu-Rehman." Out of the corner of her eye she spotted something flying about overhead and her smile grew. Wonderful, wonderful timing of her fellow professor. Watching the owl (Celeste) fly around and than land in a tree near them all, she smiled knowingly to herself.
Hazel eyes followed Regulus as he headed directly over to the sleeping bags and pillows before anything else. No doubt was he selecting the ones he liked best before anyone else had the chance too, this was something she had always done as well when she had been much younger.. it also reminded her of her youngest who would have surely done the very same. "Hello, Mister Prince. It's all perfectly clean and well attended to just before everyone arrived. I'll happily clean it again for you, if you like." There was no trouble in cleaning things again if it made the students more comfortable.
A soft laugh slipped past her lips as she overheard what sounded like someone speaking about 'taxidermy'. Hopefully it was only a joke as she thought all the stuffed animals she had supplied for the students were rather adorable. Choosing not to comment on that however she was glad to see Mitsuki and Mercer already making great use of the hot cocoa and marshmallows. Hady smiled at the two of them when they got close enough to her to notice. The girls onesie pamajas didn't go unnoticed by her either as they were rather fitting to the sleep out.
"Good evening to you, Miss Wilde. Those are cute pajamas you have on." She was beginning to miss the days when she had worn pajamas like that, waaaaay back when she was a young student.
Oh my, why was one of her students looking so... not happy, right now? Hady smiled softly at the first year. "Hello, Miss Schultz, is everything alright?" Was there anything she could assistance her with to put a smile on her face?
Here was another unicorn pajama wearing cheerful kiddo! This is what she liked to see. And the mention of her beloved python, now.. that really made her night. "It's a beautiful night, Miss Raine. I'm doing wonderful and I'm sure Amie is as well." Don't mind the small grin on her lips right now. "How are you this evening?" Ready for a great time, she hoped!
"Hello, Mister Spencer. All ready for the sleep out?" She had noticed that not everyone was very enthusiastic, some seemed.. nervous?
"Hello, Mister Adara-Stark." Another seventh year. The turnout so far was looking amazing! She wasn't sure who was more excited, her or the students.
"Evening, Miss Connolly. A fan of snakes, are you?" Or was the pajamas due to being a Slytherin? Hadleigh would accept both reasons as she had been a Slytherin herself and her love of snakes was very strong.
There went another student taking one of the stuffed creatures she had set out. It brought a warm smile to her face to see that the students were enjoying them. Brandon got a wave in greeting as Hady watched him settle down with some food too.
Now here was a face she was glad to see was in high spirits! "Miss Marchand, hello!" came the cheerful greeting of the Professor. The young girls question came as no real surprise to her given last terms circumstances. I'm glad you like them. There isn't any wombats here today, so go on and select a stuffed friend if you'd like." There wouldn't be any wombats present at this sleep out, not unless someone else may have brought a stuffed one along with them?
Well would you look at that! There was indeed going to be some extra hands on deck tonight! And for that she couldn't be more thankful. "Good evening, thanks for joining us, with a turnout like this I'm going to be bound to need the extra hand or two." Norman's arrival was much appreciated. Seeing that suspicious look directed towards the owl, Hady had to hold back a grin. She did however give him the slightest nod of her head. He was correct in thinking the owl wasn't only an 'owl'.
My goodness, all of these bright smiling first years! This is what she really liked to see. The smiles and laughter even from a young one that had no idea what to expect. "Good evening, Mister Whittebrook. You're more than welcome to eat whatever you like on the snacks table whenever you're ready to." As long as he didn't snack on the creature snacks all would be well!
A small was sent in the direction of Phoenix as he also joined the ever growing group. With each student that arrived, Hady couldn't wait to get things started.
"Hello, Miss Durand. It would appear that they are, aren't they?" She cast another quick glance in the owls direction before her gaze returned to the girl once more and she smiled.
Just when she thought the arrival of more students could possibly be over, even more showed up! "Hello, Mister Devereaux. Don't you look comfy!" Oh, yes she say the X's and O's on his pajama bottoms.
"Well if you're not showing some Hufflepuff pride I don't know who is," Hady gave a gentle smile towards Kalie. If the young girl wanted a something else to go along with her pajamas there might very well be a badger in the pile of stuffed creatures.
There was a nod in greeting from her towards Sable Ileana as she watched her go join Vera. Best friends for sure, those two. This women knew that much when she saw it. And those two girls were like two peas in a pod.
That nod didn't go unnoticed, especially since it was coming from one of her youngest nieces here at Hogwarts. "Good evening, Miss Barrington. All I ask is that you keep a close eye on him, hm?" Not that she didn't think the kitten would be looked after but she wanted to make sure the arrival of any other creatures wouldn't be spooked away.
My, my, my! The amount of students here was more than a little surprising but Hady was pleasantly thrilled by this! The more, the merrier! And this was going to be one merrier gathering for a sleep over.
Turning her full attention towards what was a large group now, the creatures professor smiled. "Good evening everyone and welcome to what I hope is going to be a very fun sleep out! There's just a few things I would like to address before we really get started.. first being this is not a true lesson! It is simply a sleep out in the pastures for a little fun and to observe and maybe even interact with some of our more nocturnal creatures." That being said they weren't going to be graded on their participation or were they expected to answer questions tonight or partake in any activities that may involve creatures, should they not truly want to.
"The second thing I'd like to mention is everything here is perfectly clean. All sleeping bags and pillows are for whoever would like to use them. If you don't feel comfortable being out beneath the stars there are tents you may sleep in." The choice was completely theirs on that. "The stuffed creatures are also there for your enjoyment and they are yours to keep should you want to do so." She wouldn't be taking those back, they were for the students. However if there was certain ones remaining come tomorrow she might keep them to send home to her youngest daughter and nephew.
With a wave of her hand towards the foods and drink, Hady smiled once again. "There's no need to wait or ask should anyone be hungry or want a drink. You're all welcome to help yourselves and should something run out, please just let me know and I will handle it." More snacks and drinks could be gotten if needed. There is marshmallows and things for s'mores if anyone wants to make those.. the fire while warm and very much real will not harm anyone." As this was said, a wave of her wand and a whispered 'incendio' aimed at the once unlit fire now had it burning brightly with a magical fire. It was safe for them to get close to and cook marshmallows and keep warm. She would still be keeping an eye on that however, as fire was still fire no matter how many safety precautions were taken.
"Should anyone need to get changed or require the use of the restroom, those are over there." A wave of her hand was given towards these, both being labeled as such. Speaking of which, she hadn't gotten changed into her own pajamas yet. Well she should fix that. Another wave of her wand, this time directed at herself changed what she had been wearing into black pajama pants with a matching top, the design on them being none other than different species and colors of snakes. Sorry not sorry, she was the creatures professor after all.
Casting a look at all of the faces around her, she rocked on her heels for a moment. "Are there any questions before we continue?" This may not be a lesson but this was a large group and they were remaining outside overnight. So she would take a moment to answer anything anyone asked for moving on.
OMG!!! Now there was no way that Keighley would ever EVER miss a creatures sleep out! The fifth year didn't mind at all that she was arriving after everyone else had. She had a thing or two she needed to see to before making her way down to the pastures. Like that her cat Kanga was safe on her bed back in her dorm. And whether or not Livvy and Charlie were going to be showing up here as well. She was hoping that they both would.. though she wasn't sure if it would happen or not. Or what she would do if it did.. things might get incredibly awkward, very fast.
The blondes arrival showed her dressed in what was most certainly cat pajamas. Her slippers being cat paws that matched her light gray and white pajamas perfectly. As did the scrunchy that held her long hair back off of her face. "Hello, Professors!" she smiled brightly, waving at both Professor Paton and Professor Carton. Were they going to be the only two out here keeping an eye on things? Very brave of them! She would've guessed that there would have been more professors present for an event such as this one.
Quickly taking everything in, Keigh made a beeline directly for a face she could pick out of a crowd of a million students. "Heyyyyyy, Juuuuuude!" she called out in her most excited sing-song voice. "I made it!" Obviously. If anyone knew she would show up, it would be him. Hi, everyone else that was even remotely close to her big brother whom she now bumped her shoulder against as she stepped up beside him.
OOC: Whoa! Thank you everyone for joining us for the sleep out! I'm so sorry this took me ages to reply to, I wasn't my very best the last few days but I'm all good now and ready to get going. Hady covered most of the basics above but as well please ask anything you like and if anyone still has kiddos or staff! that want to join in, everyone's welcome at any time! :)
That sing-song voice! Jude was already before his eyes found cat-Keigh. Awww! Just look at her! His baby sister was ADORABLE in those pajamas and cat slippers!! “Heeey, Keigh!” he greeted, bumping her shoulder back. “I thought you might have gotten distracted by Olivia or Charlie.” Were they both here? Jude made a mental note to check up on Charlie since this was literally his first week at the School.
Hady was getting things started. Jude was certain he could read the happiness on her face with regard to the turnout. His attention happened to be stuck on s’mores. Those treats along with hot chocolate?? YES, PLEASE! The only questions he had concerned the making of s’mores. There were so many persons around with which he could make them with. Keighley was first on his list, the obvious reason being that they shared the love for s’mores and hot chocolate. “So, who wants to make s’mores with me and Keigh?” Jude asked at random.
Mitsuki did NOT care about the list of family members that Mercer might visit or how each home varied, which was disappointing but not surprising. Her family was big, her siblings also in multitudes, so it wasn't one of those things that struck her as interesting. She did look disappointed about the way sleepovers worked, though, and Mercer felt bad about making her feel bad. He sort of wanted to find a dangerous creature or a ghost to make her happy again. Or both.
"Sleeping is boring. That guy is boring," Mercer immediately dismissed the sleeping student and pulled Mitsuki's finger around until it was pointing at him instead. "I think we need an adventure. Is catching marshmallows fun for you? Because it sounds like something we're doing for me, not for you. Maybe we should go follow that owl around." Yeah, he noticed her noticing. Why hadn't he noticed it himself? Bugs and birds and big rocks were his whole thing. "Or... oh! This rabbit is possessed. We should do an exorcism!" He grabbed a stuffed animal, only to discover it wasn't actually a rabbit. Some sort of lopsided chipmunk, maybe? Squirrel with a short tail? "I can't feel its soul anymore, Suki. It's pretty bad."
Yukie loved it when people said nice things about her, so whenever her little cat ears got any recognition, she couldn't help but smile at whoever it came from. "Thank you, Des!" The Hufflepuff replied to her dorm mate. "Look at you, though! All pyjama-ed like someone off a story book. The horns won't be a bother, I hope." Yukie reached a hand out to poke then nose of Desiree's beast pillow. That's a cute one. It would fit right in with the stuffed animals Professor Paton had laid out for them.
She also bobbed her head from side to side when Jude pointed out her cat ears. "Thank you, I love them too!" Because it was just cute, it was also super helpful to keep her baby hairs off her face. Even Professor Paton received a grin and a thank you from the littlest Rasting. Cats deserved all the love, you see.
With Professor Paton's sort of welcoming speech for the evening's sleepover, Yukie was more than ready to dive into all the fun things available for them. Maybe a round of chubby bunny for the laughs? Yukie wasn't the best in that game, but she wasn't for the wins anyway. She didn't have any question herself for the professor. "I want hot chocolate. Does anyone else want hot chocolate?" She asked in general. They'd go well with smores, which she also planned to have.
Maybe she'd even get a badger stuffed animal for the sake of it. It'd be adorable.
This was going to be so cool! Max looked around hoping to find some hot chocolate. He found a mug and carefully took a drink. So they were going to spend the night with magical creatures? Interesting.
SarcasticStrawberry 01-13-2023 12:53 AM
Many many mentions.
Maisey was really having a hard time containing her excitement. There were so many things she liked that were happening at once. Sleepover, camping, food, friends, socializing and magical creatures. At this moment there wasn’t much more in her mind that could make this any better. Then a hufflepuff girl (Nancy who she had seen in her classes) introduced herself. ”Hi. I’m Maisey!” She said with a smile. She also nodded to the others who had gathered that she didn’t know either introducing herself to them as well. (Cassidy, Everleigh, Hope, and Brandon)
She was about to reply to Cassidy’s rules question stopped but answered her. ”Probably.” There were always rules. Boooooring. Anyway she smiled at her housemate, Lev when he kind of joyed the group of first years who had gathered. Beaming at Nora when she joined ”I bet it’s going to be wonderful, no matter what we learn.”
Then she spotted Wiley. She smiled and waved at him, noticing his pjs. Kenmare Kestrels that must have been a quidditch team. She had only heard of the sport and still felt like she was learning things about the sport everyday. She didn’t know all the teams by name yet ”You like Kenmare Kestrels?” She asked just trying to make a conversation with someone she knew a bit.
When Professor Paton spoke to her and complimented her PJs the Slytherin beamed at the Care of magical creatures professor excitedly. ”Thank you Professor Paton. I got them for my birthday this year.” Her mum and dad got it for her birthday. It was a very cozy onesie if she did say so herself.
She really wanted to go over to the fire and hang out with the boys if they were going over that way. She highly doubted that they would want a girl tagging along with them. Which girl was she going to snatch up and take to the fire with her. Oh look there was Giselle and Mysaria. Perfect. ”Hi, Giselle. Want to go over the fire and roast some marshmallows with me? Mysaria can come with us too!” She asked her dormmate, please please pleaseeee. Her infamous mischievous grin at her. She even hooked their arms together. See besties already.
She was just about to just drag Giselle over to the fire with her anyway. (She would never do such a thing) Until Nora said something about an owl… OWL??? WHERE?? ”Oh wow. An owl.” She gasped. Pretty. Although she did agree with Hope it was like the owl was watching them.
Then professor Paton was officially welcoming everyone. Maisey could honestly say that she wasn’t disappointed that this really wasn’t an actual lesson. She would definitely stop calling this a lesson now.
Holmesian Feline 01-13-2023 07:50 PM
Whoo whoo what owl?
Ah, there the owl found herself more noticed, a young Ravenclaw being the first to exclaim. Was she watching them? An older Hufflepuff seemed to have noticed her interaction with the transfiguration professor. And then an older Ravenclaw followed suit with the attention sent her way. The young Gryffindor who had been the first to react in surprise at the owl’s presence had switched to curiosity with the question the creature heard.
When the gathering was finally begun, the owl took off from her perch into the low skies to give a circuitous route around the campsite before finally heading in the direction of the two adults and towards the ground. Just a short distance before she would have landed, the feathered appearance of one great horned owl was replaced by a curly haired astronomy professor prepared for the evening under her life’s work. “Well I’d certainly say tonight seems like a success,” she mused with a smile to her fellow professors.
Rajesh smiled back at Mouse as she approached him and the professors. “Good evening,” he echoed with nod of agreement. Yes it certainly was a good evening. Especially as Professor Paton started it in earnest and the fire was set to ward off the autumn chill and make their snacks just a little more interesting. Following his friend’s gaze, he too noticed the owl, the raptor taking off from its perch as if tired of the attention it was getting from the students. The seventh year tried following its path with his gaze out of curiosity, only to find the new astronomy professor in its place.
“Um…good evening professor,” he greeted, inwardly berating himself for not thinking of the possibility. What with the fact it wasn’t bothered with all the humans around and watching them.
“Good evening, Mr. Atreyu-Rehman,” she greeted back. Her smile a touch bemused at his reaction and knowing he was likely not the only one to notice the change. Why couldn't she be a touch playful for the evening?
Mitsuki did NOT care about the list of family members that Mercer might visit or how each home varied, which was disappointing but not surprising. Her family was big, her siblings also in multitudes, so it wasn't one of those things that struck her as interesting. She did look disappointed about the way sleepovers worked, though, and Mercer felt bad about making her feel bad. He sort of wanted to find a dangerous creature or a ghost to make her happy again. Or both.
"Sleeping is boring. That guy is boring," Mercer immediately dismissed the sleeping student and pulled Mitsuki's finger around until it was pointing at him instead. "I think we need an adventure. Is catching marshmallows fun for you? Because it sounds like something we're doing for me, not for you. Maybe we should go follow that owl around." Yeah, he noticed her noticing. Why hadn't he noticed it himself? Bugs and birds and big rocks were his whole thing. "Or... oh! This rabbit is possessed. We should do an exorcism!" He grabbed a stuffed animal, only to discover it wasn't actually a rabbit. Some sort of lopsided chipmunk, maybe? Squirrel with a short tail? "I can't feel its soul anymore, Suki. It's pretty bad."
She did care...to an extent. Mercer and his family were essentially an extension of her one and the extension where she did not feel a melancholy tug to standout and be noticed. Given the circumstances of their conversation, however, she was under the impression that he was using his family to further illustrate his explanation for a sleepover (which was now being calling a sleep out and now she was curious as to how these two terms varied when they clearly must also be on the same Venn diagram). In any case, she did more better understand the situation and was appreciative of Mercer. There was even a small hint of a little smile, did he notice it?
Eyes crossing briefly as he redirected her finger towards himself. Cheeks tingling ever so slightly, her gaze shifted from entangled fingers to her friend's earnest features. "I don't think he is boring. He is Yumeki," she qualified with a curious tilt of the head. "Just as I did not think you were weird when he called you weird. You are perfectly imperfect and entirely Mercer." Mitsuki had no ulterior motive with her words, certainly not meaning to cause any conflict between the two, but simply making an astute observation and interesting comparison. At least it was intriguing to her.
"I have fun when you have fun," she nodded. That had been the theme of his birthday and crossing all that they could off his bucket list on the day and it was still a sincere theme when it came to their friendship. Watching Mercer adapt to her questionable tosses was rather enjoyable, though the reverse may be true for him. She was quite nimble thanks to performance calligraphy. Following the owl though...that sounded more entertaining and she was just about to say so when the reveal happened. Disappointment washed across the Ravenclaw's face as the professor emerged and, for a moment, a certain sense of betrayal set in. Misplaced, truly, but such was the cost with taking words so literally. "When Professor Paton said we may interact with nocturnal creatures," she began, gliding her way over to Mercer's side and slipping her arm around his so she could rest her head on his shoulder and whisper to him more easily. "Was that deception?" She had never believed it to be an actual owl, but the reveal of it being a professor and not something nonhuman was rather regrettable.
Perhaps she ought not to have politely returned the professor's smile when offered earlier?
Sighing softly, her cheek nuzzled Mercer's shoulder as she shifted to look at the rabbit...thing...in his hand. The one that was souless and certainly not possessed. Though, just to be certain...she did take some salt from her pocket and sprinkled it over the creature. No sizzle, no smoke, no indication otherwise. The solution was simple. "We ought to catch a soul then," she nodded solemnly but with an excited sort of gleam to her eyes. "We need to find a glowworm."
Chelliephone 01-14-2023 03:21 PM
When one of her yearmates also perched around the fire, Ve turned eyes towards her. Even if she didn't remember Kalie (which was sometimes not out of ordinary for her with... anyone), the pajamas were a dead give away for which house the girl belonged too. "Hi Kalie. I like your pillow." It looked really soft and fuzzy. Hard to sleep on maybe, but this was a sleepover which meant no sleeping would be happening anyways (except for the older Gryffindor apparently) so... perfect choice!
Feeling an arm loop through hers, she didn't NEED to turn her head to know who it was but she did so anyways, smiling at Sia. "I should have waited for you." Not because she was feeling particularly guilty that she hadn't, but because if she were to be entirely honest, she was bored without her best friend. Lifting up the tail end of her new pseudo snake companion, she booped Sable Ileana's nose with it before gesturing her head towards the bag brought along with. "Did you bring games or your notebook so we can plot more?" Because this did seem a good time. Maybe even a good time to start a plan considering how many students there were milling about - who would notice too smol Gryffindor absences?
Although, she did like Professor Paton and would somewhat hate to cause mischief at her event. Especially considering, did the woman just say they could keep the stuffed creatures? A teenager now or not, who didn't love a good stuffy. She might even double back later and see if there were any other reptilian types to snag for her room. There was some amusement too that it had to be said for people to just not... help themselves. It wouldn't be out if it wasn't for the students right? And clearly this child had no issue making her self right at home. Which is what she was even more prepared to do now that there was FIYAAAAH and s'more fixings. Head turned back to Sia with a giant grin. "SO should we go get a ton of marshmallows and roast them?" Eyes turned towards the other third year around too and she extended the invite to her as well, "Kalie, we're going to start on s'mores! Want to join us?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Jude's enthusiasm at her appearance had her feeling the most soft and beamed back at him. It was odd to her, that seeing someone here at Hogwarts the most... non-mundane of settings, could give such a vivid reminder of her family at home. She determined to make her way over to find him at some point in the evening. But for now, it appeared Professor Paton was officially kicking off the event. Mouse's eyes roamed over the space as each thing available was listed, taking note that she should probably figure herself a spot to sleep before lulling herself into a food coma - which was sure to happen considering all the snacks the Professor had supplied. Looking at the spread, and the reminder from the adorable outfit from the Hufflepuff, had the Ravenclaw having to restrain herself from humming out Be Our Guest.
Thankfully, the owl proved a good distraction from that as it swooped down towards them all. Mouse was not afraid of creatures, but perhaps her name made her a little skittish around the winged types so she flinched the slightest bit, before eyes opened and she noticed Professor Gert around where the owl had been heading. Oh. Is that why the creature had been so curious? It had been observation more than anything. An amused smile made it's way onto her features and a tiny giggle as well. "Hello, Professor." Unless it had already been common knowledge she was an animagus, Mouse couldn't help but feel she just gave up quite the advantage for this particular setting. Though it was probably far nobler to have made herself known, especially with all the interest she'd been garnering.
Attention shifted back towards Raj now that there was no longer the distraction of wildlife yet. "What do you think you'll get up to first?" Professor Paton had certainly provided them with plenty of options to keep all the students occupied for the evening.
Mercer froze at the nuzzling, although he tried to pretend he was studying the professor crashing their sleepover who had formerly been disguised as a bird. That was the thing Milo was always talking about, and he was tempted to point it out to Mitsuki... adults, especially Hogwarts adults, weren't trustworthy. That professor was probably a Hufflepuff, too, which even FURTHER supported Milo's theories about the universe.
"Very deception, yeah. Probably can't trust either of them. Make sure you salt around the sleeping bags, okay?" He tried to glance at the top of her head on his shoulder and just gave himself a headache. "I'd rather find a soul, anyway, so that is what I call fun." But it pleased him to no end to know that she liked the activities he chose. So many people just didn't get them at ALL. Didn't get him at all.
Anyone want to roast marshmallows with Nora? And OMG, owl!
The fact that this wasn't a true lesson, so to speak, was a relief to Nora. At the end of every day, she was exhausted and ready for a break. It was hard enough to convince herself to do her homework, much less to attend an after-hours slumber party that turned into a lesson. So with a sigh of relief, the first year cast a glance into the pasture to see if she could already spot something. So far, nothing.
The offer of food and drink drew her attention away from the pastures. "Anybody want to roast marshmallows with me?" she said, tossing the offer up to anybody around. She was still standing around in the vicinity of most of the first years, so maybe one of them was in the mood for marshmallows.
Before she could so much as think to gather up all the s'more making materials, she was again distracted by the movements of the owl. She watched, wide-eyed, as the owl swooped down and TURNED INTO A HUMAN BEING right before her very eyes. Yes, this was the muggleborn's very first experience with an animagus. She took a few stumbling steps backward before tapping the shoulder of whoever was standing nearby. "Did you... The owl just... The professor just..."
Max snorted at the girl's reaction. He turned to her.
"I mean, to be fair, it always amazes me that humans can turn into animals."
Did that sound rude? He hoped it didn't. He looked around a bit, looking for more sweets.
*slightly rearranged for flow*
Desiree was so glad to hear that there were no wombats among the stuffed animals! She smiled, nodding in reply to Professor Paton. As cute as all the plushies were, she’d hold off on picking one for now to make sure there were enough to go around. Besides, she already had a Beast, and he was sort of like a nocturnal creature. He spent all his time in a dark, dreary castle, so that counted, right?
Oh, Yukie knew Beauty and the Beast? Cool! Desiree positively beamed at the compliment, and she couldn’t resist a little giggle as her roommate gave the Beast’s nose a little poke. Who wouldn’t want to boop the Beast? He was so cute and fluffy! “Thanks,” she replied. Would the horns be a bother? Probably not. “I don’t think so. I can always take the hood part off or if all else fails, use the hoodie as a blanket.” The horns certainly wouldn’t be a problem if they were facing the opposite direction.
Jude’s compliment likewise got a big smile from Desiree. “Thank you!” she said, doing a very Belle-like twirl to show off her outfit front and back. Oh, so those pajamas were a gift? Then Jude’s parents had excellent taste! EIther that or Jude had good taste, and they just picked up something they knew he’d like. Her face brightened at the mention of stuffed animals, and she glanced at the table, her bright blue eyes scanning the offerings until one caught her attention. It was a hidebehind, but it didn’t look scary like the illustrations in her textbook. It had a happy face and long silvery fur. “What about that one?” she said, indicating the happy hidebehind plush. “He looks so cute and fluffy!”
S’mores sounded good too, though. “Sure!’ She said, eager to join Jude, Keighley, and whoever else wanted some. So eager, in fact, that she started making her way over to the fire. Along the way she noticed an older girl in a blue nightgown (Mouse). That outfit was giving her major Wendy Darling vibes! She wondered if that was intentional. Either way, it was magnifique! “Hi! I like your outfit,” she said, approaching the other girl. “I’m Desiree, by the way.”
Elsewhere in the crowd, she spotted Summer. Desiree smiled, giving her friend an extra princessy wave, but before she had the chance to talk to her, she was distracted by the owl circling the campsite. She watched in amazement as the owl turned into Professor Gert. Wow! She didn’t know the astronomy professor was an animagus! “Hello, Professor,” she greeted. “That was so cool!” She didn’t want to become an animagus herself, but she could appreciate a dramatic entrance when she saw one!
Was it just him or was that owl looking right at him? Still observing the owl, Norman noticed that it had green eyes. Unusual eye color for an owl, he thought. And did it just hoo at him? Now he was 100% convinced that the owl was an animagus.As a former Auror and an animagus himself, he had some idea how to identify one. The question was, who was it? Merlin, he hoped it was one of his newer colleagues and not some outsider here to cause trouble!
He caught Hady’s nod out of the corner of his eye, and understanding the meaning behind it, he relaxed a bit. If she was in on it, there was no cause for concern. Not that he would ever let on that he was concerned. He didn’t do overt displays of emotion, and more importantly, he didn’t want to worry the students. Speaking of whom, he briefly took his eyes off the owl and turned his attention to the students just in time to catch Atreyu-Rehman’s greeting. “Good evening, Mr. Atreyu-Rehman,” he replied with a polite nod. “Enjoying the night so far?”
Norman stood by, respectfully listening as Hady gave a rundown of the night. The mention of s’mores got a slight smile from him. He wasn’t much for junk food (though he might be persuaded to have some tonight), but he knew enough about camping to know that s’mores were practically a requirement. So… he took it Hady didn’t have a job for him yet? In that case, he’d just hang back and keep an eye out for shenanigans. Speaking of which…
Norman wasn’t the slightest bit surprised as he watched the owl take off, circle, and transform. Ha, he knew that wasn’t a real owl all along! “Good evening, Celeste,” he greeted his now human colleague with a smile. “Impressive display.” Maybe he should’ve shown up in his animagus form!
It truly could encourage paranoia in students, something Mitsuki would particularly be paying attention to in the coming weeks as for many of them it was likely their first exposure to such manifestations of magic. Her thoughts wandered a bit, recollecting the conversations with Milo about this subject and she briefly wondered just how many creatures roaming the grounds may be professors in creature for set to observe them. Historically speaking as well, this was a known practitioner of perhaps one of the greatest betrayers of the past century depending on whose lens you read history through.
"Disappointing," she nodded, though less a description of the deceit and more that she had been anticipating something else entirely. This was the sphinx debacle all over again. Attention back on Mercer, the fourth year nodded her head (again with the temple nuzzle to his shoulder) and set to applying a bit of salt around the sleeping bags immediately. She likely had just enough to do so again before they fell asleep for the night ... assuming they did so. Mercer had said that sleep was boring so perhaps he would be keeping her up all night. That might be nice, the sunrises here at Hogwarts were quite nice. Returning to Mercer's side once she had circumnavigated their sleeping bags, Mitsuki looked around for a jar or something that they could keep the glowworms in once they found some. "We need something to hold them once we find them," she noted, fully engrossed on their newest mission. "I suppose we could always create a breathable magical barrier over the top of a mug," she mused aloud while examining one of said mugs in their possession. "First we must rid it of all these marshmallows."
She was not opposed to just dumping them on the ground here. The ants would appreciate the oddering.
Nora had just regained her balance and somewhat collected her thoughts, when she became aware somebody was talking to her. "Amazing me would be an understatement," she managed to say. This was literally beyond anything she had ever seen or heard of in her entire life. It was official. She was staying far away from the Astronomy professor for now. "So, uh, what just happened here?" she asked. A glance around told her she was literally the only one, as of now, phased by this at all.
Meanwhile, the s'mores could wait. The first year was still somewhat terrified that a literal owl had just turned into a literal professor. So did that mean the professor was really an owl? Or was the owl really the professor? All these thoughts and more were running through her mind and causing her to forget the deliciousness of the s'mores that she'd been planning on eating.
Max shrugged.
“Not entirely sure how it works but humans can turn into animals by choice sometimes. Mum told me you need to be registered to be an animagus. Reckon there’s some sort of class on it.”
He reached over and grabbed a chocolate bar. He broke it in half and offered her a piece.
Kolyander 01-17-2023 03:03 PM
Hadleigh waited a few moments, watching the students mostly to see where they each were going and what seemed to be the most popular activity right now. From what it looked like to her, it was hot chocolate and s'mores. She couldn't blame any of them for that, what better way to kick off a sleepover than drinks and snacks?
With no one asking any questions pertaining to anything that she had just spoken about, it was time to really get things started. Especially with the arrival of Celeste's entrance which made her smile as she had been the only one to know about this. However some of the students appeared a bit unsure of this, while others appeared to be delighted. Might as well clear that up a bit! "Thank you for joining us tonight, Professor Gert. I would say that so far it is." It was certainly a success in so many showing up! Turning to the students she smiled softly again. "As most of you all have noticed, Professor Gert can turn into an owl at will. For those of you that don't know what that means, it means that she is an Animagus. She can change into a creature, in her case an owl at will and back again. Now this isn't at all easy to accomplish and takes a great deal of dedication, time, studying and focus." At this Hady took a moments pause to give that a second to sink in.
"Being this isn't a lesson and I don't teach transfiguration, we won't be going into all of those details on what it takes to become an animagi tonight. Our topic tonight besides having a great time out here is nocturnal creatures. Which is why I asked for her help. I might be in charge of many creatures but I do not know what it's like to be an owl.. I can only tell you all what it's like for me while I'm in my own animagi form." Which also happened to be a nocturnal creature but they would get to that shortly.
Another pause from her and a quick glance around, Hady clasped her hands behind her back. I do have creatures here that I will be bringing out. Before I do does anyone have any questions about what was just said?"
Her attention turned to Norman for a quick second. "Feel free to have whatever you like as well. Join the students even if you want to." Of course it was up to him what he wanted to do but the more eyes everywhere, the better, yes?
"I did for a little bit," Keighley admitted to Jude. She couldn't help it, there was a certain amount of time that she aimed to spend with both Liv and Char. It was very important to her that they knew how she felt and how much of a true effort she was putting into each relationship. "I'm really hoping they both show up.. even if it's only for a little while." Wishful thinking is what she was doing. "Right now though s'mores sounds amazing!" Was she bouncing on her toes? Erm, yes, yes she was!
Keigh smiled warmly at Desiree. "Great! Should I get us all some hot chocolate to go with it?" They may as well enjoy themselves and go for whatever snacks they all wanted.
Mercer was scandalized that Mitsuki wanted to just DUMP those marshmallows, and he immediately set about stuffing the rest into his cheeks like a very tall chipmunk. Waste not, want not, and all that. He gave the professors a disinterested glance... again, they were basically advertising their intention to spy on students as rodents and birds all term. Milo must be losing his chill somewhere at this very moment.
"What if the glowworms are professors? What if all the fish in the lake are? What if someone's pet cat is and it sees me in the bath? What you need to figure out is how to shake salt on a person pretending to be an animal that makes them turn into their person form? I'm feeling very vulnerable right now." Also extremely over-sugared, but that was a different problem. "I kind of want to sleep inside now."
Holmesian Feline 01-18-2023 03:12 AM
There seemed to be mixed reactions to her appearance before them. Was that a look of disappointment from Ms. Rasting? At least her slightly elder housemate appeared more amused at the situation. As was a young badger, “Hullo Ms. Durand, Ms. Marchand,” she greeted them with a smile. See, no harm in having a little fun with things when they were supposed to be enjoying the experience out of doors while learning. “Glad that ye enjoyed it.”
Celeste certainly had, especially playing with her colleague who of course had to have figured it out. “Guid evening, Norman she greeted, returning his smile. “Thank ye… I was already flying down.” One could only make the trip up and down the astronomy tower so many times a day, especially at her age. Though she had arranged it with Hadleigh beforehand upon hearing her planned theme for the gathering seeing as it was an option for assistance. “Ye’re welcome…glad to help,” she remarked to the woman, simply inkling her head as the COMC professor explained what was going on to the students. Yes, transfiguration was coincidentally the subject of the third professor in their trio, Celeste chancing a glance to see if he had anything to add while listening for any questions she might be able to answer.
The great outdoors…the night sky…the prospect of creatures…and amusing antics of professors…what’s not to like? “Yeah, I am,” Rajesh admitted to his head of house taking it all in. As for Mouse’s question, he turned back to her as he thought it over. “I was thinking s’mores…” Traditional campfire food to get in the sleepover and camping mood while they awaited whatever Professor Paton had planned with their future guests. Besides who knows of he would get himself too distracted by what was to come to enjoy said food later on. “What about you?”
Nora stared at Max in slight disbelief. How he could explain the whole owl-to-human transformation so calmly? Nora, on the other hand, wasn't even sure she was ready to talk to Professor Gert after what she'd just seen. She'd need a little bit longer to wrap her head around it first.
"Okay, so...the professor is indeed a human? Just one that can change into an animal any time she wants?" she clarified. "Can she be any animal? Or just an owl?" Because if she could also turn into a dragon, Nora was out of here. "Thanks," she added, taking the piece of chocolate he'd broken off for her.
Nora turned her attention back to the professor. She was explaining what Max had already told her, but the first year still hadn't convinced herself it had just really happened. Then she became wide-eyed for a second time in the past five or so minutes. PATON WAS AN ANIMAGUS, TOO?! Could anyone around here be trusted at all? Nora did have a question, but she didn't want to speak up and ask it right now. What kind of creature could Paton turn into?
This level of nervousness really killed the s'more-making mood she had once had.
FearlessLeader19 01-18-2023 11:30 PM
Jude had been keeping a suspicious eye on that owl. He kind of expected it to begin attacking students so when it took off, he kept a wary eye on it. You know, just in case he needed to go all ninja on it should it attack his sister. Imagine his surprise when it landed not far from Carton and Paton and transformed into Professor Gert. OH! She was an Animagus! How neat!
Desiree certainly seemed as though she belonged on a runway with the way she spun to show off her outfit. Maybe a runway in Paris - the city she loved so much. His gaze followed her indication and a happy smile crossed his features. “I agree! Hang on.” The seventh year jogged over to the table to snatch up the plushy. “It’s even cute up close, don’t you think?” he asked when he got back.
Jude snuck his hand into his sister’s so that they could follow Desiree over to the fire. “I’ve got the marshmallows!’’ he announced as he headed over to grab a pack or two. The marshmallows were for both the s’mores and hot chocolate, he reminded himself, even as one of the squishy treats popped into his mouth. Oops! “They’ll be here,’’ he remarked confidently. “I mean… they’ll get to hang out with you… for a bit each…’’ Jude trailed off, foreseeing the issue of Keigh splitting her time between Charlie and Olivia. And him. The seventh year himself was yet to adjust to Keighley no longer hanging out with him as much.
With regard to Hady’s words, he had no questions. Nope! All was clearly understood, even if the boy wasn’t that into Animagi things.
Milo must be losing his chill somewhere at this very moment.
"What if the glowworms are professors? What if all the fish in the lake are? What if someone's pet cat is and it sees me in the bath? What you need to figure out is how to shake salt on a person pretending to be an animal that makes them turn into their person form? I'm feeling very vulnerable right now." Also extremely over-sugared, but that was a different problem. "I kind of want to sleep inside now."
It was an impressive thing, Mercer's mouth, and she found herself watching it intently as he continued pushing marshmallow upon marshmallow into it and just how the curve of his lips created a full cheeks induced smile as he did. It elicited a little bit of a smile from herself as well and a near giggle were it not for what Mercer said next.
"We need to learn a bit of Untransfiguration," she said decidedly. Her friend had a point in that, besides objective observation and well educated guesses, that it was very difficult and could be impossible to know for certain what was and was not a witch or wizard in animagus form. Which was something that one could easily find in a book from the library and practice just about anywhere. Of course it may take some effort practicing on an actual animagus in order to know for certain that one's spellwork was proficient, but there was a feasible check list and path with which to accomplish it. Thankfully she was able to hold her tongue from elaborating further and add insult to emotional injury by reminding him of the existence of Polyjuice Potion and people with the abilities of her mother and grandfather. Tilting her head a bit and observing Mercer's body language and general jittery nature, Mitsuki slipped her hand into his free one. "We can sleep in a tent if you want or go back inside," she offered, no further questions asked. She had no real attachment to staying outside here at the party, especially if Mercer was not going to. "We can collect a soul later, once we learn the spell and know for certain."
Untransfiguration? Trust Mitsuki to know just exactly the thing that they needed. Between her and Milo, Mercer was constantly being pulled from the edge of utter disaster. How did he live the first eleven years of his life without the two of them sharing his common room? He patted the top of her head with his free hand.
"We should collect one now. I'm not scared if you aren't. 'Sides, maybe I should write my Gran and ask her about how to tell if professors are trustworthy." Seeing as how she was a former Headmistress herself, it was very possible that she would have insight that would be helpful. Granted, there'd been more than a few shenanigans in the family history regarding possessed, ghostly, be-potioned, be-witched, and otherwise frightening professors... it would be a long return letter, he was sure. "You hold hands with all your friends?"
It was easy to pull Mercer from this theoretical edge of utter disaster when the solution was quite obvious. While she may not share entirely in his paranoia, still just sheer disappointment, she did want to know who and what was in front of her rather than simply think she knew and be proven wrong. The pang of disappointment was uncomfortable.
Mercer patting her head was the opposite, however. Though in the moment she had almost forgotten just how tall he was now and practically towered over her. She could see right up his nose sometimes when she looked up at him.
"I am not," she confirmed with a small nod of the head. She could offer to write to her grandfather, but seeing as he was manipulated and entrancing enchanted by the Neo-Alliance...she had the feeling that his opinion would be a little too skewed on the matter. "Perhaps we could compile a list and include her guidance." They already had their shared journal where they wrote each other messages or drawings or whatever may have struck them in the moment - even if that was a leaf. It was two fwoopers with one stone to record their observations in that journal and build upon them thus. At his asking she shifted her gaze from looking, mostly, up Mercer's nose to their intertwined fingers. "I do not." Milo did not like holding hands and only really tolerated it on the rare occasion, like when they had all three gone to the dance together, and the thought had never crossed her mind much with anyone else. "It is possible that it is only you that this is commonplace."
Was the mug marshmallow free now? The wind was whooshing and whirling to gently nudge them away from the spot they were standing if so.
Hope's attention immediately turned from watching the kitten to the sudden appearance of one of the professors, who had only a few minutes ago appeared as a hawk. "Oh, that was wonderful!!" she exclaimed aloud, clapping herhands together. She knew what an Animagus was, of course--there had been a woman in their village who could transform into a raccoon, but she had died a few years ago. But Hope had never seen anyone transform back as neatly as this professor did--and while flying in for a landing, too!
Which also happened to be a nocturnal creature but they would get to that shortly.
Another pause from her and a quick glance around, Hady clasped her hands behind her back. I do have creatures here that I will be bringing out. Before I do does anyone have any questions about what was just said?"
"So, you remember what you do and feel when you are transformed, then?" Hope had always wondered about that. And when you're in your animal form, do you remember that you're a human being?"
"I know you like lists," Mercer agreed. She knew he'd agree with whatever her plan was. That was the beauty of the M-cubed squad. One of them always had a plan, and the other two made it happen. It wasn't always a good plan or a well thought out plan, but they made it work. Milo would probably be keen to figuring out which professors couldn't be trusted, honestly.
He turned the empty mug upside down to show Mitsuki the contents were gone before offering it up. Why did she choose him for hand holding, if it wasn't a her thing? Was there something about him that suggested a pathological need for comforting and direction? Maybe a big red sign on his forehead that said 'hold this poor boy's hand'? Should he be embarrassed? "If you only hold hands with me, that makes me your booooyfriend."
Helpful as always, Branxton.
Despite not being the sort to come up with a daily to-do list, which may actually be a good method to keep her mind and body from wandering all about the place, she did enjoy lists a lot. She sincerely hoped that he would come up with another birthday list for them to accomplish this term, or she supposed they could simply try and continue those that they had not crossed off from last term first and then go from there. Would depend on how they felt when his birthday came around once again. "I do," she nodded and with another small hint of a smile. Maybe Milo could help them code it too so that if it fell into the wrong sort of hands then they would not be able to understand it without knowing the codex.
One thought at a time though. They needed a list first.
Accepting the mug and giving it a quick inspection before they began their search, Mitsuki would have been pleased by his thought process and mild self awareness - though he need not feel embarrassed by being any sort of person seeing as no matter what he was uniquely Mercer. Also. there was no sign on his forehead of any sort - for what that was worth. She had only just taken a couple of steps along with the next push from a gentle breeze when Mercer spoke. While his phrasing was a little curious, she thought it odd that Mercer only now piece together that he was a boy friend and had been for many years now.
Considering the discussions that had happened at the Rasting residence over the summer, she really ought to not be so unaware.
"Yes," she nodded again, though this time with a slightly confused tilt of head while doing so. "If that is how you define it."
UM HOLD THE DING DANG PHONE. Did PRofessor Paton just say that she was an animagi? Vera HAD been interested in going in search of s’mores, but more information on that (which she was suprised she hadn’t realized!) as well as the incoming creatures seemed FAR more important. “Are you a reptile, Professor Paton?” Oh gosh, how cool would that be. Could she pick her animagus form if she became one? Instead of having a basilisk could she BE a basilisk!? Vera now had a million questions and three amazing resources before her so… forget s’mores, she would not be moving from this spot. Instead staring WIDE EYED at the three professors
**************************
Hearing a voice behind her, Mouse turned to see the girl with the amazing Beauty and the Beast inspired ensemble and the cutest little Beast stuffy. And she was complimenting HER outfit? That certainly should have been the other way around, though naturally she also appreciated the kind words. “Thank you! I’m a big Disney fan so I was hoping to be Wendy-esque for the night. I LOVE your look! The hood is even extra cute! Big fan of Beauty and the Beast?” Please say yes because she could talk for hours about anything Disney and quite liked to do so. Offering her hand in a quick greeting, she beamed back. Enchante, Desiree! Minerva Durand, but you can call me Mouse.”
She smiled back at Professor Gert as she offered her greetings, giving a small nod back. “You certainly gave us all surprise! What does flying like that feel like, Professor?” She imagined it was amazing, but couldn’t help herself from asking someone who actually got to experience it. Attention turned towards Raj again as well as he answered her initial question, looking over the clearing again as well. “I hadn’t decided yet. S’mores sounds good but now I’m pretty intrigued by whatever critters were about to meet.” She hoped at least one was a bat, the puppies of the sky.
Logan had been ... well, surprisingly quiet. With there being a handful of professors around, he had no choice but to be on his best behaviour, especially when one of those said professors was his mother. So, to keep himself preoccupied, the third year had been stuffing snacks into his mouth. He planned on doing so until his stomach told him no.
The Animagus talk didn't capture his attention. He didn't even perk up at the mention of it considering both of his parents were Animagi and the whole ordeal was quite normal to him. While he was momentarily surprised by Professor Gert's entrance, his focus shifted to his own internal thoughts. What creatures did his mum have for them to see? Would they get to tell scary stories soon? Would they be able to venture into the forest to strike up a chat with the sphinx?
He was brought back into reality when he managed to register the questions that Hope and Vera asked. Logan, of course, knew those answers. "Yes and yes," he responded to Hope. Then, to Vera, he muttered, a few crumbs spewing out of his mouth as he was still in the process of chewing, "She transforms into a --" Spoiler alert! "-- red panda. And my dad can turn into a crow." The more you know. :music:
With that said, the boy carried on with his chewing. Hmm. Where was Beans? It wasn't a campout without his canine companion!
Mercer's hand went slack in Mitsuki's and he paused to give her a blinking look. Fiiiiiirst of all, were there various definitions for boyfriend? And second, didn't it matter more what her definition was? Or his? Why didn't she want to know his definition?
Perhaps third of all, she'd just said that yes he WAS her boyfriend, and that made him feel like he'd sat down too fast and his stomach was up around his ears. It wasn't exactly a romantic or proper way to ask a girl, now was it? "Ah, I see. Well. I'm glad you told me, because I didn't know. I have to..." Write to Cooper and ask what it meant now that he was a boyfriend, apparently. "Catch you a glowworm, clearly!"
In the silents moments that followed, Nora had somehow managed to return to her senses. Nobody else had seemed the least bit phased by the animal-to-human transformation, so that in itself calmed her nerves. This part of the magical world was going to take a lot of getting used to, but just like every thing else she'd encountered, she'd get through it.
"Well, that good. At least other people know what to expect," she remarked. Being a bunny rabbit one second and a dragon the next would terrifying, she imagined. As she talked, she wandered over to the snack table, assuming Max would follow. Maybe some of the treats would get her mind off what she'd just experienced. "I wonder what else she has planned?"
Keighley beamed at Professor Gert when she landed not to far from her and Jude and Desiree. The woman was an Animagus like their cousin Hady, now that was awesome. There had been many times where she considered getting herself set up for all the hard work that went hand in hand in becoming one.. but she already had so much on her plate she wasn't positive that she could handle another that required such dedication.
Jude rushing off to get and then return with a stuffed creature made her giggle. "Now how cute is that! It's so fluffy looking!" It looked like a real version of a hide behind, only smaller! "What other creatures are over there, Jude? Maybe I'll get one for Livvy and Charlie."
Feeling Jude take her hand, she smiled and gave it a soft squeeze. "Don't go hogging all of the marshmallows," she giggled. "If you want some, Desiree.. you might want to take them from him now before he eats them all." Keigh was only joking of course."I hope they do. Yeah but we can also spend time with you, give you more of a chance to get to know them." This was directed at Jude as she spoke about her partners showing up for the sleep out. She really hoped that they did.
Professor Paton smiled once again in thanks to not only Celeste but to Norman as well. It was very helpful to have two more pairs of eyes when so many younger ones were concerned.
Surprisingly there wasn't as many questions as she expected but that was perfectly alright. She would answer the ones that were and any others that came up throughout the night. Overhearing Nora and Max and her son Logan answering chiming in on an important question asked by Hope, that was where she would start. "When becoming an Animagus, not only does it take a lot of studying, time and dedication to the entire process there are a few things to keep in mind. First being that you DO NOT get to chose what your form is. You won't get to know for sure until you transform into it." There was a brief pause before she continued. "Now for most being able to cast the patronus charm may be a huge indicator as to what your Animagus form will be. However that wasn't the case, mine are both different which was very rare." How rare.. she didn't know but she did know that she's never met anyone else that had different forms.
"Another important thing to keep in mind is that you only transform into one creature. That's it. So if you do all of that work and finally transform into lets say ummmm.. a grasshopper and you aren't happy with that.. well there's not a thing you can do about it other than never transform into that again." Meaning there wasn't anything to be done about it.
There was also another important aspect of learning to become an Animagus but it had nothing to do with what creature they would turn into. Therefore she wouldn't bring it up right now. A soft smile graced her lips as she looked at Hope next. "That's a very question and as Logan said, yes. When you change into your form and then back again, everything is remembered. You are still very much yourself the entire time." That was something that she very much appreciated about the process. Being able to know that whatever she did she would remember.
Now that was a question she was waiting for. And to have it come from Vera made her laugh softly. "Given my incredible love or reptiles one might think that I can change into one.. I can not. What I do change into is a red panda. And just in case you're curious now that I said earlier that my patronus is different, that form is a fennec fox." She had nothing at all to hide.
"One last thing before I start bringing out the creatures I have brought along for tonight.. some of them are a little skittish as they are nocturnal creatures. Others will happily go to you if you call them." Her attention shifted onto her son for a moment as if she knew exactly what he was thinking earlier. "Before you even ask me, he's here. I knew you would want him." Beans that is. The crup while not nocturnal, though sometimes she wondered about his strange sleeping habits, was present. "Who can tell me some nocturnal creatures? Maybe ones that you would like to see tonight if given the chance?"
FearlessLeader19 01-22-2023 07:59 PM
Oh, Keigh liked his new friend? Jude held it out to her. “Loads more like this little fellow here. Loads of nocturnal fellows too! I’m sure you’ll find something for both Charlie and Olivia.’’ He made a playful face at her in relation to the marshmallows. “I can’t promise anything!’’ So she and Desiree had better get the marshmallows while they were there in front of them, exactly as Keigh had warned their fellow Hufflepuff. Jude couldn’t help but laugh at the warning. “She’s got a point, Desiree. I also don’t think Professor Paton would be impressed if I finish off the majority of her stash.” As for a certain Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw spending time in his company, he didn’t mind. He liked them both well enough.
Jude divided up his attention so that there would be ample of it paid to his cousin and her Animagus talk. He shuddered to think of Hady turning into a snake or any reptile at all. Yeah… no. Nope! His warm, loving Hady as a red panda was much better. But enough of reptiles! Jude was all set to set his eyes on the nocturnal babies! “Badgers are mainly nocturnal,’’ the seventh year piped up.
Uh huh.
He was repping his House loudly and proudly! :hufflepuffmagic:
Chelliephone 01-24-2023 04:56 AM
Accusing eyes were turned to Logan as he answered her question about his mom, the gaze widening even more hearing Mr. Paton was also an animagi. "Wait, really? your dad too?!" Her nose wrinkled a bit too and despite the fact he was not close enough for it to be an issue, she wiped at her shirt and her new stuffed snake to make sure none were on them, before reaching over and stealing a snack.
And then Professor Patonwas talking and Ve was hanging onto every word. There was a lot of disappointment that one did not get to choose - there went her dreams of being a basilisk. But it still sounded very cool. "where you disappointed it wasn't a reptile?" She asked, a sympathetic note to her tone. She would have been. Although.... Red pandas were VERY cute. "Can we see your animagus form sometime?" Professor Gert just had given them a demonstration, so it seemed only fair! "Skunks are nocturnal!" And actually really cute if you could get over the smell. "Do you have a non-smelly skunk we could hang out with?" Maybe she should just check the stuffed creatures again.
Attempting to snag another one of Logan's snacks, she asked. "Are you going to try to be an animagi too?" And then to him and Sia on the other side. "We should practice our patronuses now! I reaaaally want to know what mine is. And just imagine if we could cast a corporeal one by our OWLs!"
Holmesian Feline 01-25-2023 01:44 AM
Ah there was another student who seemed excited about her demonstration, the young Ravenclaw clapping. “Thank ye, Ms. Archard. Glad you enjoyed.” Seeing people amused and interested in the process was always refreshing, especially to one to whom it was almost second nature. Celeste had been an animangus since her own graduation from Hogwarts, many moons ago. The girl’s questions seemed to be aimed at her colleague however, who she left Hadleigh to them.
Oh look…a question for her directly. “It is…quite thrilling,” she remarked as she worked to find the right words for Ms. Durand. “Though nerve wracking the first few times for sure.” Even for a Gryffindor like herself. She was definitely thankful to have her future husband right there beside her in his more experienced falcon form when she was learning her wings. And that she wasn’t afraid of heights.
As for the ones Professor Paton was answering, Celeste had to admit she herself was intrigued by the fact that the younger woman’s patronus and animangus form were not only different but not necessarily close to similar. “Now mine are actually the same, though I technically learned them in reverse, having always had more of a proficiency in transfiguration than charms.” A longstanding family trait.
Now a grasshopper? Now that was a horrible form.
Okay so S’mores were in but on hold in favor of more interesting things according to his friend. Which Raj was all for too, quite interested himself in seeing what exactly his aunt turned professor had in store for them. “Me too…” But first there was one final question being asked of those gathered around for the sleepover. “Ball pythons are nocturnal,” Rajesh supplied. You know, for Aunt Hads the reptile fan. Though more mundane and and any nearby likely in the reptile house.
Was the moon right for mooncalfs? The seventh year glancing absently at the astronomy professor.
emjay 01-26-2023 01:47 AM
As soon as the professor gave him permission, Wiley headed straight for the snacks. He grabbed his own cup of hot chocolate in one hand, then some of the necessary ingredients for s'mores in the other. Now that the fire was lit, he wanted to maybe roast some marshmallows and make some s'mores. That just seemed like the right thing to do tonight.
He turned to follow Brandon and Regulus towards the fire, figuring that was where they'd be sitting and that they could all share s'mores, when he spotted Maisey first. He looked down at his pajamas when she mentioned the team. "Well yeah, of course! It's my dad's team," he said proudly. But he thought most people knew that. And he didn't even consider that she might not know the team at all.
And before he could say anything else, the owl that he had just given a passing notice, turned into their Astronomy professor. "Cool!" He hadn't realized that she was an animagus. He was familiar with them of course, but it had taken him slightly by surprise. Well anyway, hopefully they'd get a chance to interact with some actual creatures too as he was curious to see what Professor Paton was going to bring out. She was an animagus too though? Huh. What were the odds of having TWO animagus teachers?
Kolyander 01-26-2023 05:48 PM
When offered the stuffie from Jude, Keigh didn't hesitate to take it from him and give it a little cuddle. "Perfect! I'm not sure what to get for Liv but it should be cute.. and Charlie.. well he likes horses." She was going to find the perfect one for each of them. "I expect nothing less from you sooooo..." Don't mind her for snagging a few marshmallows from him now! "I think she'd be more worried about you making yourself sick from eating so many." Keigh didn't think that Hady would get upset over it.
*****
"That they are! Adorable and fierce too when they need to be." Professor Paton nodded in reply to Jude.
A small quiet laugh slipped past her lips at all the questions that came from Vera. "Surprisingly, I wasn't. As much as I adore reptiles, the connection I have with my Animagus form is very strong. After I learned what red pandas represented, I knew it fit me perfectly." The form a person took when becoming an Animagus was a part of them, a true match to their inner selves. "You can, I have no problem with showing you all at some point tonight. And that they are! Whether or not one is here with me, you'll just have to wait and see." She wouldn't be giving anything away too soon.
There was no denying that her smile grew a teeny bit at this answer. "Indeed they are as well!" She was glad someone brought them up and the fact that it was her nephew didn't surprise her at all.
"As promised I'll go ahead and bring out some of my creature friends that I have here with me tonight. Like I said earlier, some might be a little more nervous than others and not come close." That being said, Hady slipped away inside a tent that was larger than all of the others and very magically protected to keep the creatures inside safe and comfortable. It took a few minutes to release several creatures from their special enclosures so they could come out into the open if they choose to.
When she came back out, around her neck and wrapped around her arm was her albino python Amie whom resided in the Reptile Room when he wasn't with her or in her cabin. A whispered charm was lifted from the area to make glow worms and fireflies that had been present suddenly visible again. As well as other owls and squirrels that were hanging out in the trees.
Which creatures came out during the night would depend on the noise level and how the creatures were feeling. Bats, a badger, a sugar glider, Demiguise and other magical and non-magical creatures were present. Each one had been under the professors care at some point and none would harm the students which is why she felt very sure with allowing them free roam for now.
OOC: Hello! Soooo this rp should actually be over LOL but due to my own very slowness in posting at the start of it I've kept it open longer so we could get the creatures out as promised LOL... I won't be having Hady announce every single creature as they come around. I've listed some above but if the creature is nocturnal then your kiddo is free to mention them, ask about them or interact with them! As long as none of the creatures are dangerous of course! I'll be leaving them open a little longer so everyone gets a chance to enjoy this moment!
Attempting to catch up
Jude was right; that hidebehind plush was even cuter up close! Almost as cute as Desiree’s Beast pillow… almost. He (or was it a she? They?) was so cute, Desiree had to stifle a squeal when she saw it. “Aww, look how fluffy!” she said, giving the plushie a little pat on its head. “Have you thought of a name yet?”
Something else that was cute? Mouse’s outfit! “Ha, I knew it! You really nailed the Wendy look,” Desiree replied, beaming. Her face brightened at the mention of her outfit and her favorite Disney movie. Asdfjkl!!!! She knew Beauty and the Beast?! Desiree had just made a friend for life! She was unable to resist giving a very Belle-like twirl to show off her outfit. “Thank you! And yes, it’s been my favorite since I can remember. What’s your favorite Disney movie?” Whatever it was, she had probably seen it! Oh, did Mouse know French too, or was she just going along with the Beauty and the Beast theme? Merci beaucoup. I like that nickname! Was it meant to be a Minnie Mouse reference?”
Desiree didn’t need to be told twice about the s’mores. Giving Keighley a knowing wink, she sneaked several marshmallows. “I don’t think she’s the only one who would be unhappy about that!” she replied to Jude with a laugh. She popped a marshmallow into her mouth, setting the others aside to make s’mores. Mmm, they were so good! And so was the sweet smell that wafted through the air as she toasted her marshmallows.
Between all the snacks and conversation, Desiree had trouble focusing on Professor Paton. Oh, she was an animagus like Professor Gert? Cool! She gave a sidelong glance toward the transfiguration professor. Was he an animagus too? Come to think of it, were all of the professors animagi? While she still didn’t think she’d want to be one, it was rather interesting to learn about the process. As she listened, her thought turned to the patronus charm. She wondered what her own patronus might be. She hoped it was something graceful, like a unicorn or a butterfly, but she’d be happy with any form except a wombat!
She was so distracted that she forgot to answer Professor Paton’s question about nocturnal creatures, so she turned her attention to observing them instead. As she glanced around ,she spotted a sugar glider not far from where she was seated. How cute! “Hello there,” she whispered, slowly reaching out a hand. Would it let her pet it?
Norman nodded in reply to Atreyu-Rehman. It was nice to see the students having a good time - and the same went for his fellow professors. What were the odds that all three of tonight’s chaperones were animagi?! The realization got a slight chuckle from him. “Had I known this was the plan, I would’ve shown up in dog form,” he remarked offhandedly, looking at his two colleagues. That wasn’t exactly a nocturnal creature, though. To Celeste, he added, “It must be nice to have an animagus form that flies. I’ll bet that ability comes in handy.” Other than for having fun, he meant.
He stood off to one side, quietly observing as Hadleigh spoke. As this was her gathering, he was content to let her take the lead, though he was unable to resist chiming in when the conversation turned to transfiguration, more specifically animagi. Not only was that his subject, but it was something with which he had personal experience. “Professor Paton is right,” he said with a nod. “I’d also add that becoming an animagus takes lots of patience and perseverance, in addition to the time, study, and dedication she mentioned. It’s a demanding process with no room for error. Any setbacks you encounter, be they mistakes or just bad timing, and you have to start over. It took me nearly two years to do it.” He wasn’t one to blab about his past, but it seems pertinent to give the students an example. “The important thing is to keep trying; you’ll get there. Anyone who wants to learn more about animagi, come to my office sometime.”
That was enough of him blathering on! They were here for creatures, not transfiguration. He listened intently, glancing at Hadleigh with an intrigued expression as she mentioned that her patronus and animagus were different. Well, that was interesting - and certainly a rarity! As both of his colleagues had revealed their patronus and animagus forms, he supposed he might as well do the same. Not so much for his own benefit, but he saw the reactions of some of the students when Celeste transformed. Best that they know now, so they hopefully wouldn’t be frightened if they ever encountered a large dark-colored dog roaming the castle. “Like Professor Gert, my patronus and animagus are the same animal, a Sulimov dog,” he said.
Perhaps he’d demonstrate later.
Hope gasped softly as she saw all the creatures appear, one by one. Some she knew, and some were quite strange to her. She smiled as a black and white badger waddled close by her, looking up briefly over its shoulder as it continued on across the meadow on some sort of badgerly business. English badgers were so cute! Nothing like the rather fierce American badgers she was more familiar with.
Then she caught her breath as a strange creature suddenly appeared next to her. What was this? She had never seen anything like it before, with its long silvery hair. She stared into its deep black eyes, like pools of ink, and felt she was truly looking at magic.
Nom, nom, nom. "Mhhhhhhm," he replied to Vera, stalling for a moment as he finished up chewing what was currently in his mouth. As he was a bit preoccupied to move his snacks away, his housemate did manage to swipe away. He would remember that later. "Very useful for him since he's an Auror and everything."
He did pause for a moment to consider whether or not he was going to try to become an Animagus like his parents. "Haven't really thought about it. Maybe? Mum and Dad told me it's really hard to do. Takes a lot of dedication and time." As for the Patronus, well, that was something he wanted to do. "I'm sure yours will end up being a skunk or a slug."
Logan didn't bother answering his mum's next question about what creatures were nocturnal. Having a magizoologist for a mother and living where such creatures often found temporary homes, he had been exposed to many of them over the years. So the boy carried on with his snacking.
Huh. So Professor Carton was an Animagus too? Was that becoming a requirement to work at Hogwarts these days? His blue eyes tracked the man, waiting for a demonstration. But when one didn't happen, his eyes wandered away since the nocturnal creatures were coming out to play.
"That's a Demiguise," he mentioned to Hope, seeing that she had locked eyes with the peaceful creature. "He's a fun little guy."
But where was Beans? Sure, the crup wasn't nocturnal, but his mum had made it a point to tell him that he was wandering about. He shoved another snack in his own mouth and then held a snack at ground level. Knowing Beans, the dog wouldn't be able to resist.
Perhaps third of all, she'd just said that yes he WAS her boyfriend, and that made him feel like he'd sat down too fast and his stomach was up around his ears. It wasn't exactly a romantic or proper way to ask a girl, now was it? "Ah, I see. Well. I'm glad you told me, because I didn't know. I have to..." Write to Cooper and ask what it meant now that he was a boyfriend, apparently. "Catch you a glowworm, clearly!"
Was Mercer okay? The sudden slack in his grip, fingers and arms made her believe for a brief moment that he may very well pass out. Had he not eaten enough? They had not wandered all that far from the group just yet and the food tables were still very much within wafting distance that they could collect another mug full of marshmallows or something else should he fancy. He was speaking soon enough though, even if it was a bit disjointed and displaying a certain degree of distress. Rather than speculate, which so often lead to miscommunications and spreading falsities, it was best to have all the information before proceeding...which is what prompted Mitsuki to ask her veracious friend: "Are you alright?"
It was her turn to be a bit perplexed and, as was to be expected, her head titled curiously while she continued to observe him. "I thought you already knew." That he was her boy friend. Perhaps she had been too presumptuous as to who was and was not a friend. Hmm...something she may reflect upon later and sprinkle a bit of fertilizer on the seed of self doubt that had begun to sprout since the summer. Before further follow up could be had, such as asking if she ought to have told him (again?) earlier that he was an important piece in her existence, her friend was declaring that they needed to go find a glowworm and she could not agree more. "We need to catch a glowworm," she corrected softly with another hint of a smile. She would not just be standing around and watching him have all the soul catching fun.
Her steps modestly quickened and, while the rest of the class seemed to oh and ah about the number of animagi on the school faculty and creatures finally revealed, Mitsuki walked on with her hand in Mercer's away and around from the fire pit and (still?) sleeping Yumeki towards the edge of pastures shrouded in darkness in search of little flickers of glowworm light.
Thrilling had been a descriptor Mouse would have expected, though the nerve wracking seemed a surprise. Though the more she thought about it, the more that did seem to make sense. It sent her off on a whole mental tangent of considering that the animagi form was not chosen, as Professor Paton just stated, which meant that perhaps any fears of heights or the like were not taken into consideration. Just imagine that type of a disappointment. “Were you good with heights prior?” As for learning them in reverse, well that was certainly something!
Hearing Raj agree on being more interested in the creatures as well, she smiled at him, “You think Professor Paton got any help from your dads on this?” She figured probably not considering there was a lot of creatures around the grounds and yet, having such a resource seemed like a good additional opportunity as well.
The fact that someone had recognized her vibe for the evening, as well as complimented the look, had Mouse glowing with feeling of finding a kindred spirit at the school. Particularly as the other girl, Desiree, brightened at the further mention of Beauty and the Beast. “Thank you! I will say, Wendy is probably the easiest of the Disney inspired outfits I usually go for.” A nightgown, ribbon and black flats was really all she had needed. Mouse giggled at the twirl, before clapping her hands together in applause as well. “It’s a good one to pick! I always especially liked Belle’s intelligence and her ability to not be swayed but what is a handsome face.” Supposedly, it was hard to tell on the cartoon but Gaston WAS supposed to have been quite the looker. As for her favorite? “I think it’s a toss up between Beauty and the Beast and Mulan. I’m a sucker for the independent strong female leads!” Which of course meant there were a billion others she liked a lot too. It felt nice to hear any type of a french response - Mouse not even realizing until that moment that she’d actually missed hearing her native language more. Perhaps she should write to maman more, at least be able to write and read in it still. Giggling at the question, the brunette’s head bobbed. “My parents blessed me from the beginning to be a Disney fan, apparently.” Which made sense she supposed - muggle born and all.
And now, the creatures had been released. Mouse was incredibly pleased to see bats flying above, and she watched them in fascination as she lowered herself carefully to the ground and adjusted her skirt to spread around her in a proper manner. She wished she had a way of getting a sky puppy to come to her, but she was doubtful that was an option, so instead her eyes drifted back to the earth as she took in the others slowly joining them. It was always fascinating to her to see the combinations of both magical and mundane a like, though she personally had no preference between the two. She watched as the demiguise moved about, a raccoon soon to harass a small Gryffindor for food, and didn’t at all notice the little gray ball that was sniffing curiously at her feet. It was only when whiskers tickled her skin that she glanced down, and had to repress a small laugh. “You sensed your kin, is it?” She softly spoke, lowering her hand down to rest on the grass - palm up - in case the little mouse wanted to climb into her hand.
Vera was still certain that she would have been disappointed if it had been HER, but then again Professor Paton had piqued her interest with the ‘what red pandas represent’ comment. Which she was disappointed there had been no immediate follow up! Blinking at her, the Gryffindor’s head tilted a bit to the side. “What DOES the red panda represent?” Don’t leave a girl hanging, Professor P! Though the promise of showing them her animagus form at some point had the woman entirely forgiven as Ve bounced excitedly in her seat.
WAIT. It was creature time!! The multiple times said reminder of some of the creatures being shy rang very loudly in her ears and she was trying really reaaaaally hard to curb her enthusiasm, but she was a naturally energetic soul and her instinct was to run around and try to pet as many of the critters as possible. But… that would be counter productive to her goal so instead she… forced herself to just sit. Eyes going WIDE as she took in Professor Paton’s snake, before her attention was then taken by an approaching trash panda raccoon, clearly interested in the crumbs scattered in her lap. “Hi, little guy.” She said softly as it’s came a liiiitle bit closer. She wished she had her own snack plate now so she could entice him with even more food.
She was so distracted now majority of what Logan had said had gone over her head, though she did hear about the animagus and knew it was supposed to be hard, but was surprised that was even a consideration for him. Where was that can do Gryffindor spirit? The bit about her patronus however DID get her attention, and eyes shifted over to look at him. “I still think it’ll be a basilisk. But a skunk or a slug don’t bother me that much I guess.” Did he not know she liked both of those?? Though she would absolutely still be continuing to manifest a reptile. “I think yours will be an aardvark.” She had no reasoning for this, she just did.
