Common Room Welcome to the Slytherin Common Room! // graphics by the lovely hermionesclone // |
~ ☆ open post ☆ ~ Edric fell into a squishy, overstuffed chair near a window, his lanky legs stretched out in front of him. He started flipping through a random magazine, sighing as he pawed past potion after potion. It figured this would be the reading material their Head of House would provide. |
In the middle of the night, a soft scratching can be heard. Almost like an animal trying to sharpen its nails against the hard stone of the wall. But how can that be? The common room is completely empty, yet every few moments the sound echoes through the space, even being so loud as to reach the dorms a few times. What on Earth could be the origin of this mysterious sound? Scraaaatch, scraaaaatch, scraaaatch.... |
Aria heard it all right. In her sleep, that is. And because of that, the scratching sound became part of her dream that she was having where a crup was scratching on the mannequin that held her latest clothing design. Aria was screaming at it to stop lest the fabric got damaged. In the end, she awoke with a start. Sitting up groggily in her bed, it took her a moment to fully comprehend that the scratching was actually REAL. "What in the world...?" Throwing back the covers, the fifth grabbed her wand before cautiously exiting her dorm. Pausing to listen at the staircase, she determined that sound was coming form the common room. "Lumos." She needed the light to descend the stairs. And to investigate. Once at the base of the stairs, she peered around in an attempt to locate the source of the sound. |

Did someone forget to wake him before bedtime? And now someone was shining their wand right in his eyes. "Watch where you're pointing that thing!", he exclaimed shielding his eyes. Worst. Wake. Up. Call. Ever. |
Violet, awakened out of a sound sleep (a rarity lately, since her nerves were on edge anticipating N.E.W.T.s and, just maybe, her social life), jumped out of bed grasping her wand as she rose and, forgetting that she was just wearing a flannel nightgown and orange fuzzy socks, ran out of her dorm and plunged down the stairs, not even noticing that Aria was standing at the top or that there was wandlight already shining down the staircase. "Rats, it has to be rats," Violet muttered under her breath, and hoped that it was, considering all the other strange things that it might be at a place like Hogwarts. But all she saw in the Common Room was a fourth year boy, Alfred, on the couch. Violet came to a halt about midway down the staircase and looked rapidly from side to side, trying to find the source of the noise. "Lumos!" she cast her own charm and began to direct her wandlight into the far corners of the room. |
Watch where she was pointing her wand? “Shhhh!’’ Aria hissed at rude boy Alfred. “You should have been asleep in your dorm!” Looking up at the staircase, she recognised Violet there. Aria put aside her dislike for the older girl and alternated her glance between her and Alfred. “Did either of you hear that sound just now? A sort of scratching? Scraping?’’ Certainly she hadn’t been dreaming? The fifth year stood rather still, straining her ears to catch even a hint of the sound once more. Could it been one of their fellow Slytherin’s cat? Or a rat? |

Clearly Aria had not been dreaming then. Not unless she and Violet had had the same sort of scratching noises in their dreams. The fifth year moved away from the tiny group, training her wand here and there, peering behind chairs, under tables and so forth for some sort of clue as to what caused the said noise. Whatever it was, she didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Moving closer back to the group, Aria rolled her eyes. “I wouldn’t know about huge rats.” Her dislike for Violet was back with full force. “It could have been a cat or something. Or a regular sized rat having a fun time.” She scrubbed at her eyes with her free hand. If there wasn’t anything worth her further time and attention, she’d be going back to bed. A girl needed her beauty sleep! |
Violet snorted inwardly at Aria's high-handed reaction to her mention of rats. Obviously the younger girl experience had not been as broad as Violet's (who felt that her adventure of less than a year in New York made her quite wordly-wise). Well, Violet did not believe in ignoring the seamier side of life--it expanded one's experience, and prepared one for unexpected emergencies...like being locked in a dungeon by deranged fanatics, for instance. "Probably," she said in response. "I think I'll just pop down there and look around the Common Room, just in case." After all that had been going on at Hogwarts over the past few years, Violet was not taking any chances. Besides, it would give that boy, Alfred, a chance to explain why he was sleeping down in the Common Room. If he cared to, that is. |
just saw this, hope I can reply!!! Edric sat up with a snort when the pillow hit him square in the gut. "Oof." Had he been snoring? Is that what this was? He didn't hear the scratching sound; he must have actually properly fallen asleep reading. First time that had happened, heh. He mussed his hair up, scratching his skull, and stood up, the sleepytime magazine sliding to the floor with a shiny splash. "What are you all doing down here at a time like this anyway?" he inquired with a stretch, looking around curiously at the girls. Whatever time it was anyway. Was one girl investigating under the tables...? "Did you lose something?" An earring or something? "There's probably a spell that'll help you find it faster..." And look less ridiculous looking for it. Not that he was offering to help... he was no Hufflepuff, oi. Ed gave a big yawn and picked up the magazine, tossing it lightly on the table next to him. "Right, good night all." He started ambling toward the dorm rooms. |
Okay, clearly Edric hadn’t heard anything. What a sound sleeper he was because Aria had been all the way up in her dorms… she shook her head. This wasn’t about who could sleep through multiple alarms or anything like that. “You really didn’t hear that loud scratching?” the fifth year asked. Her head tilted on one side as though listening to something. All that could be heard was a lot of nothing; at least nothing related to the scratching. She watched Edric toss the magazine onto the table and start away without really seeing him. Yes, her focus on listening was THAT intense. Violet could be… dreary. Maybe that’s why Aria didn’t want Caes to date her. “Go right ahead,’’ the younger girl responded and yawned quite loudly. “Some of us appreciate our beauty sleep a lot more.” She started to head for the staircase after deciding that the sound wasn't going to be made again, wand held aloof to light the way. “G’night, Edric. Alfred.” |
After having checked in the last dark corner, Violet had to admit that there was nothing in the Common Room. Nothing visible, that is. Just as she was finishing, she heard Aria, still apparently on the staircase, bidding the others goodnight. Violet did not fail to notice that the younger girl had pointedly excluded her from the general farewell. At first Aria's coldness had been amusing, but Violet was becoming more than frustrated with this behavior. She had wracked her brains trying to remember what she might have done to offend the other girl and had come up with nothing. Sure, she and Aria had never been particular friends, but Violet could come up with no valid reason for the other girl to be so snippy to her and she was fed up with such childishness. She was beginning to look forward to the day when she would not have to be living with a bunch of...of children! Shrugging her shoulders, Violet finally decided to head back to bed. She paused as she walked back through the Commons and spoke seriously to Alfred and Edric. "Um, maybe it's not such a good idea for you two to be staying down here all alone--tonight, at any rate." Then she went on to the staircase and mumbled a sleepy "Goodnight" to them as she headed back to her dorm. |
