Simon Violet gave the owl a final pat, and slipped him a bit of oatmeal cookies that she found at the bottom of her pocket. "Bye, owl, stay safe. Thank you for talking with me." She wondered if the effects of the potion would linger after their experiment, and what the owl would make of that. Next, she went up to the cages of kneazles--puffskeins were just too cute, and....pink! She looked at them for a few minutes, then picked out the dignified, sensible-looking one--Simon, the label said his name was. She carried him back to the table as he eyed her with caution, though not alarm, and opened the cage to let him step out, if he wished. She reached toward him hesitantly, holding out her hand first in case he wanted to sniff it. "Good afternoon, Simon. Okay if I pet you just a bit? Just for a stray hair or two for my potion?" |
Delaney reluctantly locked Ignatius back in the cage he arrived in as the lesson continued. She was sad to say goodbye to her furry companion but her attention was quickly redirected to the new creatures revealed at the back of the room. Ooooooo… puffskeins or kneazles….which will the Slytherin choose… After quick deliberation Delaney picked out Penelope the Puffskein and brought her over to her work station. “Hello Penelope. I’m Delaney. You and me need to be on the same page got it?” Delaney said eyeballing the fluffy creature attempting to be friendly, “So here’s the deal, you get some treats, I’ll give you some pets, we chat and become good friends ya? She grabbed a handful of Puffskein treats and waved one in front of Penelope to try and get her attention. |
Text Cut: Ashley Full of himself? How dare she insinuate such a thing. Simon was simply confident. What was wrong with that? He swished his tail majestically as the girl pet him, still yammering on about something regarding fluffiness. Humans. Perpetually talking too much. Once she ingested the potion, if she listened carefully, she may hear a subtle thought. "Well, I shall beg of you the same question. Do you think you know everything?" Text Cut: Bernie Phil really didn't need a feather or a string, as he had become increasingly preoccupied with an invisible speck on the workstation. No, to the human eye, there was nothing there. But Phil certainly saw something. He pawed at it intently. Then, he turned to the girl and started pawing nonchalantly at her hair. Hair was fun. "There is indeed. A very complex one to brew, if that. With some incredibly rare ingredients." Much beyond the scope of what she was allowed to teach at Hogwarts. Shreya had never ingested one herself, but she heard that it came with some particularly nasty side effects. Text Cut: Violet Simon stepped out of the cage with a flourish, not even bothering to sniff the girl's hand. He was troubled at the fact that they kept putting him back in that ridiculous cage. Kneazles were meant to roam. He considered the girl's question for a moment before offering her a subtle purr. Yes, he would indeed accept some pets. At least she was polite about it. |

"That's suuuch a good boy," she said gently, taking him back to her table and sitting on her chair. She faced away from Grace the owl because she didn't want to frighten poor Basil. She continued cradling him like the PRECIOUS BABY THAT HE WAS. "I can't wait to see what you're thinking, little guy," she coooooed, and soon she was adding the fur that had come off on her gloves into the potion. She then waited patiently for the bubbles to finish doing their little thang. |

Claudine was concerned at first upon hearing the hum. But a quick survey of her chosen puffskein told her that the creature was okay. At least to the best of her knowledge Lilly was. And this was further backed up by the face that she could quite clearly hear the little creature’s thoughts. Colour Claudine super excited once more! [/i]Oh my.[/i] Lilly was quite the chatterbox! Not that the Slytherin minded. She was most likely to spend her time talking to animals than to humans. “Hi, Lilly. I’m Claudine. No nicknames… just Claudine.” Her own hair? The Snakette absentmindedly reached up to touch the strands with her free hand. She took good care of it usually but not as obsessively as some girls her age. “Thanks. I try to keep it tame,’’ she joked. Claudine giggled as she watched Lilly roll about. “You’re so energetic!’’ Did the puffskein know this? “Yes, please. Tell me all about it. Pink hair suits you very much.” |
"What?" Nem said, finishing a bullet point about different human languages, and the required extra translation element in terms of trying the potion in such a context, before looking up at Grantham again. Conjure a-... Merlin alive. Drawing their wand - ever the helpful friend - Nem turned towards the back workstation, scanned it for a moment, then flicked their wand at it. "Accio." A cat toy, little fake mouse (with a feather for a tail, because naturally) on a string, flew over, and Nem caught it. They gave the fake mouse a little sniff, then handed the toy over to Grantham. "Try that. I think there might be catnip in it." And that creature seemed like it might need all the stimulation it could get. Right there with you, Phil. After adding just a couple more things to their notes, Nem reshuffled the parchment and turned their attention to the kneazle instead. "Please tell me you're not thinking of becoming an animagus," they remarked, flicking their eyes briefly towards Grantham, then back again. Her statement had definitely been directed at Varma, but Nem would be remiss if they did not jump in. |
Text Cut: Atlas Pancake was very glad that the boy was carrying him around. Any excuse to not expound any extra energy was well received by the puffskein. He sniffed each option before shrugging slightly. "One of each." He yawned. While he could technically grab the treats himself, he had a better idea. Without warning, he quickly flicked his tongue up (the fastest he had moved in a week, in fact) to the boy's nostril. A boogey appetizer would be nice indeed. Text Cut: Delaney Wheeeee!!!!! A HUMAN!!!!!! This was the most fun she had had ALL DAY! Penelope bounced up and down happily as the girl carried her to the workstation. Once she was placed down, she started rolling in circles, stopping only to stick out her tongue and grab the treat. Then it was back to rolling. She just couldn't help herself! Treats, pets, and time inside the castle!!!!! This was the BEST!!!!! DAY!!!!! EVER!!!!! Text Cut: Aboli Alright, this lady wasn't so bad. She was kind of.....nice, actually. But why was everyone else in the room being soooo loud?? Basil peeked his eye out again, and if the girl listened closely, she might hear a very slight humming sound. Progress! Text Cut: Claudine "Oh, well it's nice to meet you Claudine," Lilly replied with a happy giggle. She rolled up the girl's arm and around her neck as she talked about her hair before perching herself on the table once more. Yay, they could talk about hair some more! "Thanks! Well, my mommy is all pink. She's one of those tiny puffskeins. You know, the ones that are pretty colors?" Lilly forgot what they were called. Pixie puffs maybe? "So my sisters and I all have a little bit of pink fur, too!" She looked up at the girl with big, blue eyes, rimmed with long lashes. "What's your favorite color, Claudine?" |

Delaney found herself shimmying in her seat hummed to herself and the puffskein as she started handing out one treat after another until she only had one left, "Alright Penelope, last treat okay? And then I'm going to pet out ALLL over, got it?" The first year handed over the last treat before reaching in and gently petting the puffskein. Her other hand joined soon after and she was attempting to bet Penelope all over just as she promised. Treats and pets. The brunette figured she must have enough of the animal's essence by now and dropped a few strands of fur into her remaining potion. As the bubbling died down , Delaney tipped her head back and downed it in two big gulps. "Okay Penelope...speak to me. I'm all ears!" |
"You're the best and smartest and prettiest kneazle I've ever met," Phoebe gave Mirabelle all the scritch-scratches she could, and it brought her JOY when the kneazle leaned into her touch. The look on her face. Those eyes. Merlin, could Phoebe KEEP HER? "You're the best kneazle." There were a few strands on her uniform skirt, and Phoebe dropped them into her potion before returning to her kneazle friend. "More treats, Miss Pretty?" |
I'm bad at following directions sometimes irl so hope this worked lol SPOILER!!: This That These Those :butshy: Phil liked her hair? PHIL LIKED HER HAIR!!!! Bernie snuggled her face into Phil's fur again, giving him a big sniff, but also trying to keep her hair out of his paws. Ewwhooohoohoo. Big boi was also a stinky boi. She should... drink the potion or whatever she was supposed to do... She turned as Nem threw the mouse to her, catching it with glee, and turning back to the kitty. "Here you go buddy!!" Hoping Phil liked it!!! She had some cat hairs on her robes now and, curiously, was not sneezing. Huh. Huh. All her life she'd been told she was allergic to cats.... she'd be thinking on that later... Regardless, her potion was ready now, so she quickly uncapped it and chugged it in one gulp. Now she just had to stare at... Phil? Bernie started doing that to hear the kneazle's thoughts. Maybe it loved the mouse toy! Maybe it did not! Oh, N e m e s i s. "Okay," she smirked to herself, eyes still on the kneazle. "I'm not thinking of becoming an animagus," she dutifully replied. "I'm just," her gaze briefly left the kneazle, so she could nod at the professor, "curious about those who have done. Those Transfiguration masters, you know?" Just a thought she'd been working with. Annnd back to staring at Phil. Catnip mouse for your thoughts, buddy? |
Quote:
He smiled as Basil came a bit closer. "Yeah, see? Nothing bad. Just tasty treats. Is it alright if I..?" He didn't finish the question, but cautiously held out his hand and pet the little one lightly, hopefully comfortingly. |
SPOILER!!: Thou Nem liked cats and kneazles as much as the next emotional void, but Grantham was something else (that was becoming a running theme). What was it about the Felidae family in particular that just had people leaving any and all dignity at the door? Leaning on the desk and propping their head in their hand, Nem settled in to see how this was going to go. They wouldn't be in on any of those thoughts, but were vaguely interested in watching the faces of both human and kneazle, to see if they could pinpoint the moment the potion worked, or if they could tell that it hadn't. First though, Nem snorted. Transfiguration masters, sure. "Jake's an animagus." Whether this influenced Nem's disregard for their father, or that disregard influenced their dislike of animagi, that was a phoenix-or-the-egg type riddle. They, however, were of the opinion both existed entirely independent of the other. Point was, that guy was a master of absolutely nothing. Nem had a mind to tell Grantham more of their thoughts on the subject of animagi, but the whole kneazle situation was not only more immediate, but more interesting. Observations recommenced. |

Gasp! Kiz gave the kneazle a look of ultimate disappointment when she hopped onto the table. No matter! This would not stop Kinsay from picking her up once again and snuggling her intensely. Kneazle hugs were the cure for sads, right? Cause Kinsay had a lot of those lately, so she'd need lots of kneazle hugs. It was the rules. She made them up just now. Hi, kneazle. You're the cutest. |
Catch-up + Lilly the puffskein *cramming a lot into 1 post because time crunch* SPOILER!!: Mini activity catchup Heath wanted to continue his conversation with Rey, but the professor was moving on to something else. He gently lifted Rey to put her back in her cage, but as soon as he did, she dug her claws into his sweater. The potion hadn’t quite worn off yet, and he could still hear Rey’s thoughts begging him not to put her back in there. I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, my baby Jedi cat, he thought sadly. And not just sorry for putting her in the cage. He was sorry he brought her here. If he had any idea what would happen this term, he would’ve left her at home. Maybe bonding with another creature would help him feel better… he hoped! He left his seat to peruse the creatures at the back of the room, and he was immediately drawn to the puffskeins. Kneazles were similar enough to cats that Rey might get jealous if she saw him bond with one of them, and the puffskeins reminded him of Holdo, the little purple pygmy puff he had to leave at home. One in particular caught his eye, the one with the pink streaks. Those streaks reminded him of another pygmy puff he used to have! “Hello, pretty puffie,” he greeted quietly. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Heath. Want to be friends?” He kept talking to the puffskein as he wet his hands, hoping to give her time to get accustomed to his presence before he opened the cage door. “I’m going to take you out of your cage, okay?” he said. “Don’t worry, you’ll be safe with me.” Only then did he venture to pick her up and gently stroke her fur. “I like your hair,” he said as he continued petting her. “It reminds me of someone I used to know.” When he looked at his fingers, there were pink hairs stuck to them. He added them to one of the vials and drank it up. As he waited for it to take effect, he resumed petting the pretty pink-streaked puffskein. Did that do anything? |
Text Cut: Ashley "Perhaps I'm just prompting you to thiiiiink," Simon replied in a lofty tone, drawing out the syllables in the last word for emphasis. "An unforgivable curse, hmm? I would be quite distressed upon anyone being hit with such a spell." He paused to lick a ruffled patch of fur on his forearm....or forepaw? "I find many people your age to be quite.....frivolous on the surface. Though if you dig a little deeper, you may find that you have more allies than you think." Text Cut: Phoebe Mirabelle purred in delight. Such a lovely young lady. She watched intently as the girl placed the specimen into the vial, and then mewed happily at the question about more treats. If Phoebe was able to hear her thoughts yet, she might hear a soothing, kind voice. "Why thank you, sugar. Your mama or papa must have raised you well." Text Cut: Bernie & Nem It was as if Phil didn't even see the mouse. He was too preoccupied with the invisible speck on the table. That is, until he heard the Slytherin speak. The kneazle looked at them, cocking his head ever so slightly. Jake. That was a fun word. He wanted to say it a bunch of times. Moseying over to Nem, Phil butted his head against their hand. The girl would soon hear a repetitive, "Jake. Jakey Jake Jake Jakers. Jake. Jakey Bakey Snakey. Jakery. Jakeeeee." Text Cut: Kinsay Sasha simply stared back at the girl's look of disappointment, blinking prettily a few times. Surely the girl would understand. Looks were important after all. Not to mention she was trying to get the attention of Simon. Ahh, Simon. The most handsome and smart kneazle. But he hadn't paid her one measly purr or glance all day long. When the girl picked her up again, Sasha simply huffed into Kinsay's robes (if there was such thing a kneazle huff), resorting herself to the fact that this was her life now. At least the girl's shirt smelled better than the rest of the room. OOC: You have about 24 hours left to complete the main activity! |
Text Cut: Delaney More treats!!! And pets!!! Hooray!!! Penelope scooped up the treat (yum....bogey-flavored!) before continuing her bouncing. This was funnnnn!!! She watched eagerly as the girl drank the potion, rolling up her arm, around her neck, and perching herself on top of the girl's head. "HI! I'm Penelope! Some people call me Penny, but I like Penelope better, because I think it sounds more sophisticated, dontcha think? Hmm?" She bounced off Delaney's head and rolled in a circle around the workstation. "It's fun to be in the castle. I haven't been outside of the creature barn in AGESSSS! Are you stuck in the castle too? Are ya?" Quote:
Text Cut: Heath Oooooh, another human! And this one was so handsome! Lilly hummed happily as she got some more attention. It certainly was nice to get so much love after being stuck in the barns all this time. She watched curiously as the boy drank the potion. He'd hear a giggly, breathy, high-pitched voice in response. "Thanks. I like my pink fur, too. Did you use to know a pink puffskein? Maybe it was my mama." She rolled around the boy's feet. She liked this one. So gentle and nice! "You would look handsome with pink streaks in your hair, too." Lilly giggled. "Or maybe blue! What's your favorite color?" |

I love/hate this so much LMAO SPOILER!!: Jake's Spawn & Jake from State Farm If only Nem had seen Bernie as an incoming first year getting so excited and obsessed with the cat at Ollivander's wand shop that she nearly forgot her wand there... that she was there in the first place to purchase.... well.... actually, vanish that comment: Nem probably wouldn't have been surprised by this behavior at all. "Jake?" Bernie wondered aloud even as the word suddenly ran on repeat in her brain. It was like a playlist but exclusively for the name Jake. Jake. Jakey Jake Jake Jakers. Jake. Jakey Bakey Snakey. Jakery. Jake--- Bakey? Huh? Bernie was staring, open-mouthed, between her Slytherin friend and the kneazle before them. She almost asked can you hear that but shook herself as she recalled ~the potion~. Right. These were all potions effects. Hearing cats thoughts was NOT just the new normal.... etc etc etc. "So, uh, Phil may want to meet Jake Upstead more than I do; the kneazle is ONLY thinking about your dad right now," Bernie pointed out lightly. Although this comment made her also feel a little bit deflated as she suddenly remembered the whole situation of this school year and that neither she nor Phil would probably be meeting the Auror soon. (And to think, she'd been adequately distracted this entire lesson enough to momentarily forget the Neo-Alliance and all). What a shame. |

Kinsay was perfectly happy standing here and cuddling the fluffy kneazle all day, but she had enough sense to know that they were meant to be doing an activity. So after a few more squishes and a lil' nuzzle, Kizzy collected some of the kneazles fur and dropped into into her potion for sipping. "Hi," was it working? "I wish I was a kneazle. Life would be way less complicated." For a million and seventeen reasons. |
Quote:
The Snakette bobbed her head. Yes, she definitely knew about those pretty colour puffskeins, or pygmy puffs. Thoughts of puffs brought back the fond memory of hers and Heath’s first date in Diagon Alley when they had bonded with Pygmy Puffs at the joke shop. “Pygmy puffs!’’ Claudine said enthusiastically, and perhaps a little too loudly. “Sorry.’’ A quick glance around was done to make sure that she hadn’t disturned anyone, and she hoped she hadn’t startled Lilly. “Oh, wow. You lot are definitely a pretty looking bunch.’’ Claudine grinned. “Did you inherit your bounciness and cheerfulness from your mommy too?” Oh, her favourite colour? “I don’t have one particular one. I love a range of them. Pink, red, blue, apple green, aquamarine… I’m an artist,’’ came her added comment to explain why she didn’t stick to one colour as a favourite. |
Talking to Simon Quote:
Looking down at her hand, Violet saw she had a number of kneazle hairs on it, so she stopped the petting and carefully added one to her next potion vial and watched it bubble furiously. "Pretty cool, huh?" she said, holding the vial so Simon could see it. "Don't worry, you don't have to drink this; it's for me. And if I've done it properly, I'll be able to talk with you in a minute." Looking down, Violet saw the bubbles had settled down, so she took the vial and downed it in a single gulp, coughing a bit at the end. She held up her forearm to block her mouth as her eyes watered slightly, but she soon recovered. Then she looked back at Simon the Kneazle. "Well, that should do it. Um, we should be able to understand each other--can you hear what I'm saying? Are you all right? Have those people been hurting you kneazles?" She looked into the kneazle's eyes and waited hopefully for a response. |
Aboli was so focused on her own puffskein that much of what was going on in the potions lab just...kind of passed her by. She didn't notice anything going on around her. Basil really seemed to be settling down, and Aboli was glad. By the time the potion was done, she could feel his humming, not really hear it. There was much too much hustle and bustle in the lab right now; it wasn't loud, but there was a lot of movement, which would make any soft noise hard to hear. Was the humming a good thing, like a cat's pur? Aboli hoped so! She slowly grabbed the vial and downed her potion. NOW BASIL. GIVE US ALL THE THOUGHTS, LITTLE GUY! She continued stroking him in the meantime. |
Text Cut: mini activity catch up Thankfully the sleepy owl wasn't the end of the lesson. The cages under the blankets were finally revealed, and there were a few kneazles and puffskeins under there. Awww! They were all so cute! And hopefully more friendly and talkative than the owl she'd gotten. While the first round of students got their chance to spend time with them, Ivy dried her hand and got up to gather some treats and toys and brought them back to her workstation. A little bit of each kind, for some variety. Sure, some things might be more suited for a kneazle or a puffskein, but...well, who said they couldn't try new things? Besides, she wasn't sure which one she wanted yet. Until she saw that one of the puffskeins was named PENELOPE. Okay, she had to bond with that one. HAD TO. Once the puffskein was free, she scooped her up, grinning. "Hi, Penelope! I'm Ivy, and I wanna be your friend. You've got the same name as my mum, which is pretty cool." She brought her back to her workstation and set the cute little puffskein down. "I've got a bunch of fun stuff here for you too! And lots of treats!" Ivy picked up one of the puffskein treats and held it out for her to take, if she wanted it. |
Phoebe tried to continue petting Mirabelle while she sipped the potion and almost ended up spilling it all down her front, but she somehow managed the juggling act. There now. Potion down the hatch, and now she could scoop up the kneazle and cuddle her properly until the potion took hold. "Do they take good care of you? I mean, you are very pretty and fluffy and smell so nice, but are you having a nice term? I am not, if you want to know. It's my OWL term, you see?" She actually was having a bad term on account of all this awful Goon Squad stuff, but it seemed like a terrible idea to mention that out loud. "Studying. It's awful. Are you a momma kneazle? Do you have a family?" |
brb wheezin SPOILER!!: PhilBern This kneazle was broken. Had to be. Moseying all the way over here like that. Still, helped them out on the old reputation front, maybe. Taking their cue, they scratched Phil behind the ears, and then under the chin. "You're kidding." Merlin alive, that would teach Nem to throw his name about like that. Or... no, it probably wouldn't. "You're both touched." Inspiration chose that moment to hit Nem, and they glanced from the kneazle, to Grantham, and back again. If the creature could understand and repeat words, surely music was within its capabilities as well - though who knew with this particular specimen. Couldn't hurt to try, even if it did mean momentarily relaxing their total ban on music and melody. Still scritching the kneazle's head, Nem leaned in a little closer and softly hummed what they knew of It's a Small World. Risky? Who cared. Even if Rent-a-Snitch were even here, what was the likelihood they knew the song? It was from back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and Walter Weasley was entering his thirties or so. Besides, it would be worth it to get an earworm stuck in Grantham's head, even if the kneazle butchered it a little bit first. |
Text Cut: Ashley "Perhaps. Common ground may be more common than you may originally perceive it to be...." Simon responded, trailing off a bit in thought. Though that was nothing unusual for the kneazle. He was perpetually whisked away by his own ideas. Text Cut: Bernie & Nem Phil was still yammering on about Jake the Jakety-Snakety-Bakety-Cakety until the Slytherin started petting him. He cocked his head slightly at that, staring blankly at them in return. He meowed once—out loud, a long, drawn out one— in return. Then, it was back to the invisible speck (quite interesting, apparently), whilst singing his new song in his head—in a chorus of meows, of course. The problem was, he could only remember one line. So it was the same one, over and over again. Broken record, anyone? Text Cut: Kinsay "Hey," Sasha responded coolly, shaking her fur out a bit to recover from all the squishes. She relaxed on the workstation, splaying out her limbs to stretch. "Oh believe me, hon, life as a kneazle is still very complicated." Maybe not exactly trapped in a castle by a terrifying Muggle-hating cult complicated. But her life was certainly still complicated. At that, she sent another glance over toward Simon. Text Cut: Violet Simon was very pleased that this girl was showing him everything he was doing. Satisfying a cat's curiosity was one of the best ways to win them over. His tail swished as he watched her drink the liquid. "I'm quite acceptable. Just rather bored lately. The barn in the wintertime doesn't exactly exercise the brain...." he trailed off thoughtfully, in usual Simon fashion. Text Cut: Phoebe Oh, how lovely. The girl was worried about the kneazles having a nice term! Mirabelle was positively tickled by this development. She loved polite children. "Yes, dearie. William is a wonderful caretaker." Though he did not smell the best. Perhaps he needed to roll around in the hyacinths like the female kneazles did to smell nice. "I'm sure you will do a wonderful job on them. You seem very smart. Just always make sure to study hard! That's how you'll go far in life." Mirabelle purred a bit, nudging the girl's hand in encouragement. "I am indeed. I've got four babies of my own. But I consider all the kneazles my babies, really. We have to look out for each other." The kneazle winked at Phoebe at that. Another wise piece of life advice she should remember. |
Text Cut: Quinn "I.....I......think....so," Basil whispered back hesitantly. The boy would be able to hear his thoughts, but they came in choppy fragments, as if Basil were stuttering. "There's a lot...going...on....in here. W-w-w-here are w-w-we?" Text Cut: Claudine "Pygmy puffs, you're right!" Lilly giggled, finally rolling off the girl's arm and resting on the workstation again. "Maybe! My mom likes to dance around and sing. I think I got that from her." This girl was so nice and friendly. Lilly liked her very much. "Oooo, so many pretty colors! I ask everyone I meet what their favorite color is. It's a good way to learn about them. What's your favorite kind of art do? My brother is an artist. He makes bogey art. But I told him that's gross." Text Cut: Aboli Basil's shaking continued to calm down, until he was almost still, save for a little jump here or there at any sudden noise in the room. Once the girl drank the potion, she'd hear a soft, hesitant response. "H-h-h-h-i. My name is.....Basil." That was all she'd be getting for now, as Basil shrunk back into himself, just in case the girl didn't like what he had said. Text Cut: Ivy ANOTHER ONE! HOORAY!!!! Penelope continued jumping up and down. Was she tired yet? Noooope! All these treats and talking had positively exhilarated her! She eagerly took the treat from the girl, chomping on it excitedly. Then, she turned to one of the toys (a little fish on a string, probably meant more for a kneazle, but hey, it looked fun) and started nudging it! Playtime! Playtime! Playtime! |
thx, you two, now my phone will know for sure that I speak cat SPOILER!!: philomath Bernie let out a tiny laugh at that; she simply couldn't help it. But it was hard to carry on two conversations at once, with the second conversation being just between her and Phil's simple thoughts. She almost missed the whispering in the kneazle's ear because she couldn't hear it over the chorus of JAKE JAKE JAKES. Then there was the meow and the new chorus OF MEOWS?? MEW MEOW MEOWwW mew MEOW, mew mew MEOW MEOW MEOW. Translation: It's a world of hopes and a world of fears. Just the one line, actually. Over and over and over again. Bernie hummed it under her breath, trying to recall where it was from, from somewhere Muggle, she was sure. She didn't know Nem knew Muggle things though? She pulled a face in their direction. "So I'm touched in the head, but you've been singing to kneazles?" Was this a regular thing of theirs? Because Bernie knew about the horsies in the barn liking songs but.... well, maybe the kneazles eavesdropped on them too. Cats and horses got along, she knew this from books. |
Quote:
"My name's Quinn." He thought a formal introduction was necessary. But... what to talk about with a puffskein? "So... what's it like living out in the barn..?" |
Quote:
"GAAAAAAAAH!" He had NOT been expecting that. Though perhaps he should have seeing as he knew perfectly well what it was that puffskeins liked to nom on now and then. Eyes watering, Atlas did the unthinkable...and DROPPED his puffskein. On accident, mind you. But still dropped him. |

SPOILER!!: Lovely little Lilly Awww! That hum… Heath had heard that puffskein hum many times before. It was the same sound Holdo (and the other pet pygmy puff he had before that) made when he was happy. It was a sound he could never get tired of, no matter how many times he heard it. He couldn’t resist humming quietly along with Lilly, and suddenly an idea occurred to him. If the potion worked, maybe he could teach her to hum a song… or several. He could picture it now, a pretty pink-streaked puffskein humming showtunes. How adorable would that be? It wasn’t long until he heard a giggly little voice reply to him, and that voice made him giggle too. “I did,” he said, nodding. “She was my brother’s pet, but he gave her to me when he couldn’t take her to school with him.” His thoughts turned to Scarlet, the dark pink pygmy puff he once had, and he wondered if it was possible that she could’ve been Lilly’s mother. Probably not… Fiyero got Scarlet before Heath was born, so if Lilly’s mum was the same pygmy puff, that would mean Lilly herself would have to be at least seventeen years old. Still, he was curious. “What was your mum’s name? Was she the only pink puffskein in your family?” It was unlikely that Scarlet had been Lilly’s mum, but she could’ve been her grandma or some other relative. Heath watched Lilly rolling around his feet, and that got him giggling again. Was it possible for someone to die from too much cuteness? The giggling intensified as he imagined himself with colored streaks in his hair, and he had to clap a hand to his mouth to stop himself from laughing out loud and disturbing the class. “Thank you,” he replied. “Maybe I will have colored streaks in my hair one day.” He was an actor after all, at least unless the Neo-Alliance quashed his ambitions for being too muggle. It was possible that he might someday take a role that rewired colored streaks in his hair. “I like midnight blue, about this shade.” He held up his blue Ravenclaw tie as an example. “What’s your favorite?” |
Text Cut: Quinn Maaaaaybe this wasn't so bad. At least this boy was calm. And talking nicely. Basil liked that very much. He peeked both of his eyes out from under his fur, both fully visible now. "Ohhhhhh. So you can.....h-h-h-ear me?" He blinked a few times. "I....like it okay. It's s-s-s-afe. And w-w-warm." At least for now, at least. Text Cut: Atlas Pancake didn't seem to mind that he had just been dropped to the ground. He simply let the momentum of the fall roll him away, still chewing away happily on his bogey snack. Once he stopped rolling, he fell asleep almost immediately, snoring all the while. Text Cut: Heath Ohhhh, he did meet a pink puffskein! "My mommy's name was Tulip. We're all named after flowers. My sister is Daisy, my brother is Cedar, and I'm Lilly." Maybe Heath had met his mommy before! Though that was probably unlikely. Hogwarts had been their home for a long time now. Either way, she blushed happily, loooving all this attention. "That color suits you! My favorite is piiiiiink, of course!" |
aaaand that's a wrap! Text Cut: Bernie Phil was tired from all this activity. This was more fun than he had had in weeks. Not to mention that the song (very catchy, by the way) was kind of lulling him to sleep. After a few more rounds, and a riveting finale consisting of some rather off-key meows, he rolled onto his back. With all four paws into the air, he dozed off. Text Cut: Ashley "I believe a wise man once said, 'The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.' I try to take that to heart." The humans would do well to dedicate more time to thinking. Shreya hated to break up this bonding session. The students were doing so well, and she was thrilled that so many of them had made progress in communicating with their animals. They had done much better than she had expected. Nevertheless, a glance at the clock showed that class was almost over. Most of the potions should be wearing off by now, anyway. "Wonderful job, everyone! For those of you that were able to hear your animal's thoughts, well done. For those of you that weren't, don't fret. It was a challenging undertaking. I want to thank you all for your efforts and cooperation." She smiled at the class, hoping none of them were discouraged. Some of these creatures were quite difficult to bond with. "Please place all of your animals back in their cages. The house elves will be taking them back to their......homes.......after the lesson." Not that wherever the owls were being held captive was a home, but Shreya couldn't find a better word. And she didn't want to make the students feel worse about parting with their pets. "I hope that today's lesson has illustrated the uses and the limitations of the animal whisperer potion. While it can certainly be a valuable way to communicate with a creature, it requires either a strong bond or a willing animal to work properly. You cannot expect to gain success using it on a completely wild creature. Therefore, it is imperative to pursue alternative methods to communicating with and understanding animals." Was she subtly encouraging them to stick with Care of Magical Creatures class? Perhaps she was. In her opinion, it was a valuable course of study. Shreya waved her wand toward the blackboard, where the assignment appeared. "Your homework is to brew another batch of the animal whisperer potion for Professor Williamson. You may make use of the Potions lab after your lessons if you wish. Class dismissed!" OOC: Thank you so much for coming to my first ever lesson! You all made it SO much fun! It's not required, but feel free to RP your charrie wrapping up and/or heading out. I'll be closing this thread in a couple of hours! |

Then she was laughing. “Bogey art does sound gross! Ewww.” Claudine really liked the sound of Lilly’s family. Varma was addressing them all again so the fifth year briefly turned her attention to the woman. WHAT? Class was done already? Noooo. She was sad but she held out her hands for Lilly to hitch a ride. “It really was so nice to get to know you, Lilly.” The puffskein was gently replaced in the cage. “See you around. I’ll come visit you in the barn.’’ Claudine went to copy the assignment and gather up her things. “Best lesson ever, Professor.’’ That was a huge compliment she had paid on her way out. |
I love Pancake. Can I keep him? Atlas' exclamation went from being about his invasion of the nose to the fact that the puffskein had hit the floor with a squish - so it was a very long yell that had some mountains and valleys in it. The moment of panic only intensified as the little creature rolled and then...just did not move. He had observed that this puffskein was particularly chill compared to the others but this right now looked like the thing had DIED and Atlas could NOT deal with seeing the death of yet another creature right before his eyes this term. Even if this one did not have a Killing Curse involved. So, for a brief moment, he was MAD at the creature for dying ... only that connection the potion had provided was still linked and, once the first year had stopped yelling, he could hear (feel? He still wasn't sure how to refer to this exactly) that the puffskein was just sleeping. A huge sigh of relief later and the Gryffindor was scooping the lump of fur off the ground and returning him to where he had plucked him from - since class had now been called. But, er, he also owed the puffskein one of everything since it had been requested SOOOOOO ... Loading up as much as he could carry in one hand and the puffskein in the other, Atlas NOW returned it and arranged all the food around it in a semi circle pile-o-food. "...sleep well..." Pretty stoked about the homework assignment, and it gave another excuse to go see Professor Williamson to talk strategy. "Um...professor? May I take Araneus back down to the barn?" Or did the house elves have to do that too...considering...The Hoods™ and all. |
