let it be known that ariana is a post stealer Consider the mouse. Nem had owned many mice in their time, usually caught from the fields near the family home in Godric's Hollow. Know what ate mice? Snakes. Know what also ate mice? Cats, including big cats like lions, also eagles, also badgers. Schmoe was the Hogwarts mouse. The rest was self-explanatory. Being an audience to this personification of the animal kingdom was the main reason Nem had stuck with Muggle Studies, that and a personal interest in antagonising the Grand Noodle. Point was, they didn't care about muggle tech. Or muggles. And yet the Technology Lounge was exactly where Nem had ended up - for reasons - while taking a break from a little casual studying. Right behind Noodle Mouse himself, what a coincidence. After catching up and waiting a beat, Nem suddenly clapped a hand on the professor's shoulder to oh-so-innocently get his attention. There was fortunately no longer any need to raise their voice to be heard over the |
and that's just the way the dice rolls :) This was a lot of information to process. Something Finneas’ big ol’ noodle brain was pretty OK at. Fortunately he had enough brain RAM to process all this at record speeds. Errrrr. Anyway, AnYwAy, ANYWAY. ”Fantastic!” There was nothing strange about doing math for your birthday… At least not to Finneas Reginald Schmoe (who arguably has the least authority on strange things). ”Happy Birthday, Ms. F—,” unfortunately (fortunately), Finneas was cut off by the appearance of one Nemsis Upstead who had just given him a good spook! There was something very unnerving about this particular student and it made Finneas positively skittish. Much like a small rodent creature…. Something hopefully no one else picked up on. Heh. Heh. Er. Now turning his attention to the Slytherin, Finneas attempted his MOST relaxed and uhhh not at all uncomfortable smile. ”Errr,” he laughed to cover up for discomfort as he took a few swift steps further into the technology lounge. ”Yes, quite right. Heh. Heh. Heh. Did you know it is Ms. Fox’s birthday today?” And that she was doing math? For FUN? In the muggle technology lounge of all places? Delightful, wasn't it ?! |
Ashley relaxed. Slightly. Because Schmoe was probably the type to do homework on his birthday. Hmmm. Saying you were doing muggle homework on your birthday was (probably?) less weird than painting your dreams, so she was glad she hadn't messed up and said she was doing that too. She nodded. "Today, I am twelve. Never thought I'd see the day." Literally. This was Hogwarts. Surviving, although quite common, was something to be proud of in her mind. And then, a new arrival. Who was it? Oh! It was Nemesis Upstead. She was glad she had remembered the name so as not to be caught off guard. She nodded at them. Had they been tailing Schmoe? Didn't seem the type to come down here, and Ashley didn't really know Nem(no way did they know her birthday), so she assumed there was some extra motive she didn't know. Possibly to scare Schmoe. If that was their motive, it looked like it worked. Nem was rather intimidating, did they know? She chose not to say so. If nobody knows that you are afraid, it's basically the same as being unafraid. Fake it til' you make it. Etc. She only looked slightly intimidated. It could only be seen if someone was looking for it. "Yes." She nodded and smiled. "It is my birthday today and I'm not in the hospital wing, surprisingly. And that's why I'm down here celebrating and generally doing normal people things." NOT. But she was a good liar, and it would have been hard to tell if not for the fact that A. there was no celebration, only a pile of papers on the floor, and B. she had clearly not been doing normal people things, as indicated by the papers on the floor. Dream paintings you say? Nightmare paintings? Math homework? Letters? If anyone was looking for a typical normal ordinary person, they were looking in the wrong place. "What are you down here for? I assume it isn't for my party that doesn't exist. It doesn't exist because I haven't made one. And I haven't made one because..." She broke off. Why hadn't she? Was it because she wondered if anyone would come? Was it because she thought she would have died by now? Was it because her muggle best friend was not there to celebrate? Why? "Because I just didn't." |
