Duelling Arena

When not being used for some of your Defense lessons, the duelling arena is available for those who want to get in a bit of extra training. There are several dummies available for you to have a go at, as well as a bookshelf to the far corner filled with resources should you decide to get in a bit of extra study.

No need to worry about breaking the dummies, they can withstand most things and have been charmed to repair themselves as needed. If you've got more serious spells to practice, use it on them and not your schoolmates. The Healer has a lot of work to do without dealing with injuries that could easily be avoided and reckless behaviour that leads to serious injury will be met with severe consequence, even if your partner was foolhardy enough to agree to it in the first place.

The only thing I ask is that you return the room to its previous state. The dummies will take care of themselves but any other messes I expect you to clean before you go.

To ensure some level of accountability, you will be required to tap your wand against the open page of the log book on the way in and then again on your way out. It will make the necessary notes on who used the room and when.

Note you won't be able to enter the room unless you tap your wand against the book by the door and I don't suggest trying to tinker with the charms. It might hurt a little more than you were expecting it to and all so you can avoid a little clean up? Nah. Not worth it, trust me.

FINALLY! She was getting somewhere.

Standing back from him, Ivy put her hands on her hips with an indignant expression. ”Okay, deal. You come with me to class and if nothings wrong, the Healer can send me to St. Mungo’s for having a mental breakdown,” she agreed. Ivy was so sure that they were going to see exactly what she saw that it didn’t even occur to her that she might come out on the worse end of this deal.

Turning around, she started making her way from the staff room back to the classroom she just left which she expected to still be full of students looking at the Headmaster like he had just grown a second head.

Okay, so, errr... They were really doing this then? Finneas spared a look over at his former professor. Suppose there were worse ways to spend the day. And.... Er... With that, he began following behind the young child who was evidently taking the lead. They deserved a salary increase. At least no more tears, yeah? The tears were things of nightmares. Something he evidently had in common with Williamson.

Who would have thought?!

Well it was a slow, ambling walk up here to the Defense Classroom, with Schmoe and Ivy. But they were here. The duelling area, where Williamson was pretty sure class was scheduled, was empty. But the door to the classroom was closed and Willy really didn't want to interrupt THE Headmaster's class in session.

So he settled himself on the stage in the room to catch his breath. "Well," he looked to Ivy expectantly, "I don't see any monsters. Do you?"

So he settled himself on the stage in the room to catch his breath. "Well," he looked to Ivy expectantly, "I don't see any monsters. Do you?"

When Ivy came to the classroom and saw the stage and dueling area empty, she felt her stomach clench all over again. She spun around in a circle trying to see any sign of her classmates, then ran to the closed classroom door and pressed her ear to it but she couldn’t hear anything. ”No, but Professor they were HERE.” She gestured desperately around the room. ”We came in and Headmaster Trent was on the stage reading some papers, and it was like he completely forgot about class because he didn’t have anything ready. When he noticed us he told us to just do whatever we wanted, and you know how he always has everything planned. Then he stopped us and started talking about the forest...”

Ivy stopped babbling and gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. What if he had already taken them to the forest?

Without explanation, she ran to a high window facing the grounds and started jumping trying to see out of it, but she was too short. Taking out her wand, she cleverly thought to use the charm they had just learned. ”Ascendio!” she said as she pointed her wand in the air. In her panic, she was a bit overzealous and ended up rising past the window, but as she did she saw what looked like red sparks over the trees in the forest.

Coming back down hard, she wobbled a little and turned back to the professors. ”Look! Looook!” she urged them as she pointed to the window. ”Someones sending up sparks in the forest!”

apologies for the delay <3

No monsters. Just as Finneas had expected though with this school you could never be too sure. If it were any other day and he were in any other mood, he would've approached this entire ordeal very differently. As it was, however, he was tired and students were dramatic. "Sometimes Professors have their off days too, Ms. Taylor."

Case and point, today seemed to be an off day for the lot of them.

He looked over at Williamson, in hopes that the Creatures professor would find a way to end the concern sooner rather than later. In doing so, he had completely missed the dramatic use of the 'ascendio' charm and simply heard the young Hufflepuff declare a discovery of red sparks coming from the forest? Errrr...?

Okay, this peaked his concern. Finneas Schmoe is now tuned in.

He quickly hurried his way over to the windows with concern, looking out towards the--"Ah. See, Ms. Taylor. Everything appears to be alright." Did she see the mass exodus of students leaving the forest? The Headmaster following along behind them? "Your headmaster looks to have it all under control."

Yeah, being unprepared for a lesson was hardly reason to be suspicious. Nor was taking the students outside? All of HIS lessons were outside, right near the edge of the forest. Did that make him a Dark wizard?

"Sparks or no," Williamson also missed the unnecessary ascendio charm there, as he was looking around the room for anything out of the ordinary, and then slowly standing up again, "I think your Defense class is about over. So you'll be needing to head to your next one, then, Miss Taylor." Or would she be needing to see the Healer for her obvious paranoia?

He exchanged a glance with Schmoe to see what he thought of this.

Ivy mouthed wordlessly, looking between the two men. How could they not see that something was terribly wrong? Tears filled her eyes yet again, but she didn’t start crying again. She wasn’t sad or scared now, just angry. With dramatic flair, she put her nose in the air and held out her wrists as though she expected to be handcuffed. ”Fine. Take me away to St. Mungo’s then. But you’ll see. I’m not crazy. You’ll be sorry you didn’t listen,” she said in a watery voice. Standing there resolutely, she waited to be carted away to the loony bin.

Finneas wasn't sure what to think anymore, but he was concerned. Who was feeding the first years this kind of silly propaganda?! He stuffed his hands into his pockets, going completely silent as she conceded and...... er. What was she doing? What was that with the wrists?

....................?

"Yes, well, er, as Professor Williamson just said," he looked back to his former professor. "Best get to class." Why was she standing like that? It was making him uncomfortable.

BanaBatGirl 11-08-2020 07:22 PM

Right, Williamson didn't have all day to faff about here with first years. He had a stack of essays he'd left in the staff room, not to mention that drink he really wanted to finish now. He sighed at the girl's antics.

"I think you will be the sorry one, Taylor, if you keep talking to your professors that way." He gave the first year a stern look and directed her to the door, leading the way himself in fact. "Back to class. You can ask your parents to book you a weekend at St. Mungo's if you feel you need it."

Was there a note of sarcasm in his tone there, or...? He glanced at Finneas and shook his head. The children this year were SO dramatic.
