Charms Lesson 1: Healing Spells Today's charms lesson takes place on a chilly Tuesday morning in December. Normally at this time of year, Professor Marchand would have his classroom decorated with paper snowflakes and festive cookies and hot cocoa for the students, but today, the walls and refreshment table at the back of the room are dull and empty, much like the professor's eyes. As you walk in, you'll find the desks arranged into four long rows. On top of each desk lies a dummy with realistic-looking cuts, some deeper than others, and broken bones. Perhaps they provide a clue to the lesson's subject? A gaunt, sad-looking Professor Marchand stands in his usual place at the front of the room dressed entirely in black, with the exception of his blazing red tie. A steady patter of freezing rain beats against the windows, and a quick glance outside will reveal a sky as dark as the professor's attire. Luckily, Professor Marchand has kept the room warm with plenty of heating charms. Behind Professor Marchand, the following message is written on the blackboard: Please DO NOT touch the dummies. Class will start shortly, so please take a seat anywhere and kindly keep the chatter to a minimum. OOC: Welcome to the first OOC lesson of this term! Please make sure you're up to date on Professor Marchand's rules as well as the school rules. Class will start Lesson Progression Question 1 Episkey & Ferula / Main Activity Question 2 Vulnera Sanentur & Mini Activity |
Daisy entered the classroom and when she saw Professor Marchand, all she could do was give him a slight nod and a smile in greeting, not daring to say a single word, due to the school rules. Her face fell at the sight of her favourite teacher's appearance as she made her way to the front table and stood behind it. She wasn't going to sit down until Professor Marchand gave his permission. |
Tad arrived for the Charms lesson a bit apprehensive on what to expect given everything that's happened lately. Why was the Professor looking so sad? He had to be going through a lot, Tad thought. "Hi Professor." He smiled and waved at him as he passed by. His parents always said a smile can brighten or uplift anyone's day. And he didn't want to be on anyone's bad side today. Oooh, dummies! Tad really wanted to touch them but the board said not to. He was glad that the room was nice and toasty so he didn't have to ask someone for a heating charm. So he went to one of the closest tables to stand behind until it was time for class to start. |
Théodore was rushing this morning. Not because of SORE by now he was used to it. But just because of his poor time management skills. His tie was a little bit loose and his shirt was not tucked in all the way and yeah it wasn't ironed. Maybe at some point it would be less points lost for skipping than for his uniform being like this. He walked in and well not too many people yet, so guess he was early. Weird, but it works "Hey, Professor" He was just going to stand behind a desk now and lean his legs on it. Do not touch the dummies. So does that mean he is not suppose to touch anyone in class or just the the literally dummies. Questions that didnt have an answer. He was thankful it was at least warm in the classroom. |
Nettie was so relieved to see Marchard in the classroom when she arrived - even though he looked pretty upset. She didn't blame him. SHE was upset about everything as well. It was truly a relief to see him, because with all the recent firings, you never knew WHEN your favorite professor was going to just vanish. If Marchard got fired, Nettie would just LOSE it. Not saying a word to him as she entered - as per those stupid rules - she took her place and waited patiently for class to start. |
Skyler walked into the charms class and looked around. There were dummies behind the charm's professor. She gave him a small nod but said nothing as she stood by her desk that she chose. |
As the days had passed, Stasya’s feelings about the whole term had only gotten that much more complicated. Mostly due to the very real threat that the professors not brought in by the headmaster could be summarily fired at any time, and she really would rather not be terrified of every professor when she had so much more to deal with. Exams, general (as in not including all the new rules) prefecting, the Animagus training she’d still managed to keep going even if it meant having to run SORE in the mornings on little sleep. Visiting the barns and Professor Wayland. Her secret notebook had only gotten fatter over the days, waiting for the time she could smuggle it out over the holidays to get to Professor Hirsch. Someone needed to know the truth. She had been surreptitiously keeping an eye on Professor Marchand over the past weeks too, so his appearance as the tall blonde prefect had walked into the Charms classroom hadn’t really surprised her. At least, she’d kept the frown inside, just in her thoughts, as she’d walked to her usual seat and given him the brightest smile she could manage as she stood quietly behind it. Given all the conflict in her head these days, it was getting harder to stay her usual self. Maybe they were learning healing charms today? |
Patrick made it into the classroom and noticed that Professor Marchand still hadn’t looked much better since the beginning of the year. Although any more Patrick was fairly certain that he too felt like he was struggling to find the joy in school. Anymore he was worried to so much as breath. He was really wishing his parents had let him stay with his grandparents. Taking stock of which desks were open he walked over to one and stood behind it praying he didn’t loose more points since you know apparently having manners was grounds for point deductions. Nodding at Professor Marchand he stood waiting patiently so he could try and enjoy a class. |
........ Uh.......... Had he walked into the wrong class?! Lucas, who was standing near the door in shock, just..... looked at the scene ahead of him. Mainly, the dummies. There were dummies on each desk with cuts and broken bones and other things that were making him feel a little uneasy. It didn't sound like it was going to be a FUN lesson, you know? Everything looked really serious and miserable and he didn't like it. ...... was it too late to turn around and walk out of the class? He didn't really know how long he was standing there but it was a while before he took a few more steps into the class...... and then a few more and a few more...... until he was standing near an empty seat on the emptiest row he could find. As much as he didn't want to be anywhere near these dummies, he couldn't help but lean forward slightly to try and get a better look at the cuts and things on it. They looked very real, didn't they? Huh. He.... half-wondered if they were going to be doing some more bandaging in this class. He did need some practice with the bandage skills. And nothing was said to the Professor. Because rules, of course. But he did notice that the man looked a lot sadder than usual. |
Classes were getting..... more and more boring with every silly litle rule the new Headmaster introduced. Chase was certain at this rate that the majority of students were probably contemplating transferring away from the school or at least maybe trying their hardest to convince their parents to remain at home. He was at first, hopeful, of possible treats when he entered the Charms classroom but became a little disappointed when he saw none there. It was dull, grey, and over the top serious. He frowned at first before smiled when he realized that Professor Marchand was playing by the rules as best as he could. Smart man. He was very proud of his Head of House. Chase nodded his head at the Professor and offered a small smile. |
Chloe froze in the doorway to the classroom, observing the professor's big sad eyes with her own distraught expression. What was wrong with him? Was it the certainty of his own firing? Was it that his friends kept disappearing? Or was... it... that they were all so dumb and it broke his heart? "Good day, Professor. I hope you're going somewhere pleasant for the winter holiday." She finally started moving again, much to the joy of anyone stuck behind her in the doorway. Chloe chose a seat in the middle of the room, somewhere easy to observe without being too extremely overt. |
As she headed into the charms classroom she noticed that Professor Marchand seem to be upset. Who could blame him, the professors (the decent ones) were under as much if not more stress than the students. ”Hello Professor Marchand.” At least a greeting was still an acceptable way to show respect for professors. Or some of them. Some of them you couldn’t even do that with some. Anyway she give the professor an encouraging smile. He seemed even sadder than normal. Juniper noticed the dummies and stopped to see what was up with them. She didn’t touch per the notice. She was immediately excited to see the dummies with cuts and maybe even broken bones from the look of them. This term was really feeding her ideas of becoming a healer. At least now she had something to look forward to in the lesson. Not that she wasn’t excited about a charms lesson either way. She went to her seat and stood behind it until it was time for the lesson to begin. |
Everything about this school year was making Slate miserable. He had heard the rumors that school had that effect on some people, but this was clearly over the top. He was, unfortunately, expecting an announcement that Christmas was cancelled any second now. That would sound about right considering it was the only thing that kept him going these days. "Professor." he probably said out loud as he entered the classroom. Who could really tell these days? There was just... emptiness all around. He then walked to an empty seat. He heaved his bag into the seat and began digging through it. Since they weren't allowed to sit yet, he might as well get set up for the lesson. He pulled out a water bottle, blue muggle pen, and regular pocket mirror and set it on the side of his desk. All items not contraband that he'd been carrying around in his bag just because he could. He then glanced in Juni's direction. Was this considered too public? Which reminded him that he should mention to her that he had a ribbon in his bag that they could both hold an end of. No rule breaking there. The Ravenclaw would be proud of him. He also had a mirror and was willing to learn morse code. Because, apparently, certain people thought things like that would be less disruptive than handholding. (Which, coincidentally, had way more health benefits than annoyances.) |
Loosening his tie just a bit as he stepped inside the classroom, Derf was quick to note the general demeanor of Professor Marchand....who honestly just seemed to get sadder and sadder each term. Of course this term the Hufflepuff could venture more of a guess as to why...but it was almost like the man enjoyed being unhappy with how things kept going on, you know? Unlike others, and even with the way guilt shriveled up his moderately fragile heart, he was relieved not to see any food or drink in the classroom and quickly made his way over to a seat towards the middle of the classroom... Quote:
So...this was going to be the next level of RICE then? Was there another grain for healing charms? CORN, perhaps? With the C being for Charms? Derf merely offered the deputy headmaster and small smile. Had to be hard on him since, well, he was technically the right hand man in terms of titles...but clearly wasn't in Headmaster Scrimgeour's eyes. That title officially fell upon Professor Fletcher...which, well, did that make Professor Marchand even more disposable? Could someone be fired for being...too joyless? Derf had, well, sorta hoped that the man would have acted more like a Patronus Charm against the dementor dictatorship overtaking the castle...but alas. |
Well, this was gloomy. Cold, dark, no sweets (though she couldn't complain), not even a smile from the Professor. He looked quite.. depressed, if she was being honest. He looked how a lot of people probably felt several months into the new routine of Hogwarts. Still, Natalie was trying to remain as positive as possible. Her eyes glanced over the damaged dummies as she walked into class. She hoped they'd be learning healing charms - which it did seem obvious they would be doing - so she could keep up and learn more skills for her future as a healer. Or a nurse. Or just.. somebody who could apply bruise paste to someone. "Morning Professor," she greeted quietly, only making a brief amount of eye contact before standing at her station. She didn't chat, nor did she look anywhere but the front of the classroom. |
Hanna was clad in her full uniform, with the scarf added for warmth. It wasn't the same Charms class she usually walked into, and Professor Gaston certainly didn't look like he usually did. The young Claw bit her lip as she walked into the class, giving him a nod in lieu of a greeting. She must remain silent unless first spoken to. She stood behind one of the desks and took in what was there. Hurt dummies. Were they going to be learning some healing charms? That would be pretty cool! It didn't take long for Hanna to feel warm enough to take her scarf off, which she did, draping it over her chair. That wasn't against the rules was it? Hopefully Professor Gaston wouldn't be fired after the lesson, either. Sigh. |
Greetings & First question Text Cut: Individual replies here! After some time had passed, Gaston checked his watch again. Exactly 9:00 on the dot... time for class to begin. He pointed his wand at the door, and it closed (a bit louder than intended) and locked itself just after Hannah's arrival. If anyone asked, he locked the door so late arrivals would have no choice but to draw attention to themselves, but it was really intended to keep unwanted visitors out rather than students in. He didn't want to be caught off guard if Scrimgeour decided to spy on his lessons! "Good morning, class," he said, never moving from his spot at the front of the room. "Please be seated." He glanced out at the students as he waited for them to take their seats. He was pleased that they'd all remembered to remain standing today; he really hated handing out punishments, especially for something that trivial! After a couple of moments passed, He went on, "As you've probably guessed, today we'll be covering healing charms." It was practically a necessity, given recent events! With a wave of his wand, the writing on the board vanished, and the words: Healing Charms appeared in big bold letters. "Look at the dummies in front of you. Take a quick moment to assess their injuries, and name a spell you think would help them. If you can't think of the name of the spell, describe what it does." OOC: Class has officially started! Feel free to jump in at any time; just pretend your charrie has been here all along. Late arrivals will receive IC consequences. As Gaston said, all you have to do is name a spell to help the dummies. You have 21 - 24 HOURS (12:30 - 3:30 AM EDT Oct. 6) to answer the question... I have to move us on a few hours earlier than usual because of a RL appointment. So sorry! :( |
Daisy sat down, ready to begin the lesson. This was a subject that she hoped she was going to be a tad successful at today considering what had happened to her. Her hand immediately went up and she answered, "I believe Vulnera Sanentur is used to treat large wounds and to cease blood flow. Maybe that is what was used to treat my wounds last year but I wouldn't know." |
Rylee had been on time for the lesson, uniform neat and tidy, the usual smile on her face whether or not she was happy. A simple greeting had been given to those around her the professor included while she had taken place behind her desk. Once they had been given the okay to sit, Rylee had done so. Quietly she took out some parchment and her quill trying to ignore the 'dummy' that lay on her desk while she took notes. Healing charms. Was there a theme or something going on lately in these lessons? Healing potions and now healing charms. Seemed like all the professors wanted to make sure the students could take care of an injury. Rylee raised her hand when it was her turn, "Episkey may be helpful. It's good with healing small injuries and broken bones." |
Skyler let out a small sigh and sat down when told that she was allowed to. She took off her scarf when she saw that the other student did not get in trouble and she draped it over her chair. She had her uniform in order and ironerd so he could not doc points for that. Hopefully he does not get fired from his job after this. She did not know of any spells and the only one she knew of one of the other students already said so she kept her hand down and silently listened. |
She didn’t care what anyone else said, it’d been a relief walking into Charms and not finding anything to give her anxiety cause to worsen. With the way the professors had been so heedlessly forcing rule breaking on them, the Ravenclaw had to admit she was relieved at the dreary setting. The man’s demeanour, while not unnoticed, was of little consequence to her. This wasn’t a happy term. To see a professor bouncing around with glee would have been off putting to say the least and would’ve sent her stomach churning something fierce. This was okay. Jessa took her seat when instructed to and spared a glance over at the dummies. They’d received notice too but they were also given little thought. The nature of the lesson was obvious but the man teaching it gave her little hope it would be in a way her own mind would appreciate it. The Head Girl had long accepted that most lessons would leave her feeling under-stimulated. “The suturing charm would be useful for deep gashes.” She sounded almost bored, her gaze set on the window she’d chosen to sit by. She remembered the last time some form of stitching charm was taught by the man. Halloween. He’d been appalled by her suggestion. It left her reluctant and disinterested in answering most times these days for questions of opinion. The man seemed to care very little for hers and she supposed she couldn’t blame him. |
Taking a seat, Stella was glad that Professor Marchand hasn't been replaced, but she was worried. All the nice Professor's were getting sacked and all there was mean and cold ones. It made her shiver how Hogwarts was turning and she hated it. It was more like a military school then a place of magic and wonder. Stella raised her hand. " W...What about Reparifors isn't it a healing spell that reverts minor magically-induced ailments?" Stella asked biting her lip. After the other Professor's cold reply she was afraid to answer questions but she knew how kind Professor Marchand was, so she wasn't that scared. This was probably one of the classes she could relax in besides Herbology and CoMC. |
Juni sat down when Professor Marchand told them to. Think goodness the lesson was starting finally. The sixth year shook her head half amused by all of stuff on Slate’s desk, half trying to figure out what he was doing with all of it. Once she did she looked over at him and grinned. Right after Professor Marchand had told him to put it back in his bag. ”Thanks.” She was close enough to reach over and grab the mirror, look her at herself and place it into her bag. She grinned again and turned back to the front of the class. Healing charms… of course. she listened to the professors question before she raised her hand, ”The Bandaging Charm is used to bandage and splint broken bones, and it’s said to help with pain too.” |
Chocolate frogs had not had occupancy in the sixth year's pockets since that fateful Astronomy lesson. The weight of hypocrisy in his pocket from them as he had strolled back up to the castle that night enough to make him sink into the ground. He was surprised the club exchanging the wizarding cards was still instated given how things were going, though he was grateful it was still there. Small sense of normalcy, you know? The locking of the door did not go unnoticed, especially given how he was hypersensitive to the fact that the door had shut given that SLAM. It made him feel...anxious though nothing that Alohomora couldn't fix in a pinch, he reckoned. He also reckoned that this lesson, along with RICE, were a direct result of the carnage that had been last term. Better late than never, yeah? Though he had hardly been in any condition to fix himself up last term and thankfully Bel had been quick her feet to set his broken wrists on site. "Not technically classified as a healing charm...but...Aguamenti..." he offered when his turn came. "...you gotta clean open wounds before you tend to them...flush out the surface and interior as best you can." |
Chloe was so haunted by the professor's expression, especially at how it had lifted when she'd just been nice to him. Did that mean people generally weren't being nice or that he needed a kind word now and then? She smiled broadly at him but didn't continue the conversation, since it was just gonna get them both in trouble. But onward... Oh, bandages! Juni was the cleverest. "I know the spell to conjure bandages! It's Inurio Bani." And she was having to practice it a lot lately. |
Start of Main Activity Text Cut: Daisy Daisy's hand was the first Gaston saw in the air. He listened intently to her answer, nodding in approval. "Very good, Miss Swann. That's exactly what Vulnera Sanentur does," he said, but his expression darkened at the mention of last term. The memories of that night came rushing back... creatures clawing at him, students crying, the great hall on fire. He shook his head, trying to force the bad memories deep down where they belonged. "Y-yes, that's certainly possible." Text Cut: Rylee Before Gaston could become too lost in his traumatic thoughts, he saw Rylee's hand. He called on her, secretly grateful for the distraction. Her answer also earned a nod. "Excellent, Miss Prichard," he replied. Text Cut: Skyler As Gaston glanced out at the students, his eyes momentarily fell on Skyler. He waited a moment to see if she would raise her hand, but it seemed the girl had nothing to say. That was alright. Unlike some people at this school, Gaston would never berate a student for not having an answer. Maybe she'd have something to add later on. He gave her a very small encouraging smile before moving on. Text Cut: Jessa Was Gaston just imagining things or did Jessa seem a little distracted? Not that he blamed her at all... if this term was even half as hard on her as it was on him, she must have a lot on her mind! A familiar pang of guilt gripped his heart, just as it always did when he looked at her, and his thoughts went back to that day several terms ago. He regretted the way he acted as soon as it happened... he was just caught off guard and on edge because of the intrusion from the BoG. He feared the visitor would've found the subject disturbing and judge him harshly had he not reacted... but instead, he lost the ability to engage his student forever. This time, he wasn't shocked that her mind went there and gave her an approving nod. "It most certainly would," he agreed, smiling slightly. "Thank you for answering, Miss Cambridge." Text Cut: Stella Poor Stella! Gaston's heart went out to her; he knew how hard this term was for her! Her lip biting was immediately noticed, and he gave her a quick sympathetic look. Her answer even got a smile from him... a very small sad one, but it was there. "Yes, indeed it is," he replied with a nod. Not one of the spells they would be practicing today, but a correct answer nonetheless. "Very good, Miss Starson." Text Cut: Juni Blink, blink. Gaston was officially confused by the collection of items on Slate's desk. He watched as Juni grabbed the mirror and put it away. So that was her mirror? Then what was Slate doing with it? Never mind... as long as it wasn't a two-way mirror and it was put away like he asked, he didn't need to know. Switching gears, he noticed Juni's hand in the air and listened to her answer. "Yes! Excellent, Miss Primeaux," he said, nodding. "i don't think I could've worded that better myself." Text Cut: Derf Now this was an answer Gaston hadn't expected to hear. but it wasn't wrong. If nothing else, he had to give Derf props for thinking outside the box! He considered the Hufflepuff's answer a moment before nodding in approval. "That's certainly true, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne," he said with a small smile. "Thank you for your unique answer." Text Cut: Chloe Gaston retutned Chloe's smile with a much smaller, slightly sad one. He wasn't surprised that she'd chosen not to continue thier conversation, but even so, just the fact that she'd talked to him at all gave him a small glimmer of hope that Julian Scrimgeour hadn't yet snuffed out all the kindness at Hogwarts. When he saw her hand go up, he called on her and listened to her answer, nodding approvingly. "A useful spell to know," he said. "very good, Miss Kettleburn." Gaston's eyes scanned the room for any more hands in the air. Nothing? Okay, then... moving on. "Nice job, everyone," he said, addressing the students as a group. "All of the spells mentioned would be useful in healing the dummies, but just to recap..." With a wave of his wand, the following words appeared under the heading on the blackboard: Quote:
Had everyone been paying attention to that demonstration? Good. "It should be noted that a larger, more serious broken bone, like an arm or leg, is more difficult to treat magically and requires a different spell. Treating a large broken bone can be dangerous when done incorrectly; some of the complications include bones accidentally being misaligned or completely removed. So, let's say you find yourself or a friend with a large broken bone and not a healer in sight. You don't want to risk mending the bones incorrectly, so what can you do to help?" Gaston gave the class a moment or two to consider the situation before going on, "In that case, you should use the Bandaging charm, as Miss Primeaux mentioned earlier, as a temporary measure until you can seek professional help. The Bandaging charm differs from the spell Miss Kettelburn mentioned in that it is used primarily for broken bones, while Inurio Bandi can be used for other types of injuries. Inurio Bandi only produces the bandage, while the bandaging charm also splints the wound and eases pain. The casting is fairly simple. All you have to do is tap the target - lightly - and use the incantation Ferula..."He deomonstrated the spell on the leg of another dummy. "Fer-ROOL-lah." He tapped the dummy's leg. a long bandage shot out of the tip of his wand and wound itself around the leg. When that was done, he addressed the class once more, "Your first activity is to treat the dummies using Episkey and Ferula. Use Episkey on the minor cuts and broken toes, fingers, and noses. Use Ferula on all the other broken bones. Please leave the deeper gashes alone for now! We'll be coming back to those. If you have questions, raise your hand, and I'll come to you. Begin... NOW!" OOC: This is the start of the main activity. As Gaston said, treat the dummies' broken bones and minor cuts with Episkey and Ferula, but leave the deep gashes alone. You may work in groups or alone, but every person must attempt both spells for full credit. Gaston and I will be checking in periodically, so if you have questions/need help, please indicate in the title of your post, and we'll get back to you. You have 4 DAYS (2:30 AM EDT Wed. Oct. 10) to complete the activity. ^_^ |
Despite having his notebook and muggle pen at the ready, Dorian had not written any notes. The reason was because he already knew most of these charms. He had never used them before except for the aguamenti one, but he had read about them on multiple occasions. So the Ravenclaw put his supplies back in his bag after the activity was announced and he put his hand in his robe to take out his acacia wand. He stood up from his place and walked over to one of the dummies, eyeing the pretty obvious injuries on it wondering which ones would be easiest , even for him, to heal. The wand movement was luckily easy to do, just a soft tap on the area. Dorian walked around the dummy, looking for a place to use the episkey charm at first. He had decided to first treat the cuts and such and then the broken places as it would be difficult to find the cuts when they were covered in bandages. Deciding on working on the dummy's right arm at first, the fourth year lifted up his wand, pointed it at one of the smaller cuts, moved it downwards and said; "Episkey" to his absolute surprise, the charm .....worked! Dorian watched as the small cut healed instantly with his mouth slightly open. He had not thought that it would work on the first time. Normally he had to practise a spell even after classes had finished and he was studying in the common room. Feeling a massive burst of pride, Dorian looked around as if it say 'did you see that?!' but kept quiet. A small smile that was slowly getting bigger was forming on his lips as he searched for another injury. Had his practises paid off or had he FINALLY found something he was good at? Whichever it was, the Ravenclaw was in a good mood again. |
Quote:
Once she had done that, Daisy grabbed her wand and began to practice the right wand technique for Episkey. Having heard the pronunciation of the Healing Charms during her stay at St Mungo's last year that she felt confident enough to practice the wand movement only. Daisy began moving her wand in the downwards diagonal line that Professor Marchand had demonstrated to the class. She practised twice more before she felt ready to perform the spell on the dummy in front of her. Daisy saw that "her" dummy had a broken right index finger so she aimed her wand at the injured digit, moving it in a downwards diagonal motion as she said clearly, "Episkey!" Within seconds, the dummy's right index finger was in the correct position. Noticing that the dummy's left leg was contorted at a rather peculiar angle, which was a sure indicator of a broken limb, Daisy tapped the dummy's left leg, clearly saying, "Ferula!" The desired result (the leg being back in the proper place) was achieved within moments. |
First the bandaging, then the bruise paste and now healing charms. It seemed to be something of a theme this term and Max hoped it was just a coincidence and that this wasn't the Professors' way of .... preparing them for something. After jotting down a few notes, Max drew his wand and took a moment to study his dummy. There were a few minor injuries here and there, a couple of shallow cuts and what looked like a broken nose. "Episkey!" He moved his wand diagonally over the dummy's nose and watched at it clicked back into place. No more wonky dummy nose. There was definitely a wonky arm that needed fixing though. As instructed, Max tapped his wand lightly on the dummy's arm and this time concentrated on casting the charm non-verbally. Ferula Ferula Ferula. |
post 1 "okay dummy... you better not be programmed to scream or attack or anything" he was feeling very skeptical about all these classes but hey... these could come in handy. twirling his wand in his hand he thought of the Episkey and how it was properly pronounced. it was a good thing he was doing this one because this shady looking dummy had some twisted fingers and his nose was surely broken. moving his wand in a downward diagonal manner he said "Episkey" and just like that the wand that was pointed towards the dummys nose moved back into position... hes never broken his nose before so he wondered if the spell actually hurt someone to put the nose back into place.. "ewwwwwww" he shuddered just thinking about it. but he was happy that the dummy didnt make any noise while it got corrected. now time to fix those fingers dude because they were just looking horrible. "Episkey" doing the movement again he fixed this guys fingers. CL then sat down infront of his dummy and started to assess the bigger problems he was having "having a hard day there bud?" he spoke to it while thinking of the the incantation "Fer-ROOL-lah" |
Most of the man’s words found their way to her ears with her eyes still set out the window. It wasn’t until he said they could begin working on the dummies that her attention returned to the classroom and indeed her patient laying on the table. The wounds looked real, to their credit but there was still a very crucial element missing. Jessa drew her wand as she looked the dummy up and down. This just wouldn’t do. Wordlessly, Jessa animated her dummy and watched its chest begin to heave up and down in simulated breathing. Seconds later, the dummy pulled itself up into a sitting position, and turned to face her, ready for instruction. ”Arms out.” The Head Girl waited patiently while the dummy—Ted, he looked like a Ted—extended his arms for her to examine. She turned and lifted them as needed to get a better look at the injuries. Until the point at which she started working with cadavers, it seemed more prudent to have a moving subject. |
post 2 CL thought he should name his dummy atleast, dude kind of looked like a Chad. "okay Chad.... seems like you got something broken in your arm and as well as this knee doesnt look to great" he got up and moved closer, to make sure thats all he was missing and yup, that looked like all of the things he could help with.. For some reason it did seem like it was weird that he had to tap the area first with the wand.. if this was a person that wouldnt be cool, but hey he didnt make the rules. he stopped moving the wand in his and and tapped Chads arm and said :Fer-ROOL-lah" and he didnt even wait for anything to happen because he heard the sound of things popping out of the air and wrapped around Chads arm and it was bandaged and splinted, and he bent quickly to Chads knee and tapped it too and said the words again "Fer-ROOL-lah" and that too made a sound while things were happening. "okay looks good to me" for a second there he almost high fived the dummy, that would have been a bad move especially if someone was actually paying attention to him. |
post one - mention of Jessa's level of extra Uhhhh, Natalie had kind of been zoning out. She knew they were talking about healing charms, because it was obvious that the dummies were wounded.. and they were in Charms class. Her attention was grabbed when Professor Marchand began talking about the two spells they'd be working with today. Luckily, she had paid attention in time. Episkey was easy enough. Ferula was harder, but she had practiced that one before, so it wouldn't be too hard to get these dummies back in working order. Speaking of working order... Natalie was again temporarily distracted by the dummy that Jessa had made come to life. It was amusing and very much not surprising. Only she would do that... Turning her attention back to her damaged dummy, Natalie pulled out her wand and looked over the dummy for the small cuts and booboos. "Episkey," she said, tapping each area lightly with her wand. She repeated the motion and watched the small wounds heal. For the larger wounds, she would need a different spells. For the broken arm and broken leg... Ferula would work. Natalie stepped back and cleared her throat. "Ferula," she commanded, pointing her wand at the broken leg. And she was glad, when the bone snapped back into place. But... should it have snapped? That seemed awfully painful... Maybe she wasn't doing it right. |
Arthuria looked down at her dummy and cleared her throat a little as she pointed her wand at the dummys nose. "Episky!" she said in a clear, confident voice. The nose shifted back into place and Arthuria felt a surge of confidence swell inside of her. She pointed her wand at the other cuts repeated the spell, once or twice having to correct her pronunciation. When she got to the broken leg she spoke the second "Fer-Ooh-La" she said pronouncing it carefully and smiled as the leg mended. She looked around to see how her classmates were doing. She had still not gotten the courage to speak to many besides Lizzie and on occasion Derf. She liked her Charms Professor, but he did seem a little sad as of late and she wished she could help in some small way. [/COLOR] |
Catch up D: "Hello Professor Marchand," Hanna replied as he greeted her. There ya go Scrimgeour, she remained silent until spoken to. She took in the door lock, and felt somewhat more relaxed. At least there would be an announcement if Mr Headmaster decided to poke his unwanted head in on the lesson. Taking the instruction, Hanna sat in her chair. She nodded as the subject of healing charms was spoken. It would be an exciting lesson, then! Hanna enjoyed learning about healing, even if it was in no way the career she'd choose for herself. She took the moment to look at the dummy and try to figure out a quick and thorough way to assess it. She jotted some thoughts in her mind, but remained silent and took everything her classmates said down in her mind too, and once Professor Marchand put them all on the board, Hanna wrote them all down on a piece of parchment titled 'Charms'. Having never used either of the spells, Hanna wrote down what was being said. The incantations and how to pronounce them, and the wand movements, as well as what they actually did. And no, she certainly didn't want to risk further damage by attempting to heal something that was much too far out of her scope. The bandaging charm sounded pretty neat, being that it bandaged, splinted, and relieved pain. Hanna pulled out her wand and stood up to take the dummy in again. Right, so she was looking for some of the minor cuts, broken toes, and fingers, and some other bigger broken limbs. There was a small cut to the dummy's cheek, and Hanna said "eh-PIS-kee," whilst moving her wand down in a diagonal line. At first, nothing happened. She tried the words a few times, and wordless wand movements to practice. After a few minutes she went back to the dummy. "eh-PIS-kee," she cast again, moving her wand in a downward diagonal line. The cut was smoothed over and seemed to vanish. With a smile, she performed the spell on a few more of the shallow cuts and grazes she saw on the dummy, before moving to some of the smaller broken bones. There looked to be two broken toes, and three broken fingers. "eh-PIS-kee," she said, pointing to the smallest of the broken toes, with a downward diagonal movement from her wand. With a bit of a sickening crunch, the broken toe straightened out and appeared healed. With a small shudder from the sound, she went to work fixing the other toes and fingers. Once that was done, it was time to have fun with the bandaging charm. "fer-ROOL-lah," she said a dozen times, slowly at first, and then with more confidence. The wand movement was a simple tap, which Hanna practiced a few times before trying it out for real, on what looked like a broken upper arm. She cleared her throat, pointed her wand towards the break and said "fer-ROOL-lah," and gave the arm a tap with her wand. At first nothing happened, so she repeated it. The second time, bandages wrapped around both the limb and a splint. She couldn't assess whether the dummy was out of pain, however, because it was a dummy. |
She had to admit, she was quite a bit more engaged now that she had a responsive patient. So much so that her classmates sitting about her all but disappeared. The Ravenclaw’s focus was on Ted while her mind idly made up various scenarios for how he could have come by his injuries. Perhaps he’d fallen down the ravine below the wooden bridge in an extra bit of gryffindoring. It wouldn’t surprise her, so many injuries and all. Ted could very well be a Gryffindor. Of course, knowing what she did, he could’ve been a Ravenclaw too. His thirst for knowledge could’ve led him to his injuries, in which case she suspected he may have been very proud of himself should whatever he’d been trying to study been a success. What were a few cuts and scrapes in the pursuit of knowledge? Jessa turned and raised his hands, wanting a full idea of what she was dealing with. When satisfied, she drew her wand and cast a few nonverbal “episkey” to get the smaller, less serious injuries sorted. “Arms down, left leg up.” The Head Girl was methodical as she worked, treating Ted as she would any of her other test subjects in need of repair. He sorta reminded her of her dolls—loosely. His texture and level of mobility couldn’t compare as that would require far more work than just the animation charm, but there was still something about him. After a quick assessment of the leg, Jessa cast another, nonverbal “episkey” followed soon after by a bandaging charm as required. Not quite good as new, but that would also require a bit more than what was expected in this charms room and would take a bit of time. |
OKAY, healing a dummy. Got it. Chloe propped her chin on her fist and gazed down at her patient. It was obviously very injured and required immediate medical attention. "Hello, there, I'm your Healer. My name is Chloe. I'm very sorry you're feeling unwell." She lifted a free hand to feel the forehead of the dummy. Hmmm, room temperature. Appeared to be dead. "You're a bit cooler than I'd prefer. Can you tell me where it hurts? No? Perhaps you've bitten off your own tongue? Or gone unconscious. Dreadful." Chloe leaned in to examine the fake wounds up close. Double dreadful. "I'd like to start with your worst wounds, but unfortunately, the Head Healer says not now." That would be the professor. Chloe pointed out one of the shallower cuts instead. "Episkey." And... healed? Hm. Try again. "EPISKEY." There we go. "Better at all, dear?" |
Okay so healing a dummy. This should be fun. Skyler stood up and looked the dummy that she chose. She made a face. Eee. This looks horrible. She bit her lip taking a breath and raised her hand. "Scuse me, Professor Marchend? May I be excused for a minute?" She asked. Yeah. The look of the dummy was making her feel queesy. |
Everybody! *rearranges slightly* Gaston moved between the rows of desks, his cane click-clacking against the floor as he went. He saw Daisy and Maxton having quick success with the spells and gave both prefects an approving nod. "Very good, Miss Swann," he said. "You too, Mr. Carden." Elsewhere, it looked like Arthuria was catching on too. He was impressed! Not many first years could master healing spells so fast. "Nicely done, Miss Ambrosius!" he said, managing a small smile for her. And Natalie was progressing nicely as well. "Good job, Miss McKinley," he said, "and don't worry, the snapping is normal." The sound of another spell being cast caused Gaston's dark head to whip around... just in time to see Dorian successfully cast Episkey. The sight of the smile on the Ravenclaw's face made it impossible not to smile along with him. "Well done, Mr. Katharos!" he said, beaming. It seemed all his practice was paying off! Gaston's expression darkened slightly as he watched Hannah try and fail to cast one of the spells. For a moment, he worried she might get frustrated and quit, but before he had time to sidle over to her desk to offer an encouraging word or helpful advice - he wasn't as fast as he used to be! - she'd already cast the spell herself. He beamed. "Great job, Miss Newton! I knew you could do it," he said. He overheard Christoper and Chloe talking to their dummies and almost laughed... almost, but not quite. It never failed to warm his heart to see his students showing kindness... even if it was kindness to an inanimate object. "Great work, Mr. Lee and Miss Kettleburn! How are your patients doing?" he said with a joking smile. Blink, blink. Gaston could only stare at Jessa's animated dummy for a minute, unsure whether he should be amused or panicked. If that's what worked for her, he was okay with it... but somehow he didn't think Scrimgeour would be. Apprehensive eyes darted toward the door. Despite the locking charm in place, he half-expected the headmaster to barge in at any moment, and he knew the old man would find a way to use it against her. But if he asked her to un-animate the dummy, he'd lose her interest. He was so wracked with conflict that he almost forgot to praise her spellwork. "Excellent, Miss Cambridge," he said somewhat absentmindedly. Before he could decide what to do about the dummy, he saw Skyler's hand in the air. His face fell as once again, conflict buzzed in his mind... great, just what he needed. He didn't want to deny her request if she had a legitimate reason for needing to leave, but he knew if he let her go and she encountered Scrimgeour or one of his cronies, it would mean trouble for both of them, no matter what the reason was. He crossed the room to Skyler's desk. "Why? What's wrong?" he asked, his eyes widening with concern. OOC: You still have JUST UNDER 48 HOURS to finish the activity. ^_^ |
Jackson had been present of course, but had been busy scribbling notes during the first questions because he had finally realized how much he did NOT know about First Aid. Plus, honestly the vibe in the room was really bumming him out. Charms was one of Jackson’s favorite subjects, even if it wasn’t necessarily his best, but today’s lesson looked a bit uh… grim, really. He shrugged it off though because this stuff was so helpful at Hogwarts what with weird things happening like, all the time. You’d think they would have come up with a more powerful spell to defend themselves! Oh, magic was a crazy thing. He had finished his notes and was surveying the dummies when the next instructions were given out. Yea, that had been expected considering what the dummies looked like right now. Blech. Jackson found a torn up looking dummy and began noting its injuries for his records. Today would have been a good day to have some of that bruise paste that they had made, huh?? It’s too bad that it was up in his dorm right now… He silently cursed himself for this but began healing with the spell he felt more familiar with. He looked at the broken nose first and considered it. After gathering his focus a bit more, he tried the spell out. “Episkey!” And with a pop similar to the one heard when someone Apparated, the nose cracked back to its ‘natural’ placement. Jackson cringed a bit at the sight, but it was immediately over. Yea… He was much more likely to be a patient than a Healer. He took a moment to survey the other students and seeing how they fared, but his eyes caught Jessa’s dummy and his eyebrows raised slightly of their own accord. Whoa. Yea, he hadn’t planned on animating his Jackson’s dummy’s name was Alfred. Alfred had tried to help, but he wasn’t very skilled in dueling apparently. Jackson looked over Alfred’s wounds again and went for any minor cuts he could find. “Episkey… Episkey!...Episkey!” Once these had been cleared up, it was time to address the elephant in the room… This broken jaw. The jaw was practically hanging off on one side if he was being honest and it was quite gruesome. “Ferula!” …nothing happened. The mangled jaw still lay limp at that odd angle. He sighed. Alright, let’s try this again. He closed his eyes trying to clear it of distractions. |
SPOILER!!: PROFESSOR Skyler frowned at his look but decided to ask anyway. She already put her hand up. "It's just the site of the blood professor," she said. "It's making me a bit queesy. |
Really Juniper was enjoying all of these healing lessons that seem to be some sort of theme this term. She had considered being a healer after Hogwarts or a cursebreaker. She had possibly narrowed it down to the two. She could do both though right? If she wanted to be in school for forever. As much as she liked learning and being in school she wasn’t sure if she wanted to still be in school when she was like thirty. Through it would be cool to be a healer cursebreaker. She wondered how many of those were around. But just learning as many healing spells, and potions and stuff would come in handy for cursebreaking too. The sixth year heard her best friend Chloe talking to the dummy like it was her patient. To sounded like she would make a healer too. So if she wanted to be a healer she should work on her own bedside manor as well. Since she had a chance to do so. She looked over to Chloe and flashed her a smile. ”Hello, Mr. Dummy. I’m healer Juni.” She held her hand out and shook the dummies good arm. Clearly the left arm was broken, along with it’s nose, maybe a finger and the right leg. Also a possible sprained ankle. There were plenty of cut to minor and some deep gashes. ”You have done quite a number on yourself, sir. Maybe next time you should take the elevator?” Surely that was what caused this, a nice tumble down the stairs. ”Well I’ll have you up and back on your feet in no time.” Patting the dummy on the shoulder. Juniper started on the major things, First she worked on the broken arm. ”Ferula.” As she lightly tapped the dummy’s arm. But nothing happened. ”Ferula!” She tapped on the broken arm lightly again. This time the bandages shot out of her wand and wrapped itself around the arm of the dummy. She did the same with the dummy’s leg. Just this time she casted a nonverbal ferula on the leg. Feeling like she wanted to try it nonverbally this time. Next she moved to the minor breaks, and shallow cuts. First she focused on the broken nose. Doing the wand movement for a downward diagonal line and said ”Episkey!” The dummy’s nose straighten back up. Then she nonverbally casted episkey on minor cuts. Lastly since Juniper thought that maybe the ankle was sprained too. With a swooping motion of her wand, She said ”Inurio Bandi.” and a long bandage materialized out of the end of her wand. She took the bandage and wrapped it around the dummy’s ankle. |
If Derf could have had things his way...he would have preferred that his dummy be in the form of a creature - kneazle or crup perhaps - since that was more in accordant to what he wanted to do in life. That and, er, seeing a body lady on the table with open wounds and such was a bit triggering - all things considered. Thankfully, unlike in his second year, he was able to somewhat separate the two things. This was not the aftermath of the inferi and he was safe. Though he did have to go through his list inside his head on re-centering himself. That is...until he heard Jessa coolly command someone to hold their arms out and his head did a sloooooooow turn towards her. And NOW his stomach dropped a little, his mind unfortunately spiraling to other things that she animated and .......... reanimated. Derf was mostly tolerable of the whole thing and had even befriended her kneazles. But...in light of last term...he just did not see how it was right for necromancy to continue within the walls of Hogwarts. Or, honestly, why it had been okay in the first place. Eyes wide and staring at his friend, Derf had to start over with his list and struggled a bit this time as he forced his face back to the dummy he needed to work on. Somewhere in between everything managing to drop his wand, so he quickly bent down to pick that up before returning his eyes to the dummy to assess everything. A few deep breaths later and the Hufflepuff was diligently casting Episkey's along the small gashes and fingers bend at awkward angles - the popping noise they made as they returned to their natural position being a little nauseating and honestly reminded him of the noise his wrists had made while at the mercy of the inferius' grip. ....could he have a creature dummy? |
Quote:
"ohhh Chad?" he pointed his thumb over to the dummy. "I think I have him sorted for now, thanks Professor" he said with a little smile. surprisingly this class wasnt going as bad as he thought it would be. |

She turned her attention back to her patient, giving the dummy's hand a squeeze. "Let's move on to that arm. It's looking very painful and I am allowed to set that. It might hurt a tiny bit, but it'll be so much better when I"m done." Chloe pointed her wand. "Ferula." This one worked just fine. |

Arthuria's cheeks blazed with color at the compliment "Thank you Professor!" she said feeling a surge of confidence sweep through her. She liked learning about Healing. |
Chase turned his attention towards the broken dummy in front of him. He frowned, knowing all too well what it felt like to be somewhat broken. But.. broken in a different sense. He had had broken bones before and cuts and scrapes but recently... his happiness in Hogwarts had been broken and it was getting harder and harder to keep a somewhat positive outlook here. Certainly not under Scrimmy's iron fist. SPOILER!!: textbook After finishing writing his notes, he glanced at the dummy and examined the cuts that it had. He winced when he saw a very DEEP gash on its thigh. Ooh if it had blood, it would certainly be in a life-threatening situation. "Looks like you got into an awful fight with some creature...." he muttered as he cast, "Augmenti", followed by "Ferula" on the dummy's gash. It took him two times to successfully cast the spell. "We'll come back to that gash later... First let's look for anything broken... Does anything hurt?" he asked before rolling his eyes. Spenley. You're talking to a dummy, mate. He shook his head, sighing, and then continued to inspect the dummy's body until he noticed something protruding from the dummy's arm. Was that a bone? It was almost popping out of the dummy's body. He winced at the thought. "This may hurt a little.... but bear with me..." He readied his wand. "Episkey." He heard a slight crack which made him shiver slightly but then he noticed that the bone was back in place. Eughh... The noise made that much worse. "Right..." he continued, paying no heed to that. What was next? That gash on the dummy's body? |
Quote:
So, her assistant then? He reckoned he could manage that. "Wish we had the option of a creature shaped one," he decided to finally voice aloud, figuring she of all people would get it. "Set a kneazles broken tail and stuff." Spotting another small gash in the dummy, he flourished his wand again for another Episkey to close it up. |
Five Minute Warning! Gaston beamed at Arthuria. Really, there were no thanks necessary! She'd earned every bit of the praise she got. The beam turned into a slight chuckle as he heard Christopher's reply. "Good! Glad to hear he's doing better," he said. As he meandered between the rows, he noticed Juniper making quick work of the activity. The Ravenclaw captain's kind words to the dummy earned her a small smile, a smile that grew when he saw her nonverbal spellwork. "Excellent, Miss Primeaux - or, should I say Healer Juni?" he said, beaming. "Nice use of nonverbal magic!" And Chase was doing very well too. "Nicely done, Mr. Splenley!" Elsewhere, he saw Derf making progress with Episkey, but now he seemed... stuck. Did he need help with Ferula? "Great work casting Episkey, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne!" Gaston said as he approached the Hufflepuff. He quickly noticed he looked a little... ill, but before he could ask if he needed help, Chloe offered to pair up with him. He smiled. "Thank you for helping, Miss Kettleburn! You two let me know if you need help." Any other time - as in, when Hogwarts wasn't being run by a heartless lunatic - he would've awarded points for her kindness, but now he was too afraid to risk it. Knowing Scrimgeour, he'd probably interpret it as an act of defiance or some such nonsense. He started to turn away when he overheard Derf mention a creature dummy. Say, that wasn't a bad idea! "I'll tell you what," he whispered near Derf's ear, "If you keep working on the human dummy like you have been, I'll give you a creature dummy for practice on your own. Deal?" As Gaston's blue eyes scanned the room, he saw another student struggling with Ferula. "Need some help, Mr. Thomas?" he asked, appearing at the boy's side instantly. He studied the dummy's injuries. "Ooh... broken jaw. That can be tricky to splint." He looked at the injury again. "Try holding your wand at an angle like this..." He held his wand at an angle to match the dummy's broken jaw. "See if that works." Gaston had barely finished helping the Ravenclaw prefect when he saw Skyler. His expression darkened. So that was why she wanted to be excused... now what was he going to do? He bit his lip, mentally weighing the options as his thoughts turned back to that disaster of a first day of SORE... how Scrimgeour refused to summon the healer or make exceptions for students with medical conditions. He heard he even reprimanded Foster for taking Kimi to the hospital wing! He was sure his fate would be the same, if not worse, if he let her go. He sighed sadly. "I'm sorry, Miss Queen. I'm afraid I can't let you leave class," he said, his eyes reflecting every ounce of guilt and conflict he felt. This was going against everything he believed in! "If Headmaster Scrimgeour or one of his hires happened along, it would mean trouble for us both... but we can try to take care of you here," he said. "Here, sit over there..." He summoned a chair to the vacant refreshment table, facing away from the dummies. "You won't have to look at them until you're ready." He conjured a sheet and covered her dummy's injuries. "I'll cover this guy up for now, and we can try again when you feel better. I can even change the color of the cuts so it won't look like blood. Do you think you need an anti nausea potion?" He had some in a first aid kit under his desk. "If you're still feeling ill at the end of class, I'll take you to the hospital wing myself." He was so busy tending to Skyler that he completely lost track of time. When he finally looked at his watch, there were only a few minutes remaining until they had to move on. "You have FIVE MINUTES LEFT!" he announced. OOC: We'll move on in ABOUT 30 HOURS. ^_^ |
Skyler nodded. She could handle. She peaked under the sheet after taking a few breaths. Okay. You can do this. You can do this. She sighed and took another breath as she took off the sheet. She nodded. ."I think I'm okay now sir," she said pushing through it as she looked away from the cuts and focoused on the broken bones instead. "Episkey," she said and fixed a broken ankle bone. Skyler watched as it mended it self. |
Slate took a long look at his dummy figuring out the best place to start. Might as well just start from the toes and work his way up, right? That seemed simple enough. He started with a cut on the foot. He moves his wand in a downward diagonal line and clearly said "Eh-PIS-kee." He watched as the cut healed itself and grinned. Cool. That would be useful if... he were accident prone. Which he wasn't. He next came across a broken arm. He tapped the arm of the dummy, lightly, even though lightly still looked like it hurt immensely. "Fer-ROOL-lah." he cast. Bandages snaked their way onto the arm of the dummy. Next up was a broken nose. Down diagonal and a "Episkey." later, the Slytherin made a face as the bone shifted itself back into place. This... was really unpleasant to watch. |
So they weredoing some bandaging. Lucas bit his lip as he looked at the dummy in front of him. This wasn’t good. This wasn’t good at all! He couldn’t even bandage a proper arm with his own hands, how was he going to do any better with MAGIC?! It was all a little complicated and overwhelming and he couldn’t help but feel as though he was setting himself up for disaster. Yeah. That’s what this was going to be. A disaster. He looked around him and it didn’t make him feel better to see that people were already getting started and they looked like they knew what they were doing. Look at the Head Girl, for example. She was a pro! He just watched her work, silently wondering if they had to make their dummies move as well to, uh, make this more realistic? But, then again, he was sure that would only make him feel worse. What if it screamed at him?! Looking back at his dummy, the boy frowned as he took out his wand. It was...... now or never, yeah? "Episkey. Eh-PIS-kee. Eh-PIS-kee? Eh-PIS-kee!" The chant continued for longer than he probably should’ve but, finally, he directed his wand at....... uh........ oh! This cut right here. This cut on the dummy’s arm. Yeah, that’ll do. "Episkey!" He moved his wand in a downwards diagonal motion but....... ......... nothing. "Episkey!" Still nothing. "Oh, come on! EPISKEY!" No. Well. That was..... upsetting. The frown stayed on his face as he tried to look veeeery closely to see if any part of it had healed up - to, well, make him feel better - but...... no. Nothing. Maybe he should...... try something else? Another section? Yeah. He looked over the arm, and then at the chest and then at- oh! Oh hey! This one right here. On the dummy’s cheek. This one looked small enough, didn’t it? Much smaller than before. Like a kitty scratch. "Episkey!" The smile was instant. It was the smallest of cuts but now he was watching it heal itself up until the skin looked as good as new. He even touched it gingerly, just to make sure, and the skin didn’t feel bumpy or scratchy. It felt smooth and...... a little plastic-y, which is what made him let go again. Yeah. Moving on. The next spell was probably the one he was dreading the most. Because bandages. Ferula, was it? "Ferula. Fer-ROOL-lah? Fer-ROOL-lah! Fer-ROOOOOO......" It was a long chant. He had to get this right, after all, even if both spells were very advanced and didn’t look like they should ever be performed by a first year in a dangerous situation, let alone someone like him. But he was going to get it right. Or try. Picking the arm he was working on before, Lucas gave it a slight tap with his wand and said, "Ferula!" ....... No? "Ferula!" No. He paused to give his wand a little shake before trying again, "C’mon, Ferula!" .......... Uh........ so there was a bandage. Which was..... great. Really. The dummy had a bandage around its arm so it was saved, right? But the sight of the bandage made Lucas squirm a bit more because, well, it looked like a mess. It was...... bad. Messy. He wasn’t even sure if it could hold the arm together properly and it looked like the bandage had given up trying halfway through. Not really knowing how to fix this, the first year placed his wand between his teeth and started tying a bow on the bandage. It..... wasn’t going to help but hey, at least it’ll LOOK a little better, right? |
Question 2 Gaston felt awful for not excusing Skyler! Merlin knows he didn’t want to; the sad look in his eyes reflected that. He could only hope she would understand he was saying no to protect her. The last thing she needed right now was a surprise encounter with the fearsome four (aka Scrimgeour and his minions)! He was prepared for an argument to follow, but thankfully, that didn’t happen. He breathed a silent sigh of relief; he didn't want to have to punish her (or anyone else) for what would've been completely justifiable anger! He returned her nod, giving her a small encouraging smile, but his expression turned to surprise when she said she was okay. He hadn’t expected to recover that fast… not that he wasn’t pleased, of course! Still, he kept close watch on her as she went about her work. The successful Episkey earned her a beam. “Great job, MIss Queen!” he said, and his voice dropped as he added, “I’m so proud of you for persevering!” Gaston was so busy with Skyler that it took him longer than usual to notice Lucas struggling with the spells. He crossed the room to the boy’s side, but by the time he got there, he’d already performed the spells… well, kind of. That bandage looked a bit untidy, but that was fairly normal for a first try. He smiled. “Well done, Mr. Dakest!” he said. “Don’t worry about the bandage; it’ll get tidier the more you practice. What matters is that you got it to appear and more importantly, you didn’t give up.” After a few minutes had passed, the professor checked his watch again. Wow, was that the time?! They had to be moving on. He turned around, sparing Slate a glance as he made his way back to the front of the room. “Excellent, Mr. Ryker,” he said, giving the Slytherin an approving nod as he passed. Resuming his normal place at the front of the room, Gaston addressed the class, “Time is up! If you haven’t finished, you’ll have a chance to catch up later, but we have another spell to learn first…” He gave the students a moment or two to refocus their attention on him before continuing, “There’s a reason I asked you to leave the deep gashes alone; this is because the spell we’ll use to treat them is much more difficult than the two we’ve practiced so far. That spell is…” With a wave of his wand, the writing on the blackboard vanished, all except the spell at the top of the list made earlier. “Vulnera Sanentur. As Daisy said earlier, this spell is used to treat large wounds. It was invented by Severus Snape, though it didn’t become widely used for until many years after its invention. This spell is the only known countercurse to Sectumsempra…” As he talked, the following words appeared on the backboard behind him: Quote:
OOC: You have ABOUT 24 HOURS (2:30 AM EDT Oct. 11) to answer the question. Please state only ONE effect of Vulnera Sanentur to give others a chance to answer. ^_^ |
As Professor Marchand began to mention Vulnera Sanentur, Daisy began to have little flashbacks to her time in St Mungo's yet again, much to her distress. She gave her head a quick shake to erase the image from her mind. Her hand quickly shot up in the air and when she was allowed to, Daisy answered with, "It helps to prevent death via severe loss of blood." |
Quote:
It didn't feel like long until it was time to move on, and Hanna turned her attention from the dummy to Professor Marchand. It was time for a more difficult spell. Sectumseptra was such a nasty spell. Even hearing the spell sent a cold tingle down her spine. Thank Merlin he wasn't actually casting it. But to learn the counter spell for it was very valuable too. "Vulnera Sanentur," she whispered to herself, just to say it out loud for the first time. She wrote the information down on her parchment, before having a think of the effects of the spell. Hanna thought about the mass effect of healing a very deep gash, and raised her hand. "It... it closes the wounds?" |
Jackson was not yet frustrated, as he knew he was not a Healer, but man oh man he was getting close. He had been trying to fix the broken jaw for a long enough time that Professor Marchand had come over and began helping him. He was definitely grateful, but he hoped that his frustration wasn’t taken as rudeness. He tried to imitate the angle, and he was relieved to see that it had finally worked! Alfred was looking so much better. Jackson had to admit to himself that he would have been disappointed if he hadn’t managed to keep up with the class’ progression, but luckily he was doing alright. It was time learn more about the more complicated spell, and Jackson relocated the three gashes that Alfred had. The sight of blood didn’t make him queasy or anything, but the gash itself… the layers of flesh and whatever else visible… Yea, that made him hesitate a little bit. When the question was posed, Jackson raised his hand. “Sir, I believe it slows down blood loss, right? I don’t think it can reverse the issue though, right?” That would be beneficial but that seemed extreme even for magic. That would be cool if he was proven wrong though. |
Skyler sighed with relief as he hadn't punished her. Yay. Small change. She continued her work on the dummy, biting her lip as she got to the blood. Ooy. Why? Why? ---- Then it was over with. She still hasn't finished healing her dummy, but...eh. She tried at least right? Questions....more questions...she did not no the answer but...she raised her hand. Hopefully the question wasn't too obvious. "Professor, didn't Severus Snape invent the spell that the counter curse was used for as well?" |
Sectumsempra. A spell that Natalie wished from the DEPTHS of her soul that she would never be attacked with. Not that she really had any reason to fear it. She didn't have any enemies (that she knew of) and didn't know why anyone would actually use it against her, but... still. She still hoped her life would never come to that. It was good to know the counter curse, though it almost seemed like it was a topic for defense against the dark arts. Maybe this was a "charms to fix you after the dark arts" lesson. The counter curse, Vulnera Sanentur. Natalie had obviously never had the need to use it before, but she did know a bit about it. Well, at least she thought she knew. She raised her hand. "Sir, I think it returns the blood back to the body. Doesn't it?" Maybe? Like, it healed the wound, but didn't it put the blood back first so that they person didn't die of blood loss? |
Lala been here all along! Stella shivered slightly, she never wanted to get hit by that horrible curse, it didn't sound good or pretty. But she was an first year, there was no way she could do spell that strong. She barely knew how to do the cleaning spell properly! She bit her lip thinking of the question, she knew something about it deon reading. Raising her hand she bit her lip. " Prfoessor doesn't it clear residue and begin to heal the wound?" she asked not sure. She thought she read that somewhere in her books, although she could be wrong. She had to answer right? If she didn't she'll get into trouble and she didn't want that |
At the time that the professor was walking by she looked up when he stopped and spoke to her as he always did when they were working on things. She looked up and smiled, ”Thanks Professor.” Beaming at the professor. She was quite proud of herself, not that she would ever show this. She simply smiled and turned back to her work. When she had finished she waited for the lesson to continue. Listening to the professor talk. Vulnera Sanentur. She knew the answer, but many had already said the three effects. So Juni just kept her eyes on the front of the room. While the others answered. No sense in repeating one of three answers. |
The Hufflepuff's eyes positively lit up at the prospect of having his OWN dummy to practice on. Though what made him squirm a little was that the offer had been made somewhat in secret. It was triggering in a 'this isn't really allowed but I'm going to do it anyway' kind of way. But, then again, others had received much MORE special treatment in their own academic pursuits. He wasn't asking for an entire lab to practice necromancy, for example. "Really...that would be okay?!" he asked, his tone high pitch and nervous but very very excited. Administering a few more necessary charms to his and Chloe's dummy, Derf glanced up as the professor moved things along just a little toooooooooooooooo ... Vulnera Sanentur. Another spell Derf was quite familiar with, the healer had performed it several times on him at the end of last term, and the three parts easily came to mind: that is slowed blood flow, cleaned the wound of residue, and knitted it. Though he did not lift his hand to answer as several of his classmates had already touched upon all of these. Though he was tempted to point out to Skyler that the answer to her question was written quite clearly on the board. Instead, as he tended to do when he had nothing to contribute to the answer, he asked a question. "Professor? In terms of...the relation to blood flow of a wound...what is the relation of Vulnera Sanentur to say...Tergeo?" Which was also classified as a healing spell. |
Start of Mini Activity Text Cut: Daisy Gaston was not at all surprised when once again, Daisy’s hand was the first he saw in the air. What did surprise him, however, was the shake of her head. He shot her a quick apologetic look as a fresh pang of guilt gripped his heart. If only he’d been faster that night… maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad reminder for her! He blinked, trying to force the sudden onslaught of emotion down. “Yes! Excellent, Miss Swann,” he replied with an approving nod. Text Cut: Hannah Gaston returned Hannah’s grin with a small smile of his own. No matter what else was going on with him, it always lifted his spirits to know he’d made a student smile… and smiles were becoming rarer each day under Scrimgeour’s soul=crushing regime. It was only a matter of time before he turned everyone into heartless robots like himself! With a quiet sigh, Gaston refocused his thoughts, just in time to see Hannah’s hand go up. He called on her, nodding in reply to her answer. “Very good, Miss Newton!” he said. Text Cut: Jackson & Natalie Well, this was interesting! It seemed that Jackson and Natalie had opposite thoughts on whether or not Vulnera Sanentur replenished lost blood. He gave each of them a nod in response to their answers, though he decided to address both of them at once so as not to go back over the same information. “That’s correct, Mr. Thomas,” he said. “While Vulnera Sanentur slows blood flow, it cannot replace the lost blood.” He turned to Natalie with an encouraging smile. “Still, I’m glad you brought this up, Miss McKinley,” he said. “Although the spell itself doesn’t reverse the blood loss, there’s another way to do it. After using Vulnera Sanentur, the patient should be given a blood replenishing potion.” Text Cut: Skyler Gaston kept an eye on Skyler for the rest of the activity, just in case she started to feel sick again. The sigh caught him a bit off guard. He never gave punishments lightly, only when there was absolutely no way around it. Didn’t she know that? As his eyes scanned the room for hands in the air, he saw Skyler’s and called on her. She hadn’t exactly provided an answer to the question he asked, but still she raised a good point. He nodded, both in approval and reply to her question. “Yes, Miss Queen,” he said. “Severus Snape invented both spells when he was still a student here at Hogwarts.” Text Cut: Stella So far, the students had named two effects of Vulnera Sanentur, but Gaston was still waiting to hear the third. He saw Stella’s hand go up, and… finally somebody said it! He made sure to give her an extra encouraging beam, especially when he noticed the lip biting. Unlike some of his colleagues, he wouldn’t berate a student for not having an answer, but he was especially glad that she did. “Yes, it most certainly does! Very good, Miss Starson,” he said. Text Cut: Juni Gaston beamed, nodding in reply to Juni’s thanks. “No thanks necessary, Miss Primeaux,” he said. “You certainly have a talent for healing.” Quite a few of the students did, he’d noticed. He was a little surprised when the Ravenclaw captain didn’t offer an answer to the question, but he reasoned it was because the correct answers had already been said. He gave her a quick look of acknowledgement before moving on. Text Cut: Derf Seeing Derf’s eyes light up at the offer of a creature dummy made Gaston smile more than anything that had happened in class so far today. A dummy was different from a toy, so there was no rule saying Derf couldn’t have one… at least not yet, though he wouldn’t put it past Scrimgeour to come up with one. He’d offered in (sort of) secret so the other students wouldn’t overhear and get jealous. He nodded. “I don’t see why it wouldn’t be, since it’s for educational uses,” he whispered. “Come to my office later, and bring your bag with you.” As the class moved on to the next question, he saw Derf’s hand go up… and the prefect answered his question with another question. It looked like he’d be used to that after teaching this boy for nearly six years. Gaston considered the question for a moment. His mind was formulating an answer, but first, he wanted to double-check that it was the answer Derf was looking for. “Could you elaborate please, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne?” he said. “Were you referring to the similarities and differences of the spells? Or if one is better to use for blood than the other? Or something else?” When the answers stopped coming, Gaston addressed the class once more, “Excellent job, everybody! You’ve correctly named all the effects of Vulnera Sanentur…” He waved his wand, and the following words appeared under the information already on the board: Quote:
Gaston moved to the nearest dummy, wand drawn. He traced his wand over a deep gash in the dummy’s chest and repeated, “Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur…” Gradually, the “blood” vanished, and the wound closed itself. Resuming his place at the front of the room, he went on, “Please note that in a real life situation, you must give the patient dittany immediately after casting the spell to avoid scarring.” His expression darkened as his mind wandered back to the night of the Inferi attack for what seemed like the hundredth time this class… how he’d healed his own injuries but insisted Penelope give her supplies of dittany to the injured students. Merlin, he hoped the students would have enough common sense not to ask him if that’s why he still had scars across half his face. He sighed, shaking his head to kill the memories, before looking out at the students. “You have the rest of class time to practice using Vulnera Sanentur on your dummies. Keep in mind that this is a very difficult spell to master, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t get it right on the first few tries; the important thing is that you keep trying!” OOC: We've reached the mini activity! As Gaston said, all you have to do is practice Vulnera Sanentur on the dummies. You can work alone or in groups, but everybody must attempt the spell to get full credit. If you need help or have questions, please indicate in the title of your post. Gaston and I will be checking back in periodically to answer. You have UNTIL 2:30 AM EDT Oct. 14 to do the mini activity.^_^ |
Main Activity Time Daisy retrieved her quill, ink and parchment and began to write down some notes, considering how advanced this spell was. Quote:
Picking up her wand, Daisy located a large, deep gash located on the dummy's abdomen. She took in a breath and traced the wound with her wand as she said in a sing-song like voice, "Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur." Nothing. Daisy aimed her wand closer towards the wound and repeated the wand movement and said, "Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur," just like her previous attempt. Daisy was starting to think her second attempt hadn't worked when slowly the grime and blood vanished and the wound closed up. |
Main activity and phone post sorry for typos Taking notes, Stella wrote in her notebook the name of the spell and who it was invented by including the effects of it. This was a advance spell, and she was only a first year she doubt she was going to master this spell. Quote:
Looking at her notes she read them over and over memorizing the pronunciation of the spell and reading over the wand movements. She didn't do the wand movements quite yet with her wand she wanted to get the pronunciation and the spell right before she did. "Ok... lets see if I can say this." she said under her breath. " VULN- eh rah Sah-NEN-tour wait...that isn't right, let's try this again Stella VUL-neh-rah Sah-NEN-tour, VUL-neh-rah Sah-NEN-tour, ok... now Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur." she said to herself. Proud that she was able to say the spell right, she wondered if it would work on the dummy as well as she said it to herself. Her wand in her hand she walked up to one that had a deep gash across the shoulder. Biting her lip she trace the wound with her wand saying in a sing-song voice. "Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur." Looking at the wound she frowned when she seen that nothing what so ever happened to the wound. Ok... that's was ok, it was the first time she casted this spell so she couldn't be perfect and get it on the first try. Hm...what did she do wrong? Well... she was a bit nervous maybe her hand was a bit shaky. "Deep breath Stella, just relax." she told herself. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath calming her nerves before opening her eyes and raising her wand up again. In a clear sing-song voice and steady arm movements she repeated. "Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur." Looking at the wound she seen once again it didn't budge or she so she thought. Ok... it looked like it worked some, the wound did seem smaller maybe it was just her imagination. Ok...she wasn't going to give up, she was going to get this right! |
Five Minute Warning! As the class set about their new activity, Gaston forced himself away from his place at the front of the room. His leg was starting to ache from his rounds up and down the rows, but wandering the room was the only way for him to monitor the students, as half the class was on his blind side at any given time. Inwardly cursing his blindness, he continued weaving between the rows, his cane thudding dully against the floor as he went. He stopped beside Daisy's desk and saw her try and fail to cast the spell. He took a deep breath in as she tried again, silently hoping her next try would go better. A warm smile spread across his face upon seeing the residue vanish and the wound close. "Well done, Miss Swann!" he said. Elsewhere, he saw another student struggling and rushed to Stella's side. "Nice start, Miss Starson," he said, examining her work. She was pronouncing the incantation correctly, and she had the wand movement down... so what advice could he give her. "You're on the right track, but your rhythm's a tad off. Try saying the spell a little slower, and see if that helps." He gave her an encouraging smile before turning away. Gaston glanced at his watch. Class was almost over. He sighed; how he wish he had a time turner to make the class last longer! But that wasn't possible. "FIVE MINUTES LEFT!" he announced. OOC: Sorry I wan't able to post sooner... RL happened. >_< Anyway, you have JUST UNDER 30 HOURS left to finish the activity. ^_^ |
Quote:
Five minutes left, Yikes! Where did the time go that this class went by so quickly? Although there was only five minutes left in class, that didn't stop her from wanting to get this spell right! She wasn't going to give up until this wound on the dummy's shoulder was gone. Looking at it she seen that it was still there only slightly smaller then before, she can do this just need to focus and let the magic do the work. She could do this, this wound wasn't going to beat her! Hearing Professor Marchand's words and encouraging smile she nodded. Now that she thought about it, she probably was saying it a bit too quick, maybe she should slow it down. " Ok... Stella just like singing a nice and slow song." she said to herself. Taking a deep breath she traced the wound with her wand and in a slow sing-song voice. "Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur." she said. Looking at the wound she frowned as she seen nothing happening, just as she let out a small sigh, the grime and blood started to vanish and the wound was slowly starting to close. Did she do it, did she legitimately do a advance spell right? Seeing the wound close up she smiled happily to herself and let out a little squeal of happiness. She did it! She did it! " Guess the third time is charm!" she said giggling to herself at her little joke seeing how she was in Charms. Get it, Third time is a Charm and she's in Charms? Don't get it? Ok...maybe it's just a mind of a innocent little first year that thought it was funny. |
When he was finished scribbling down all sorts of detailed notes on all the different healing charms, Max rolled up his sleeves ready to give the latest one a go on his dummy. He’d practiced a lot of charms, but never this one so he was raring to go and Professor Marchand saying that it was a very difficult spell to master only made him want to ace it first time even more. The dummy had a large, deep looking gash across its chest and Max carefully traced his wand over the wound while saying the incantation. “Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur!” He didn’t do it in the same sing-song voice he heard some of his classmates doing it because he didn’t want to sound like a complete idiot. …… maybe that’s why the charm didn’t work and nothing happened. |
Derf felt light, lighter than he had in a while, at this offer. Especially in light of Professor Wayland being...dismissed - a betrayal and heartache of sorts the Hufflepuff still hadn't been able to deal with - he wasn't sure what to do about his future in magizoology...and he was honestly scared to go down to the creatures area and seek the new bloke's expertise. "Will do for sure, professor," he chirped with an enthusiastic nod before settling back into the task at hand. "Um...sorta all encompassing, professor," he began with a bit of a ruffle to his hair. "Tergeo siphons blood while Vulnera Sanentur slows the flow...so I suppose one could use Vulnera Sanentur first to try and quickly repair damage to tissue and stuff and then Tergeo to clean up a bit?" He wasn't entirely sure where he himself was going with this to be honest and his thoughts were jumping from one to the other a little rapidly before finishing. "Reckon I'm sorta asking all of the above...and the benefits of using one over the other in situations...or in conjunction to one another?" Yeah, okay. That was a whole lot of...something. He offered the Charms professor a bit of an apologetic look because it was getting a bit off track while also somewhat being on topic? Ish. Anywaaaaaay...he was going to focus on the charm, primarily the incantation seeing as it was unique in that it required a sort of rhythm to be done correctly. Not just intonation and pronunciation, but sorta like how the Hufflepuff barrels worked. Smiling to himself, he spoke the incantation to himself a few times - and actually sang it in an almost lullaby tone. "Vulnera Sanentur...Vulnera Sanentur...Vulnera Sanentur...." Wandwork would come once he felt confident enough in his healing song. |
Time's up! Gaston smiled a little, returning Derf's nod with one of his own, though the moment didn't last long. His mind quickly switched gears as the Hufflepuff explained his question in more detail. Now he had a better idea of what kind of answer to give. He nodded, considering the boy's words. "Yes, one could do that," he said, "though it usually isn't necessary to use Tergeo after using Vulnera Sanentur. Part of Vulnera Sanentur's effect is that it cleans the residue from the wounded area. Only in extreme cases where you have a wound covered in something other than blood - dirt, slime, something like that - would you need to use Tergeo. That's the main difference in the two spells; Tergeo siphons away any liquid, while Vulnera Sanentur deals primarily with blood. You'll see Tergeo come into play as a healing spell mostly for minor cuts and injuries that don't call for a strong spell like Vulnera Sanentur." Wow, that was long! He hoped that explanation answered Derf's questions; if not, they could always discuss it more later when he came to pick up his creature dummy. As the black-haired Frenchman meandered between the rows, his eyes once again landed on the Hufflepuff. "Good job, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne," he said, watching him practice the incantation. "I like how you're saying the spell like a lullaby." Elsewhere, he saw Maxton unsuccessfully attempt the spell. No matter, that was to be expected. He offered an encouraging smile and some helpful advice. "You're on the right track, Mr. Carden ," he said. "Your pronunciation and wand movement are spot on; try saying it a bit more like a song." A sudden squeal caused Gaston's head to whip around in the opposite direction. His eyes widened with concern for a split second, then just as quickly lit up at the sight of Stella's smile. So that was a squeal of joy... thank Merlin! "Congratulations, Miss Starson!" he said, beaming. "I knew you could do it!" The joke got a slight chuckle from him. Of course, he'd heard it a thousand times before - hazard of the occupation - and he wasn't in much of a giggly mood, but it seemed unkind not to laugh at all! He checked his watch again. "TIME IS UP!" he announced. He made his way back to the front of the room and all but collapsed into his chair; wandering around the room for most of the class was exhausting! After giving the students a few moments to find a stopping place, he went on, "Well done, all if you! I'm pleased with your progress today. Class is dismissed." OOC: That's all, folks! :P I gave you a few extra hours for the activity, but we need to wrap up. I'll leave the thread open another 24ish HOURS for those who want to post their charries leaving. ^_^ |
Catch up Juni spent the last of the lesson, beaming and grinning to herself. Of course she was keeping it to herself. As she took notes now on vulnera sanentur. She sat her quill down and watched as professor Marchand showed them how to do the spell. It was a pretty nifty spell, if you ever need it. Her dummy had three big and deep cuts on it. Two it’s side and one on its leg just above where the bandages were. There was no way that she would even try to attempt it nonverbally. Checking over her notes again before picking up her wand. ”Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur.” As she traced the first wound on the dummy’s side. She slowly and carefully traced the wound and repeated the incantation three times. It was weird to watch the wounds heal. In fact at least it wasn’t as gross as seeing it open. Next she moved to the next would on the other side. Still choosing not to perform the spell nonverbally. ”Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur.” Again she slowly traced the wound with her wand as it healed itself. Hearing the professor say that here were five minutes left. She quickly moved to the last wound on the leg of the dummy. ”Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur, Vulnera Sanentur.” Tracing the wound as she did the other two wounds. She watched the wound heal, luckily she had just gotten finished up in just in time. She packed up her things, and got ready to leave. Nodding to the professor as she passed. ’Thanks for the really good lesson professor.” The lesson had been really good. It definitely made her think more into being healer now. |
Pausing, Derf listened keenly as Professor Marchand readdressed his initial inquiry and nodded along while reaching for his piece of parchment and quill to scribble down a few additional notes. "Thanks, that makes a whole load of sense," he nodded with another eager grin. And he appreciated the encouragement in his spellwork, or the potential spellwork, but he was apprehensive about the actual execution of it. This was ALWAYS where things fell apart, even with his best of intentions. He did give the wand movement a few trials before attempting to put the two together, with minor results over the selected wound. It closed a little bit and the surrounding area seemed a bit more clean....so all in all not a terrible first attempt but not nearly enough to be consider satisfactory. But still, not a complete failure! A couple of tries later and class was dismissed. Quickly packing up his things, Derf approached the Charms professor. Since he had buisness with the man anyway... "Need some help with these dummies, professor?" Likely not considering it was easy enough to levitate them or banish them to their desired location...but he was an eager cruppy here in anticipation of his own dummy to work on. |
Quick phone post to wrap up As Gaston watched his students finishing up, he saw Juni pick up on Vilnera Sanentur remarkably quickly. He beamed. Somehow he had a feeling she would master that spell quicker than most... she'd already shown her talent for healing! "Excellent work, Miss Primeaux!" he said, smiling slightly as she finished her work and packed up. He returned her nod, and his smile grew wider at her words. "You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it!" Derf also made excellent progress. From where he stood, Gaston could see the Hufflepuff move on to practicing the wand movement, then try to put the incantation with the movement. He saw the attempt had been moderately successful; the area looked cleaner and the wound closed a bit. That was certainly a good start! "Very good, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne," he said, beaming. "Practice makes perfect." And hopefully the creature dummy would give him lots of incentive to practice! Speaking of which, Gaston couldn't help but notice how eager the Hufflepuff prefect seemed. He'd have to be blind not to - or at least blind in both eyes! Not that he could blame him, of course. The offer for help got a slight smile from him, though he shook his head. "That's very kind of you, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne," he said, "but I can manage. We can't have you arriving late to your next class." Particularly if that class was taught by Scrimgeour or one of his minions! "Stop by my office this afternoon, and I'll have your dummy ready for you." OOC: Closing the thread a few hours early because I feel sick and may not be awake at the scheduled time. >_< Thank you so much for participating! :D |
