Curse Duel #1 - { Benzi Rider } & Evangeline Shacklebolt Quote:
Quote:
Welcome to your first duel. This is the first step of determining your standing in the Curse Tournament, and more importantly, discovering who you are as a dueler. Each dueler is expected to adhere to all DADA Classroom rules, Dueling Club Rules and SS site rules. Spells may be used from the following List. Any spells on this list are not permitted unless approval has been granted. Physical actions and their costs can be found below: NOTE: Fatigue points ONLY need to be used when you are physically attacking someone, or avoiding a spell. All other maneuverings around the hall do not need to be accounted for. Text Cut: Cost of Physical Actions -------------------------------------- A referee (Professor Flamsteed or Dakest) will be assigned to your duel and present. They will only interfere if there is need, including foul play, serious injury or unacceptable or illogical use of spells. Remember to... Display etiquette. Maintain respect. Exhibit integrity. Demonstrate skill. Find ingenuity. Use cunning. Maintain strength. Good luck -------------------------------------- OOC: Each duel must be completed by no later than October 24, midnight GMT-6 (OOC). Remember that a duel ends when one dueler has lost ALL magic or ALL health points. Please make duels a minimum of 3 posts each. These first duels will be a trail run of sorts. The point system for the spells and physical actions was done by thought and hasn't been tested. You all are the guinea pigs. Let me know how it goes :) If you find that there are be difficulties in the weight of points, please let me know. If there are spells missing you think should be included, please let me know. If you have questions, please ask. Also, if for some reason you cannot complete or start your duel, please let both me and your partner know. We will work something out. Remember: duelers MUST keep track of their own points as they go. At the top of their post (in the tag line) they must include their current standing of points, as they are at the BEGINNING of that post. At the bottom of their post, they must include a 'spoiler' tag, including the spells which they've cast (and the directionallity of the spell, so the opponent can easily reference the potential damage to themselves), the spell(s) that have affected them (if any) and their own final Point Standing for that post. |
h: 400 m: 700 f: 25 Benzi was ready. He'd spent the morning running, then the rest of the day not thinking about this at all until they walked through the doors of the dueling club. They'd laughed about it, said Dakest must have a sick sense of humour, then didn't talk about it too much. He wasn't sure what was going to happen, but he did know that whatever would happen he was going to match his efforts to hers. He didn't want to hurt her, after all. Looking up at the stands - seemingly empty but he knew people were watching - he nodded to himself then moved to give Evie a kiss on the cheek. "Good luck," the Prefect smiled, then walked away to the opposite side of the dueling arena, and bowed as they had been told to do. Rolling his wand in his hands, Benzi relaxed his shoulders and breathed out, fine tuned onto Evie and her movements. He was going to let her go first, a shield charm ready on his lips. He knew Evie wasn't an easy opponent but this way, he'd at least be able to block the first spell. Perhaps he could hop away from the second. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 700 f:30 Honestly, she wasn't surprised. Her first duel and Dakest paired her up with her boyfriend. It was a test, obviously. A test for Dakest to see how the two of them do dueling against the person they care about. Would they goof off, would they not take it seriously, would they go easy on each other? The answer to all of those, of course, was no. Evie was taking this duel very seriously. She would NOT go easy on her boyfriend and she expected him to do the same. Today, for this moment, Benzi was not her boyfriend. She was her opponent and she was going to kick his BUTT. Dueling uniform on and wand in hand, Evie made her way into the room with Benzi. She was amused by the kiss and the wish of luck. "Same to you," she replied. "You'll need it." Then she flashed him a teasing smirk before taking her stand on the other side. She took a deep breath, making eye contact with Benzi and bowed forward, as was custom and polite, and whatever. Wand in front of her, she tuned into his movements, aware of every twitch and sigh he made. "Everte Statum," she muttered quickly with a jab of her wand and a orange string of light flew towards Benzi. Not even half a second later, her wand hand twitched again and she sent a nonverbal disarming spell after him, too. SPOILER!!: Points Tracker |
h: 400 m: 700 f: 25 "You'll need it." Pfft. That got her an eyeroll and a smirk. He didn't want to hurt her, but Evie please. He's been training for this stuff for years and years. Honest to merlin, around four and a half years now. If there had been one good thing about the smaller school in London, was that it had been very simple to bully his teachers into teaching him what he'd wanted to know. But, not time to reminisce because her muscles had tensed and her mouth began moving which meant a spell was coming. And most probably a second one soon after, since that's what he would have done. Almost on autopilot, Benzi cast "Protego!" before the orange flash had even left her wand and ducked a second later, feeling the whoosh of the second spell - red, so she'd meant to disarm him? - as it flew juuuust over his head. Close one, that. Without wasting time to get up, the seventh year pointed his wand up at Evie's head. He muttered "Manus Invisibilis" and at the last second moved his wand down to point her arm, taking great care to be precise about where the spell would hit. He then quickly rose to his feet and assumed the dueling stance that had become second nature, never taking his eyes off of her. ... This was going to be fun. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 645 f:30 He was quick, unfortunately. They were both quick and they both knew each other too well, which made the duel a bit predictable. But it was still intense. Evie's heart was already beating faster from the excitement and the rising adrenaline. Her brown eyes followed Benzi's movements carefully. "Protego!" she said as soon as she saw him aim for her head. The spell would have worked if that was where he had actually aimed, but a half a second later, the spell was heading towards her wand arm. Evie quickly raised her arm and side-stepped out of the way, narrowly missing his spell. That had also been a close one. She didn't let that distract her. Without hesitating, Evie shot her wand up towards the ceiling, several feet away from Benzi. "Bombarda!" she shouted and caused a small explosion, sending chunks of the ceiling flying outward and down, hopefully causing a distraction for her opponent. Evie remained where she was, far enough away from the explosion to be affected. "Muffliato," she cast half a second later towards Benzi, hopefully filling his ears with an annoying buzzing sound. Still without hesitation, on a roll with her spell-casting, Evie mouthed a word and twisted her wand towards Benzi, but the Revulsion Jinx came a second later, non-verbally, and shot towards the boy's wand. SPOILER!!: Points Tracker |
Still working out the kinks. Here are two important spell updates. If you have already used these spells, don't worry about them, please still follow through as per the previous guidelines/point systems for the spells. If you haven't, and are considering them, these are the new rules for Expelliarmus and Stupefy. See the Q & A thread for more details :) SPOILER!!: Expelliarmus After Blaise Bellaire was knocked-out with a stupefy spell, it has been banned from the club. Reason for this is that the Tournament Duels are supposed to help students practice dueling, and having a K/O isn't the best way to do this. Therefore, Stupefy will be a spell permitted only in practice sessions and Challenges, as per the new point system: SPOILER!!: Stupefy (NO longer permitted in tournaments) |
h: 400 m: 640 f: 20 And there was that shield charm. He expected another attack at him and widened his eyes when Evie pointed at the ceiling instead. Realising exactly what she was going to do a second before the incantation left her lips, Benzi took in a sharp breath as he jumped back as the shards fell, walking backwards to avoid turning his gaze from her. Rule #1 in a duel, don't ever take your eyes off an opponent. Or at least that's what he'd adopted. Aware that any moment his skull could be bashed in with a piece of ceiling, his attention was divided and he watched her cast a spell but his shield charm came too late. His ears were already buzzing as he cast "Protego!" again, which is exactly when three things happened in very quick succession. One: the final piece of ceiling fell RIGHT in front of his face, startling him off balance, two: he felt his shield charm block something else she'd cast at him and fizzle out of existence, and three: he stumbled and fell rather heavily onto his butt. Very graceful. Rather painful. And that BUZZING. Ugh. Wasting no time since there was no telling when she'd stop her attack, Benzi jumped into a crouch, using the large pieces of rock as a partial shield. Gritting his teeth, he cast "Obscuro", a relatively easy charm murmured under his breath because dear MERLIN this buzzing would not let him do anything nonverbal. While the spell was still on its way to her he cast "Finite" on himself, not stopping to savour the silence as he immediately shot a second spell, a nonverbal "Petrificus Totalus!" headed directly for the centre of her chest. Ahh, blessed silence. ... Did she really just collapse the ceiling on him? Really Evie? Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 520 f: 25 Yes, she really did just collapse the ceiling on him. She was glad that none of them actually hit him, since that wasn't her goal. Evie wasn't sure if Benzi would forgive her for that... At least not soon. Ah well. The distraction had worked. Evie could tell that the Muffliato charm had worked (the look on his face made it clear). But her other spell had hit too soon and he still managed to block it, even though she could tell he didn't mean to. Damn. Her eyes were on him every moment as he crouched behind a chunk of ceiling. "Protego," she cast lazily at the blindfold charm, sending the blindfold fluttering to the ground. Seeing his wand hand twitch, Evie verbally cast the shield charm again, deflecting the spell back to him. Would either of them ever win? Not a second later, Evie muttered another spell. "Fumos," she whispered, swishing her wand upward then flicking it back down. Dark clouds of smoke suddenly filled the room, blocking the view of the both of them. A nice trick she had learned from a certain professor While she was hiding, Evie verbally (whispering) cast the Gemino curse on herself, something she had been practicing in private, and created an exact replica of herself. "Is that the best you've got, Benjamin?" she shouted through the clouds of smoke. She left clone!Evie there and quietly tiptoed off to the side, careful not to trip over or step on any ceiling remnants on the floor. Ten feet away from the last, Evie repeated the spell and created another copy of herself and then continued silently traveling around the room. It was hard to see, but if Benzi hadn't moved far, she was sure that she was now several feet behind him.... Waiting. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 395, m: 475, f: 15 Casting away his spells as if he were nothing, and protecting himself against his own spell with an instant "Protego" Benzi's eyes narrowed. She was definitely quicker than he'd anticipated. He was prepared for another onslaught of spells when she cast Fumos instead effectively making them both invisible. This meant that she was up to something she didn't want him to see, and that she was probably moving about. If she wasn't, it would be a waste of a spell. The verbal taunting meant that she thought she could get the better of him. Well. Instantly stepping to the side in case of an incoming spell, Benzi was about to tap his head with his wand when he had an idea. Under his breath, the Prefect summoned his sister's broom from the dungeons, knowing it would get to him in seconds. He kept his ears peeled for any sound of her but could hear nothing but faint steps and a swoosh as the broom entered the arena. Holding his hand out, it clasped around the broom and he quietly climbed on it. Only then did Benzi tap his own head and mumble a disillusionment charm, making him and his broom very much invisible. Kicking off silently from the ground, he rose slowly until he was very close to the hole she'd blasted in the ceiling and hovered. There, he took deep breaths and studiously IGNORED the distance to the ground below. Stupid heights. Hated heights. Hand gripping his broom tightly, Benzi waited for the smoke to clear out. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 320 f: 25 There were now three Evie's in the arena, two of which were fake, but all three were believable. Her ears were perked up, listening for any sounds Benzi was making. She heard only a whisper and a few moments later, she felt a brush of air whip past her as an object flew into the room right past where she was standing. The smoke made it hard to see, but she was almost certain she knew what he had summoned. As the smoke started to fade, Evie's eyes scanned not only the floor, but the air. All three Evie's looked up and around, but saw no sign of Benzi. He had taken advantage of the smoke, which she had assumed he would. "Homenum Revelio," she cast, wand towards the room in general. Oh, Beeeeenziiiiii. Come out, come out, wherever you aaaaare. Come play with your THREE GIRLFRIENDS. No boy could say no to that. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 395, m: 405, f: 15 The smoke was clearing... Hang on. Three Evie's?? Mind working a mile a minute, the smoke was almost all gone by the time he'd come up with an idea. Or at least, come up with a way to stall for time until he could think of something better. Flying directly inside the hole in the ceiling, Benzi started working on the armour. Luckily for him, his face was dark and most of the armour was as well, so it didn't take much effort. Three murmured "Multicorfors" and he looked like the human version of a ceiling cave in. Quickly securing his wand between his fingers, Benzi used his arms to lean on the broom as he took his legs off and placed them against the inside of the hole. Balancing solely on one arm now, the prefect prayed to Merlin that this would work, and cast "Colloshoo" on his feet, grinning widely when they stuck. Only wisps of the smoke were left as he leaned his free arm against the inside of the hole, broom safely tucked away so not to draw attention to himself. He could see Evie was looking up. Well, all three of her. He quickly decided he much preferred it with one Evie in the world, three was a bit creepy. Now, how to tell them apart. Squinting, just in case she'd look up and perhaps see the whites of his eyes, Benzi took a moment to think. The one directly underneath him would be the most obvious one for him to attack because she'd have come up behind him. But it could also be the one off on the side if she was double-tricking him. Either way, he had no interest in giving away his location. For all she knew he could be on the ground somewhere having blocked her detection spell cast a second disillusionment charm or something. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 295 f: 25 The smoke was fading and all three pairs of Evie's eyes were searching the room for any sign of Benzi. She thought she saw movement up above, but when her eyes looked toward the ceiling, she saw nothing but a dark hole. Reason, however, told her that that hole in the ceiling was her best bet. If that really was a broom she saw whizzing past her into the room, Benzi could be up there, disguised again. Which made her remember that Benzi was deathly afraid of heights. What could she do to increase that fear even more? Honestly, she just wanted to win. Come on, Benz. Getting her mind in the right place, Evie had one of her duplicates raise their wand towards the ceiling, near the hole she had created earlier. "Incendio," the clone said (which was still weird to see and hear, even though she had practiced it before). A jet a fire was conjured from the wand and soon the ceiling started to catch fire, spreading in all directions. Surely Dakest wouldn't mind, right? He could fix it. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 385, m: 385, f: 15 Benzi wasn't sure at what moment he knew he was in trouble but a second before the fire charm left one of Evie's lips - still so weird - he knew he needed to move. Shooting out his wand he did away with trying to keep his cover because clearly it was blown and he grabbed his broom then cast three charms one after the other. First, he quickly mumbled the extinguishing spell to prevent the fire from scorching his face off, then "Finite" on his shoes. Broom underneath him, he stuck his wand inside one of the gaps in the hole and cast "Bombarda!" and flew away, allowing the pieces to rain own on the Evie that had been below him. Adrenaline pumping in his veins helped him think quicker than usual and he came to a conclusion almost intantly. The Evie in the original spot would not be Evie, she wouldn't be too obvious. And the second Evie had just shot a spell at him, which meant that the real Evie was most likely under the falling debris right about now. Call it simple intuition or stupidity, he was going with his gut. Aiming for her as he couldn't afford to start hitting them all, he murmured the incantations "Expelliarmus, Confundno," directly at her person, instantly zooming up and away to avoid any spells being hurled his way. He'd feel bad for making rocks rain down on her, but really it served her right for trying to turn him in shishkebab. So there. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 400 m: 270 f: 25 Well, that part had been a bit unexpected. Evie's fire spell quickly halted when she heard the B-WORD come from Benzi's mouth, wherever he was. He must have figured out which Evie was real, either that or he was lucky, because a second later, She was running out of the way, trying not to get hit by falling ceiling bits. As she was booking it away from the falling ceiling, found Benzi above, flying away from the falling ceiling. A spell was coming towards her, so Evie quickly shouted out "Protego," and blocked herself from it. The next second, she felt a crushing weight on her shoulder that suddenly brought her to her knees, right as another spell whizzed above her head. Slightly dazed, she saw a good sized chunk of ceiling fall right beside her. Ah. Shoulder. Ceiling. Ow. Evie shook herself and looked back up, quite a bit MAD at a certain boy for possibly dislocating her shoulder. Without moving herself, Evie glared at Benzi but mentally focused on her clones. From one side, a clone shot a Conjunctivitis curse as the other shot the Seize and Pull charm, hoping to capture the boy and pull him off his broom. And lastly, the real Evie, using her good arm (which was, luckily, her wand arm), shot out: "Descendo!" And if Evie could have shot FIRE out of her eyes, SHE'D BE DOING IT. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 385, m: 270, f: 15 Away he flew, upwards towards the ruined ceiling - he dearly hoped Dakest wouldn't make them clear this place up, that would take ages - and kept his eyes peeled between the three Evie's, taking in the real Evie as she fell. Yes, that was definitely the real Evie, a clone would not have reacted like that. Which meant that the other two were about to cast at him. Zooming downwards, he narrowly avoided the rope but got hit full on with... oh, gods, he was BLIND. Or at the very least there was swelling and watering and was he CRYING??? EVANGELINE SHACKLEBOLT. Wiping away the excess moisture and focusing on not falling, he was too late to block Original Evie's spell and down he went, zooming towards the ground, reenacting his very worst fears of PLUMMETING TO HIS DEATH. He needed to get a grip. A GRIP. NOW BENZI. GET IT TOGETHER. Reaching his wand out, he squinted and cast a cushioning charm at the ground, landing ungracefully but at least without breaking anything He was very down for ending this. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 350 m: 215 f: 20 Evie was pleased to see that a couple of her spells at worked, and secretly she was glad that he hadn't plummeted to his death. Dead boyfriends were... not good. Heat of the moment, you know. It seemed like a good idea. Something else that seemed like a good idea was getting her friggin SHOULDER BACK INTO ITS SOCKET. Evie clutched her bad arm to her side, still on her knees as she watched Benzi running and rolling around and entrapping her clones with ropes. Seconds later, her clones shattered into pieces and disappeared in thin air. Which kinda meant she was screwed. Her eyes went back to Benzi. She raised her wand to attack, but he beat her to it. A defense charm was on her tongue, but as soon as she saw him point his wand at the floor, Evie dove to the side and rolled away as far as she could, but right as she did so, she knew it was over. The second spell left Benzi's mouth too quickly and Evie was in no position (literally) to cast a protection charm. But still, she tried. "Prote--!" Too late. She felt her wand being pulled from her hand before the spell even went through and her stomach dropped when it disappeared from her grip. She stopped her dive just inches from the little sinkhole he created and stared at Benzi, her heart pounding and her face red. She was tired, her shoulder hurt and now Benzi had her wand, so basically her life was ending. This was it. GAME OVER. NO AUROR JOB. HOMELESS FOREVER. "You look hideous," she said between heavy breaths. Really, he did. Could he even see right now? Where did his eyeballs go? Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 355, m: 165, f: 6.25 What was that sound..? Backing up, still not taking his eyes off of Evie, he caught sight of the wisps of dust where Evie's clones used to be and swallowed before facing her fully once again. He was kind of glad he hadn't seen her disappear into thin air, twice. Would have messed with his brain. Real Evie wasn't doing so great either. Alive and breathing, but on the ground and looking to be very much in pain and upset. He winced at the look of her bad shoulder, wand still raised because there was a Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H: 350 m: 161.25 f: 15 She was expecting it. She was accepting it. But she was not giving up. She knew the rules, that someone in a body bind could end the duel themselves, but that was giving up and giving up was not something Evie did. So she was going to sit there on her knees and she was going to wait and she was going to watch Benzi and take every spell he could throw at her. She knew he wouldn't hurt her, not even in a duel he wanted to win. If she was going down, she was going down HER way. A full-body bind was not something she had ever experienced before. It was not pleasant, but it wasn't as restricting as she thought it would be. She could still breathe, thankfully, and that's all she really cared about. Her eyes were still on Benzi as she sat there frozen, waiting for the next spell. What would it be? Text Cut: Points Tracker |
h: 355, m: 65, f: 6.25 Benzi watched solemnly as Evie's limbs froze up, squinting through his watering eyes as best as he could. What was he supposed to do now? He had her wand, she was literally incapable of any sort of movement unless she was going to pull a Merlin on them and do some wandless, nonverbal magic. A normal person would give up, but he could see it in her eyes, she wasn't having it. But he couldn't. He wouldn't. He could not shoot spell after spell at her. What would be the point? In a real life situation, this would be the end. He'd freeze the person up, take their wand and be done with it. He wouldn't torment them until they passed out, and he wouldn't do that to Evie. It would be horrible, he couldn't do it. Especially if she'd be silently looking at him the entire time. Instead, Benzi mumbled "Incarcerous" and watched as roped flew out of his wand for the third time this afternoon. There. That's all he was going to do. He would not burn her alive or toss her around or anything like that. He refused. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
Perhaps it was a good thing that as soon as Rider cast the next spell, the gong of the grandfather clock tolled. The shield wall rose between the two duelers, blocking the rope spell with a pop and a fizzle. The wall shimmered for a moment before breaking apart into glittering light that dropped among the two students. Sabel walked through it, casting a quick finite at both students to relieve them of their respective spells. He didn't speak for a moment, considering them each for a long, drawing moment. There were things he was interested in saying, but perhaps here, in front of the crowd sure to be watching, was not the time. Instead, he cast the gold light out over Benzi's head. "Winner of the duel, Benzi Rider. Congratulations." His gaze took in Shacklebolt. "And a job well done to the both of you." OOC: Thanks so much for dueling! It was an awesome read! Duel is now officially over. I will have next pairs up by the end of the Second Meeting :) |
