Bay was looking around at all the students making their awesome boats. Looking down at his boat it looked horrible. He needed help and fast [i]" thanks mom.."[/b] he thought while looking for someone to help him. |

He Reverted the rope back to vine. "Vinea Funiculus!" Point. "Vinea Funiculus!" Point! "Vinea Funiculus!" Point. Nothing what so ever! Cue more concentration! "Vinea Funiculus!" Point! The vine transformed itself into rope! Greeeaat! |
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand the moment had passed. Tobias had done as much silent reveling as he'd needed, and was now anxious to get back into boat-transfiguring action. The boy took a moment to write more in his notes, including a few hints and tips that would help him remember how he managed the spells the first time, should he come up against the difficulty of not being able to do it again. Then he got back to work. "Reverto." With such an easy, simplistic spell, the tiny boat that Tobias had been so proud of was gone, and the chunk of wood remained. It made sense that 'reverto' was the easiest transfiguration spell. In Toby's mind, a transfiguration was only temporary, with the spell both creating the change and becoming a membrane which held the transfigured object back from turning to what it was originally. Then reverto lifted that membrane and it slipped back easily. This was most probably an incorrect idea, and Tobias kind of knew it. It had just come about from his early transfiguration attempts when the objects he'd cast on would just change back in a matter of moments. BUT Toby didn't want to start thinking about all the ins and outs of the spells until he was on his own time again. The boy had boats to make. He cleared his throat, held up his wand and sat up in his chair a little bit. And imagined a boat. Imagined it as vividly as he could. Willed the boat into existence as he cast. "Lignum Navicula!" This time, Tobias had his eyes open, so he actually got to see it morph and transform. The Hufflepuff watched in awe as the wooden block stretched out and smoothed and molded into shape. A boat shape. An actual tiny boat. This one was even better than the last one. Tobias was improving. He took a moment to admire the perfectly stolid and definitely-a-boat rowboat, before setting it down again. "Reverto." Back to a block of wood with you! No time to celebrate; Tobias was all about practicing this spell until he was about as close to perfect as he could get. |

Caleb was still struggling with this boat thing, but after a few trials and errors, he was pretty sure he got the hang of it. At least to the point where he could make something that didn't look like it would collapse the second he stepped on it. "Lignum Navicula!" he exclaimed once more, tapping his wand to the board and waiting to see what happened. At first, nothing was happening, but then, very suddenly, he saw the wood start to twist and turn much faster than it had in any other try at the spell. He grinned as a boat formed in front of him and he completed it successfully. AWESOME! |

"Lignum navicula!" she said, determined to get it right this time. To her surprise, the wood before her turned into what appeared to be something that Muggles called a canoe. "Hey, I did it! This is a...er...canoe, isn't it?" Without waiting for an answer, she grabbed the vine, took another deep breath, then murmured the spell to turn the vine into a rope. This time was more difficult; she hadn't made much of a difference in the vine at all. "Okay. Relax. Just practice this." she murmured to herself. "Just practice." |
SPOILER!!: Elisabetta Sander smiled and cheered softly when Elisabetta was successful changing her piece of wood into a boat. Now she was trying to transform the vine into a rope. "Yes Elisabetta. This time the incantation is Vinea Funiculus. Just point at the rope when you're ready to cast the spell. Picture the rope in your mind. As you cast the spell concentrate on making that vine into the rope you are seeing in your mind. You can do this. " Sander whispered to her encouragingly. |
Pleased with his progress, Adi turned to his boat and Reverted it back to wood. This spell was the harder of the two for him so he'd have to focus extra for this. Just like Tessa explained to him. He pictured the boat he had transfigured before in his mind. "Lignum Navicula!" He tapped the wood. Still wood. "Lignum Navicula!" Tap! The wood firmly remained wood. "Lignum Navicula!" Tap! Nothing. "Lignum Navicula!" Tap! Still nothing. Adi frowned at the wood. Come on! Let's get a boat here! |

"You're gloating. It's very unattractive." Mo frowned and jabbed his wand at the little wooden boat. "Reverto." The boat flattened out into that plain chunk of wood again, and again Mo jabbed his wand and uttered the incantation. "Lignum Navicula" See that, Alice? See that? He had a little boat again. Mo put it on his head, upside down, so she could see. First try. |

She WAS, wasn't she? "Reverto." Her boat went back to normal, and the seventh year almost immediately got started on transfiguring it, just to show Mo how excellent she was. "Lignum Navicula." And after her simple tap yielded a perfectly shaped boat, she stuck it on her head too, just so he could see how much more attractive it was on her. Envy her, desert plant. |

Laura then smiled as she looked at the boy. "Now you need to practice the spell Lignum Navicula." Laura thought about what to say next. "If you need too, then you can break it down." Laura was loving helping out someone "then why not practice it first without your wand." Laura looked at her wood. "Once you are sure you know it, then concentrate on how you want your boat to look and then." Laura concentrated hard and pointed her wand at the boat. " Lignum Navicula" She tapped the wood and there was the boat she had imaged in her head. "Your turn." |
Sophie had a boat and a piece of rope before her, but even still she knew she needed some more practice. Although she hated to admit it, she knew she wasn't perfect with her spell-casting, and just getting each spell right one or two times wouldn't cut it. Sophie reverted the boat back to a piece of wood then situated the wood before her. She backed up a step then aimed her wand forward. With a tap, she said, "Lignum Navicula" The wood quivered a bit then with a poof, it turned into... ...half a boat. Errr? |

So.... He was bored and his head wasn't focusing anymore. Was class ending soon? His stomach was growling even though he had breakfast right before class he wanted more. He looked at his lopsided boat and pointed his wand, "Reverto" Letting it go back to the wood. He let his eyes wonder around the room and watched others doing the spell. Laughing at the ones that hadn't done it yet, because he did it so well. Looking back at the wood he poked at it with his wand and started bobbing his head. "What does the fox say" He started singing quietly at first, but started dancing a bit. Dancing to the music in his own head. Mind fully away from the activity. He started with the robot and moved into the mood walk. It was good to have music in your head made the day more fun. Looking at the wood he pointed his wand while dancing, "Lignum Navicula" Nothing happened, but he assumed as much since he really didn't concentrate and he was singing more than he was doing the spell now. |

"Vinea funiculous!" she said, pointing her wand at the vine draped on the desk in front of her, and to Adrienne's surprise, it visibly thickened and became more ropelike. Hardly even close to the extent that Bellaire's had, true, but hey, it was working better than her previous attempt. "Vinea funiculous," she said again, and this time it even twisted around and took on a distinctly rope-y texture. The leaves still sprouting out from between the strands were, of course, irrelevant. |

"Lignum Navicula." West repeated quietly. "Vinea Funiculus." Okay. Not so bad. Though, couldn't you just use vines as vines and not really need to make them ropes? Vines could be pretty strong after all... what kind of fibres would the ropes end up being made from? Hemp? Or like, the actual vines themselves? He considered all this as Bellaire demonstrated... the vines she was using were a little bit pitiful though. Okay. So only particular kinds of vines? On a vine-by-vine basis? He examined the rope she'd made and nodded to himself, apparently satisfied. Okay. Some vines wouldn't need it though, definitely. A strengthening charm on a vine that was already plenty sturdy would work just as well, but if you were stuck with sad looking vines like these, then yeah sure, rope it up. And just a point for the vines and a tap for the wood? Nice and easy. Definitely no challenge over here. Once all the instructions had been given, West went and grabbed a vine and a log, and found a clear space to work in... and tried his very best not to be bothered by certain interactions. He really really was trying not to be. Really. Breathe, Odessa. Focus on the task at hand. He turned his back so he wouldn't be seeing, and made sure he was far enough away not to hear, and turned his attention to the vine. He spent a bit of time examining the raw vine, to get a feel for it really, and then he pointed his wand at it and concentrated. Rope time. "Vinea Funiculus!" He said the incantation firmly and sure enough the entire length of vine twisted and changed into a rope. Strong. And on the first try. He picked it up and gave it an experimental tug between his hands. Yeah, fortified. Cool. He changed it back with a simple reverto, and gave it another go, just in case it had been a fluke to get it on the first try. "Vinea Funiculus!" ... and it was a rope again. So that one was easy. Awesome. He was satisfied with trying it just twice to be honest. Now maybe if there were some variations he could build in there he might give it another go... but for now he felt ready to move onto the boat situation. |
So they weren't doing anything other than turning vine into ropes and planks into boats. Hayley could live with that. She wasn't designed to be able to do overly complex things and this was her first Transfiguration class ever. She didn't even think she could do any of those by the end of class. She brought the plank and a miserable-looking piece of vine back to where she was standing and tried the incantations before she picked her wand up. "Lig-num Na-vi-cool-uh?" she tried, before shaking her head. That wasn't how the professor had said it. "Lignum navicula." Better. That sounded closer to what she had heard. "Lignum navicula, lignum navicula." "Vinea funny-what?" she blinked, before listening for the people who were already doing the spell. "Vinea funicuteus? No, vinea funiculus. Vinea. Funiculus. Vinea funiculus." There, much much better. One was a tap and the other one was a point. She could point, she supposed. It wasn't the hardest of wand movements. It was the tap that she was worried about. Pulling out her wand, she tapped it gently on the wood, her wrist all bouncy. Was the tap supposed to be firm? She wasn't sure, but she was just going to try the rope spell first. "Vinea funiculus," she said slowly, pointing her wand at it and watching the vine nervously. Nothing. There was no reaction at all. Maybe the hat was wrong, maybe she was a Squib and didn't have any magic at all. She took a deep breath and tried again. "Vinea funiculus." The vine gave a little twitch and got Hayley all excited, but slackened. Nothing. How was she even supposed to do magic? She didn't get it. It was really quite upsetting. |
So Lignum Navicula with a tap was next to make the bit of wood into a small boat yeah? West had his wand ready and focused on the wood, y'know, instead of what others were doing. He didn't even notice Bellaire leaving either. Tap. "Lignum Navicula." The piece of wood expanded a bit and shaped itself into a boat.... only it didn't look all that watertight. But then West didn't know all that much about boats, so he guessed that made sense. He returned it to its original state, and then tried again. Tap. "Lignum Navicula!" .... better. Much better actually. Miniature boat could probably carry miniature people pretty well. It was bigger space wise than it had been at the start, but then it was also hollow so it was like the wood had spread itself out or something... and it was seamless, so that was kind of crazy. He picked it up and examined it. Cool. He wasn't sure how long he'd been working on it but by the time he looked up Bellaire was coming back in. She'd been gone? Okay... were they allowed to try it on larger stuff yet? |
Hayley wasn't giving up on this thing, nope. Hufflepuffs were unafraid of toil, and she had no idea what toil was, but she was just going to keep trying. There just had to be a way for the vine to become rope. "Vinea funiculus," she said again, clearer this time and pointing. This time, she tried to see the vines turning into rope. They twitched again, turning into thin string, but not quite rope. She sighed, shaking her head when she saw it turn back into vine. Hey, at least she did it, halfway. Now, she knew she could actually turn it into rope. She didn't see anyone around her that wasn't busy with their ropes, so she decided to just try it one more time and if she didn't get it, she would just move on to the next spell. Better to try both and not get one than to keep doing one and never getting it. "Vinea funiculus!" POINT. The vine turned itself into rope, slowly but surely. It looked a little flimsy, but it was rope nonetheless. Excuse her while she revelled in her victory. SHE TURNED VINE INTO ROPE. Aidee would be so proud. |

... Mhm. So the nameless Transfiguration Professor was back now. Sure. But Astrid was already done with the vine-to-rope and the wood-to-boat spells so she really didn't know what to do now. There were not notes to write down on her parchment and nothing to entertain or keep her busy while waiting for the Professor to dismiss them. This was getting bored so Astrid sighed. She thought that maybe she should just repeat the spell and stuff. "Reverto," she pointed at the rope and it turned back into a vine. So... out of boredom, Astrid cast the rope-to-vine spell, reversed it, and repeated the process. Well, repeat it until the class was over. "Vinea Funiculus!" And ta-da... a vine. SIGHS. BORED. SIGHS. |
Adi was taking a little break, passing it by watching the others and their progress. The older students seemed to be managing just fine. Was that something that developed when you got to sixth or seventh year? Anyway, the younger one were struggling. Some of them like him. He turned his attention back to the wood. "Lignum Navicula!" Tap! "Lignum Navicula!" Tap! Annnnd another second there was a boat on his desk just like the one he had transfigured before! And it didn't take as long as before! Awesome! |
Ending now...And Great Lesson Guys! Quote:
"Why yes, by starting over and practicing but we're a bit out of time now so you'll have to practice outside of class." Quote:
"I'm afraid not. But I'm sure the expression, practice makes perfect isn't foreign to you. I do have tips though, enunciate, point straight and tap firmly." Besides those who needed help, Sophia walked around and inspected the others. Most of her students seemed to have mastered the spells even without her standing over them. Impressive. She checked her watch and frowned. "Alright everyone. Take your wood and vine with you and please practice. You'll need them for the second part of the lesson. Great Lesson, enjoy the rest of your day. Goodbye." |
