Sooooooo, she was right about the vampires and zombies not really being dead? Interesting..... And now they were moving on.......to Sleeping Beauty? Uh, what did that have to do with the topic at hand? Unless the professor was saying that this was about comforting children about death? But then they were having to read it. Out loud. And honestly, Layla had never liked the story. It had always seemed a bit ridiculous to her. So she stayed silent through the whole thing, wishing for it to be over soon. And then it was. And.....they were actually discussing this? Sigh. "According to the story, it was true love's first kiss. Which I think is ridiculous, because she was basically in a coma, right? And no one's ever been woken from a coma by a kiss. Music or speech, maybe, but not a kiss." Or maybe she was just too cynical.......... Or maybe the Gryffindor boy had a better point. "Scratch that. I agree with the Gryffindor kid. It was simply coincidence." |
Adi thought this story was utterly ridiculous. This wasn't the first time he had heard it but he had never realised how silly and unreal it seemed until now. Just what had saved the Princess? The kiss as many as his class mates suggested? Adi wasn't quite so sure he believed that. Hand in the air, the second year stated, "According to the story, it was because of the King's son's kiss but that sounds so unreal.'' A kiss could not do that. Nuh uh. |
The ending was so cheesy, but for some strange reason she always awaited for it in suspense, as if it'd change. Several thoughts occurred to her as to how a kiss could save someone from a curse. A kiss, as romantic as it sounded, didn't have the magic in it to do anything, really. Being realistic and all. She raised her hand. "A true love's kiss, but I think it was more like mouth to mouth resuscitation...?" Sounded more realistic. "Or maybe runes were involved and no one noticed, but the prince? What if she was surrounded by wards and he broke them and got pass them then kissed her?" Maybe she was spending too much time reading on Ancient Runes, but it was possible, no? |
Ian listened to the other students and only really agreed with one. I mean, it was absurd that she was saved by loves kiss as he didn't even know this girl. And as she had been asleep for 100 years, was she technically still a girl? He did have one thought and raised his hand. He had seen it once on the boat. Professor. Perhaps it wasn't actually a kiss. Maybe it was a form of resuscitation. It's more plausible he breathed air into her lungs than she was saved by a touch of the lips. of course, with witches, it could be the spell had actually run it's course. It took a very powerful magic user to maintain a spell in perpetuity unattended. |
Story time and Lex had decided against reading, passing the book when it got to her so she wouldn't have to pick up where whoever left off. Merlin knew she didn't like these stories. All that rubbish about kisses saving people. Complete and utter rubbish. Kisses were great and all that but they couldn't have done much. "I'm with Mikey." The first thing said since coming in and seeing the coffin then being lied to that she would live. "It was just a curse, those wear off after awhile and she was asleep for quite some time. For all we know would'a woken up anyway." True love's kiss? Seriously? Poisoning the mind of the youth and she wouldn't let it get to her. Nope. Lex didn't read but when she did, there was nothing involving any of that. Slowly, she pinched off the tip of her cupcake and popped it in her mouth. On the bright side, she was getting her appetite back. |
"I think it COULD be a coincidence," Alice contributed helpfully, nodding to Tuussaint's words and those of the people that had agreed with him, "but... that seems really unlikely, don't you think? The probability of it all is really low. I think what really happened is that the spindle prick somehow send the Draught of Living Death into her bloodstream, and the smoochy dude had Wiggenwald Potion smeared on his lips. The hag who caused the whole thing was named Leticia something something." Mhmm. She'd read about it for her History of Magic OWLs. After all, it WAS just the Muggle telling of an actual wizarding occurrence, right? Right? Otherwise, there was some seriously creepy déjà vu in the world. |

Who was she calling a kid? He wasn't a kid. He was fourteen now, that was way passed kid stage. He gave the girl a LOOK! Before turning his head at the sound of his name. Quote:
"Thanks Lex." BEAM. Quote:
Uhm...say what now? Michael looked over to his Captain and he couldn't help but give her a disbelieving look. "Oh really?" He said turning in his seat to look at her fully. "And you think your theory is more plausible?" Yeah right, because the Prince, who was a muggle would know to put that potion on his lips. "It clearly says in the story 'and the day had come when Briar Rose was to wake again.' So she was going to awaken anyway whether the Prince came or not." Probably not a good idea to argue with his Captain, but whatever. |

Oh Merlin that was good. This class had changed Zahra's life. SPOILER!!: TOUSSAINT How on earth was Mikey actually on task? Zahra marveled at him. She'd been drawing little piles of poop on her parchment, with stick figures that had X's for eyes and he's all.... analyzing a story? Quote:
Quote:
Zahra smacked him in the chest. Hard. "You're gonna be pooping your pants sooner versus late, Toussaint." HE WAS SO OBVIOUS. HE WAS SO IMPRESSIVE and ...hehe... BUT DON'T PUFF AT THAT GRYFFINDOR. "I think MIKEY's right too!" Not that Zahra had paid a stitch of attention? "MIKEY. MIKEY! MIKEY!" |
Mikey, Mikey, Mikey? OHHH. Was she supposed to shout too? But she didn't really agree like TRUE LOVE'S KISS HELLO PEOPLE. One of the Bestestetest. Stories Everererer. Totally, okay? Her eyes had been flickering about as people argued their theories and she actually took all their information in. What was her theory on this...well Captain tended to know best...cept she had more to add. "What Alice said." Dun. Dun." BUT! I think he did it out of true love and we all know that true love is more powerful than anything else. " Mhhhhhm. #truestory Mmkay? |

Uh what??! "Shouting and cheering on Mikey's theory about coincidence would be entirely wrong. Potions were totally involved in this muggle tale. As were possibility of runes." So no more cheering please? Quote:
"So the Princess is fifteen when she falls asleep for one hundred years.... assuming the Prince is twenty or thirty when he finds her, wouldn't that be a large age difference? Could a person actually sleep for one-hundred years without aging? Granted it was a curse placed on her, so this kept her age the same, but her actual biological age is way beyond. What happens to the human brain when we sleep? What do you think happened for Briar Rose when she slept?" ooc: yes there's a lot of questions here. Feel free to answer or comment on any part of them ^__^ |
Quote:
"But it felt SO right,Professor!" Zahra HAD to explain, albeit with a SEMBLANCE of a sheepish grin. Potions smotions... whatever MIKEY said was RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGHT, amiright? hehe ..hehe *GRINNING AT YOU PROFESSOR WHATSHERNAME* Quote:
"It DREAMS. Or mine does. Sometimes I dream about MIKEY MIKE TOUSSAINT. And sometimes about muggle airplanes and one time about a purple motorcycle and most RECENTLY I was riding a camel and we were going to my brother's house... Copernicus brother... and he was going to feed us liver and were excited about that for some reason..." hehe Like just like that. Who the heck was Briar Rose? Zahra looked back to MIKEY. MIKEY. MIKEY. |
Hmmm...Could a person not grow old while they are sleeping for a 100 years? What happens to the human brain when we're sleeping? What did he think happened for Briar Rose when she slept? Hmmm....lots of questions. Sander spent some time thinking out his answer before he raised his hand. "Professor I don't think it's possible for a body not to grow old because the body and organs continue to function even while you are sleeping. The only way you won't grow old is if the person is cryogenically frozen in suspended animation. This makes everything in the body remain in stasis," Okay question one answered. Now on to the next. "The body may be at rest when we're sleeping but the brain is still working, transmitting messages to the rest of the body's organs. That's how we dream...and that's how we stay alive." ....second one answered. Now the last. "As for Briar Rose, I think she would be experiencing the same thing a person who sleeps normally. She was sleeping and dreaming....it was just a long, long, long dream...or multiple dreams. " |
Quote:
"I think it will be a huge age difference, Professor. But she didn't age physically...which is completely impossible. But as you said the spell helped prevent that.''Paaaause. Strike what he thought earlier. These were indeed complicated questions. As for what happened to the Princess when she slept... "Our brain never sleeps as it's always working to make sure all other organs, muscles and so on are also working. Like Sander said, I think the same happened to Briar Rose when she slept. She dreamt on and on and on.'' Gosh, what a lot of dreams she must have had. |
For once in his life, Alec didn't have questions. He had been sitting there silently, looking from one person to another as they spoke. Interesting ideas, some of these were. Especially the potions one that Hulk had mentioned. That wasn't something he had thought of the first time he heard of the story. And since he didn't have any smart ideas of his own, the boy sat there, scribbling down some notes. Another reason for this silence was because talks about kissing made the ... Right. Class. Scribble... scribble... scribble... And Hadley was asking a lot of questions. The Head Boy hardly kept up with them all but there was one asked about the brain so... he was going to answer that one. Yeah. "Professor?" he started, raising his hand in the air, "Your brain does continue working when you're asleep. I mean... if her, the Princess's, brain had been asleep too, she wouldn't have woken up when the Prince had kissed her, right?" ... Erm...? ... Moving on. "She must have had dreams. I think. But... Professor? How do we know she was sleeping and not... not in a coma or...?" |
Aha! So it WAS true love's kiss. In your face, non-believers! Beaming, Lux listened as the Professor talked more. Some people really needed to open their eyes more to romance... of course forgetting that she herself had been close-minded towards it even a few months ago. Oops. And the theory that Alice presented was rather interesting. Alice was really smaaaart. Huh, Lux had never really thought about the age difference thing before now, but it was an interesting question. Raising her hand, she offered a guess in reply. "Since she was asleep, not dead, her organs were still working. So biologically she would be over 100 and... externally she looked the same as ever." The story never said anything about her looking like she was really old looking. "So I suppose that the curse prevented her from looking older than a teenager? And when she was asleep, all she did was dream. Many dreams. For a very looooooooong time. Because that is what people do when they sleep." |
They'd learned about this before, hadn't they? Ella couldn't be one hundred percent sure but she vaguely recalled talking about something along these lines during a potions and History of Magic joint lesson. Unless she was imagining things which honestly, wouldn't be a far-fetched assumption. Old age brain did weird things sometimes. But yeah, she agreed with Alice, especially based on her thinking they'd discussed this in the past. "Maybe it was a curse to freeze her in time." Like what happened with that awful lady who had done something to Anya-face and the rest of them. "As for the brain, it's still doing its thing while we sleep. Making sure your body is still functioning and being re-... ... ..." What was that word? "Restorative." Yeah, that. |
Marigold wrinkled her nose. West's girlfriend person was smart, yes, but the whole thing seemed unlikely. Whatever. Question time. Age differences. Ew. "Maybe the princess aged a little during the 100 years?" Just to make it less creepy. Yeah, probably not right. "Doesn't our brain release hormones when we sleep?" Endorphins or something? "So I think she went a little crazy with all the excess things in her brain." |
Sleep? Tobias knew a LOT about sleep, as he did it so much these days. And he'd heard a whole bunch of stuff about it from TV back home. He stuck his hand in the air. "When you're asleep your brain is still going, telling your body to do all the stuff that keeps you alive. Like, you have to sleep and rest so your body can like, power-up, and half of your brain is focused on stuff like making sure you're breathing and junk, and the other half makes you dream." These were rough estimates. "I think mainly it does the sleep cycling thing, and you kind of go back and forth between really deep sleep and only-just-asleep, which is when we wake up naturally." Hmmmm... "But I guess the girl was always in a deep sleep? Which sounds super dangerous." Hmm. Sleep. Toby could really go for some sleep right about now. Or soon? Maybe? |
Professor praise? Finally. Alice beamed. "Briar Rose was a cougar for sure, gettin' those young boys." Like what Hadley tried to do when she kissed Botros at the feast that one time, except flipped around. Weird. "Well, if she HAD been giving the Draught of Living Death, all it does is put you into a deathlike slumber. I don't think it has any effects of death or aging, so she's fine. But it must have kept her body and organs from functioning in a way that kept her young looking." Clearly, 'cause what sort of prince wanted to marry an old hag? "I don't think the potion does anything to your brain either, so I guess it just did whatever it does when we sleep normally. Let it transmit messages that kept her breathing and alive and stuff." What, though, were her classmates saying about a spell? She wasn't very educated on the Draught of Living Death, seeing as both Lafay and Culloden had never made them brew it, so if there was an enchantment in place that assisted the Draught in its endeavors... well, Alice wouldn't know. |
Lily sat quietly, taking notes on what her classmates were saying in response to the questions. Draught of living death, blah de blah....notes notes notes. The story wasn't really all that different from other stories, so Lily didn't focus too much on the little details. It was more important to figure out the whole storyline and how it was even possible to be revived from something like that. One hundred years was a long time to be sleeping, even with a curse put on you, like c'mon man. Either way, Lily didn't really care about the ending of the story. Instead she was more focused on how this person had really survived. Was it really her sleeping or was it more like a comatose state? Sticking her hand up, Lily kinda started thinking out loud. "What if she was in some sort of coma-like state? Like she was alive but not really sleeping per say. But even then, people in comas can age biologically..." The seventh year finished up, kinda trailing off in her thoughts. Peculiar story this was... |
Uh, seriously..........?! It sounded like the professor really wanted them to believe this silly little fairy tale. Sigh. Layla was more of a realist, so even if Muggles did like to write about Wizarding events, and the potions thing was true, there was still something wrong with the story. "Muggles also like to make stuff up, so either the whole story's made up, or the part about her not aging is." The Slytherin had nothing against romance, but she did have a problem with people insisting that ridiculous stories were true. |

Then her old ears caught something else. The Gryffindor blinked at Zahra..."I am." With him. Seriously. He had a good point. "He's got logic. Why wouldn't I?" Was that to say she wasn't agreeing with Mikey? Last she checked everyone was entitled to their own opinions. She shot Mikey a questioning look concerning his friend before turning her attention back to the Professor. Weird Third Year stuff probably. Quote:
Also, that was a lot of years to be sleeping. She'd never be able to on account of feeling like she'd lost a lot...not that the girl had a choice to begin with but still. Just listening to it made her want to go out and DO SOMETHING. "I think the curse would have made her inactive. The fact she woke up means her brain was obviously still sending signals for the rest of her body to keep itself awake but I doubt it did anything else. It'd be like when you go to sleep but the moment you close your eyes it's morning and you don't know where the time went or when it did." Least that's how she saw it. |
Much of a cougar, eh, Sleeping Beauty? Beverly got to thinking; she'd never date a guy who was eighty or seventy something years younger than her. What would her family think? That was just barbarous. But it probably helped not looking the age, unlike her case; thirteen looking like ninety. As for what happened to the brain when they sleep, she was no healer to know exactly what. So, she'd answer the first question. She raised her hand. "It is a large age difference. Sleeping Beauty could practically be his grandmother, but maybe appearance helps the human mind forget that and...just go on with their romantic life...?" She knew nothing of it. Looks, up until recently, meant nothing to her. |

Whatever. When she chastised Zahra, he was tempted to argue that was her interpretation of the story. It did not mean it was the right one. Unless the woman had gone back in time and interviewed the author of the story and asked them how the Princess woke up. Quote:
That was until Z spoke again and he found himself sitting upright and grinning. "You dream about me? What do you dream?" Hehehehehe. This was important. |
I'm sorry she's so off topic. She's... not? BUT IM SORRY JESS OKAY. <3 Quote:
Zahra copied Michael. She sat back, she put her legs up, and added her hands resting behind her head. PICTURE OF COMFORT. AS FOR LEX? CAN'T HEAR YOU. DEAF TO YOU BECAUSE MIKEY IS SPEAKING. "Oh yeah, man, like.... ALL the time. Did I not tell you the camel dream? We HAVE to get a camel this summer and ride that thing AROUND. It should be our principal form of transportation." Zahra wiggled her eyebrows at Mikey, then WHISPERED POORLY to him, "Everyone in here is talking about kissing." JUST A CASUAL OBSERVATION. "PROFESSOR I LIKE THIS CLASS!" BECAUSE SHE DID AND IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET HER KNOW. Zahra then waved at the Professor because... you know... GOOD JOB, TEACH! "I'LL PROBABLY COME BACK AGAIN." Probably, you know? hehe BEAMING! |
