Post #2 Once he had one of the creepy doll effigy whatevers tucked under one arm, Tobias found a place at a fire, which had just been vacated by a student who'd finished trying out the spell. He still kept his distance, because fire was hot, and he could feel the extra warmth blasting his face and clothes and making his back feel very cold by comparison. Okay, spell. Tobias raised his wand so it was pointing skywards (which was a weird wand holding position okay) and did the tight circular movement and then a FLICK towards the fire, all the while thinking super hard what he wanted to happen. "GlaIncendia!" .............. The fire didn't look any different. Toby KNEW it wasn't supposed to look different, like he HAD been listening, but for some reason he still expected something to happen. Still, nothing did, and Toby was eventually forced to throw the effigy into the flames. Which he did. And then stood there and watched. As it turned green and then black. ................ "Huh." Time to try again then. |

Finally, she seemed to be finish. Waiting patiently for her to step away from the flames, the captain moved forward again, eager to toy with their properties. It was like science except not. "You've been kind of stiff during practice anyway, I doubt a burnt wrist would do anymore harm." She turned back and stuck her tongue out at the fifth year, making it evident she was joking, before directing her attention back to the fire. "GlaIncendia." Pointing her wand upwards, she rotated her wrist in another fluid motion before flicking it towards the flames. Did she really was to test it with her hand first, though? Really, Alice didn't have that much faith in her spell casting. Tossing an effigy doll into the fire, she turned to Lex. "You can stick your hand in now." The seventh year hadn't seen whether it had turned white or green, but Lex could do what she wanted with her appendages either way. |

Once there, Mo watched his classmates to see what he'd been doing wrong. Wand up, circle, and... wait! Mo looked to someone else to see how they cast the spell, and again he saw it. He'd been flicking toward the doll, but those who were successful were flicking toward the fire. "GlaIncendia," Mo cast the spell carefully, making the upright circle with a flick toward the fire at the end. Again, his doll stayed the same, but he felt good about it this time. Something must be different. With a heavy heart, Mo threw his doll into the fire again and held his breath. |
Post 3 SPOILER!!: SUCH a caring Captain "Yup, basically." Lex said with a nod of clarification. "I did too, then my wand started cooperating more." It was something most everyone had to go through, some for longer than others. Like Theo. His wand still didn't listen to a thing he said. Served him bloody right too for being so disagreeable. Poor wand must have a hard time dealing with him. Despite the tongue sticking, Alexa had to admit it was a little true. When had flying gotten so hard? When did her joints decided to start stiffening on her at random?? "Louisa said she'd send me something for that. Thinks you've scared me sensless and given me grey hair then had Quidditch damage me further." Leave it to the former Claw to have the best outlooks on life. The Fifth Year stepped to the side and allowed Alice to cast, waiting for the time when she'd be allowed to stick her hand in and test the fire. It was a reoccuring theme it seemed. First fire that didn't burn in Potions and now this but she wasn't complaining. Was she done? Yes? The doll was going into the fire so that was a yes. The girl watched it for a moment, pleased it'd stayed white then reached into the fire and placed hers next to Alice. Now then. Ahem. "Good job Alice. I knew we'd get it right if we cast together! Excellent work. Let's have s'mores now." Because no one saw anything and they TOTALLY just cast together, right Alice? yes? Of course. Food? |
Post 1 Nodding back to Terry Ana turned her attention to what the Professor was saying. She was relieved when he reassured them that they'd be throwing dolls into the fire to test out their spell work. She'd hate to get seriously injured just to test out a spell. Ana was also relieved to hear that while the fire was real it was charmed to not cause too much injury. It wouldn't do to have little children get badly burnt just for class. Upon gaining permission to practice the spell Ana, unlike some of her other classmates, didn't immediately go to grab a doll. Not only would it be pointless to stand there with all of them, but she also had to practice the incantation and wand movements. She could do both of those things without having a doll yet. Ana decided to practice the wand movement first and so slid her wand from her holster before attempting to mirror the Professor's movements. A tight circle with the wand pointing upwards and then a flick at the target. Ana practiced the movement a few times until she could be certain that she was making as tight a circle as she could, her wrist crunching slightly on the last one, before she put it back away. Now for the incantation. "GlaIncendia. GlaIncendia," Ana repeated a few times, making sure she had the incantation down, stifling a few more yawns as she did so. She might feel more alert but her body was obviously trying to prove to her that it was still tired. Oh well, not like she could seriously injure herself. Once she felt confident Ana grabbed an effigy doll and looked around at the campfires to see which one was free for her use. |
Post 2 Delilah repeated the incantation another couple more times and started to practice her hand movement. She wanted to get it perfectly right first. After a few more minutes of practicing before before she decided that she was ready to go. She went over and picked up one of the creepy-looking effigy dolls. Heh. Okay, time for action. The Hufflepuff took a deep breath before tossing the doll into the fire. "GlaIncendia." She said loudly with the required wand movement. ... Did it work? |
Post 3 It WORKED! Gwen couldn't keep herself from jumping in excitement, though she did refrain from hand-clapping and cheering. The doll thing looked completely untouched in the flames. For a moment, Gwen was tempted to touch the flames. Hadn't the professor said it was a pleasant tickling sensation? A quick glance at her wand-hand convinced her it was a bad idea. One burn was enough for the day. Besides, what if the spell wore off while she was in the flames? She knew all about stopping, dropping and rolling, but didn't particularly want to implement it today. Satisfied that she had completed the spell once successfully she stepped over to where the food was. Nothing felt more comfortable than eating a hot-dog. With ketchup. Did they have ketchup? Maybe not. When she went to see baseball games in America, she always had a hot dog with ketchup on it. Perhaps the hot dog wouldn't roast though, on a fire with a flame-freezing charm on it. She slid the unidentified meat onto a skewer and stepped over to the flames nearest the food. They hadn't been bewitched yet. |
Post 2 Seeing a fire free up Ana made her way towards it, holding her doll tightly with her left hand. She took a deep breath, reassuring herself that she could do the spell before unholstering her wand once more. "GlaIncendia," Ana said firmly, moving her wand in the required motion as she did so. Her wrist cracked loudly, startling her slightly as she flicked it to point at the flames. She hadn't jumped though and her wand was still pointing at the fire so Ana was hopeful that she'd done the spell correctly. Well, she knew she'd said the incantation correctly at least. Holding her breath Ana threw the doll into the fire, moving closer so she could see what colour it was turning. |
Post 1 Glacia-what sits? Lucas mouthed the spell under his breath, while fiddling with the dolly in his hand. UM. It wasn't even an EASY THING to say. He practised the wand movement too because he didn't want to kind BURN the dolly. Poor dolly. He did a wide circle before the protracted flick. "GlaIncendia," Lucas said, aiming for that whole CLEAR ANNUNCIATION thing that always eluded him. Time to try for the best! He pet the doll one last time and threw it into the fire, standing up straight and pointed his wand at the fire and pronounced clearly and eloquently: "GlaIncendia." Despite his confidence, the doll shrivelled and melted pretty quickly. Ouch. Lucas pouted. For shame, he'd TOTALLY tried. |
post three Sarah watched as the doll landed in the fire... she eyed it with trepidation.. would it burn? She waited a few moments, yet the doll looked the same as before. Sitting in the fire, as if it was just air... That probably meant that the spell had worked! Sarah approached the fire, still with caution.. she knew in her mind that it would not hurt her.. but it still was scary. She placed her hand in it.... and snatched out the doll. She was not taking chances though. With the doll out of the fire, she could stop the spell now. "Finite" she casted. Now the flames would hurt. Sarah was eager for the bonfire to start |
Post 2 Still bouncing to the song playing over and over in his head and went to retrieve another doll. So he did't do it the first time, whatever. He wished he had some of that potion then he could blow flames back at the fire. That would be awesome or he could have made S'more with the potion at the same time he was doing hotdogs in the fire. Oh wait doll and charm, right. Bart went back to really trying to focus on the doll and this charm. Since they learned a charm did that mean they could skip charms class for the first lesson? Chuckling a bit at the thought he turned his attention on the doll. Wand up, circling wrist a little tighter than the last time, and flick towards the object. NO STOP It wasn't towards the object it was towards the flames... Was that what he did wrong the first time. He couldn't really remember so back to work. Wand up, circle motions, wrist flick to the flame, "GlaIncendia" Now would it work that was the question. Bart set the doll into the flames, but again it went up in smoke and burned until nothing was left. He frowned a bit. As cool as burning these dolls were he really wanted to stick his hand in this flame. So this needed to start working. |
Post #1 Text Cut: Professor McCormack GlaIncendia. GlaIncendia. GlaIncendia. Cutty mouthed and repeated the incantation noiselessly to himself three times for practice. He dug into his pocket and dispensed his wand, which spilled out onto the ground and rolled for a short distance before he pounced upon it-almost desperately-not liking the feeling of it being out of his hand or even how he'd come to drop it when he never did before. Could he have been nervous? Maybe the dolls? Although, he'd forced himself to overcome that fear over the summer. Besides these effigy dolls had very little of the homunculus-like appearance that Lowely's dolls had, which had been the source of Cutty's phobia. Wand now safely in hand, Cutty moved up to fetch one of the effigy dolls and did so almost angrily as if frustrated by his recent foible. He moved back to one of the flames and practiced the quick-flick motion of the wrist for the spell. The Professor had said it wasn't difficult, so the boy concentrated and exerted his will whilst uttering the magic words, "GlaIncendia!". His wrist cracked loudly with the circular motion and flick. It didn't hurt, but this time Cutty found it less fascinating and more strange. Was that how he'd dropped his wand? He must've hurt his wrist in that tug of war by the lake. Cutty wasn't sure if he'd done the spell correctly, so he held out his palms as if trying to warm himself. They didn't exactly feel hot, but had they felt hot before? With an almost too casual gesture, he tossed the little effigy doll into the fire and it's lifeless, pale body flopped as if it had been on the worse end of a brawl. It was, however spared the ravages of flame as it remained white and unharmed. Cutty reached into the flames to pull out the doll and inspect it for thoroughness. |
Post 3 You know what that was? The sweet smell of success. AKA the sweet smell of your effigy NOT burning up. So really... the smell of nothing as opposed to the smell of burned things. Yessss. His doll stayed white so West felt bold enough to reach in to fetch it out by hand. He plunged his hand into the flame... ... ... heh. It tickled a little actually. Pleasantly warm. West plucked the doll out and slowly extracted it, examining it all over for any sign of burning but no, it had held up just fine. Awesome. He got his hand clear and then once again turned his wand to the flames with a quick finite. He was close enough that when the spell took effect it was like a roar of heat as the fire restored itself. West could feel it radiating off the flames. Toasty, but he'd not wanna stick his hand in THERE. So anyways.... he was done yeah? That meant he could EAT, yeah? West went ahead and sought out some food, all in all approving of the lesson. |
Post #2 "Finite!" Cutty casted, undoing his work as he prepared to give it another go. Feeling the heat of the flames increase quite a bit now at closer range, the Slytherin took a few steps back to where the heat from the flames could hardly be felt, if at all. He raised his wand and following the example given by their professor he motioned with the tight circle and a wand flick, wrist creating cracking noises throughout that short gesticulation. "GlaIncendia!" He took a step forward. And then another and another. The flame still gave off heat as before. Logically, that would mean he did not work, but Cutty had to be certain. Either that or he just wanted to burn things. Anyway, he tossed the effigy doll right in and watched it bounce, burst into greeness and then char in a timely manner until he was a fine black crisp. Time to fetch a new doll, then? |
Post 3 Ana walked closer to the flames, looking at them hopefully. She could feel some heat but it didn't feel deathly hot like fires sometimes could. So she was taking that as a good sign. That and the lack of burning thing. Because if she couldn't smell burning that meant that her dolly was fine, right? Peering around Ana finally spotted her doll in the middle of the fire. It was white. She'd never liked the colour more than right at this moment. Letting out an excited squeak she bounced excitedly, taking in the fact that she'd cast the spell correctly, despite the cracking wrist, and that she'd be able to touch the fire without any danger. Before she could overthink it she reached in and grabbed her doll. Well attempted to grab her doll. It took her a few goes to focus her eyes on it properly enough to judge the distance... As she stepped back with her doll she rubbed at her tired eyes, hoping they'd focus correctly soon. It was weird. One minute her vision was fine and the next she felt like things were going blurry... Shaking her head she turned her wand back on the fire and ended the enchantment with a simple, "Finite," before moving out of the way of the other students. Smore time! |
Post #2 Concluding that he had in fact had enough practicing now, Terry approached the box of dolls and grabbed one out of it, inspecting it as he did. They looked like they'd be extremely flammable anyway. He headed back over to a campfire which wasn't occupied, drawing out his wand from the holder. Having no such luck in finding one that hadn't been taken over by multiple students, the sixth year waited by until he could slip in at any opportunity and use the fire for himself, watching the younger students as he did so. Some had picked it up, others clearly had not. Once the occupancy of the fire had been cleared, the sixth year stepped out in front of it. His turn now. He drew a tight circle with his wand, it facing upwards into the sky before flicking it towards the fire. "GlaIncendia" he spoke simultaneously. The words came out clear and well pronounced. Speaking in this sort of language was becoming like second nature to Terry now, he was proud of how easy he was finding it these days. He peered over the top of the fire before tossing the doll into it. The sixteen year old waited for concluding evidence as to whether he could stick his hand in. |
Post 3 IT WORKED. Delilah grinned to herself as the effigy doll stayed the way it was. It wasn't burning so that meant her spell worked! She was pretty good with incantations but still.. it still felt good. She kneeled down and slowly plunged her hand into the flames. And, NOTHING. Good lesson, she approved. She moved her hand away and got up before pointing her wand at the fire again and muttered, "Finite." ... Now, what? She picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder, a little unsure as to what to do now. Just wander about? Yeah, that sounded good. |

Kidding, she was totally more terrifying than a Selina. Any day. She didn't touch the flames to retrieve the two white dolls, since the professor had claimed they tickled. What was with him and Culloden, were they coordinating lesson plans or something? And why was Cambridge trying to get out of doing work? "Get that effigy junk back out and cast it yourself. Merlin, is the legendary Alexa Cambridge afraid of a spell?" |

Lex was sure they could start snacking now, like the others were doing but then Alice was getting ridiculous and not very good at pretending either. There was no time to BEAM at the fact that the girl called her Legendary because she was calling her a Puffer basically. "I'm not afraid of the spell. I'm hungry and want sugar. There's a difference duh. Now quit pretending we didn't just cast together. I mean, look how comfy our dolls are together. No need to make them do it again." Food Alice, focus on the food. Lex wasn't interested in History and as much as she liked fire, chocolate and hot dogs excited her MOAR. Of course she appreciated the fact that the class was a practical one but see, next time the Professor should think twice about adding something as distracting as FOOD. Now who had the s'mores? |
*Going up to the fire Romulus put his hand close to feel the heat. Yep if he didn't do this right Roger the doll would burn. Stepping back he said the charm out loud a few times and practiced the wand movements.* |
professor Sarah sat by the fire and watched the flames, while she ate some food. "professor, can we have a sing-along around the bonfire... its really cool." Maybe a student could get their guitar and they can sing.. maybe even damce around the fire. That would be nice and relaxing, especially for the 'elderly' students among them Sarah held her hand out, so she could feel the heat of the fire on her hands.. glorious |
Post #3 So... Alec was waiting. And waiting. And waiting. ... Surely the doll was meant to be doing something in the fire, right? The Head Boy glanced over at the professor quickly before looking around at other people's dolls in the fire. He saw a green and a black... which meant that a doll was being burnt, right? But that wasn't what he was looking for. No. What he wanted to see was-- ... There! White. The doll was just meant to stay white? He turned around sharply to look back at his doll that was sitting in the flames. White. The doll was still white. A slow, nervous grin spread across the boy's face as he stared at the doll. Nervous because... this meant that he could put his hand in there, yeah? That meant that he needed some courage. ... Erm...? Taking a deep breath, the eighteen year old slowly reached over to the flame. Slowly. Almost as slow as his pace down to the grounds had been a little earlier on. Slow... Heh. The flames were tickling him. Alec let out a couple of After a while when the boy realised that people could probably hear him chuckling to himself -- ticklish boy was ticklish -- Alec grabbed the doll and withdrew his hand. "Finite!" There. The fire should be back to normal and the weird doll... looked like it hadn't been in a fire at all. Not bad. And what made this even better? He was ready to have some s'mores! And hot dogs. FOOD. |
post #1 SPOILER!!: professor Sooo... fire. This had to be one of the weirdest lessons she had at Hogwarts so far. They had to grab a doll and then do a spell -circle, flick- and then throw the doll into the fire. Hopefully the doll was faceless. Throwing something with a face into a fire felt morbid. Yep. She grabbed the doll -being please that it was in face faceless and subsequently creepy, and went over to a fire. And in a total duh moment, she noted to herself that the fire was hot. Because.. brains. She had them in her head. "GlaIncendia." She whispered the the words so that she could get them down. It would suck to have the right wand movement and the wrong words. Circle flick. Circle flick. Circle flick. Movement down. Now all that was left was to toss the creepy faceless doll into the fire and actually ya know, do fire stuff. "GlaIncendia!" She did the spell for the first time and then looked at her doll. Bye, effiagy thing. With a light toss that resembled someone playing catch with a child, the eleven year old tossed the doll into the fire. |
2 Quote:
Next, in went the doll, after one more good luck kiss. She waited for the moment it took for the doll to sail into the fire and was very pleased to see that she or he No. IT. No genders for the dolls, Caterina, had not set to fire. Yippee! |
post #2 And then Caelen waited. Because she didn't want to declare success right before the doll caught fire, right? That would be anti-climatic. And.. the doll was burning. Slowly at least, but the stupid thing was burning. What the heck went wrong? Was she not focused? She probably wasn't focused on the actual work part of this, just the doll and the food that was coming. Okay, so new doll. Grabbing a new creepy doll thing, she mumbled a quick goodbye to the old one. Was she supposed to get it? Because that was going to happen after, when she had the long stick for food. Caelen was almost sure there was some kind of protection to keep students from reaching into the fire for burned dolls. "Finite!" She figured that clearing out the first spell could work. Poor doll. It never even had a home. Anyway, she grabbed another doll and sighed. This one better work.. "GlaIncendia!" She focused this time, on the fire and the doll. Or at least tried to. And with a toss that shown she meant nothing to the doll -though they didn't really have feelings, it was important to her to do that- she waited. And waited. And waited. It worked! The stupid doll wasn't burning this time, and the other was kind of blackening. Somewhat. Still better than before. And yes, she was still planning on getting the other doll out of the fire with the long hotdog stick. But first she wanted to celebrate. |
