Apparently Mo was going to do all his planet-spotting here by the lake. Knowing this, he stretched out on the shore and took up a position that allowed him the best view of the skies above. Not all planets were easy spot with just his eyeball as the tool, but Mercury... Mercury he should be able to spot.

It wasn't as easy as, say, Mars, but after spending a long moment comparing his chart to the sky, Mo was finally able to identify Mercury. Curiously fast little thing, right? Made sense, since it sat so close to the sun and was named after one of the speedier gods in the Roman pantheon.

He traced its route in the sky with a fingertip before letting his hands fall back into the sand. This was a nice spot for star gazing. He ought to bring Cat here.

COULD you have a picnic out here?

Alec looked up from his magazine and started examining the boat carefully. Of all the times he had been out here, it was always by himself. That was a little weird, wasn't it? If he had met up with someone here, he would have been able to find out whether these boats could support two or more people. We're they charmed? Magic pedalo boats? What with all the magic at the school, Alec would be MORE surprised if they weren't charmed.

... Right. Yeah. Thinking.

Shaking his head. He reached into his bag and pulled out a spare piece of parchment and his writing equipment, along with the letter. This... letter that had caused a lot of confusion, especially to him. But then again, he was generally a confused seventeen year old most of the time so... maybe this wasn't surprising. Maybe.

Taking a peak back at the magazine, Alec glanced at the information before looking back at the piece of parchment. Write... he should write something. Something... anything! ... Maybe not anything but... you know... something smart. The lake was meant to give him ideas but... it turned out that he was still as stumped as ever.

Frown. This was going to go nowhere.

Cassirin 12-01-2013 03:41 AM

And then there was Venus. Finally. Mo ignored his chart this time around, mostly because he knew that, after the moon, Venus was the brightest object in the sky. It shone with a blue-white light, and his eyes couldn't help but be drawn to it. No struggle at all.

Mo settled back in the sand again, wiggling a little nest for himself to make it more comfortable. Maybe he'd just stay here all night and follow Venus across the sky. If it wasn't still a bit chilly, and if his bum wasn't getting wet, then he would. But as it stood, he was going to pack his telescope back into the sling and head up to bed.

Sarah brought out her teloscope and looked up into the sky. Where was that planet? She arched her head back a bit... then she heard a sound.. was that the great squid? She did not want to be pulled into the lake now. She moved further away from the water's edge and looked up.

That was a planet up there.. what planet was that? ooh. it must be Venus. isnt there a joke that women are from there? Sarah did not get that joke, but she marked venus off on her paper

double post!

Okay so all Nerida had to look for was Mercury and Venus. Setting her telescope up she started to scan the skies, starting with Mercury first then she would move onto Venus, she wondered where that one would be.

Nope that was not it.

Nope.

Was Mercury even here?

Just as she was going to give up on Mercury she saw it.. She had been looking at it for the last couple minutes.

For Anyone!!

Narumi strolled to the lake and looked around she hadn't been here in a while sitting down on the rocks she admired the view. It was good to be back at Hogwarts, now that her grandma had gotten over her views of Britain. Though Hogwarts was different than Himitsumahou. She had gotten back in the swing of things. And had gotten lots of studying for her owls in now all she had to do was do good!

Luna_Midnight 12-01-2013 08:21 AM

A couple nights before she had found Mercury so the last one to find was Venus. And since she had luck at the Lake why not come back and see if it was there!! Nerida knew that Venus was the brightest in the sky besides the moon of course. She scanned the sky looking for the brightest object in the night sky. Yeap there it was pushing away her telescope she looked at it without for a second before taking her telescope and looking at it some more. It sure was pretty!

Tora hauled all her stuff out once more to the lake. She had had some good luck the night before when she had found Mercury and now she had to find its neighbor planet, Venus. Her Astreglobe glowed in the darkness as she waved her wand over the magical device to show the celestial objects visible that night. Venus should definitely be one of them.

Although she had had some luck the night before with Mercury, she still had had to use the Astreglobe's special Planet setting to help her find where the planet was located. It wasn't an easy planet to find. Venus, however, was one of the brightest "stars" in the sky, and Tora hoped she was a good enough astronomer to be able to find it without too much help from her beloved device.

Venus... Venus... Where was it? Tora's practiced eye swept the sky for the yellow light of the planet before finding it just above the horizon. Aha! There it was! She grinned proudly as she checked off the planet from the list of things she had to find in the night sky. She twisted the telescope beside her around and lined up the lens with the planet. Maybe she could see the actual planet like she could see the moon? Well, perhaps not quite that clear, but she should still be able to see some detail. More detail than when she found Saturn. She muttered a short spell and... viola! It wasn't crystal clear, but it was as good as she was going to get.

For several more minutes she swept the sky, picking out her favorite constellations and other things, occasionally looking up interesting going- ons in the Astreglobe (no comets currently, but apparently several of Jupiter's larger moons were visible tonight). Finally she said goodnight to the stars and packed up her things. She slipped across the Hogwarts grounds, enjoying the balmy near-summer night and headed towards Ravenclaw Tower.

"How about you choose a random chord you haven't played for me yet, play it, and tell me what it is?" he asked, cocking his head slightly as he waited for Adi to reply.

Oh he was Super pleased! "Do you know to play any other instruments?'' Adi asked curiously, not looking at Dylan because he was somewhat afraid this was all a joke and that Dylan might have a jar of ink hidden somewhere. Ready to dash it on him.

A random chord? Okay! Hmmmm. Which one? "How about this? I think it's A? Or C? No A!'' Aaaah! They were so hard to remember! Or was Adi just making this difficult? Anyway, as he waited on Dylan's reply he merrily continued to play the chord. This was fun!

Minerva brushed her hair off her shoulder as she watched her friend closely. She couldn’t help but chuckle, “Interesting? I was actually thinking it was pretty calm compared to other terms.” Not that she minded, it was a nice break not fearing for your life or being mental and not realizing it for a change. “I could see where you would think interesting though.” She knew Claudette wasn’t around for all the crazier terms, an orb, a plant, dementors, no she didn’t have to see any of that. She was glad she didn’t have to see any of that, Min herself wish she didn’t have to see most of it. “Sorry about silencing you by the way.” She hadn’t really got to say that yet.

When the topic turned to herself she absentmindedly looked down. Yeah it was noticeable things were going on, but she had kept to herself for studying purposes and of course her promise to not venture alone while the other students were doing things. “I’m doing good really. Not sick anymore so that is a plus, now if I could just get focused on studying.” That had been her biggest problem anymore. “Have you gotten any owls from your mom at all. I’m assuming they all know now.” She wasn’t sure how sisters were really, but she assumed they spoke regularly that Ethan’s mom would have said something by now.

She gave a small smile at her words, “I bet you will be glad to go back to your old school.” Even if Gaston was there she would have all her old friends. They would make sure he stayed away from her. Funny on a normal basis she would have thought it was cute if they fell for each other at a different school, but no way did she want her pretty much cousin going near that boy now. She bit her lip thinking about her questions. Was she looking forward to summer. “Yeah I guess I am. I mean I am excited, there are just so many changes going on. It’s a little overwhelming when I think about it all.” She glanced out at the lake. “I guess I’m having a hard time believing I’m going to be done here. It just feels odd to think about.” Bitter sweet was the best word to use. She was excited about things the future were bringing, but she wasn’t ready to leave yet.

Claudette raised an eyebrow at Minerva's words. Calm would not be the word that she'd personally use to describe it. "Sure you'd say that," she started with a chuckle. "You didn't get slipped a love potion and make a complete fool of yourself in front of the entire school." She looked down and blushed bright red. Too soon to really make light of it, she guessed. At least she was leaving soon so her humiliation wouldn't continue, though she was going back where Gaston was going. She'd better do some damage control before she got there. She turned to look at her again. "Oh.. that's alright. I suppose I should thank you really. Merlin knows what else I could have said."

And to be honest, she was kind of done thinking about it so she was glad that the conversation could be turned to something else. Claudette smiled a bit as Min talked about how she was doing. "That's good to hear that you've been doing better." She chuckled a little as she continued. "I guess it's hard to focus when there are so many other things to be thinking about." Plus studying was just boring, unless it was a really interesting subject like Potions. She was glad to have come to Hogwarts during a year she didn't have OWLs or NEWTs. Though with the amount of time she had been spending by herself lately, it might have been of good use to study. Nodding, she added, "Yes, gotten a few from my mother recently. She briefly mentioned things, but just in general terms. I think she's happy for an excuse to get a new dress." And that it wasn't her own daughter, but Claudette decided that would be rude to say.

Distractedly playing with a few pieces of grass, the blonde nodded as she thought about her old school and how much she missed it and the friends she had there. "Yes.. especially being my last. Need to make sure to have a great final year," she looked up with a smile. She was sure Min would know what she meant. She watched her carefully as it seemed that she was thinking over her questions and was even hesitant on the answer. Claudette couldn't really imagine how overwhelming things must be. "Well, if you need any help, please let me know. I'd be happy to.." Oh, she was sure she could envision lots of planning.. could be a lot of fun even. She gave another nod as she followed Min's gaze out to the lake. "I'm sure.. but you have a lot of new adventures waiting for you.."

Minerva eyed Claudette, “Yeah and you weren’t here to fear for your life over a flesh eating plant that ate two professors and had the Ravenclaw Captain in it’s grips before it was blown up, or here when someone spiked the ice cream so that everyone acted way to happy, me included. I sang songs really loud in class, danced around, pet people, acted completely bonkers for months, then had dementors attacking you where you watched one of your professors that’s like a mother figure be attacked, be attacked yourself, and watch the groundskeeper get his soul sucked out. I’m sorry you were slipped a love potion, but yes I would say this term has been much calmer.” She didn’t mean to sound annoyed, but a silly love potion that happened months ago should be laughed about by now. She couldn’t help but smile, she knew Claudette was being sensitive about it, but Min thought it was humorous. “If I wouldn’t have done it your aunt would have.” Mariel was right there, hmm Mariel she wondered what she thought of the news, anyway “No one is talking about you Claudette if that’s what you are worried about. Everyone that saw knew what was going on and no one thinks anything about it. In this school things are forgotten fast it seems. No one cared how crazy I was in the end and no one is judging you for the love potion. “ She didn’t want Claudette’s memories of this school to be bad, because someone was a jerk.

Minerva nodded in agreement, “Yeah everything is just moving so quickly. All these changes and things to think about. It’s just a lot and changes are so apparent now.” The end was so near and NEWTs were pretty much right around the corner. Everything was changing whether she was ready or not. So her mother did know things which meant Mariel would know things too. Well that wasn’t too surprising after all. She sighed and frowned at what they probably all were thinking. “Well I guess I’m glad she’s happy about that.” At least they were happy about something.

Min gave her a small smile, “The final year should be great. So put all this behind you and have fun.” Min thought about her final year, could she honestly say it was great. She wasn’t really sure she could. Not that it mattered much anymore it was pretty much over. Blue eyes looked up and she gave a small smile to her friend, “Thanks Claudette, I think I have everything covered right now and if I don’t Ethan’s mom seems to. She’s a great help.” Looking at the lake she felt so overwhelmed by feelings, feelings of leaving here she always had changes since coming to this school and now she had more changes happening ready or not. She sighed and kept her eyes at the lake, “That’s the terrifying part.”

*Walking down to the lake Rom was feeling more than down. Not only were his parents going on a trip without him for the holiday but he's brother was visiting some girls family. So it looked like he would be alone this holiday. He tried looking for his cousin Cece but she was no where to be found. Budget cuts or whatever it was made talking to his cousin next to impossible. Sitting down on a large rock by the shore he pulled out a pack of prawn flavored crisps. Opening them up he smelled them and grimaced. The crisps were not for him that was for sure. Pulling his wand out he floated a single crisp out of the pack. It spun in little circles on the end of his wand. Making a quick flick movement the crisp shot out like a rock from a sling shot and landed a good 30 feet on the water. Once the ripples from the crisp faded a large tentacle crept up and pulled the crisp down. Romulus smiled and looked down at the bag in his hand. It was a mindless and fun game he would play with the giant squid every few days or when he needed to think. Looking out of the water chucked a few more prawn crisps to the squid while he thought things over.*

"I can also play the piano, but that's it." he answered with a small nod, looking to Adi and noticing that he kept looking away...as if hiding his face from him. The first year cocked his head, looking at the boy with curiosity. "Are you okay?" he asked.

Then, Adi played the chord and Dylan nodded. "Yes, you were right the first time! That would be an A. Good job!" he said with a smile and patting his new friend on the back. "So, do you wanna finish running through the rest of the chords or move on to the next thing?" he then asked, tilting his head to the side a bit.
