"Sure." Glenn moved her bag a bit so the girl could pull out the chair and sit down properly. She gave a small smile to the girl before studying Professor Hadley. She was like a zombie or maybe their Professor was under the imperious curse :whaa: What would the castor make her do to them? |

"Hey," she said, sitting down. She took her paper out and a quill with a bottle of ink and set it next to her, then shoved her bag under the desk. |
SPOILER!!: Hey Hufflepuffs Ella was flipping through her textbook when she heard Alyssa's voice. She smiled at the badger and nodded. "Hey Alyssa. Sure, have a seat." It was always nice sitting by a friend. Next came Minnie and Ella waved at her friend. "Hey Minnie, sure you can join us." The second year said with a smile. It looked like the powerpuffs were going to be together this lesson as well. GRIN. The small blonde was reaching into her bag for a second quill when she saw Oakey walk past towards the windows. Brrrr. He was one brave Hufflepuff. She waved at him and returned the smile before turning back towards the front. |

Gwen wasn’t sure why, but she was looking forward to this class. ‘Good day, Professor Hadley’, the Ravenclaw said as she entered the classroom and then walked over towards an empty desk. However, with a quick look around, Gwendolyn was able to spot a familiar figure. She made a few more steps, until she reached the place where Jory was sitting. ‘Mind if I join you?’ |
Oh, the joy of numbers. Entering the Arithmancy classroom, Dylan slowly made his way to an available seat. He wasn't too much worried about socializing and trying to sit with friends. Not today, anyway. Truth was, the Slytherin just didn't feel like himself. Offering the Professor a weak greeting, he set about getting his materials ready. |
Text Cut: The Puffs (Ella, Minnie, Alyssa and Oakey) Harvey entered the classroom.. here he was at the first Arithmancy class of his third year.. he had always liked Arithmancy ever since his first year.. so it should be no surprise to see him here.. "Hello Professor Hadley.. how are you?" he asked before he noticed the strange expression that was on the professor's face.. he didnt think he had seen that expression before..so he decided to take a seat and he looked around to see a group of puffs.. well that was where he was headed.. he walked upto them "Hey everyone" he greeted them before sat down in the row in front of them.. he got out the items that the professor had listed on the board.. he took out his text book, couple of pieces of parchment and a quill and black ink bottle and he rearranged these items on his desk.. textbook in top left corner of his table.. ink and quill in the top right.. and parchment in front of him ready to be written on. |
They could never quit Hadley, right? Of course, the 'they' applied to her and Treyen, but just because he wasn't here, didn't mean Ellie was going to neglect their stance. His absence didn't effect her too much, anyway. It wasn't like he ever sat with her. So, like Charms, it was another block of time in a day in a week where she didn't actively miss him. She only did when she thought about how she wouldn't be able to see him after. Anyway. Ellie was here. For once, it seemed like, Hadley was being somewhat normal. Or, at least, not reading a dumb magazine about numbers. "Hey Hadley," the girl greeted her, adding on a finger wiggle. Then she moved to take....not her normal seat, but one right by the open windows. It was nice, the cool air. Besides, she had an amazing view of the back of Treyen's head where she normally sat. So maybe she did actively miss him here, too. |
New shiny badge pinned safely to his robes, Spike stepped through the doorway and ruffled his curls. "Hi, Professor," he said quietly, not wanting to interrupt her reading, but also not wanting to appear rude. He was a 'leader' now, afterall. Which was partly the reason he was here. The other bit was to finally try and understand Arithmancy. The year of his exams was better late than never, right? It wasn't that he wasn't good with numbers - because he could measure and build things easily enough. He just didn't get it, and usually spent more time staring out the window than at his textbook. Today though, he was in the mood to do well. Maybe it was the badge, maybe the threat of his parents and another quidditch ban, or maybe it was his new badge...whatever, he was going to do well and get through his exam at the end of the year. Spotting his Captain, Spike gave her a smile. "Hi Captain, mind if I sit?" Not really waiting for an answer, he slid in to the seat next to Ellie. She'd help make sure he wouldn't get distracted, right? |
SPOILER!!: Student replies "Hello and welcome to another year of Arithmancy," Josephina began, but then looked toward a few of those who this would be their first Arithmancy lesson ever. "Or for those of you who this will be your first Arithmancy lesson, welcome. I'm Professor Hadley," and obviously the Arithmancy Professor. Alright, introductions aside. "In past lessons, we've pretty much worked with one type of Numerological System. But there are two type of numerology systems in existence. What are the two types of systems?" Nice simple question to get them started.... |
Okay then, they were jumping right into questions it seemed. Ella wracked her brains, thinking back to her first lesson with Hadley last term. What were the two types of systems? She knew that one was pythagorean but the other...what was it? Something with a c maybe? She drummed her fingers absently on her parchment while she thought about the answer. After several minutes of finger drumming, Ella had the answer she hoped was correct. The second year raised her hand in the air with a smile. "Professor, I think they're Pythagorean and Chaldean" |
Ira had just settled comfortably into her desk, when the questions started. Well, this time, she was prepared. She had prepared a bit before hand. So as soon as she heard the question, Ira raised her hand up and answered, "Professor the two systems are The Pythagorean Number System and the Chaldean Method" They had studied the Pythagorean System before, right? |
Indy liked Arithmancy. She liked the subject a lot. She knew that Spike wasn't so into it though, so that was why she had her own little text book, and was going to make sure that it was all pretty and stuff. And that she could read from it. Oooh. Question. Indy smiled, as she raised her hand. "The Pythagorean system." That was a big word. hehe. "This system uses the numbers 1 - 9 to represent every letter in the alphabet." And now she was done speaking. Still smiling she put her arm down. |
"There is the the Pythagorean (Agrippan) Method and the Chaldean Method. In the Pythagorean method All the letters correspond to one of the numbers between 1 and 9. The numbers between 1 and nine itself correspond to the various aspects in ones life cycle." Sarah said. She loved numbers... |
OMG, like seriously? Isn't it the same in Muggle Maths? "Professor, there are two types of systems: one is the Pythagorean System, also known as the Agrippan Method and the second is the Chaldean Method," she replied, hoping it was the correct answer. |

She raised her hand up again and answered, "Professor, the Chaldean sysytem uses numbers from 1-8" But why 9 wasn't used, Ira didn't know. "And it is the oldest system right, Professor?" |
Oh. The other one. Indiana looked down at her textbook, turning to that particular page. Hmmm. She read a little bit, before the discovered the answer. With a smile, Indy raised her hand. "That method just uses the numbers 1 - 8, excluding the number 9 that the other method uses. This is because the people who invented the method thought that the number was holy, and so they decided to hold it apart from the other numbers" |
Silvia was glad to be back in arithmancy class; she liked it. She didn't answer the first question since several of the students had already mentioned the correct answer. But she decided to raise her hand for the next question. "I think the Chaldean system uses the numbers one through eight, but doesn't have the number nine like the Pythagorean system." She wondered if there were any differences in the interpretations of numbers since there was one less number in the Chaldean method. |
' I think The Chaldean system does not go until 9, it ends as 8. Yet that will change the 'alphabet' completly as it will make I 9 and not 1, and therefore J 2 and not 1 and so on. ' Sarah said. |

Angelina thought for a while. That was a hard question... She wasn't great with Arithmancy. Finally after figuring out the answer, thinking back to last school year and everything. Raising her hand she said, "Professor the two systems The Pythagorean Number System and the Chaldean Method?" |
SPOILER!!: Such smart students you are <3 "Yes, precisely right! The Chaldean Method uses only the numbers one through eight!" Turning to look at the board, she flicked her wand at the chalk as it drew two overlapping circles on the board. "This, what I've drawn is a venn diagram. It's a useful tool to be able to compare and contrast two or more items." And if they knew her, then they might predict what was coming next. "Your first activity in today's lesson will be to compare and contrast the two Numerological systems. You have 15 minutes." ooc: in real time, you'll have about 10 hours before I post another question =). You can either fill in a Venn Diagrams or just simply do it in list format |
Pythago... Numero... Cha... WHAT was with all these big words? The blank stare that was becoming a habit for every class she attended was on Penelope's face. Seriously? Were these huge words necessary? What did any of them even mean? And then something about which numbers the different things used? They could just pick and choose the numbers they wanted? Did the ones they didn't use just cease to exist? Penelope blinked a couple of times, as if that would help her understand what was being said, but of course it didn't help in the slightest. Seriously, what were all these students talking about? And then suddenly the professor was saying they had to compare them with that circle thing. All Penelope could do was stare. |
Playing catch up. Time zones are badA Alyssa knew the answer to the first question that Professor Hadley had posed the class. It was the Pythagorean or the Agrippan method and the Chaldean. However she was too late to raise her hand to answer that and since the other students basically gave the same answer, she wasn't going to do the same. Then the Professor asked what the Chaldean Number system used. Even though some of the students had already given their answers, Alyssa raised her hand and answered. "Professor the Chaldean Number system is less systematic than the Pythagorean method. It still uses numbers assigned the letters of the alphabet." "However, the letters seem to be randomly assigned to the letters unlike the Pythagorean system and for some reason, the number 9 is not assigned a letter." Then before Alyssa could take a breath, Professor Hadley had posed another question. |
Jen didn't understand what was going on. She just drew 2 circles on her parchment to where they over lapped. Yeah, that's right. Now, what were the 2 systems? |
