Roman continued to cough all the way down the hall. He took a handkerchief out of his pockets with the initials 'RJL' on them. It was faded, stained and old, with frayed ends. It clearly had been through a lot, but it meant a lot to him. "EWW!" he took a quick moment to exclaim. He looked in his handkerchief and there was something green a chunky in it. "Is this normal?" he asked in a raspy voice. Surely something so icky shouldn't be coming out of his body. |

"Um, okay." Cough, cough. He took the phial, "Bottoms up!" He drank it as he tilted his head back. ICK! He imagined his throat looked like a messed up Christmas tree with all the green and red. He coughed a little as he felt it warmly go down his throat and into his stomach. His throat then began to feel very dry and Roman gasped. "Caaaan I geeeet sooooome whaaaaater?" |

This made his feel rather sad, but he took the orange liquid without a word. He took in a deep breath and drank it. ICK! This one tasted worse and he couldn't help, but stick out his tongue. He just wanted the taste to stop! "EWWWWW! This is SO GROOOOOOOSS!" he yelled. He began to fan his tongue with his hands. He then just realized something. "Wait a minute," he spoke normally. "I sound like Roman again!" He tried to smile, but the taste was still in his mouth and it was so disgusting. |
Believe it or not but Cece was actually feeling bad for this little guy. He just looked so miserable. Feeling bad or not though she couldn't stop herself from smiling at his reaction to the second potion. Yeah, she knew it tasted horrible but she also knew it would do the trick. "I know it tastes gross, as you say, but really, it's going to cure that sore throat you have." Or was that the sore throat he had? "Here you go," she said handing him a cup of water. "I think you deserve this now." Reaching in her pocket she pulled out a few peppermints and held them out too. "Take these too. Just pop one in your mouth and suck on it if your throat starts to feel a little scratchy again." Or whenever he just wanted to suck on a piece of candy. See, she wasn't always evil. She could be nice and caring too. |
Ick! "Medicine, why does it have to be so yucky? Why can't it taste like pumpkin juice or butterbeer?" Roman tilted his head to the side like a little puppy. "Tasty medicine certainly would make things easier and I bet more people would come a see you!" He gave a little chuckle and a hiccup. "Pardon me." His cheeks turned bright red with embarrassment. He couldn't help, but beam with excitement with the sight of the water. He took it gratefully and drank it all the way down to the very last drop. It felt cool going down his throat. "Aaaaah, so much better!" It was hard to believe just moments ago he wanted to rip his throat out. "OOOH! Yummy!" Roman gave her back the empty glass in exchange for the peppermint. "Mmmm....you should advertise this more, people would definitely come to see you!" He was absolutely beaming. "Umm, can I ask you one more thing?" Roman stared at the floor. "I have kind of another sickness and I don't know if there's anything to help?" He started swaying side to side. "But, do you have anything for missing your home and family?" |

Besides, how else would she get kids to drink more water... like little Roman here was doing. If they liked the taste of the potions she gave them then they wouldn't want water to wash away the taste. And now he thought she should advertise the peppermints? Again, something she wouldn't be doing. She didn't want kids coming to see her just to get candy either. "I think I'll keep the peppermints just between the two of us. You know, our little secret." What's this, he has another sickness? The poor child. "Well tell me what's wrong and I'll see what I can do to help." Aww, the little guy was homesick. Cece sat on the bed next to him. "I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't. The only thing I can offer you is hug." Placing her arm around him she gave him a motherly type hug. "You know, I have a fireplace in my office. If you'd like, you could use it sometime to talk to your parents." Sure, it's not the same as seeing his family but it was all she could offer him, well that and the hugs. |
The healer did have a good idea. It was such a silly notion and Roman felt a little silly even suggesting it. "Yeah, I had a great uncle that was always making up that he had dragon fever or something weird like that; and would always do to the same healer at least once a week. We all think he was faking it, so he could see her. And I guess it worked, because they married later on!" It was kind of a cute story, but it seemed a little drastic to Roman to get a girl to like you. Ick! Too much of that mushy love stuff! Roman looked at his empty glass. Pity. It was so delicious after his throat went through such a tough time. "Um...could I please have some more miss?" He flashed her a little smile. He hoped he wasn't coming across like a beggar. "Oh awesome!" Roman was ecstatic about his new secret. "Gosh golly! My first secret since I've come to school! You can count on me too keep it!" The healer was actually making Roman feel kinda special. He really never thought he could feel that way at school. He was feeling rather blue lately. For a few seconds of pure bliss, quickly went away at the reminder of home. "Well, you see my mum would always be the one to take care of me when I was sick. She would read me those classic muggle books, like The Count of Monte Cristo or The Three Musketeers and it would just make me feel like I was part of the adventure. Now...well, it's just weird. I miss her and daddy. And my sis...and even my obnoxious older brothers!" As he listed them, the sadder he felt. He just wished this feeling would go away. Roman looked up at her as she put her arm around him with a few tears in his eyes. "It just hurts right here," he said as he placed the right palm of his his hand over the left side of his chest. He gave a slight sniffle, and forced out a smile at her offer. "Really? You'd let me see them?" It was super nice of her to make the offer. "I just don't want you to go out of your way just for me. I'm sure you have tons of other students with more serious problems." He frowned and slumped down. |
Cece refilled the boys cup with water. How could she not when he smiled like that. "Try drinking this one a little slower." As she listened to Roman ramble on she knew that what this child suffered from the most was a case of home sickness. He just needed to feel like someone here cared for him. "Really, you can come by my office this weekend. I'll get in contact with your parents and let them know you'll be contacting them this weekend. That is if you want to." Which she already knew he did. Giving him another hug she smiled down at him. "Don't worry, it's not a problem for me." It was students like this one that she liked to help. "Alright little one, I think you're well enough to go now." Giving him one last hug Cece stood up. "I'll see you this weekend ." That is if he still wanted to get in touch with his parents. |
After the Healer person told her to head to bed four, Elise sighed in relief. Looking at the the row of beds, she walked past each one until she got to bed 4. One. Two. Three... There, Four. Sitting down gingerly on the edge of the bed, she rested her wrist on the pillow. Now she wouldn't risk moving it as much as she would've otherwise... |
This day was never going to end was it. Walking over to bed four Cece looked down at the girls hand that was resting on a pillow. "So what happened to you?" |
Looking up at the healer person, she jumped a little. Well she wasn't expecting her to be back so fast, but she needed to write. "A snargluff vine twisted my wrist," she winced as she tried to move it. Nevermind. I think it's dislocated, she added silently. Well, she was actually just scared of what'd happen if it was dislocated. Would she be able to write and stuff? Taking a look at her wrist, she resisted a shudder. It looked really different compared to her other hand and was beginning to look slightly purple. |
A snargaluff vine, what was this child doing messing with one of those things? The last time Cecelia checked, those plants weren't even introduced to students until their fifth or sixth year. What was with Professor Bentley and having small children working with such dangerous plants? First she gets a little first year with a burn from a fireseed bush, now this. She was definitely going to have to question this woman about her teaching methods... before any more students got hurt because of her lessons... Unless... "What exactly were you doing messing with a snargaluff vine?" Maybe the herbology professor hadn't instructed the younger students to do anything with this plant, maybe this child took it upon herself to mess with a dangerous plant such as this one. Cece did notice the slight discoloration of the girl's wrist but she wasn't too concerned at this moment. She would get to healing it... after she found out why the girl was messing with that plant in the first place. |

See? She wasn't doing anything she wasn't supposed to. She may never actually go near a Snargaluff ever again after this, though... |
"You kinda lost your grip? So in other words, you were messing around and not paying attention to what you were supposed to be doing and you allowed the vine to latch onto your wrist." Really, if the child had been concentrating on the assignment then there would have been no accidents here. |

"Did no one ever teach you how to use your words child? I can't hear your head rattle." Really, if the child wanted to get out of there she was going to have to talk at some point. Cece wasn't a darn mind reader after all. Grabbing the kids arm Cece started to observe it. Yep, it was definitely a little puffy but not too bad. Taking out her wand she pointed it at the girls wrist. "This won't hurt a bit," well Cece wouldn't feel it that is. "Episkey!" There, now all that was left was for the healing to take place... which should happen right about... now. "Go ahead, you should be able to move that wrist now." |
Elise winced a little. "Sorry," she muttered. Her mother always told her to try not to use too many words, because sometimes they hurt. Facing the scary healer person, she smiled a little. Hissing inaudibly in pain as the scary healer person grabbed her arm, Elise bit her lip. Don't show weakness, she reminded herself again. Right, it wouldn't hurt a bit. An episkey later, Elise realized that the healer was right. It didn't hurt a bit. It hurt a lot. Feeling the joint pop back into place, she did little other than closing her eyes tightly. Testing her wrist gingerly, she picked it off the pillow. Twisting it in a full circle, she smiled. It hurt a lot less, and she could write! "Thank you," she smiled at the healer. She should probably learn that charm, for all the other times she fell or something... |
Cece ignored the little sounds Elise was making. She really didn't care if there was pain or not. As long as the child got healed that was all that mattered to her. She wasn't here to play nice with kids that carelessly got themselves injured. Seeing that the kid could move her wrist around in a circle Cece knew she had done her job. The kid was healed. "You're welcome. Now I suggest you get back to classes and this time pay attention to what you are doing." Because next time Cece wouldn't be so nice about things |
Elise cringed at the woman's cold tone inwardly but ignored it. She wasn't there to be nice to Elise anyway. With a quick nod at the scary healer person, she got to her feet. With a final wave at her, Elise all but ran out of the room. There was no way that she would stay in a room with her any longer than necessary. Maybe next time she'd just owl Elysia for a potion. |
With this child finally gone, Cece moved on to the next student needing her attention. |
