Divination Two Lesson Two Who: All students What: The Second Lesson for those who are numerically challenged When: Thursday, 27 October 2011 @ 9pm EST through Monday, 31 October 2011 @ Midnight EST Where: In the newly relocated Divination Classroom on the Ground Floor Other: Bringing your brains and a keen eye might help. Books will not. The room was void of human occupants and Thereos preferred it that way especially when he wanted see into the future but it was now time for him to fulfill his duties as the Hogwarts Divination professor. He waited patiently at the front of the classroom and waited for the students to arrive. |
Selina walked up the winding staircase to reach the Divination room. The third year Seer, which was a fact she only shared with a select few, was not looking forward to this next Divination lesson. She and the Professor did not get off to a good start all because she noticed he was half horse. It also did not help his case that Divination was Selina's favorite subject because it helped give her a grasp on her ability, but he was not making it any fun for her. So when she reached the top step she looked at the Professor and nodded to him, "Hello Professor Thereos." Then she took her seat and put her bag on top of the seat beside herself. That spot was reserved for Kurumi unless... something happened. |
Having ran all the way to the tower by mistake before climbing down the stairs again, Louisa walked into the classroom breathlessly. Nobody was there except for Selina. The Ravenclaw flashed a respectful smile at the Centaur, "Good day, sir Thereos." And then trotted to a free desk offering the Gryffindor a smile, "Hey, Selina." It was polite... and Louisa was in a good mood so why not! |
Victoria strode to the ground floor and into the Divination classroom, which she was told, was not it's original position. When she first came here, she was startled by the fact that the professor was...and still is...a CENTAUR! But now, Victoria's getting used to it. "Good morning professor..." greeted Victoria, a little forgotten about his name. She set her bags down in an empty desk and sat down, waiting for the class to start. |
"Good morning," replied Thereos to the students who arrived on time. "Please take out your parchment, ink and quills so that you may take notes during the lecture." |
Katrina went to Divination. She didn't really appreciate it though, but she was sure to learn a lot. As Katrina went in the classroom, she saw Professor Thereos. "Good morning, Professor" Katrina said with a smile. Oh Merlin, she was the only first year. Oh well. Quote:

Gideon headed down to the divination classroom when the time was approaching for the class to begin. He checkd his watch glad to he wasn't running late despite a late start from the towers. "Good day Professor Thereos," he greeted with a polite nod as he entered and spotted the Centaur as well as the few already gathered there. Turning to had to the seats, he simply smiled at Selina before taking a spot behind her. Having heard the tail end of the instrucions, he tok out parchment and quill and prepared himself for class to begin. |
A lecture? Was he serious? What kind of learning was that? But she kept her mouth closed and did as she was instructed. She folded her hands over her supplies while she waited for him to continue... with his lecture. Yuck. Then Gideon entered the classroom and she smiled coyly at him. When he took the seat behind her she smirked and looked back up at the Professor. |
Kourtney stepped into the classroom where the Divination class would be held, holding her bag tightly. "Hello Professor." She greeted with a smile as she walked to find a place to sit. Removing her parchment and other needed supplies, she waited for the others to file in. They would start soon enough, she hoped. |
"Today you're going to learn about and practice Full Moon Water Scrying," Thereos announced to the class. "Can anyone tell me why we are going to use the full moon?" |
Gideon raised a slight eyebrow at Selina's expression at him before turning his attention back to Thereos as he began class. Listening to the question, he raised his hand to answer. "Because its the time when the night sky is the brightest because of the light being reflected by the moon." It certainly made the most sense and you had to be able to see when you scryed...right? |
Divination was moving so fast. Her Professor was a no nonsense kind of man to begin with, but this was a tad much. Regardless she still answered his question. Selina rose her hand, "Sir would it be because our bodies and minds are somewhat connected to the lunar cycles. So wouldn't it just be logical to use the full moon as a source. Especially if we are going to be doing full moon water scrying? Also, because this form of scrying deals with reflections, so you would have a better chance using the full moon than any other cycle." |
Kourtney slowly raised her hand. The effects of the full moon had been discussed previously in Astronomy so she decided to take a guess at the question. "Sir. We are often said to be more alert during the full moon. I would assume that this would be beneficial in concentrating fully during the scrying exercise. Also the moon is said to exert its own kind of energy, with the full moon holding the most powerful energy." |

He then looked at the rest of the class. "I hope you wrote down what your classmates just said!" Thereos gave them several minutes to write before he continued. "This is the most simplest form of divination and all it requires is a clear sky and a full moon. Its best to do it outside under the light of the full moon. However if you cannot perform this divination ritual on that particular night, it is best to do it the night immediately before or after." Using his own special magic, Thereos enchanted the ceiling above to resemble a clear night sky with a brightly shining full moon. "Write this down," he instructed. "Aside from a clear night sky and a full moon, you'll need the following materials - a flat workspace, a dark bowl, a pitcher containing enough water to fill the bowl, and parchment along with a quill and ink so that you can take notes." "After you've written down the materials needed, please come up to the front of the room to retrieve a bowl and pitcher. Return to your seat and do not fill up the pitcher until I give the directive." |
Kourtney felt very pleased at the point gain for her house, from herself and her two fellow Lions. Jotting down notes, she followed along with the professor's lecture until she noticed the ceiling had been enchanted. Ooo, very peaceful. She started a list, making note of the supplies needed for this particular activity. She then rose from her seat, retrieved the bowl and pitcher as instructed, and then returned to her seat, simply awaiting further speech from the teacher. |
SPOILER!!: Thereos Selina kept her smile bubbling under her skin when he awarded her three points for her answer. Three points was not much, in the grand scheme of things, but it had perked her attitude a little bit in the context of this class. Although she was still not a fan of the new Professor, but he gave her three points so he could not be that bad. Then she remembered why she was not a huge fan. Lecture. She did as she was told and took down all of this notes. Then he instructed that they all grab a pitcher and bowl. Once more she did as she was told and retrieved her supplies. When she returned to her seat she did not do a thing as she was directed. |
Zhenya looked around alarmed. Lesson was already beginning? She had already been seated, unfortunately not having said good morning to Professor Thereos. She must say hello after lesson... She pulled out her parchment and quill, and scribbled down everything that was said. Quote:

Gideon smiled at the responce the centaur gave to the three of them who answered, all Gryffindors he happened to notice, including Selina as well. Every little bit counted. He made sure to play close attention as always to what was being said, especially as Thereos made a point of making sure they noted it down. And when the ceiling was changed, he couldn't help but look up with a smile. He always loved when the enchanted ceiling in the Great Hall showed a clear night sky. Finally having everything down in his notes, the fourth year got up from his seat with the others, to head up to the front of the classroom. One bowl and one pitcher... Check and check he mused to himself as he picked up both items before returning to his desk. Now to await the next part. |
ooc: playing catch up here. Quote:
Before Alyssa even finished answering the Professor's first question, he was already moving on. Like in the last Divination class, Alyssa found herself struggling to catch up with the Professor. She quickly jotted down everything the Professor was saying in class. Quote:
Text Cut: Professor's Instructions Alyssa re-read the last three requirements. "Duh!"she thought to herself. "I guess the Professor is being facetious here". Once she was done writing, she quickly went forward and retrieved a bowl and a pitcher and returned to her desk and waited for further instructions. |
Ashley wrote down everything he figured was important, looking over his notes and adding more when he was done. He wanted to make sure he hadn't missed anything, since he didn't want to have to ask later. Once he was done, he went up and got a bowl and pitcher as instructed, heading back to his seat with the items. |
They were doing something that had to do with water. That didn't sound like using fire at ALL! Nevertheless, Evelyn sat there with her quill and parchment out, ready to take notes like instructed. She didn't like this form of divination. Nope. Not only was it water, which was the opposite of fire, apparently they had to be outside to do this. Did the Professor even know how cold it was outside? Did centaurs feel the weather differently? Did that even make sense? Slowly writing everything down, she sighed quietly before getting up and retrieving one of the bowls and pitchers before sitting back down again. Do not fill up the pitcher. Got it. She'll just stare at it instead. And...maybe poke it a little with her quill. |
Numerically challenged students --- that was Tori. She had no idea why every divination class involved water and bowls and reflections and every other class involved moons. Weird. Tori scampered up and grabbed a pitcher and stuff and then returned to her seat. |
Merlin Thereos was moving class along fast today. Kurumi just about registered that the lesson had begun before he had moved past the first question and onto instructions. When he told them to write things down, he quill immediately moved to her parchment and began scribbling things as quickly as possible. Aside from a clear night sky and a full moon, you'll need the following materials - a flat workspace, a dark bowl, a pitcher containing enough water to fill the bowl, and parchment along with a quill and ink so that you can take notes... Well, he had said to write down what he was saying, yes? Setting her quill down, Kurumi got out of her seat and retrieved her bowl and pitcher before returning to her seat. The moon...they were discussing the moon again and not just any moon...the FULL moon. Two classes now that this had been the focus. Kurumi was now having flashbacks to her second term where everything focused on the non-magical world. Interesting...very interesting... |

Later, when she was done scribbling she stood up and retrieved a bowl and pitcher. She waited for the Professor further instructions. |
If you just arrived, please continue to gather what's needed "Is there anyone who'd like to share with the class the spell you'd use to fill your pitcher with water? Please include the correct wand movement so that the younger students don't destroy the stoneware," Thereos said. |
