Penny was slightly disappointed she had gotten the answer wrong.... Vowing to do better this time... 19: Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, immediacy. "Penny did you just combine the characteristics of 1 and 9? I remember the Professor telling us to just do that and not take 19 as a whole number or add 1 plus 9 to get 10 or 0. If you did the first part, then I believe that your answer is the same as mine. Since 1's characteristics are leadership, ambition, strong will power, courageous, inventive and creativity and 9's is idealistic, global awareness and the betterment of it, compassion and generosity. I think that the basic characteristics of the number 19 is a combination of the both. Leadership and ambition, coupled with global awareness, compassion and generosity makes for a very philantrophic person with leadership qualities,"Alyssa concluded. "What do you think, Penny? Am I on the right track?," Alyssa asked Penny hoping that she was right. |

"I suppose we're done... for now, aren't we?" She grinned, taking another quick look at her notes. Yup, they found all the meanings, more or less, so they were done. Hehe. |
Mind if I? Quote:
Finally spotting Louisa, Gwendolyn approached her, and then said curtly: 'Still need a partner?' Hopefully... or I'll have to find someone else... |
*claims* For Gwen too! ^_^ Quote:
"So... Let's see what we've got here." The fourth year looked down at the parchment, "The first number is nineteen which's the combination of number one and number nine." The girl dragged her textbook closer so both of them could see and pointed at the numbers, "We can combine their characteristics to become one." She gave the girl a thoughtful look, trying to know whether she got it or not. "One's are Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership whereas nine's are Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy. We can combine them to become.." Pause. "..short-lived independence. Or the beginnings of the endings." Louisa said in an uncertain tone. "Anyway.." She gained her confidence quickly and continued, "Let's do more." Smiling Louisa started, "Two's properties are Harmony, unity, relationships, collaboration, duality, humans/human magic. Eight's are Authority, finances, business, success, material wealth, self-mastery, complex thought/reasoning, fluidity. Twenty eight might be..." mutely mumbling the girl wrote, "Harmony between authority and self-mastery." That sounded... deep and hard to understand but it worked, right? Louisa's head moved to see that the girl she'd met at the old ship last term was asking for a partner. "Of course. You can join us." She scooted away offering the girl to get her chair and sit next to them. "Here's what I did." She gave the girl, whose name was out of her head at the moment, the parchment. SPOILER!!: Parchment |

His jaw dropped as Adanna started to speak. She IS a Hufflepuff right ? not a Ravenclaw? Daichi checked her badge and did indeed see a badger . Odd . "That was...brilliant..." he said after a moment silence and decided to write HER idea on the parchment. Quote:

"She did say that they were combining the meaning of the numbers instead of adding them to get final answer right?" She read over her notes: SPOILER!!: parchment "And these are the numbers we're trying to figure out: SPOILER!!: numbers Quote:
"Sure sit down." She turned back to her parchment , tapping her quill against her lips, looking at possible combinations. "So then 19 might be SPOILER!!: answer? |

Glad to be finished Jesifur slouched back in her seat. Arithmancy was hard, but it was easier with a partner to help work it all out. She turned to Nora and said, "Thanks so much for being my partner, I was so lost at the beginning, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now." |
SPOILER!!: Louisa! Taking a seat, Gwendolyn looked at the piece of parchment Louisa had given her. Riiight... this doeasn't sound so easy..., she thought, while scanning the text. Some of these might be better if we would change them... a bit, she wanted to suggest, but didn't. After all, she really didn't wish to upset the other 'Claw. 'Aham', the second year replied curtly. Well, I'm not gonna contest what you have done... I'll do the nest two numbers. But I don't guarantee I'll manage to do something right... 'Right... so 37? 3 is Imagination, positivism, playfulness, creative expression, house elves/house elf magic, complex thought...But.. House elves?!?!?' O_________________o Really- house elves? Why? Anyway... 'aaand 7 is Analysis, research, solitude, wisdom, spiritual focus, investigative, mysticism, magic. Then combining them... we would get what? Analysis of imagination? investigating creative expressions? Research about house elves?!?! I don't get it', she admitted, and gave a sigh. |
SPOILER!!: Masive quote Luna looked around and a fourth year was motioning for her to come over ''Oh i'm Luna'' she smilied, Oh god rocket science... She stood there and nodded dumbly she got it but why did Arithmancy have to be just one ever lasting problem ''Right!'' she nodded and looked in at the paper |

Harvey smiled broadly "Of course I want to be partners." Finally a class where he actually gets to work with Minnie. :claw: |
Simon sat there, half asleep if someone wanted to work with him then they would have to nudge him and then ask him, because if they didn't he would probably ignore them, this was a subject he was hoping to drop after this year even though Professor Hadley was teaching it, it didn't make up for the fact that it was boring and very hard to understand. |
SPOILER!!: Davvy_Wavvy Marilyn read over Cassie's parchment, smirking. "I like the first..."
"Innovation brings change..."
Marking that down on her own papers, she turned back to the text. Reading over the characteristics of 2 and 8 again, the blonde attempted to meld them together. "Okay, this is what I've got for 28..."
""Harmony within unity, and collaboration...bring about success and self-mastery.
Turning to the small Ravenclaw, Marilyn smiled. "Are you understanding what we're doing? We're basically taking the characteristics of both numbers and meshing them together..." |
Text Cut: Gwen & Luna ^_^ Louisa smiled back at Luna. "Would you like to try and do a number, Luna?" The girl couldn't help the too sweet tone her vocal cords seemed to produce whenever a younger student, a kid, talked to Louisa. It was kind of ridiculous sometimes. Anyways, the girl from the old ship tried to do seventy three. Louisa followed her process and nodded. "I don't get the result, either. But I think you did pretty well." She smiled, "We can make it more catchy I think. How about Positivism of solitude? Or House-elves mysticism?" With a smirk Louisa met both girls' eyes. SPOILER!!: Parchment (not changed yet) |
Ashley wrote down what had been said, and took notes on the numbers given. He was never good at getting a partner when one was needed, and as he looked around, he figured today was going to be just the same. So he just settled in for more writing, trying to work on the problems on his own, hoping that he wouldn't get in trouble for being alone. |
Simon suddenly had an idea. "Professor since no one wants to be my partner can I leave?" He didn't expect it to work but it was worth trying. |

"Sure," he said, in a somewhat brighter tone than his body language suggested. He hoped that wouldn't create a problem. People often misinterpreted what he meant because of things like that. "I thought everyone already had a partner," he continued with a small smile as he began writing again, since the partnering up was for an assignment, so he wanted to get to work quickly. Still, he thought it would be good to at least introduce himself. "I'm Ashley, by the way." |
Sorry for the lame post - I'm fighting a migraine right now :( Quote:
Penny really did feel bad, that she couldn't contribute better to the partnership. SPOILER!!: Interpretations |
Pokes Evelyn to be Marie's partner Quote:
Well the only person in this room that she would even consider working with was Evelyn. Looking over at her friend she was glad to see she didn't have a partner yet. "Hey Ev, you wanna work on this together?" She didn't see Josh anywhere so it was a pretty good chance that she would say yes... right? |
Quote:
Pulling out her quill, she eyed the first number. "Okay...19, so the 1 means beginning...independence..innovations. And 9 means...ending...tolerance...perfection, just to name a few, so the number 19 would mean..." She blinked. This was hard. "Beginning of the end?" |
Quote:
"Hmmm?" Not even looking up, she tilted her head towards Marie a little bit before continuing with making another dragon. "Yea, sure." ... Wait. "What are we doing?" Blink. |

"This is what I've written down so far," he said as he nudged the parchment over. He'd figured the best way to start would be to list the characteristics, then find a way to put them together individually. After that, he would try to make some sense out of it all together, but he hadn't gotten that far yet. SPOILER!!: Notes "I think I wrote that down, actually," he realized, somewhat amused, even though really, everyone probably came up with that one. It's still an interesting coincidence to him. |
ooc:no worries. I'm getting one just trying to figure this out:D Quote:
“Okay here’s what I’ve come up with so far. I know that it doesn’t make much sense, but hopefully I’m not too off the mark.” Alyssa leaned over to share her notes with Penny, hoping that her friend would feel better soon. Text Cut: “Hmmm…I guess 28 could mean that you could have power, strength and authority but if you don’t balance it by working together and providing support, you won’t get very far….or at least that’s what I think 28 means”, Alyssa thought to herself. “28 down. Now for 37”, Alyssa thought to herself. She hoped that Penny was still with her. Text Cut: Alyssa pondered over the numbers and their meanings before writing down what she thought the characteristics of 37 meant. "I was thinking of the words, Trinity, union of divine, spiritual, creative!! I was wondering whether it meant that it order for one to find their creative and spiritual inner self in the wizarding world, one needs to be interconnected with life, nature and mankind’s place in the universe.” “Does that make sense so far. I figured that if I really did know the correct answers, I wouldn’t be in Arithmancy class, right?,”Alyssa grinned at Penny. “Better to guess than not guess at all”. Text Cut: “Okay this isn’t getting easier is it?,”Alyssa said to Penny, shaking her head. “Anyway, I think that the characteristics of 52 could mean that in order to be creative and imaginative in whatever one is doing, one needs to be patient and adaptable to possible changes that might crop up. One should also not just be satisfied with one solution, but should always strive to experiment and explore more possibilities, even if it involves partnering with someone else or going against your own beliefs.” "Okay and we're down to our last number, 80". Text Cut: “I think that the characteristics of 80 mean that the possibilities of achieving one’s goal is limitless. One just has to have the self-discipline and the inner strength to achieve it.” "Whew! and that's what I've got. Whether it makes sense or not, your guess is as good as mine". |
Does anyone need a partner? ;) Well... But did not he mentioned that too? Kinda...maybe. Eh. Whatever. It did not matter anyway. It was obviously a combination of the meanings. Good. Now he needed to figure out the meanings for those numbers Hadley had shown...with a partner. Taking a breath, he turned around to look at Evelyn yet Marie was talking to her which meant they were already partners. Okaaaaaaaaaaay. Then he would look for another partner. ''HEY PEOPLE!!! I NEED A PARTNER, PLEASE!!!'' Was that loud enough? Hehehehehe... |
Simon looked at the Professor again. "Why does no one want to work with an idiot like me do they think I will bite?" Simon really wanted to go now so he could find some quiet corner and cry, he didn't ask to leave again since he had already asked once. |
