Library Reference Desk

A large desk sits near the entrance of the library. This is where the librarian, Madam Donovan, usually sits, keeping an eye out over her domain, and its prominent placement makes it clear that students are welcome to approach her if they require assistance. You won't necessarily have to ask for help, however; a large tome on a nearby stand, full of extensive records of past teachers, prefects, awards, champions, and all kinds of events of the long history of Hogwarts, is often the first - and easiest - way to look for information. Feel free to consult it, but be mindful of its age. This book may not be removed from the library unless under the specific instruction from the librarian.

A further large collection of shelves, not unlike the others around the library, stretches out behind the librarian's desk. The books it holds make up the library reference section. A complete inventory of all the books in the library, they are not to be taken out of the room, but you are welcome to use them in here.

Remember, the librarian is nearby if you need help.

Dylan sighed. First thing after breakfast he was in the library. He wasn't a Ravenclaw, and wasn't intending to spend all his time here. But he needed to start. NEWTs this year. This was a bad bad time. He approached the librarian's desk. He wanted to go sit in the restricted section to read. He wanted to look into human transfiguration. That was in the restricted section. "Um. Excuse me."

Liisa 09-03-2010 06:59 PM

The librarian was sitting quietly at her desk, reading a large, heavy-looking book. The pages were fragile and not in the best shape but she handled each with care, turning them slowly.

She was right in the middle of reviewing a rather small photograph when she heard someone moving towards her.

Hearing his voice, Kimber finally glanced up. With a slight mutter of irritation, she closed her book. "Yes?"

city_girl_95 09-03-2010 07:24 PM

Amy walked into the libarary, she thought she should start the term off well and had decided to try and get some points, she walked up to the counter, hello professor she said politley, would you like any help today? she asked, if she said no she needed to get a book none the less

eliza22 09-04-2010 11:26 PM

Eliza smiled shyly as she approached the Librarian's desk. She wanted to get a book... and she had NO idea where it would be kept. At all. So, she was going to ask. It seemed the logical explanation. Glancing down at the list in her hand, she smiled at the woman again

'Good morning' she said brightly, giving her a little wave 'Uhm... I was wondering if you could help me find a book. Two, actually. One is called The Exact Science of Astronomy, and the other... I think it is something along the lines of Runes and Ancient Heiroglyphs' she said shyly.

Riley had walked through the Library, staring at the large shelves of books on all subjects. This place had WAY more books than that book shop in Diagon Alley. The fifteen year old made his way towards the large desk that had the figure of a woman reading a book behind it. A very good bet would be that she was the Librarian.

So walking up to her, glancing around annoyed at all the other people there (this was a LIBRARY! Did they have to be...well they weren't really making noise, but they did get on his nerves somehow) He approached her desk and could tell she was annoyed too. "Good day, looks like people are mistaking this place as a chocolate frog give away eh?" he sneered, they couldn't be trying to read would they?

Dylan's eyes widened as he saw the book drop. She was gorgeous. And not very old either. "I...uh..." He blinked, trying to remember why he was here. "Restricted section" Great just say random phrases at the hot librarian. He took a deep breath. "I would like to read some books in the restricted section. Please." Finally.

longanna99 09-06-2010 07:28 PM

anna approached the librarian. "Excuse me?" She said trying to get her attention. "I have this pass to go into the restricted section of the library!" She handed the note over that read...

Madam Donovan eyed the girl suspiciously. She was obviously trying to earn some quick housepoints. Pfft! She wasn't buying that innocent, little smile. "I am not a professor," she snapped back.

She gave her impeccably clean library a quick glance before turning back to face the Hufflepuff. "Does it look like I need help?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Without a word, Kimber quickly scratched HERBOLOGY onto a square of parchment. When she tapped it with her wand, it folded itself into a paper butterfly and flew around the girl's head. "Follow it," she instructed. "It will lead you to the right section. Just be sure to dispose of it when you're through. I will not be bothered with scraps of paper littering my floors."

Ah! Finally someone with a purpose!

But she if she was asking for Kimber to lead her by the hand... well then, she was asking for too much. "The books are organized by topic. Do you need someone to point them out for you?" Before the girl could answer, Madam Donovan, waved another student closer.

Maybe when she was less busy she'd offer guided tours but for now...

"Yeah, yeah, the Library's crowded," she said dismissively. "Take this person to find her books. Apparently she needs help."

The librarian looked expectantly and held her hand out. "And where is your permission slip?" she asked finally. Surely he knew the rules by now.

Kimber took the permission slip from the girl and threw a quick glance towards the older boy.

"Very well," she said as she started towards the back room.

Ok, Amy said slightly taken aback, well then Miss, she added the extra empahsis on the "miss", she put the heavy potions book on the libarary desk, I'll get these out, please, she made sure she said please, you have to keep your manners with teachers after all

A permission slip? Dylan frowned. "I am a seventh year. I want to research some things I may need in the Triwizard Tournament." He couldn't get permission for that.

Kimber visibly cringed at the use of the word "miss". It seemed her wedding ring went quite unnoticed by students as well as nosy professors. "It's probably best if you just hold your tongue," she muttered, opening the book's back cover. She tapped it with her quill and then pushed it back across the desk. "Your book is due back in two weeks."

"A seventh year," she repeated. "Then you should know better. There will be no admittance without prior written permission. I suggest you use this time to seek out a willing teacher," she said, reopening her book at last. "Good day to you."

city_girl_95 09-07-2010 04:04 PM

Thank you Amy said, only now just noticing the wedding ring, oh that was embarrasing, she turned away and put the book in her bag, hastily speed walking out of the libarary, still very embarassed

"How about you give me permission," Dylan smiled at her. He attempted a seductive cute smile. He didn't care she was married. She was CUTE!

The glare she shot him could have frozen hell's fires. She was NOT amused. "I said, GOOD. DAY."

Dylan smiled. Ooooo she was even cuter when she glared at him like that. "Good day to you too, ma'am. How about you make it an even better day, and escort me to the restricted section," he gave her a small wink. Oh yeah.

Liisa 09-07-2010 06:03 PM

With permission. : )

Quite calmly, Kimber laid her down her book back (again!) and drew out her wand. She directed it at the presumptuous boy's head and gave it an upward, arching flick; swiftly removing his eyebrows.

Then she leaned forward and said in a low, icy voice, "Leave now or those eyes will never wink again."

Dylan watched her put her book down. YES! She was going to take him to the restricted section. It was like a cute date in the bookshelves. Away from prying eyes. Then she lifted her wand. That wasn't good. With a rip he felt the hair disappear from his eyebrows. OW! How could she? He would have to see how bad that looked later.

"Are you threatening me ma'am?" he said, raising his hairless eyebrows. What would she do? "You are welcome to leave with me. I could do with some company."

Kimber gave the boy a menacing smile. Threaten him? HA! Kimber Donovan did NOT threaten. Warned maybe. "What is your name?" she asked in a sickeningly sweet voice.

Dylan smiled. He knew she would come round. They always did. "Denver, ma'am. Dylan Denver." And her name?

"D...d...detention?" She had given him detention! Dude that is totally uncool. He stormed off. Stupid hot woman. Stupid dungeons. Stupid detention.

Luna Laufghudd 09-07-2010 10:53 PM

Lots of stairs and even more long corridors. But, she had made it. Atleast, Maya thought she had...a room that smelled dusty and full of books - this was the library, right?

While walking briskly up to the desk, she looked around, trying to see anything else that looked like a place where you could ask for information. Nothing. The Mexicana was content with asking right here. "Excuse me." Time to get friendly, because she was not going to be talking to a student. Thank Guacamole.

Riley was thinking he was going to get along with this woman Library crypt-keeper until she began to order him around like a servant boy. His mouth literally dropped when she told him to escort this snot-nosed firstie?! Gross. He looked at her vehemently and then grabbed the girl's probably germ infested hand and pulled her along with him.

"Come on...what's your name?" he had to call her something, and besides the name he would pick out for her would probably not suit her aswell as her real one. She had better speak quickly. "What is it that you need anyway? And you better not just say 'a book' because I might just have to throw down right here in the Library." That Libriarian did NOT know who she was ordering around! *simmers*
