Amy raised a shaky hand
"we can always be aware of our surroundings and always carry you wand on your person, and always be ready to defend yourself from any attacks"
she said this nervously, and she then returned to writing notes
when she heard they'd be continuing tomorrow she gathered her stuff and headed for the training room

Muggle scouts, ahh stupid boys with pen knifes and knots, well Amy said, putting up her hand, the scouts always have a backup plan, but they'd always pack things like a pen knife and rope, so for us it would be, always have our wands she said in her normal tone, the Headsmaster really wasn't that scary, everyone was a lier evidently. But they also have a back up and our back up would be something like, knowing non verbal spells, knowing escape routes and if worst came to the worst, knowing enough muggle defence techniques, I mean most wizards wouldn't be used to someone begining to punch them or running away she finished, putting her arm down and ducking down in case she had completley failed

Jay put his hand up, "Amy is right, they would have to learn wandless techniques, even Accio, then they can at least summon there wand, or if they are good enough they can defend themselves, Its like it would be harder to attack somebody if they shoot spells at you, if they are non verbally and wandlessly shooting spells at you, your more likely to fall back because it takes great wizards to... doesnt it?" he stated, not really knowing what he was talking about, then putting his hand down quickly and then looking around hoping no one else thought he screwed up.

URGH! This lesson wasn't as easy as she thought it'd be. She stretched a bit and shifted in her seat starting to concentrate more on the topic with a quill in her hand. She could use some 'constant vigilant' right now... if she knew what the heck that meant.

She glances towards the students and saw some really bright and nice answers. She didn't have any so she continued to listen. Know what that meant? MORE library and LESS housetree. Meh.

Oh. Um... okay? Thought was held.

Ha. GlitterPuff.

If situations had been changed slightly, and Kellen were the one to be called something that ridiculous, he could only imagine that he'd be beyond indignant. As it was, it was pretty amusing just watching this Fletcher boy react.

There was a carefully neutral tone on Kellen's face as Neptune gave her contribution to the class. While he couldn't exactly fault her thinking, because pairs or even groups sounded like a good idea to him, he wished she wouldn't have started giggling again. The only problem seemed to be that the switch only went two ways: giggle or pout.

Though he did feel the need to clarify, "There's a difference between working in a pair and having a human shield, though. One implies teamwork. The other suggests someone's going to wind up as cannon fodder."

Which... hadn't he had a conversation like this with Arya?

It was the first lesson of the year, so Brielle had expected it to feel weird, but just not this weird.

So far she had known the answers to all the asked question, and even though so far it was merely a class discussion, Brielle could not make herself speak, and put forth her suggestions. It all boiled down to the fact that she felt that in a way, but answering she would be robbing the Hogwarts students a chance to have a go. And this was rather surprising to Brielle, she was normally the one to answer first, to have her hand in the air the moment the teacher's final word passed through their lip. But up till this moment she had remained silent.

Her parchment was covered with dot pointed notes, but she still thought she would wait to talk.....perhaps in the practical section I will show off she smiled to herself.

Arabella-Marie had been sat taking loads of notes and not sure what some of the answers well and looked about at her classmates and tried to think what muggle scouts would use to protect themselves and wasnt sure what some of the things were

Daniel was sitting in the second to back row. He always sat in rows acording to how involved he wanted to be or how much he liked the subject. He didn't like DADA that much. Not because the fighting and stuff wasn't fun more because he didn't know anything so he didn't think there was any point in sitting at the front. And they were doing a discussion today. So Daniel leaned back and relaxed.

He finially decided to answer a question so the headmaster didn't think he was dozing off or something. He listned and waited for a question. He heard the question but before answering he looked around for glitterpuff. What kind of nickname was that?He had expected to see a girl but instead it was a boy. Ha. He'd make fun of him but he was in a class. The boy looked strangley familiar like he'd seen him before. Meh. It probably wasn't anyone important. He didn't know a Fletcher.

Back to the question. " Well it's just going the extra mile isn't it? Always carry your wand and maybe a small sneakoscope. Be extra careful and have your eyes peeled for anyone suspicious or someone that doesn't like you. They might try and attack you. Then of course there is practising. You have to practice defensive spells and offensive spells. If you duel someone make sure you know the location. Know escape routes and perhaps objects you could use in the fight. " That was a very good answer. He better get ten points for that

Fee was listening carfully to every word the professor said.
"Ummm.. we can be prepared by looking who is around and changing from left side to right or go down a side road if we have a feeling of someone following or watching us. Dont take ways trough woods when you are alone. Especially not when its dark", she said after raising her hand. Fee was quite unsure about that but she hoped it would be right.

Enya so far had been quite in the class - bit change for her it seems - but now she felt she should speak up. What could she get wrong? She was a good student. She'd been told she was. Ha. To all those who weren't. She smiled while she thought out the answer. How could she always be prepared for....umm...for what? She actually hadn't been listening. Opps! Enya bit her bottom lip. Was it war? Be prepared for a war? Or something like that...hmmm.

After a few minutes what the Prfessor had asked came back to her, she giggled. Scout's? GlitterPuff? What were they? They sounded really funny to her! Ha. Enya was still giggling when she put her hand up in the air. She could at least guess an answer right? Yeah. And she was being polite, she'd put her hand up!

"Always carry your wand. I mean you'd be really stupid not to have it on you" She said first to the Professor, she really didn't care if she was rude, but it was the truth! You would be! "And....and...." She thought some more! ,"If you have a wand you really don't need anything else, because you can summon it to you" Enya added proudly folding her arms, she leant back in her chair.

But then she thought, wait there was something else she needed to say. Something you couldn't do with a wand. What was it? What was it? Oh Yeah! "You also need Food and Drink!" She added jumping slightly in her seat.

Alice was very excited to be in this class. She didn't know anything about spells but figured it was always good to know spells to protect herself. She took an open seat, looking around the room, before focusing her attention of Professor Tate. Alice wasn't really sure about participating in the first class, since she was only a first year and didn't know much, so she merely pulled out some parchment and a writing utensil, and listened to Professor Tate and the other students.

Muggle scouts? What a peculiar phrase. Was he referring to police men? And who in the world was Glitterpuff? Alice thought for a moment about how a policeman would handle a tough situation....Alice raised her hand, deciding the worst thing that could happen was she would get wrong. "Well Professor I think it's important to make sure you are armed with your wand, and have at least some idea of the area around you, as well as an estimate as to how many people or creatures you might be dealing with?"

Rex raised his hand.We can be vigilant by knowing where where are surroundings are all the time." Rex told the teacher.

Rubiey had been ferverantly taking notes on the lesson; steam was practically rising from her pen. She looked up; she was scared to participate, but she desperately wanted to. She timidly raised her hand.

"Sir, I think that if you know your immediate area, and always keep your wand handy, then you can always be vigilant. As you already said, you have to be expecting the worst, especially when you're in an unknown area. That way, you are, well, always prepared for any iminent danger." She explained, steadily growing redder and redder.

Hugo had been quiet for the entire lesson, taking notes and looking around. He didn't follow it quite well, and he needed to prove himself.

Riley was a bit confused on what Headmaster Tate meant by muggle scouts...did he mean someone that went and looked for them? Because, in Riley's honest and open-minded opinion...that was just plain DUMB! They were everywhere! London is a whole city of them for crying out loud.

Well apart from the idea of a who career devoted to trying to scout out muggles, Riley did think he had an answer for the how to stay vigilant part of the question. "Headmaster, a good way to stay vigilant is to be well versed in sheild and basic defensive spells. You don't want to be jumped and not have anyway to protect yourself, also a good idea would be to not go snooping around in places you shouldn't." he said with a nod. "Well unless you are supposed to for some reason." the gryffindor shrugged.

Victoria knew that she had to make lots of notes because she would need them for your O.W.L. exams.

Arabella-Marie continued to take down notes and thought of something that could be of good use in protection and raised her hand and said "You could protect yourself by not going looking for trouble or sneeking about places that you shouldn't be" Arabella-Marie knew that it might have already been said but she wanted to get some points

Victoria raised her hand and said "You could use a full body bind or jelly leg curse to distract your enemy!"

Muggle Scouts and the GlitterPuff? Mmmmmmmkay..

Ella sat there, motionless for a good few minutes, but then decided to think about it. Because there was nothing wrong with contributing your opinion. It was what classes were all about actually. Vigilance. Vigilance. Reluctantly, she raised her hand.
"You should make sure that you have good defence and protection first.. then use all your senses to be aware of your surroundings. That would make you see any potential danger easier.." If you had that down, then vigilance would be easy, right?

Vigilant... Vigilant... Jason thought hard through his memories, he had once been told by his father to remain vigilent... He had also said to expect the unexpected and always have a wand close at hand. Jason decided to approach the Teacher with this answer, he raised his hand and said, "Well, umm - You should always expect the unexpected and have a wand close at hand." Jason felt extremely pleased with this answer, and felt it had done him well...

Taking notes and being quiet was Daisy's forte, but sometime she'd have to speak. "Well being prepared for the unexpected is always a good way to be vigilant. Have the tools needed at hand, like a wand for instance."

Adeline sucked on her chocolate ink while she was thinking. "Umm, with are wand and smarts and umm a book?" she said stupidly. She wasn't good at being 'prepared'. She isn't that type of girl, well thats what she thinks and what the heck is a GlitterPuff? "Whats a GlitterPuff?" she asked with a twisted look on her face.

Vashti was trying to finish up the notes she was scribbling down as all the students answered the Headmaster's questions, but Merlin, there was so much to write down! Her hand was cramping already! As she finished up the last few phrases, she considered the last question Headmaster Tate had asked. She really wanted to answer something. Finally, she raised her hand and said, "It's always best to never underestimate your enemy. Just because they don't look like they're capable of doing much harm doesn't mean they can't."

Delilah raised her hand. "First off, in order to be prepared, you would need to have a wand on you at all times." That was really all she knew. She really wished she knew more, but, hey, isnn't that why she was here? To learn more? Delilah really hoped she didn't look like a complete idiot by pointing out the obvious answer. She went back to taking notes on what everyone else was saying.

Liz giggled a bit. 'GlitterPuff.'
She put her quill down and flexed her hand. She had always taken too many notes, and this class was no exception. Nope, nope, nope!
Ever so slowly, she raised her cramping hand in the air. Liz never answered questions, even if she knew them, but she had decided to become a new, bolder person. Well, at least for a while...
"To be prepared could mean to always have a wand and know your spells. And knowing the people around you and your situations is vigilant."
She took a deep breath and decided that maybe that wasn't so hard.

Hmm, Evelyn didn't have a CLUE what a scout thing was. Sounded dangerous to tell the truth. But, well, if she didn't know about it, then she hadn't seen one...ultimately meaning she hadn't been near one. GOOD! She didn't want to be near one anyways.

However, she did think of something that could be usefuuuuulllll for the future minds of [s[taking over[/s] the world!!

"You should travel around in groups!" Of 3 or more of course. Who cared about pairs. Pfft. Not only is it more intimating (pssh yea it was), but then you have extra pairs of eyes with you wherever you go! "Including what everyone else said...having an few extra pair of eyes with you wherever you go, you could be three times as vigilant. Or get like, one of those eye things that Mad-eye moody had."

Just to freak the people out you know? No one wants to attack someone with a creepy eye staring at you. And you could make it spin right? 360 degrees? Make your enemy dizzy and sick to their stomach! It was a perfect idea.

Hmm.... be prepared? "I guess know a lot of spells and the such, because sometimes the most ridiculous and seemingly useless spells can do the most in certain situations," Selena offered as she raised her hand. And what was a GlitterPuff? It sounded like something she didn't want to know about. Because it was glitter. Glitter was all... sparkly and weird. "Or just always be with some people or a pet or something, because sometimes a dog or something can detect things you can't," Selena added.

maisie took note, after note, after note. she was used to taking long notes from her old school. however, the magical people used big words. bigger than her hometown did. and she was quite frightened her professor would be angry with her if she asked him what vigilant meant. she took a few seconds thinking about whether of not she should ask him. she finally decided that she didnt want to be confused anymore and that she would just go for it, so, as she raised her hand she tried her best to hide the fear on her face and replace, she knew she looked stupid, and that everyone could tell she nervous as she asked, "forgive me, sir, but what does vigilant mean?" she was glad she had done it, but she felt guilty for asking such a stupid question. "im sorry to suddenly change the subject sir, but im rather confused." she gave him a slight smile, hoping this would make up for her stupidity.

"Great," Tate held up his hands after letting the students offer their ideas for quite a while. "Let me try to sum up the general theme that I think we've run across." His wand seemed to appear from nowhere, and he traced words across the board.

Tate observed the list for a long moment before turning back to the class. "Feel free to elaborate within your own notes. Now, I'd like to take a moment to elaborate on a few of these points before we venture into the practical portion of our lesson. Who has their wand on them today?"

Arabella-Marie noted down what the headmaster said and took the time to make sure that the list and raised her hand and said "I have my wand on me sir"

Ella jotted down notes as the Headmaster wrote them up on the board. Wow, there were lots of things to consider to be vigilant. Hm. Once she had written all those down, she looked around the class then raised her hand in the air.
"I have, sir." Well.... who wouldn't bring their wand to a DADA lesson? *shrug*

Trixie raised her hand as Headmaster/Professor/whatever he wanted to be called, asked whether the students had their wands. Well obviously she did, Trixie didn't ever go without her wand. "I do" the girl smiled back politely. You never knew when you might need your wand, and well this WAS magic school wasn't it? A wand was kind of, well essentially really if you wanted to learn....magic. The Blonde looked back down at the notes she had just made with a bit of a shrug. Strange question but she'd go along with it.

Selena quickly jotted down the notes in her notebook, spacing everything so she had room to add detail and stuff later. When she looked back up she raised her hand up. "I have my wand on me, professor," Selena said.

Adeline scribbled down the noted with her black ink. She raised her hand showing she brought her wand. She was used to that in muggle elementry school.

...Seriously?

Raising a brow as she looked up from writing her notes, Evelyn stared at the Headmaster for a moment before glancing around at everyone else to see...if anyone actually didn't bring their wand. Oh, she would be getting a new target today if someone didn't bring it.

On the other hand though, she had hers tucked safely in her sleeve. Smiling at the thought, the girl quickly finished up her notes before leaning back in her seat, smirking. This...wasn't a trick question was it?

Luckily Brittany hadnt forgotten her wand. This was the first time he was actuallygoing to use it... well at least she hoped it was. She raised her hand. "I have mine." she said brightly

Victoria put her hand up and said "I have my wand in my pocket Professor!" She wrote down the list from the blackboard.

Zane reached beneath his robes and pulled his yew wand out of it's sheath. "I have mine on me also Professor." he said, laying it on his desk.

"I think your classmates have done a fair job answering that question. To be vigilant is to be prepared, in all those ways listed on the board. Does that help?"

"Right," Tate actually gave the girl a small smile. "You all SHOULD, and you won't get much else out of this lesson if you do not. Let me clarify the question... where IS your wand?"

Arabella-Marie looked at the headmaster and said "My wand is in my holster that is securily tightened on my wrist"

The last question must have been rhetorical. Who didn't carry there wands with them at all times, especially with the craziness that happened in the castle. Arya finished jotting down the last of the words on the board before replacing her quill with her wand, twirling the dark wood between her fingers as she looked to Tate, ready for whatever they would be doing next.

"Shouldn't we keep that to ourselves just incase of evil meanie bobinies" Adeline said with a serius look on her face.

Iris looked at the professor as he made the list, and Iris copied it quickly. Then he asked who had their wands.

Uh... Everyone?

As that girl there pointed out. When Tate changed his question, Iris wondered if he was addressing the girl, or everyone. Eitherway, she raised her hand, "My wand's in it's holster, Sir..." Where else would you keep your wand? Okay, there were pockets.. but that was SILLY.

Was the professor giving them trick questions now? Selena hoped not. "I keep my wand in its holster," Selena said as she raised her hand. She was wondering where this was all going...

Pfft, that was a totally different question! Clarifying it...eh.

Where was hers? Up her sleeve, in the custom made holster she got before starting school first year. Where else would it be? But that one girl was right. Why should they say where it is? Other people would know! Other people...like her for example.

Everyone say where their wand is. Do it!! Will of the mind. Yea. Totally.

"I keep my wand in its holster, too," offered Liz, raising her hand. She found this question odd, and waited eagerly to find out why it was important.

Trixie looked down at the holster that was secured around her wrist, her wand strategically placed in there to keep it secure yet easily reachable just in case she would need to use it in a hurry, just to flick it out. "The same as the younger Gryffindor" she said directing over to the first person that had spoken. "Mine is held in my holster on wrist" she continued.

"You're pressing your luck, child," Tate gave the girl a stern look. Honestly, this was CLASS. If she didn't like the questions, then she could leave. Period.

"Is there anyone who doesn't have a holster or a sheath?" It was a natural question... it wasn't on the shopping list and it wasn't something one naturally thought about.

Looking up at the professor questionably, he still didn't understand, did he mean right now, or when he was out and about like in the halls. "Well, it's on the desk now, but when I am not needing it, it's in my pocket of my robes nearest my wand hand."

Hoping that answered the question completely, JD waits for the professors response to their answers. Looking up surprised, he shakes his head "No, I didn't realize...." All of a sudden he realized he'd made a mistake, he should have thought of that, when he received the wand. Uh oh....

maisie could feel the heat in her cheeks, she quickly put her cold hands on her cheeks to cover them up, "yes sir, thanks, and i have my wand" she said cheerfully as she held it up, she smiled, she hoped that he wouldnt judge her badly.

Alice quickly scribbled down the key points Professor Tate made into her notebook. Upon hearing his question, Alice pulled her wand out from its holster, and raised her hand to signify that she had hers with her.

Arya stopped twirling her wand, and pointed it upwards when she raised her hand. The girl was always used to keeping her wand in her pockets and never really felt the need to buy a holster or sheath.

Arabella-Marie was glad that she had bought a holster when she was purchasing her wand in Diagon Alley because she felt that it would be easier as to not lose her wand and it would be by her side all the time

Brittany didnt raise her hand to this question because she had bought herself a nice new shiny leather holster in diagon alley

Ella did have a holster, but she preferred to just keep it in her pocket to be quite honest. Of course, it was better off in the holster, and she certainly wasn't going to argue with the Headmaster. Right now, her wand was lying on her desk in front of her. Perfectly safe.

She didn't feel the need to say anything. The question was for people who didn't have a holster, aaaaaand she did have one. So yeah. Now.. when was this practical actually going to start? She was getting anxious now.

Alice unhooked the new holster she got when she bought her wand, and set it on the table next to her notes. "I've got one Professor Tate," Alice said with a small smile.

Lexi pulled back the right sleeve of her robes exposing the leather holster that it stayed in safely when she wasn't using it. She smiled to herself more than to Tate and flexed her wrist causing it to release into her hand. YUSH! wrist holsters were the greatest thing ever. Her aunt had made her buy one first year. It was rather uncomfortable at first and she had hated it but it felt like second skin now.

"Sorry proffesor" she said looking down with a smile in her eyes. She was not going to let herself let go with teachers like muggle school.

Haunesta strolled into the classroom twirling her hair and chewing her pinapple bubblegum. Am I late? Cool," Haunesta giggled. She stared at the Professer. "OH MY GOSH! YOUR HAIR'S SOO COARSE! IT FEELS LIKE A PONY'S BOTTOM!" she screamed, shaking her head like a My-Little-Pony. She ran over too Adelin's desk. Haunesta pushed her off the chair and plopped her own butt down on the wooden chair. She stuck her feet up on the desk and stuck her gum in Adeline's hair. "Your welcome,"

"wow Gryffindor about to lose some points." Brittany thought to herself quite smug. As long as it wasnt hufflepuff she Didnt care

"Why? That's an excellent question," Tate nodded. "How about you come up here, with your holster, and can I have a volunteer who does NOT wear a holster? We'll have a little demonstration."

"Five points from Gryffindor for being late," Tate gave the girl a level gaze. "And five for disrespect. Remove yourself to a different desk, and if you interrupt class again, you're leaving."

Alice watched the girl in utter amazement...how rude. And she was a Gryffindor! She felt her own cheeks blushing in embarrassment for the girl, and certainly hoped that Professor Tate didn't take house points.

"Will do Professor!" Sophia said, excitedly. She got up from her chair and made her way up to the front of the room. "So, what will happen in this demo?" she asked, still excited.

maisie started to giggle quietly at the girl, using one hand to cover her smiling mouth, she looked over at the girl and very quietly waved.

Liz jolted as the girl screamed. She was bold. A bit too bold. Really too bold. She shook a teacher's head! And then she stuck her gum in someone's hair! It made Liz angry. Being mean to people was SO not cool. She wanted to get out of her seat and yell at this rude girl, but instead she just shrunk down in her seat.

Lexi stared at the young Gryffindor and made a note to get her name and then have a talk with Lexi 1 about the disrespectful nature of some of her housemates. Gryffindor need not have a repeat of last term as far as points went. Guh. Idiots!

Lexi looked at Tate and raised her hand. "Keeping your wand in a holster is a great way to NOT lose it or break it. Such has been my experience anyway, sir," she said with a little smile. See, that was the way you addressed your Headmaster. Take notes fellow Gryffies.

Arabella-Marie shook her head at the fact that Gryffindor had lost points cause of this girl's cheek and for being late and she wanted to have words with this girl afterwards in the common room

Having been writing what was on the board, Noel was slightly annoyed, which surprised him somewhat, by the loud interruption in the room. Who was that?

He couldn't help but stare wide eyed at the girl. Never had he heard something like that being said at his school, or even in front of a teacher. Or even interrupting like that before. However amusing it was though, Noel shook his head just the slightest before turning his attention back to the Headmaster and the example that will surely play out in the next moments. Just...

Wow.

"Come on! Can we make it twenty?"Haunesta asked, winking at the Headmaster. He was smokin hot! She wanted to marry this dude. She ruffled her hair and swayed her litttle coktail dress. "Wanna go out?"

What was WITH this Gryffindor student? Really where was Cammy when you needed her *Giggle!Snort* SHE wouldn't be impressed by this random rude interrupting student, oh and the points being taken off. Which amused yet also saddened the Slytherin. She didn't like seeing the points being lost, however it did mean Slytherin were still winning.

The mature Sort of student just rolled her eyes as she turned back to the front to listen to Headmaster Tate, or at least try to listen. Depends on whether there would be any more interruptions in class. If she didn't want to loose points, the Blonde might have said something, but the Headmaster seemed to have punished her anyway, so she remained quiet.

She would have also volunteered had she not had a holster. She could always take hers off if no one else volunteered, she didn't mind. Instead she just smiled.

Ooohhh Burn!!! ten points. She had to place her hand over her face to hide her smile.

Brittany didnt have to hold her hand over her mouth any longer her smile dropped that instant. This girl was Bonkers!!!! Not only was he a professor. He was the Headmaster!!!!!

Alice smiled at Lexi, hoping that her being respectful would rub off on the girl. She had never seen such disrespect, and especially towards a teacher!

"I find with my clumsiness it is a great way to protect it from damage. Also, can it help prevent someone from being able to grab it from you? Say, if someone used an Expelliarmus charm, would the holster help secure it from that spell?" Alice asked Professor Tate.

Iris looked up as some kid came bursting in, making a huge scene... Well, wasn't this interesting. Someone clearly felt that they didn't get heard enough. The prefect sat in her seat quietly, as the Headteacher delt with the girl.

Pfft. Little Miss Attention Seeker was right. She deserved more points being lost. PURELY for speaking to Tate like that.

Liz's mouth popped open. Did this strange girl just ask Professor Tate to take away 20 points? And to go out on a date?! With that comment, she thought it should be a detention. How rude! Liz was glad that the girl wasn't in Ravenclaw. If she was, then she would recieve a very nasty talking-to after class.
Liz was also very angry that this crazy girl was disrupting class and her educational enrichment. Hmph!

Adeline frowned then glanced up at the headmaster. She ripped the gum out of her haid with a little shriek. She threw it away then slumped lowly in her chair. Gaahhhh. This girl was crazy. But kind of funny. Pony's bottom ehh? Well less points for Gryfindor and more for Slytherin! She just starred at her wide eyed and shook her head.


Adeline almost bursted into laughter but held it in. This girl was crazy!

Arabella-Marie starred at this girl's cheek did she want to cost her house the chance to win the house cup and do poorly this whole year she wanted to tell this girl off loads now

Sophia's mouth fell to the ground. "Stop that!" she said, to the girl. "No one finds it funny!" she said. She will be sure to have a conversation with the head of Gryffindor after this class.
