Alex was confused looking around, The teacher wanted people to describe the difference between two shield charms? she didn't even known what the last one was. People were still casting or testing their first shield charms she realised so she kept silent, no point in just embarassing herself after all.

Cadence raised her hand high in the air, pretty sure she knew the answer. "Professor, the wand movement for Impiriano is a tight circular motion, and Protego... is just an upward flicking motion, right? Oh! And Impiriano is more useful when you're trying to protect a group of people because it creates a bubble of varying sizes, correct?" she asked, hoping she had answered the question correctly. "But, Protego is also a more concentrated shield, so I suppose that would be the upside of that one."

TSnitch 05-20-2010 01:19 AM

Tori raised her hand and asked the professor, "Doesn't the spell protego have variations?"

BearyMay 05-20-2010 01:20 AM

After practicing the spells Dianna was eager to learn more and so waited for the professor to show them what's next..

Again, her aqua blush-green shield materialized and she watched as the butterflies collided with it. Once where butterflies were fluttering, now were caterpillars and cocoons. Stepping back as to not step on them, she smiled. "Okay, that's really cool."

"So Cool!" he smiled at Mina.
Before they had another chance to have a go, the professor spoke.

"I am not sure about Impiriano sir, but Protego is able to adapted, for example Protego Totalum is able to protect a pocket of area or dwelling as well as those inside."
He had hear of Impiriano, but had never learnt of it full extent, so for how he could only comment on Protego.

Impiriano on the other hand would be non-effective because a spell is already in its original form, and therefore cannot be changed to anything else. However, Impiriano would be more effective than Protego in certain situations when thins can be changed. For example say you are getting attacked by a group of poisonous frogs, you could use the Impiriano spell and turn them all back into tadpoles, instead of using Protego which would only hold them off for a brief period of time." said Hermione hoping she give a satisfying answer.

"Thank you professor, and yes it is a tongue twister" said Hermione with a laugh. Hermione went over and practiced the spell some more, before the professor called the class back to order. "Revertoeskewtum" she said, and the shield started to become more clear. It was surely an improvement she thought.

"I think you're confusing Impiriano with Revertoscutum there." Truebridge answered after listening carefully. "However, you are right in the comparison between Protego and Revertoscutum." He nodded at her politely, pleased at the answer attempt and progress with casting the reversion shield.

"Protego would be best used when dueling with another witch or wizard, since you'd probably be seeing hexes and other such spells that the impiriano spell might not be strong enough to hold against, especially if their spells are a bit more powerful than you would expect. The Impiriano spell, however, would best be used probably when..." What would the impiriano spell be used for? "Umm... probably when dealing with creatures right? I mean, you can still use the spell during duels, even though it's not as strong as the protego shield, but if you're skilled enough and want to end it quickly, then that's definitely the spell for you... but I'd more then likely use it against creatures. Especially ones that like to throw and shoot stuff at you. Or if you're trying to get away from someone or something that's attacking you. You can keep the shield up and still shoot spells back if needed. That one would probably be better than the Protego spell anyways when trying to get away since apparently you don't need as much concentration on it."

That is, if she understood the spell right. Didn't centaurs have those arrows or something? Huh. Best remember that spell for CoMC.

"Yes, Protego is an upward, arcing flick. That is a good comparison, Protego is the stronger shield but Impiriano does not take as much concentration and is sufficient as a barrier against physical attacks."

Not only had other students answered the question, but they had said most of the things she had know about the shields.

Recollecting what she and Ivory had learned about the shield charm from Sir Lawson, she raised her hand. "Protego would be more effective than Impiriano if.....you knew what spell was being cast on you. That way you could focus the shield on that specific spell." She paused to ponder over the next part of her response. "It would also be more effective if you wanted to use the shield offensively. If your focus and shield strength is strong enough, then when a spell hits your shield, it can bouce back towards the person who cast it."

"That is indeed a benefit to Protego, you can focus your shield more directly, to cover a smaller area and 'waste' less energy so to speak. Likewise Protego is better as an offensive shield than Impiriano, though Impiriano allows for you to attack whilst keeping a shield up to protect you from a counter." Truebridge answered after listening.

"Thats right. Impiriano is a neat circular motion and Protego is an upwards arcing flick. And correct comparisons. Impiriano creates a bubble while Protego is more a concentrated defense."

He had hear of Impiriano, but had never learnt of it full extent, so for how he could only comment on Protego.

"There is your answer Tori. Protego Totalum is one of the Protego variations. The other variations are Protego Horribilis and Protego Duo. Protego Totalum creates a protective, but invsible 'bubble' around an area, Protego Horribilis is much like Protego Totalum, except it is specifically to protect against dark magic, and Protego Duo is a somewhat stronger shield than Protego itself, it creates a double barrier and has quite the complicated wand movement."

Truebridge made sure they could all see him.

"Impiriano." He demonstrated the wand movement, a tight circular motion, wrist flicking just the slightest bit and a blueish bubble appeared around him.

"This spell will hold even once I have stopped concentrating, the more damage it takes the quicker it will weaken. Magic will wear through it faster than something physical like an arrow. I can cast through this shield, which is a benefit to it." He made it go away with a quick finite.

"Protego." He cast the standard shield, his wand flicking up in a short arc, wrist twisting into a determined flick at the end. He held his wand steady as he spoke again. "This shield is much stronger than Impiriano, but I must concentrate to hold it and cannot cast anything else while I am holding it. Some spells may rebound from the shield if it is strong enough, but the longer you hold it, the weaker it will be.

He let it go, not needing to cast finite to dispel it.

"You may practice these shortly, there is one more shield that I wish to show you."

Truebridge summoned a.... beachball and looked solemnly out at the class.

"In some circumstances, it may be necessary to shield something other than yourself. Not an area or a room like with the Protego variants, but an item which must carry the shielding with it even as it moves. I'm going to teach you a shield that fits this purpose and your task will be to protect as many beachballs as possible from them." He pointed at the suits of armour, which clattered excitedly from their position on the duelling platform.

He paused to allow them to take the necessary notes.

Maxilocks 05-20-2010 12:01 PM

No more exams! For a while. xD *BREATHES*

Right.

Gold listened to Professor Truebridge, jotting down notes as he spoke. She already knew most of this, but a review could never hurt. Not to mention, she needed to focus on Defense. Not get carried away by the thought that she was good enough at it.

Pausing to dip her quill in PINK! ink, the sixth year glanced at the suits of armour. They couldn't be that much of a challenge, could they?

Probably not.

BearyMay 05-20-2010 01:53 PM

Dianna wrote all of these down before noticing the noisy armors clattering around the duelling platform. Oh, how she can't wait to try the spells out!

Canoir Greengrass 05-20-2010 03:01 PM

Noir pulled out another parchment and then wrote everything that Professor Truebridge has said.

TSnitch 05-20-2010 03:46 PM

Tori nodded as her quetion was answered by the professor and a fellow classsmate. She scribbled down the answers and other notes what the professor had given verbally, after watching the professor carefully.

CruppieMom89 05-20-2010 03:53 PM

Cadence sat in the bleachers and scribbled her notes down as quickly as she could, trying not to miss any details. These shields were all SURE to come up on the OWL; it seemed like one of those important things to be tested on. Luckily, Cadence had had plenty of practice with Protego after last year's fiasco, so she could just concentrate on the new ones she was learning. Pausing in her note taking, she raised her hand, "Professor, do you think we'll have to know the different variations of Protego for our Defense Against the Dark Arts OWL?" she asked curiously.

Kris 05-20-2010 04:32 PM

Alex wrote everything the Professor told them down. She glanced wearily at the suits of armour, she didn't care how easy producing a shield was, she really wasn't looking forward to defending herself from those.

Golden Monkey 05-20-2010 04:33 PM

William was too focused on writing everything down to answer questions he hd no clue to the answers of. Instead he found himself writing everything he could; even things that didn't seem important. Making diagrams of how the wand movements should be he wrote the names of the shielding spells besides each one, flourishing his signature after each one.

Looking up when Truebridge mentioned beach balls he couldn't help but grin. Oh this could be fun, but what if those suits decided to attack, then they'd have to defend themselves against that while defending them against the balls.

brave-at-heart-xo 05-20-2010 04:40 PM

Adelyn carefully wrote down everything, everything, the Professor said. She wanted to do well in this class, and she was willing to work very hard for it. The spells sounded easy enough; I could probably get them on the second try, maybe... she thought to herself as she finished up the notes. Then, she glanced over at the suits of armour, and grinned eagerly.

city_girl_95 05-20-2010 05:21 PM

Amy scribled down some notes and looked up watching the professor demonstrate

Sidney watches the demonstration closely. When Professor Truebridge finishes his lecture for the moment, Sidney writes everything down he has said. She then looks at the suits of armour and the beach balls. My poor beach balls will be playthings for the suits of armours. I hope Professor Truebridge has a lot of balls to be blown up.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 05-20-2010 07:10 PM

Ellie tried to listen as Professor Truebridge spoke. But it was so hard! Her head was beating and she massaged her temples again. She wished she had a quick quotes quill to at least take notes for her.

She had now made up her mind to ask to go to the hospital wing once the class began practicing again.

Hermione J. Granger 05-20-2010 07:42 PM

Hermione was a little embarrassed on mixing up the two spells, she lowered herself in her chair a little, and wrote down the remaining notes on the board.

PatInTheHat 05-20-2010 09:12 PM

Drumming her wand on her knee, she listened to Truebridge respond to thier answers. Writing down a few notes whenever there was something she heard something she didn't know.

Arya watched the demonstrations, took more notes and then eyed the beachball curiously. Now they were gonna have some real fun.

Her eyes continued to flicker between the beachball and the suits of armour, excited about the game they were about to play.

iBeJenn 05-20-2010 10:44 PM

Selena took down all the necessary notes and watched the demonstrations. A beach ball? What was that supposed to do?

astoriagreengrass:) 05-20-2010 10:48 PM

Chase took notes as the proffesor spoke. Wow this is a lot for a stupid girl to take in.

If you don't know any of these spells have another student help you or only defend. I will help anyone who needs it."

ooc: the conjured spells will revert in the following way when they hit the shields to different degrees (which you may choose):

Incarcerous: Ropes to fibres such as hemp or cotton
Orchideous: Flowers to seeds or bulbs (depending on the flowers)
Papilio: Butterflies to cocoons or caterpillars
Avis: Birds to eggs
Glacius: Ice to water

Kate found someone to work with. They would took turns.
"You first" She said to him
"Glacius!" he shouted
ahhhhhhhhh ice!! "REVERTOSCUTUM!" The blueish translucent shield appeared in front of her and the ice transformed into little sticks of ice, like syringes...
"woooooooo" Kate said, throwing her on the floor and covering her head with both hands. "that was close! Let's try it again."
"Avis!"
This time, a giant eagle flew directly toward her. Now Kate had to concentrate more.
"ah, a hard one!..."
"REVERTOSCUTUM!" A beautiful blueish shield vibrated in front of her.
The giant eagle transformed into a giant egg that crashed entirely into Kate's right leg and made a tremendous mess. "Don't mind, I will clean that up" She said to her partner. Kate pointed her wand at her leg and ordered "Tergeo clothes!" problem solved...
When they were about to change, Professor Truebridge spoke again

Kate made sure to write in detail all the shield charms that the professor explained.

Quote:

REVERTOSCUTUM: changes magically created things or animals into a previous state.
IMPIRIANO: it creates a bubbled shield . The spell will hold even stopped concentrating. You can cast through the shield. Wand movements: a tight circular motion, wrist flicking.
PROTEGO: it creates a common shield. This is stronger than Impiriano, but I must concentrate to hold it and no casting though it. Others spell may rebound if strong enough. Wand movementes: flicking up in a short arc, wrist twisting into a determined flick at the end.

Sophia took down notes, hoping she doesn't miss an important detail.

Watson 05-21-2010 02:01 AM

Emma quickly wrote the notes down and looked up ready for more.

Snape631 05-21-2010 03:15 AM

Willow started to scribble down the incantations, wand movements, and characteristics of the two spells. She was very eager to learn the new spell, because it dealt with the suits of armor that had been clamoring around the whole lesson.
