Splinching, eh? Yeah, he felt that whenever Diana attempted though achieved the along side apparition with him. Gulp...He listened, though he wanted to give it out some thought into it. He raised his hand, and said: "It's the fastest way to travel used by wizards in order to get form one place to the desired one..."

Willow raised a shaking hand, clearly terrified at the prospect of apparition. “W-what happens if we do get splinched? I mean.. c-can you put us back together again?” She chewed her bottom lip nervously. Surely Will should know this sort of stuff...

Mad Eye Touz 06-21-2009 09:54 PM

Plymouth sort of raised his hand, but it was more of an upward flail. "It's going to be dead useful, Anna's momma. Dead useful. Just SNAP and you're gone. I can't wait." Plymouth replaced his chin in his hands again and stared at the back of some kid's head. "I like the crack sound it makes."

TeafortheSoul 06-21-2009 10:00 PM

Keeping one eye on Plymouth, Celandine raised her hand, "I have a question sort of, or more of an observation. Some people apparate louder than others, why is that?"

"Ahh, yes. Splinching. I had a feeling that would be one of the first, if not the first, topic to be brought up. The thing that's important to remember about splinching, though, is that it can easily be prevented if...one, you learn the proper way to apparate, and two, you keep in mind that concentration is the name of the game," Bella said, with a nod. "That's exactly what we'll be getting into later on, too."

He had a tendency of doing that whenever he was nervous.

"Very good. Very good, indeed. As a matter of fact, the textbook definition of apparition is 'An advanced spell used by fully trained witches and wizards to disappear from one place and appear almost instantly somewhere else," she stated. "It is extrememly convenient, and I want you remember two key points I just made, class. One being that apparition is to be done by fully trained wizards and witches, and the other being that apparition takes you from place to place almost instantly."

"We'll be working on concentration today, so hopefully by the end of the lesson, you'll feel loads better about that," she said, with a warm smile.

"Actually, it's highly likely to happen if you don't know what you're doing, or if you apparate incorrectly. That's not meant to frighten you, either. It's meant to make you aware of what can happen if you don't follow the correct apparating procedures," she explained. "Remember, though, that these lessons will teach you how to avoid things like that, and when you one day pass your apparition test, you'll prove that you do have what it takes."

"Howeverrrr, please don't focus on that part too much. Focus on believing that you can concentrate enough to not allow that to happen."

"Anna's momma...yes, dear. Aren't you the precious one," she said, patting the boy atop the head. "I'm glad the cracking sound was brought up. That's a sure sign that someone's apparated into the area. That can be useful, of course, when you're clearly not expecting someone. It's a good defense tool...be aware of what apparating sounds like, so you can aware of your surroundings."

What you'll need to do now is break off into these groups. I've brought some parchment and quills along with me today in case you've forgotten your's. She turned and flicked her wand, and a part of the chalkboard now read:

Reasons to Apparate

"It's obvious that we use apparation to travel quickly from one place to another. Let's see if we can make a list of other reasons we may need or want to apparate," she said. "You may begin, and I'll call for your attention when I need you to finish up."

Jack needed lots of practice at apparition and this was the only place you could practice. He wanted to make sure he passed his test the first time and he only had a little over a year to perfect his technique.

Waterloo 06-21-2009 10:33 PM

Oooh, it was group time, huh? Clifford craned his neck in the direction of the board to check out who'd he be working with. He hoped he was with Evangeline...

Plymouth Morgan? The Head Boy glanced in the Ravenclaw's direction and frowned slightly. He looked like a happy bunny... NOT. Still, he didn't really recognise any of the other names - bah, there was no Evangeline in his group - and Clifford shuffled over to Morgan. "Uhm... Yo?" Eh.

purple·myst 06-21-2009 10:35 PM

Ryder made his way up to the front, to grab some parchment and a quill. His were..so unconviently in his dormitory. "Thank you, Mrs. Greingoth. That makes me feel a little better about it." But not entirely he thought after he had said that. He looked at the list of students, but he really didn't know any of them. He thought he'd met the guy, Chris, the other day when he had been talking to Dominic, so he went over and stood next to him while he waited for the others to join them. He turned to the boy, who he was pretty sure was a prefect, and introduced himself, "I'm Ryder Montgomery."

Crayola 06-21-2009 10:41 PM

If the Ice Cream Lady lacked politeness, she definitely didn't lack enthusiasm, that was for sure. As Evangeline listened to her, she couldn't help but to feel an enthusiastic smile tug at her lips. Okaaay, that was weird! HELP! She was getting contaminated!

And by Anna's Mother! Oh, good Merlin.

Upon registering the woman's words, Evangeline got up, went to get some parchment and quill for herself (bloody flood) and checked up the board with the groups. Hmm. Vanessa, Copernicus and Willow! Well, it wasn't too bad .. apart from Copernicus - the boy who had tried to duel her last term to defend Lupa's honour.

Ravenclaws were all just mad. But at least she didnt have any Gryffindors in the group! Merlin knew she was fed up with Gryffies - unless they were Sarah.

She didn't see Willow nor Vanessa around - how weird, she was sure they had been around! Was she blind? - so she decided to move next to Copernicus. As if she had a choice anyway. Eh. "Copernicus, right?" It was right. She knew that. "We're together." How fun.

nimbus1991 06-21-2009 10:41 PM

Lucas got up from where he was sitting and turned towards the direction of the Board to see who he was grouped with.

Dominic Denton, Never heard of him., Willow Greenwood, Don't know her either, Chris Kaplan. He's here too. Cool. Now he could have some fun.

Deciding that he might want to use the parchment later on in the class. Lucas went over to the place where they were placed and took one. He then started looking for Chris. He was feeling really bad that he hadn't noticed him earlier.

He finally saw him and went over. "Hey mate. Seems like we're in the same group. Should be fun." He said.

Lawliet 06-21-2009 10:42 PM

Lawliet glanced at the chalkboard and looked for his name on it. He noticed he was in the first group along with other students he hadn't really talked to before, mostly because he kept to himself for the most part.

The only student whom he vaguely remembered seeing around before was Plymouth... and he was quite the character. With a small sigh, he packed up his book bag and joined the rest of his group.

"I'm Lawliet, fourth year Slytherin student," he said with a small smile as he sat down. This should be interesting, to say the least.

"I think one some reasons as to why we would need to apparate include emergencies, or when we're running behind and we are going to be late for something. I don't particularly think that apparating should be used in every instant but there are times when you simply don't have any other choice," the boy said thoughtfully, after a small pause.

PadfootAndTheWolf 06-21-2009 10:43 PM

Chris looked at his group as Mrs. Greingoth asked them to make a list of other reasons why they would need to apparate. "Well incase there is an emergency, it is a simple and easy way to get everyone out of an area. Another reason you could do it, is if you are stuck, or inside of a place and can't get out (or lost) you can leave. Unless there is a non Apparating spell around the area. Also you could apparate if you were trying to move something extremely heavy." he said thoughtfully writing the ideas down as he said them.

"Ah, Prefect Green," he gave her a sheepish smile, clearly remembering their last encounter. And that was embarassing.

"I've got our materials gathered, so maybe we can just go ahead and get started?" And... pretend that he'd never been forced by a professor to issue a challenge to the older girl. That would be very helpful.

So, Emiliano was going to be in group number two...along with two persons he never got to meet, though it was time to make more friends, right?? Taking some parchment and quill out of his school bag, he started to think. Reasons to apparate, besides traveling. Ehem...thinking while he walked towards the place where group 2 was gathering...

He began to write:

Defense- Once in a duel, you get this chance to fully concentrate and escape the place where you are being attacked, though it may give some people calling you coward. But you can always apparate somewhere else, re-prepare yourself and then go back to the duel.

Saving lives- You know people are in some sort of danger, yes. So, you gotta know the exact location and then go save them and immediately take them to a safe place.

Daniel looked around ato looked for some familiar faces. He recognize the woman in front to be the kind lady at the Ice cream shop at Diagon Alley which happens to be Anna's mother.

He stepped inside and seated at the back row. He never knew what group he was place on, so he raised his hand and asked, "I'm sorry ma'am. I didn't catch the groupings." he said shyly. "What group am I put into?" he said.

And then Daniel began to answer the question being asked. And because he doesn't know which group he is in so he just writes it in his parchment

Quote:

Apparate is used aside from travelling when:

Rescuing Apparating can be used to rescue someone that is in fanger.

Concentration.

Hmmm.

Cela thought about this for a moment and absorbed the answer to her question. Blah. Trust Nico to be considered as gifted. Stupid awesome brother. "My brother Nicholai, he can do it quietly and stuff." She murmured.

But back to concentration.

Celandine moved over to join her group, offering a half smile for Emiliano, Chris and Paris since she knew them, and a small, almost uncertain one for Ryder since she didn't know him.

She raised her hand to ask the icecream lady Anna's mum Mrs. Greingoth a question, "Is the concentration part of apparating kind of like the intent part of casting with your wand? That is to say, is it the same kind of focus?" She shot another little look at Plym as she spoke.

Sigh.

Oh and group work.

"We use apparation to get out of dangerous situations, like if someone is trying to kill you and you can't duel them safely."

Mrs. Weasley 06-21-2009 10:58 PM

Abby takes out her parchment, quill, and ink. She then tries to think of reasons witches and wizards aparate.

Quote:

Muggles cannot see you when you aparate like they can when you ride a broom.

It's cleaner than using the floo network.

Aparation is more convinient because you only need your wand to perform it.
Abby looks over at Copernicus. She mouths a hello to him. Abby really doesn't understand that guy. He reminds her of the officials at the embassy. Copernicus is just a detached and formal as they are.

Daemon 06-21-2009 11:02 PM

Apparition. The art of popping from one place and reappearing in another - a basic dream of all muggles, including her ten year old self before she had found out that in fact the disappearing act WAS possible... And she was finally going to learn how to do it today. With a big grin plastered on her face, Rachel listened quietly as the two instructors began their lesson, or rather, Mrs. Anna's mum Greingoth began it, too excited to actually answer any questions.

Groups? Ahh, board - groups, ok. Getting up from her log, she quickly strode over to the board where all the names of the students were listed in four groups. Rachel Rider... Rachel Rider... Rachel Rider... she quickly surveyed the board as she looked for her name while at the same time trying to hide her slightly goofy grin. After all, she might be excited - but so were most of the people here, and THEY didn't look like blubbering idiots.

Yaya 06-21-2009 11:03 PM

Sitting beside Celandine and offered a half smile back. He listened and wrote what she said on that defense part from his scribblings.

"I'll take note of your suggestions, we'll discuss them...then we make a clean version of this..." He told them, showing his horrible handwritting whenever he was in a rush. "...how about that?" He asked them, and continued to write.

No matter how much she had been weirded out by Copernicus' behaviour during their last encounter, Evangeline couldn't help but to feel her smile return to her lips. Clearly, Copernicus remembered it too, or he wouldn't have that smile on his own lips.

It was almost cute.

"Yup, I think so." She half wondered if they shouldn't wait for Willow and Vanessa to get to them, but decided they'd get there soon enough. And then they could just jump into the train. "Unless you have some kind of proposition?" Evangeline teasingly asked, settling on the seat next to his and laying her parchment on the table. Oh, to work now! Hmmm. Why would they want to apparate? "Because we like the sound it makes? Or because we can't fly and are allergic to floo powder."

Celandine nodded and looked over the parchment. "Ooooh, great Em. I can call you Em right?" She beamed at her housemate and started twisting her finger in her hair as she thought about more reasons.

"Not having access to other forms of transportation like portkeys or the floo network or a broom. Oh! And wanting to get somewhere instantly AND not wanting to get dirty like you can with the other transport methods, you know, floo ash on your clothes, a bumpy landing in the mud with a port key, getting gross stuff fly in your face when you are on a broom..." Cela trailed off, her tone making it obvious she spent a fair amount of time with someone that periodically freaked out about such things.
