"Professor." Jai raised her hand "What if your fear is a boggart? What would it come out as? Do you think it would come out in its true form?" Jai asked looking at the boggarts feeding from her classmates fear.

"Excellent question, Miss Steeyle. Ten points. The boggart's magic is such that it is able to extract or 'read' the conscious and subconscious emotional landscape of its victims; psychomagical experts have studied this to great extent. A boggart feeds on fear and uses fear as a defensive weapon. It is also a creature of shadows, one who hides. The only thing it loathes more than laughter is showing its true face. Therefore, when a boggart detects that its victim truly fears the face of a boggart, it knows that he or she fears the unknown and will often use that, staying just out of sight and working to build fear through unease. Have any of you who fear the unknown-- on any level- ever been in a dark alley or an attic and seen something unidentifiable just out of the corner of your eye, but when you try to face it you cannot see it? That was likely a boggart... building your fear by staying just in your peripheral vision, so it might feed on your building fear and make you nervous as it moves in closer and closer, ready to attack you." Kazimeriz smirked as he said this, slooowly moving up behind Plymouth Morgan, closer and closer, as if to demonstrate.

The boggart had the room surrounded and slowly began to advance ever dimming up the room by upsprouting tree-like branches that began to block and choke out the light.

"Oh no..." Ludo breathed. He'd been targeted and already the boggart was under way.

The room was disappearing in a cloud of blackness. Liz, Professor Kazimeraz, his classmates...gone. The boggart was closing in on him.
"No...no...no..." Ludo muttered frantically.

He pointed his wand at the encroaching darkness. "Think! What can you force it to become!?" he thought.
Vapor...gas....gas fills..what?...ahah!
"Balloons! Giant black balloons fit to burst! he thought.

The blackness enveloped him...Ludo couldn't see his wand or hand anymore but that couldn't stop him from speaking. "Riddikulus!" he cried from inside center of the darkness.

Helios did not flinch, nor cower, nor avert his gaze. But it was in his eyes where the fear was most evident, the slouching of his shoulders another subtle sign that his houses prefect was affecting him.

Her words fell on deaf ears, like static, it was her face that he feared.

Time froze solid.

It wasn't just one moment that he saw in her eyes. He saw the past, the bittersweet past. Not only this, but the Greek boy glimpsed the future. Peeking ahead a few chapters in a book that was never written. All the way to the end.

The grip on his wand loosend, nearly falling from his hand as he pondered his fate. "The Greeks were well known for their tragedies..." He stated sadly.

Was this his destiny? A tragic story, to tug at the readers heartstrings? There had to be more to his life than cheap melodrama..

"But they also told stories of fearless heroes, love..."

Tightening his grip on his wand, a grin tugged at the young princes lips. "And comedies...Riddikulus!" His voice boomed in punctuation.

The past was filled with mistakes, the future was uncertain, but the present, this moment was his.

A bolt of lightning struck the ground again, closer to the students-- but unlike the first, the actual light of the bolt was... well, rainbow. Vibrant reds, yellows, blues, oranges, greens and purples flashed around the room as the lightning began to snap, crackle, and pop. A particularly loud, snarling bolt struck the ground no more than two feet away from Copernicus, sending sparks flying as it made impact.

Well, okay! That didn't work the way it was supposed to. He ducked slightly at the lightning strike near him, although he was hoping that it was a bit safer what with the candy and the rainbowness. It was... supposed to turn into a pretty RAINBOW. Not rainbow colored... nevermind.

"Riddikulus!" He waved his wand again, focusing VERY intently on the outcome this time. When the lightning struck, it would turn harmlessly into a cloud of bubbles.

"So instead of attacking head on the work on your fear by stalking you?" she smikred "Does the boggart work to kill? Or just to feed on your fear?" she asked smirking at the ten points she gained. "Here we come Gryffindor."

"Sir, even if the Boggart doesn't work to kill couldn't it end up killing the person by default? Because if someone gets to afraid they could end up having a heart attack or depending on what it is their actually afraid of couldn't that kill them especially if it's a magical creature like a Lethifold that the person is scared of?" Sakura added in hoping to get at least some points for her house this lesson

"It can, indeed, stalk you to build your fear-- the boggart will use any tactic to achieve its goals. As a Slytherin, I am sure that you can relate wholeheartedly." Kazimeriz smirked. "Their primary goal is to induce fear as a fuel source, so it is not in their best interest to kill outright, for they remove their fuel source. However, wizards have been moved to madness and even scared literally to death by a boggart's attacks. Five more points for your inquisitiveness, Miss Steeyle, and for you as well, Miss Takenouchi."

The boggart sent more lightning, irritated at this notion, but to no avail; soon a good portion of the room was covered in them, swirling around and slowly letting gravity pull them down to the floor.

Jai smiked at Professor Kazimeriz, he was absolutely awesome. "Your quite right professor we Slytherins do do what is needed. Professor, so boggarts work better alone or do they team up sometimes?" That was something she wanted to know, what if they were desperate "If they hadn't been fed in a while would they team up to lure and attack?"

Ludo/Freya

A strange rubbery sound began to emit from the darkness. As if someone was rubbing together leather. The branch-like protrusions that had been comming from the encrouching darkness seemed to plump up and grow blunt. As the noise grew louder and louder, the once thick blackness of the dark went back to dim and took on a rather transparent look behind which the other students could be seen. The darkness had transformed into a balloon that was quickly over-running its' capacity for air. Within a matter of seconds, the balloon pierced against an unknown object and emitted a squeal most high as it wrinkled, writhed, and flopped dramatically, like an attention-hog trying to shift the focus at a smarter, nicer siblings party, in order to release all of its air. Before it at last collapsed to the ground like a dead fish, it flailed around the room, ricocheting against several objects. Without only a bitty little squeak, the deflated piece of black balloon flopped back into the wardrobe.

Freya watched and waited as things began to quiet for a brief moment. But the second she heard what sounded like water, the short hairs on her arms and on the back of her neck stood up from a chill, and she got goosebumps.

There was a bang and Freya raised her wand towards this mist that rose up over her head. 'Rain?' She thought for a second, wondering if this would be the worst to happen. 'That's it? Rain?' No sooner had she finished her hopeful thought, the mist seemed to open up and water began to pour over her. At first it wasn't bad at all, like a heavy shower...but it got worse. The amount of water became so bad that Freya couldn't see anything outside of the sheet of freezing liquid. Her body had started to go numb from shock and she couldn't take a breath without taking in a mouthfull of water. It was like standing beneath a waterfall, the pressure was intense and it felt like a thousand knives being forced through the girl's back.

'Keep calm...keep calm...' No matter how many times she told herself that, her panic seemed to mount. 'I can't breathe...I can't-bubblehead charm!' She had to force her wand up to her head, the power of the water continued to force it down, but she finally managed to bring her weapon high enough to cast a successful bubblehead charm.
Freya took a few deep breaths, enjoying the sensation of air rushing to her lungs; she had become momentarily lightheaded. 'Now for the rest of this thing...how do I make it funny?' Her thoughts had become more stable now, seeing that oxygen had been able to make it's way to her brain.

'I think I've got it. Maybe confetti...'
She thought of the best think she could and directed her wand upwards...towards that 'thing'. The water continued to pour down on her as thought it would never end....The feeling was overwhelming even to her strong frame now."Riddikulus!" Freya commanded through her bubblehead charm, her voice a slight bit wavy from the effects.

The heavy rush of water that pounded down on Freya slowly began to subside until it felt as though she were being pelted with something about the weight and size of seeds. Glittering pieces of paper were pelting her and trying their hardest to be menacing. Once the boggart noticed that it was no longer an onslaught of liquid it began to retreat, its once fearful form now spilling out in a veritable upchuck of rainbowlicious foil. The door to the wardrobe shut with a slam as the cowardly boggart enclosed itself once again in its little safe haven.

If there was a magical lightbulb above Karma's head, it would have gone off at that point.

"So, in other words," Karma started. "The more you fear, the more the boggart can feed off of. Is that how it's becoming such a, dangerous, creature perhaps?"

"Something invisible will still have some sort of effect to your mind, Miss Windsong. If you have an anticipated effect, such as an inability to breathe from invisible gas or dizziness-- some physiological effect you would expect as a result of the attack-- the boggart will focus on making you perceive that effect is happening to you. A boggart's attack is purely an attack on your psychological well being, so it will attack using whatever weapons it senses are at hand. Two points. And yes, Miss Atkins- the more you fear, the more incentive they have to continue attacking. "

"Dementors work in teams... boggarts tend to work and exist in a solitary environment, as they are exceedingly shy creatures. It is rare to see more than one in an area, and certainly not as many as we have in the class today, without purposefully placing them in the location as I have today." Kazimeriz nodded to the girl. "They do not tend to team up or use pack instinct of any kind... unlike the dementor, who will use such tactics to its advantage. A dementor has a higher level of consciousness... As some of you may experience in a coming class." Kazimeriz smiled a Smile Most Evil at this.

Oh thank GOODNESS. Copernicus nodded to the professor and slid back into his seat. It was very instructive, but his heart felt like it would burst from inside his chest at the rate it was pounding. He turned his attention to the front of the room where his classmates continued to face their fears.

That golden hair seemed to fade when he was afraid, whether this was really happening, or if it was imagined is totally up to debate. Helios was on his toes, nearly coming out of his sandles, as he was nearly ready to high tail it out of there like he usually did. He always let her win. Let her chip away at his pride.

Life seemed measured by the moment since he stepped up to the wardrobe. This moment brought him to a similar moment. But this moment was not filled with fear. The opposite, like a reflection in a mirror. The mirror of Erised. Though the staff probably had it's own reason for having the mirror brought to the school, in this boys story it seemed as if it were there just for him. To show him what the desire he denied himself, like the Boggart revealed the fear he hid.

Krissy and Kayla. The cousins were the princes only two real friends in this school. One loved him while the other seemed to only have contempt. Why did he dwell so deeply on the negative while ignoring the positive.

There came the revelation. In all her insults and anger, Kayla was trying to point him in the right direction. She wanted the best for him, and showed it in her own rough edged way.

"Smile."

Helios smiled, in case the Boggart in Kayla's skin didn't know how. His wand slowly rose, his lips parting in a strong whisper.

"..riddikulus!..

Kayla sat at the desk and watched with fascination at Helios' boggart and it was rather freaky to see herself coming out of the wardrobe. But oh how cool that the young prince's greatest fear was herself. She smirked to herself and so it bloody well should be, it took him long enough to get that through his thick head.

Inching slightly into the half-circle, Dom gripped his wand tightly, drawn at his side. He was going to master his fear - he had to. But the difficult part was thinking about how he could possibly make his fear humorous when he was confronted with it face-to-face. Now alert and oriented, he could easily see the boggarts truly represented the fears of his peers. Something he dreaded. True and real was just . . . ugh. Now all he had to do was wait though and hope he could handle it.

ooc: Dom's true fear would be loads of fan GIRLS smothering him with kisses and all kinds of other yucky romance stuff xD

The boggart shifted away from Helios and turned into none other than the ginger Amelia Rose, and she screamed and threw herself at Dominic's neck. "Merlin's Pants! Truly Frightening...

Meanwhile...

A boggart shaped like a dementor slid silently out of the wardrobe, heading straight for Abby Wright, its bony hand stretching out toward her menacingly.

Aww, great. He should have known. Boggarts weren't all that stupid. Ugh.

And what memory was happiest than that of all of them together, having fun with him. Also, what better way to fight darkness than with a memory with so much sun... So he was all set.

Dominic perhaps should have mentally prepared himself just a little more for what was awaiting him. Perhaps a part of him knew what the Boggart would appear as to him, but yet his conscious mind was attempting to hide it. Thus as the wardrobe shook, he felt his insides turn upside down as he gulped loudly.

Only a Boggart he reminded himself helplessly. Drawing a deep breath, he bit his lip as a redhead - one who seemed quite familiar and yet unfamiliar at the same time - emerged and instantaneously through herself ALL OVER HIM!!! Sure he couldn't deny that she was attractive, in the slightest way, but this was just ridiculous. The saliva covering his cheeks . . . his robes . . . his entire surface of well-being and pride was DESTROYED!

Master your emotions, Dominic

"Riddikulus!" The fifth year shouted, waving his wand appropriately to ward the boggart off. As he shouted the incantation, he quickly was thinking of a way to make this situation more humorous. Those funny thoughts entailed the gingered female being smothered herself with TOADS, all over her body and face and bloody red hair . . . attacking her with slobbery, germy kisses.

CandicePotter 03-22-2009 05:29 AM

Chase looked around the classroom as the Boggart moved about. He clenched his hands in an attempt not to run away from the classroom. Taking deep breaths to calm himself he watched the boggart and watched as Helios fear came up and his leg began tapping as the boggart got closer. Please o please o please.. Dont come... Dont come near him. Chase knew exactly what his greatest fear was and eh wasnot about to let it show up in the room.

His greatest fear? Seeing Whit, his girlfriend, dead infront of him.
