Kai smiled "I'm working on an advanced potion, it's an antidote that can cure most poisons" she looked into her cauldron and gave a big smile, her potion seemed to be coming along nicley "So, would you two like to sit with us?" she asked as her potion simmered.

Chanel walked somewhat briskly into the Potions lab and found a place to sit. It wasn't in front or the back; she somehow just preferred the middle. Taking out her supplies, she began setting up her workstation. Then she grabbed a notebook and a pen; just in case she needed to take notes. Sighing, she began attempting to make the Draught of Peace; hoping she'd remember all the steps correctly.

It was a mixture of Accromantula Venom, Basilisk Venom and Doxy eggs." Monica said. I conbated it with Infusions of Phoenix tears and Unicorn tears mixed into milk." She smiled.

Adam looked up from his scribbling to see Xana was talking to him.

"Well, yes it was rather good actually. I learnt how to fly a plane"

"That sounds like fun professor!" Monica said.

Xana smiled, nodding. The Draught of Peace... she remembered that one well.

"That's sweet of you but I've really got to attend to my distillations... " she raised an eyebrow, curious. "It seems to be the theme of the potions lab this year- universal antidotes. If you don't mind sharing, what theory are you using- what's your baseline ingredient?"

She smiled back warmly. Not bad, not bad at all. "What type of milk did you use, and was the antidote effective on a per-poisioning incident basis or was it taken as a preventative before he poisoned you?"


Xana tilted her head and grinned. "You did? How exciting! One of the small planes, I presume? What inspired you to try that?"

"I used Whole Cow's milk, and after a poisioning but it can be used before as a preventative too." Monica smiled. The milk helpps to soothe the stomach afterward.

"Interesting." she pulled out a long black stick and dipped it into her cauldron, pulling it back out and noting that it was pale blue. Noting this in her journal, she continued. "I would wonder -- I'd presume you didn't monkey around too much with the potion itself as you were in urgent need of a cure... but now, after the fact, I'd be interested in testing the impact on efficacy of changing that from whole cow's milk to goat or even dragon milk-- the fats in the milk might decrease the overall effectiveness of the doxy eggs, so reducing the fat content might make the potion more effective in smaller dosages. " she raised an eyebrow. "Would you like to play with that with me when you've some spare time? I'm curious about it now..."

"Absolutely!" Monica smiled and jutted the idea in her own Notebook. "You're right, the higher fat milks might just wipe out the effectiveness of the doxy eggs completely." She tapped her quill against the cheek. "I'd also like to try it with Chocolate milk to see if it changes anything, and Soy milk to see if it can be adapted for the lactose intolerant."

She thought a moment. "I suppose it's worth trying- the soy would be an interesting test. With the chocolate, though, I can already tell you that the sucrose in the chocolate milk is going to neutralize the mast cell degranulation effects of the basilisk venom, so it's going to render your potion inert. Try it though, just to prove it to yourself... I'd like to see it anyway."

Monica noted that about the chocolate milk. "Ok, so that'll mean devising a sugar free version." She said softly, the wheels in her head turning.

Xana lowered the flame under her cauldron, testing the potion again with the rod. Bright blue. She wrote in her book. "Tell me, what is your purpose for trying chocolate milk? I mean, are you looking to impact the effectiveness of the potion or is it for palatability -- to make it easier to consume, a better flavour? And speaking of that-- what was the flavour like in your experience? I can't imagine the doxy eggs would be great from a mouth feel and flavour perspective, honestly..."She wrinkled her nose at the prospect as she spoke, taking a moment to scourgify the chopping block where she'd dissected her ferns.

James walked into the dank potions class and set up his cauldron near the door. He unfolded his collapsible cauldron and placed his brass scales on the table. After pulling out his potions kit, he began flipping through a book titled "Advanced Potions Making" and stopped at a sleeping potion. He noticed a girl nearby him. He had seen her around the school before and he knew her name was Xana. He placed his weights down and walked over to her.
"Hi," he said friendly, to Xana. "I'm James-" he added.

Xana smiled at the boy, whom she had also seen around school but did not know. "Hello, James, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Xana, and this is Monica. " She nodded to the girl next to her. "I've seen you around school, I know, but I'm sure we've never met... what house are you in?" she asked in a friendly tone as she started to set up a small caudron in a new area of her workstation... might as well be doing something useful while the distillations were processing. She hated the distilling process, it was so slooooow.

Chanel looked cautiously around her and saw some faces that was obviuosly new to her. Of course, the professor hadn't changed too much. Shrugging her shoulder and telling herself not to worry about that; she continued stirring the potion clockwise a few more times. It simmered. Chanel peered into the cauldron a little to see what it had looked like so far. Hm, not too shabby. It didn't look as if it were going to explode and almost perfectly fit the description in the book of what it was supposed to turn out to look like.

James smiled and shook both Xana's and Monica's hands.
"Yes, I've seen you two around as well." he said. "And I'm in Ravenclaw. How about you two?" he asked both girls as he started his distillation process as well. He pulled out his wand and pointed it at the cauldron. With a silent wave, a fire started underneath the cauldron. He waved it again and water appeared inside. He felt it would be better to let the water distill naturally, rather than do it by magic. Another thought appeared in his head and he turned to the girls again.
"I'm a sixth year. What about you two?" he asked.

Wednesday walked around the hallways and came into the Potions Lab. Knowing there was other people inside the lab, she decided it was her chance to make more friends. "Ello everyone," Wednesday said.

Xana grinned, shaking his hand and returning to adjust the flame under her curcurbite. She then started to set up her sidework, setting out containers of sulfur auretum, red mercuric oxide, and black antimony and using a light oil to cure the second cauldron on her workstation. "I'm a seventh year Slytherin..." she glanced at his project. "What are you working on?"

She nodded in greeting to the new girl who entered the lab. "Hello!" she said brightly in reply.

Ryder walked into the potions lab rubbing his head which was hurting extremely bad at the moment. He sat his books down on the table close to the front of the room and began setting up his cauldron and preparing for the class. This was his favorite class. He looked around the room but did not see anyone he knew. Normally he tried to partner up with Cassandra because she was rather good with Potions, he hoped that she would be in the class and that partners would be allowed.

He would love to partner with anyone that he at least new on a personal level, he found it hard to partner with people that he knew nothing about. He opened his potions book and started flipping through the pages. "Maybe I can start making some sort of head ache relieving elixer. These headaches have gotten so bad." he said flipping the pages in the book. He tapped his wand on his arm as he flipped the pages with his free hand.

Alexandria walked into the classroom, She spotted Ryder and smiled, "Excuse me sir, Mind if I sit here?" She said before taking a seat next to him, She placed her books out in front of her and glanced up at the front of the room.

Ryder looked up at Alexandria and smiled, "Sure no problem, how are you anyway Miss James?" he said watching her take out her books. "I was actually going to try and make my own headache reliever care to help?" He said looking back down at the potions book.

Alexandria smiled, "I'd love to," She looked down at the book and back up at him, "So why are you having headaches?" She suddenly frowned, "Maybe it's because you miss Rosalie.." She shook her head, "What's the first step?"

Ryder looked at her for a moment when she said Rosalie's name, at this moment he did miss her but he was sure this what not the reason for the headaches. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a few wrapped chocolate candies that were sent from his parents. He unwrapped one and put it in his mouth, he held his hand out to Alexandria. "Care for one, my parents keep sending me them, possibly my mother finally feels bad about the way she left things before I left for school." he said looking to the book.

After a minute or two of chewing he could clearly smell a vanilla mint with a hint of strawberries. He then caught a slight smell of the summer breeze mixed in with a quick swish of lilacs. He swallowed the chocolate and he smelled a specific scent, but where had he smelled that before? He looked around, it made him think of Rosalie. But of course she was not at Hogwart's. He looked back at Alexandria.

"Um... right... Steps..." He looked in the books. "We should probably gather some ingredients first." He said looking back up at her

"Well the main ingredient i'm using is a Bezoar,it's found in the stomach of a goat and it can cure most poisons" she paused for a moment, smiling "And the theory that i'm using is the following : since Bezoar is the main ingredient my antidote should be able to cure most poisons as long as I don't mix in to many other ingredients, or dilute it with to much liquid." she laughed "I know it sounds.....a bit stupid, but I think it will work"

Chanel looked at the potion appreciatively for a while, then got bored of admiring how good it was. She never knew she'd be this good at
Potions, but it was worth a try. She noticed that even more students were piling ito the lab. She smiled; staring around at some other potions. And she began thinking of what to make next...
