Sana slightly laughed at Touy's comment.
"Umm..may be. But Over all It's so useful. We can rectify or modify our mistakes though. I enjoyed this class thoroughly." she paused and continued as,
"If you have time we can talk after the class somewhere around the gound, Shall we?I'm not willing to do any damage to our house points"she giggled

Freya 11-24-2007 04:38 AM

"O thats sounds good we could go watch the Gryffindors practice." Touy went back to reading her text book.

Miss Poirot 11-24-2007 06:45 AM

Bess calculated her number.

Quote:

Birth Number.
My Birthday: October 2
Actual Day of Birth:2
Reduced Birthday Number: 0 + 2 = 2
Then she read the following out of her text book:
Quote:

TWO (2): If your birthday is the 2nd, 11th, 20th, or the 29th day of the month. You do best in partnership, like to work in a team, and are a natural peacemaker. You are respectful, discerning, supportive, cooperative, and need an aesthetic lifestyle. You prefer to work behind the scenes and be with others.
2 birthday - You seek balance and harmony. You're a natural conciliator in any situation. Adaptable and sensitive to others, you'll often play the role of peacemaker.
It was pretty true. But a question came floating up her mind. She raised her hand and asked: "Professor, you said that meaning of these numbers are always almost pretty accurate. If this is true then how can, say all the people having the birth number 2, have the same qualities? Because there are a lots of hudreds of people who must be having birth numbers in common.... how can one analysis be tue for so mny people?"

relly1611 11-24-2007 08:04 AM

Jess calculated her birth number. Her birthday was November 16,so her number was 1+6=7.After doing this simple exercise, she looked in the textbook and read:
SEVEN (7): If your birthday is the 7th, 16th, or 25th day of the month. You search for depth and meaning in all that you do and see. You are analytical by nature, which causes you to take longer than most to make a decision. Meticulous, pensive, and private, you need to be surrounded by natural settings of solitude and silence for rejuvenation.
16 birthday - You may find your life brings sudden (even traumatic) events that act as catalsysts, wake-up calls to look at your life more honestly. You insist on independence, need time to rest, meditate, and contemplate. You may have an unusual interest in the technical, scientific, metaphysical, or spiritual subjects. You may be seen as a perfectionist and as unusual or different.

Many things were true for her.She was indeed analytical, perfectionist, and needed time to meditate."Interesting!"she thought.

Professor Shackleton pointed at the girl with a smile on her face and replied, "Thank you for that marvelous segway into the next part of our lesson! The reason why these numbers fit for a great number of people are two-fold: Number one, is it that surprising to have two or three characteristics in common with another person? I don't think so. Number two, people interpret these characteristics individually with their own meanings of the words, so differences in interpretation can play a part.

But more importantly than that, I mentioned that the Birth Day number was a companion to the Core numbers. It is the accumulation and interplay of all of your numbers - the Core, the Companions, and a whole bunch more numbers that you'll be learning all about over the next few years - that make each reading different. You must consider that Birth Day number in conjunction with your individual numbers. That is how the properties of a single number combine with other numbers to give a more wholistic reading!"

Professor Shackleton waved her wand quickly and casting a nonverbal spell, began writing:

Quote:

The Core: 4 elements
She turned to her students and asked, "Who can name the four elements of the Core? I want just their names, no definitions."

SlytherinSistah 11-24-2007 02:19 PM

Claudian put his hand up, still jotting down calculations with his other, "The life path number, the hearts desire, expression, and maturity, Professor Shackleton." He smiled at her, hoping that she would have as much patience with him in class as she had that day in her office. He was determined to understand this topic better.

Sinister Snape 11-24-2007 02:32 PM

Sini raised her hand recalling what she had read, "Professor the four core elements are the life path number, the expression or destiny number, The heart’s desire or soul urge number, and the personality number."

Professor Shackleton listened as the boy who had visited her in her office listed four important numbers in Arithmancy. She replied, "You are very close, but one of your numbers does not belong in the Core. The Maturity Number is actually a companion to the Core, but not a Core number itself. Nice try though."

Professor Shackleton nodded and replied, "Yes, that is correct. One point to you!

"The four elements of the Core are the Life Path Number, the Expression/Destiny Number, The Soul Urge/Heart's Desire Number, and the Personality Number. These four numbers combine to provide a picture of who we are and who we are meant to become in this lifetime."

Professor Shackleton waved her wand again and added to the words in the air, which now read:

Quote:

The Core: 4 Elements
1. Life Path Number
2. Expression/Destiny Number
3. Soul Urge/Heart's Desire Number
4. Personality Number

She then asked, "What does the Life Path number reveal to us about ourselves?"

Sinister Snape 11-24-2007 02:54 PM

Sini smiled glad that she had recalled correctly. Raising her hand she responded, "The lifepath number tells you just that, what path in life you are destined to follow and how things will effect you while on that path. It can also tell you about your talents and abilities you will experience along your path of life. Even some of us may share a snumber, it in fact tells each person something different about themselves, no two readings should be the same."

SlytherinSistah 11-24-2007 03:08 PM

Claudian put his hand up, "Professor, would it also be safe to say that this number tells us how we relate to the world around us and our relationship with our experiences or how they effect us?"

He thought about what The Gryffindor girl had said and raised his hand again. "Professor, Shackleton, How can no two readings be the same? "

Slytherin Fox 11-24-2007 03:30 PM

"The life path number provides a road map to how your life is going to end up, and the talents and abilities that are going to help you reach that point. It lets you know how successful you are going to be, and in what areas. And while some people may have the same life path number, the unique combination of all your numbers together makes the path clear," Excelsior said.

SlytherinSistah 11-24-2007 04:07 PM

Slughorn shot a grateful glance towards Excelsior Black. His comment helped make the concept clearer, but he'd probably have to see Professor Shackleton in her office again...oh the hot chocolate and humanity!

He thought about what The Gryffindor girl had said and raised his hand again. "Professor, Shackleton, How can no two readings be the same? "

Professor Shackleton considered what the boy said about the Life Path Number and responded, "All the numbers of the core tell us how we relate to the world around us, not just the Life Path number. As far as two readings being different, the reason is two-fold. Firstly, each person interprets a reading differently and applies it to their own individual situation. For example, if my reading said I was a loner - to one person, they may read that as being a loner in love, others in friendship, others in business, etc. etc. A single word has so many meanings that one reading will be completely different to two different people. Secondly, you must consider this number in conjunction with the other core numbers and companions. The accumulation of numbers gives each person a very individualized reading that is completely different from any other. So while you may share the same Life Path number with another person, it is highly unlikely that you will also share an Expression number, karmic debts, personal years, and many other numbers and concepts in the study of Arithmancy. Does that make sense?"

"Very good! One point to you as well!"

Professor Shackleton adjusted her robes and requested, "You'll all want to take notes on this next topic because you will need it throughout your entire study of Arithmancy - the concept of addition by reducing first, then adding together. For example, here is my birthday again," Professor Shackleton waved her wand and wrote in the air:

Quote:

November 22, 2028
11/22/2028
11 + 22 + 2028
(1+1) + (2+2) + (2+0+2+8)
2 + 4 + 12
2 + 4 + (1+2)
2 + 4 + 3 = 9
"Notice that I sum each number separately, reducing it to its root number, then adding across once each is a single-digit number. Do you have any questions about this concept?"

Miss Poirot 11-24-2007 04:17 PM

Bess was very clear with it. Professor explained it quite well. She started doing the calculations.

Slytherin Fox 11-24-2007 04:22 PM

Excelsior found everything quite clear. He began to lay out his calculations.

He had written down his birthday - July 19, 2046.

SlytherinSistah 11-24-2007 04:36 PM

Claudian reminded himself not to be 'that guy', and he gave a nod to Shackleton in reply to her explanation of how readings could differentiate from one another.

He wrote down the birth date information in his journal and added the month, day, and year separately then combined them. The ninth of the month, plus the year gave him 5.

caseym 11-24-2007 04:39 PM

Saylie looked intently at the date she had written, "2-16-2052" and started the calculations.

2+(1+6)+(2+5+2)
2+7+9=18
1+8=9

Raising her hand, she asked, "Does that look right, Professor?"

ooc: The year is 2063, right? If not, I'll edit...

zoraidatrowbridge 11-24-2007 04:41 PM

Zoraida looked up at the calculations above. Adding to her journal.

Quote:

12/6/2047
3+6+2+11
11+11
22 = 4
Then looked up after doing her math. A few shorten tricks applied to the adding.

OCC: what year is it?

shortfry 11-24-2007 04:42 PM

Kerry jotted her notes down in her journal and then using her own birthday, Kerry tried to add the numbers together just the way Professor Shackleton had, to see if she could do it correctly and what number she would get.

Quote:

October 16, 2047
10/16/2047
10+16+2047
(1+0) + (1+6) + (2+0+4+7)
1+7+13
1+7+(1+3)
1+7+4= 12
1+2= 3
When she was done, she looked it over and gave it a quick nod thinking it looked ok. Raising her hand, she asked, "Professor is this correct?"

noodles 11-24-2007 04:44 PM

Emily wrote down the numbers and started to do her calculations.

December 6 2051

06/12/2051

(0+6) + (1+2) + (2+0+5+1)

6 + 3 + 8 = 17

1+7 = 8

"Is this correct professor?"

Professor Shackleton glanced at Saylie's journal and inspected her work. "That is exactly right my dear. Nice work."

OOC: The year is indeed 2063.

OCC: what year is it?

Professor Shackleton wandered over to Zoraida's desk and looked at her calculations. Spotting an error, Professor Shackleton pointed to the page and explained, "You seem to have made a little mistake here. This is what your information should look like:

Quote:

12/6/2047
(1+2) + 6 + (2+0+4+7)
3 + 6 + 13
3 + 6 + (1+3)
3 + 6 + 4 = 13
1 + 3 = 4
"You see, my dear. The way that you had calculated the numbers made it appear as though you had a master number, twenty-two, in your Life Path. But that is not actually so. It very important that you reduce each group of numbers - month, date, year - first, then add them all together."

"Is this correct professor?"

Professor Shackleton hurried over to view Emily's work and noticed that it had been completed entirely correct. Smiling at the girl, Macadrian said, "It is correct. Nice work!"

Making her way back to the front of the classroom, Professor Shackleton began explaining, "Now, what I just tricked you all in to doing was finding your Life Path number! Your Life Path number is found by following these steps."

With a flick of her wand, the board was covered with the following words:
Quote:

1. Find the number of the month. July, for example, is a 7 month.
2. If your birthday is a double-digit number, reduce it to a single number.
3. Now, add the year numbers together to get a single digit number.
4. Next, add all three reduced numbers for the month, day, and year, together.
5. Last, reduce the final double-digit numbers.
"Aren't I clever?" Macadrian joked with a wink. "One last thing you should know about calculating your Life Path, or any other number for that matter, is to be aware of Master Numbers. After step four and before step five, you must check to see if you have a master number 11, 22, or 33. If you do, you should write that number as the Master number first, followed by a slash, then the reduced number." Macadrian waved her wand again and in the air was a visual example of what she had just said:

Quote:

Life Path = 22/4
"Life Paths that are Master Numbers should be evaluated first as the Master Number and then considering the reduced number. Now, what I would like you all to do is refer to your textbook and determine the meaning of your Life Path number. Be sure to write it in your journal and evaluate its accuracy as you did with your Birth Day number."

Slytherin Fox 11-24-2007 05:21 PM

Excelsior began to work out the calculations.

July 19, 2046

7 + 1 = 8
2+ 0 + 4 + 6 = 12
12 + 8 + 20
20 reduces to 2

"So my number would be 2!" Excelsior realized.

caseym 11-24-2007 05:28 PM

Saylie quickly copied everything down, slowing only enough to make sure she was writing legibly and then flipped to the corresponding number in her book.

Your path will lead you to understand the interconnectedness of all things. It's a path of universal love that learns compassion and tolerance. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - tolerance for all and the importance of caring for each other. You're a born healer and your healing may take the form of writing, composing, painting, or sculpting - reaching others by truly connecting to them. You'll be learning how to let go, to surrender the self for greater good. Career/vocation options include the arts, international business, education, and health - any line of work designed to help, heal, or humanize.

Saylie thought about this for a minute then nodded, This sounds like me, she thought to herself. Then another thought occured to her. Raising her hand, she asked, "Professor, I know this is slightly off subject...but I was reading about how nine represents healing, and it occurred to me that daisies are sometimes used for treating and healing...could that add to what we were talking about in your office?"

"Thank you Professor, I just wanted to make sure it was correct before moving on, or my work would be rubbish." Kerry laughed. "Ok now onto finding out what all this means..."

Kerry flipped through her textbook to find the meaning of life path number 3. "Interesting" Kerry thought to herself as she began to read:

Quote:

THREE (3): Your path will entice you to be both spontaneous and creative, to live your life with joy and imagination. You will learn the benefits of optimism and enthusiasm, and how to express your emotions and exuberance. Once you've mastered these concepts, you'll move on to the next phase - inspiring others. You're a born communicator and your wit and lightheartedness will help others see the joy in any situation. Artistic, creative, and articulate are words to describe someone with a 3 Life Path. Career/vocation options should relate to anything artistic - writing, speaking, designing, illustrating, dancing, etc.
"Well I certainly am spontaneous and creative, no doubt about that. I do try to be optimistic and unfortunately I do express my emotions...that one perhaps a bit too much." Kerry playfully acknowledged to her herself as she began to jot down the notes into her journal. A born communicator...I'm not sure about that...but then again there are many times I do find myself being the mediator in situation. Wow, this is all really freaky how true some of this is." Kerry thought to herself some more. "I wonder what the next set of numbers will bring me.

noodles 11-24-2007 05:47 PM

Emily worked out her life path number as 9 and looked it up it her textbook.
Quote:

NINE (9): Your path will lead you to understand the interconnectedness of all things. It's a path of universal love that learns compassion and tolerance. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - tolerance for all and the importance of caring for each other. "Very interesting" She thought. Emily certainly was creative but had never realised that a healer could be defined in so many different ways. Universal love, though, was certainly not among one of her characteristics..
