Arithmancy Lesson Two.

Professor Onyx Frost approached the door to his classroom and unwarded the door with a sweep of his wand. He entered the somewhat dim room and charmed the windows open before he sat behind his oaken desk, leaned back in his chair with his boots as per usual resting crisscrossed at the ankles on the edge and closed his eyes, enjoying the breeze of the refreshing air from the windows on his face as he waited for his students to arrive.

Vince quickly went inside the room, his Ravenclaw robe touching the floor. He had somewhat, liked the subject of Arithmancy, learning about numbers and many others. Giving the professor a wave, he randomly looked around the room. As he took his seat, he grabbed his bag and prepared every books that were going to help him in the certain kind of subject. Giving a deep sigh, he took out his quill, parchment, and black ink.

Although this lesson was going to be enjoyable, he could not stop thinking about Quidditch. As he looked at the professor, he wondered if the man can still play the game of Quidditch. No! Concentrate on the lesson, not about Quidditch! Deep breaths were going to help him. Looking at the professor, he scratched his head and waited for more students to come in. He did hope this lesson was going to be fun.

Marie walks fast inside the classroom and politely smile at the professor. Even if this was not her best subject, she was eager to know what they were going to learn today. She walks straight at the back to find herself a sit. She then open her bag, took out everything she needed and waited for the start of the lesson.

Kerry walked into the classroom. The beautiful breeze coming from the window was refreshing as it hit Kerry's face. Taking in a deep breath, she breathed in the freshness and wondered into the room just a bit further, taking a seat near the front of the room to be close to the open window.

Golden Monkey 04-29-2007 08:45 PM

Ariana walked in hwhistling a silent tune that she didn't know. She sat down near the front of the class and stopped whistling as she said, "Hello professor." to the professor as she took out ner quill, parchment and textbook, ready for a fun lesson. She was never any good with numbers, but was getting Arthimancy pretty easily. She saw Kerry sit down beside her and smiled at her. The breeze felt wonderful on her skin and he sighed happily.

Kennedy entered the Arithmancy classroom very slowly. She was still in a lot of pain and the school nurse hadn't really given her anything to help. So Kennedy carefully walked to a seat toward the front of the room and greeted Professor Frost. She then took her seat and began pulling items out of her tote bag. She really wished she could be in her bed resting, but also didn't want to miss a class so Kennedy decided to tough it out. She hadn't participated at all in yesterday's Herbology lesson because the pain was so severe and today didn't seem to be any better. She hoped she'd make it through the lesson without too much pain.

Ozzy 04-29-2007 09:08 PM

Onyx nodded to the kidos that greeted him and smiled. After a few moments he removed his feet from the desk and rose from his chair, now standing before the class. He stroked his goatee for a moment before continuing, “Can anyone recall what it was that Pythagorean said about numbers and how we can use them?”

Granger1814 04-29-2007 09:12 PM

Eric raised his hand slowly. "He claimed that “the world is built upon the power of numbers” and his branch of Arithmancy is based upon the principle that the entire universe is composed of mathematical patterns, and all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to universal vibrations. And so, all things, are able to be reduced to numbers in order to determine personalities, destinies and fortunes of individuals."

Golden Monkey 04-29-2007 09:15 PM

Ariana raised her hand and replied, "He claimed that “the world is built upon the power of numbers” and he was often revered as a great mathematician and scientist, however, careful scholarship in the past three decades has found no evidence of his contributions to mathematics or natural philosophy." she realized a bit too late her answer was basically the same as the others but shrugged.

Loki 04-29-2007 09:16 PM

Marie raised her hand and said: "He said that the world is built upon the power of numbers. His branch of Arithmancy is based upon the principle that the entire universe is composed of mathematical patterns, and all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to universal vibrations."

shortfry 04-29-2007 09:20 PM

Kerry raised her hand "Pythagorean said that he believed all numbers have special properties. He also believed that every number had a Value and a way to according to their position in the alphabet. You could use the numbers to find out their letter value and create words and sentences from them I believe. Did he not?" Kerry asked

Ozzy 04-29-2007 09:21 PM

“Precisely. Glad to know some of you were paying attention last lesson.” He said with a chuckle and a grin. “Three points to each of you.”

“Right then, lets pick up where we left off last lesson and calculate each of our destiny, heart, expression and personality numbers. Firstly we will be calculating our destiny number. What I need you all to do is write out your month of birth, day of birth and year of birth in the numerical format please.”

(OOC: Let me know OOC with a PM if you need help figuring out you character’s year of birth, etc.)

lemondrop13 04-29-2007 09:38 PM

Kennedy wasn't entirely up to participating but didn't want to offend Professor Frost by ignoring his request, so she attempted to calculate her destiny number. She wrote down her July birthday on her parchment in numerical format:
Quote:

07/02/2049

Loki 04-29-2007 09:41 PM

Present year is 2061 if I'm not mistaken

Marie smile at the fact that they were going to practice what they learn the previous lesson. She took her piece of paper and wrote on in her birthday.
Quote:

12/03(March)/2046
She took her times to write correctly the date in and waited for further instruction from the professor.

shortfry 04-29-2007 09:43 PM

Kerry jotted down her numbers.

Her birthday was October which was 10, the day was the 16, and she was was born in 2047. Wow, looking at that she couldn't believe it was 2061 already. So grabbing her quill and parchment Kerry scribbled down:

Quote:

10+16+2047 =2073
2+0+7+3 = 12
1+2 = 3

Destiny number =3
Kerry raised her hand, "Professor is this correct?" she asked.

Golden Monkey 04-29-2007 09:45 PM

Ariana frowned for a few minutes wondering how she would do it, than suddenly realized she wrote out:

Quote:

13/05 (May)/2048
She waited to see how they would get their number. She was brainless when it came to math, but figured she'd give it a try in any case. This was much more difficult than she thought.

Evy 04-29-2007 09:46 PM

Evan grabbed his quill and hastily scribbled down his birthday on a piece of parchment:

Quote:

19/09/2044
Smiling to Kennedy and Marie, he then waited for the lesson to continue. The boy was determined to behave well during this class, and not let some of his friends distract him.

Ozzy 04-29-2007 09:58 PM

“Once we’ve all done that, lets begin calculating. All you have to do for this is simply add the numbers together, which I like to refer to as ‘number crunching’. If your total comes out higher than any of the numbers one though nine, eleven or twenty-two condense it by adding the total together until you get a sum of one though nine, eleven or twenty-two. As an example…” Professor Frost tailed off as he flicked his wand towards the chalkboard.

”I’ll give you all a few moments to do this. If anyone needs help, let me know.” He said with a smile.

Onyx had a look at her parchment and gave a small chuckle. "The digits should be counted individually. Whereas you have ten there should be one and zero, and where there is sixteen there should be one and six." He said hoping that made sense. He had a strange way of communicating ideas, just like his mother...

shortfry 04-29-2007 10:01 PM

Kerry smiled, "now it does Professor thank you! I got it now, will you look at it again!"

Quote:

1+0+1+6+2+0+4+7 = 21
2+1 = 3

Destiny number =3

Golden Monkey 04-29-2007 10:05 PM

Ariana nodded. Simple adding, okay she could do that. Pulling her parchment next to her she beganto jot down the numbers, her tongue sticking out the corner of her mouh slightly as it always did when she was calculating.

Quote:

05-13-2048

0+5+1+3+2+0+4+8 = 23

23 = 2+3= 5
She looked at the number. "5! No way...." she scribbled it out and started again, just to make sure. Sure enough she got '5'. "Well, okay then." she said to herself as she waited for further instruction.

Loki 04-29-2007 10:06 PM

Marie smiled gently back at Evan. She was a little worried about him but it wasn't the time to ask question since she didn't want to put him in any troubles. She then looks closely at the explanation and started this

Quote:

1+2+0+3+2+0+4+6=18 = 1+8 = 9
She then raised her hand and said: "I'm sorry professor but isn't it ok." She just want to make sure that everything she had done was perfect.

Evy 04-29-2007 10:07 PM

Following the instructions, Evan picked up his quill again and calculated his Destiny number on his piece of parchment. He had always been pretty good in Maths, and Arithmancy was one of his favorite subjects at Hogwarts.

Quote:

September 19th, 2044
19/09/2044

1+9+0+9+2+0+4+4= 29.
2+9= 11.
1+1= 2.
Satisfied, the seventh-year underlined his Destiny number and looked around the classroom. It sure was calm without the usual trouble-makers. Kinda boring, too. He turned to Kennedy and grinned: "I've never had a chance to tell you, but good job on winning the game against Slytherin. I was in the stands and I've got to say, you're a decent flyer."

Granger1814 04-29-2007 10:11 PM

Eric smiled slightly as he was awarded house points for his answer before jotting down his birthdate.

Quote:

07-09-2046
Calculating all of these aspects would be quite intriguing.

Now, as the professor pointed his wand to the board, Eric watched as further instructions materialized on the board. Reading them quickly, he nodded his head and began to add the numbers together

Quote:

0 + 7 + 0 + 9 + 2 + 0 + 4 + 6 = 28
2 + 8 = 10
1 + 0 = 1
Hmm. So his Destiny number was 1. Now what did that mean exactly?

lemondrop13 04-29-2007 10:11 PM

Kennedy noticed Evan smile at her and returned the smile. She had only spoken to him on one occasion but he had been quite humorous, making sarcastic jokes about his herbology assignment. Of course, she had also heard some rumors that he wasn't always the nicest boy in the bunch, but she had no reason of her own to believe them so she liked him well enough.

As Kennedy looked down to her parchment and calculated her destiny number, Evan complimented her on her flying skills. As Kennedy wrote,
Quote:

0+7+0+2+2+0+4+9 = 24
2+4 = 6
Destiny Number = 6
she said to Evan, "Thanks. That means a lot coming from you! Especially considering you scored 10 goals in your match against Gryffindor. If anyone is impressive, it's you!" She grinned back at him. He really did seem like a good guy.

Onyx quickly counted the numbers up in his head. "Aha, yes. A nine, well done!"

“Now that we all have our destiny numbers, lets move on to heart, expression and personality numbers.” He said as he erased the chalkboard with another flick of his wand. “What you are going to do now is write out your full name and label each of the letters with their appropriate number from the Pythagorean number system which is located in your textbooks on page two. As an example…” He trailed off once again as he put up his name with their appropriate numerals on the chalkboard.

“I would at this time like to say that there is some controversy amongst Arithmancers about whether or not the “Y” should be counted as a vowel or a consonant. So with this in light, how we will be counting it will be determined on how it is pronounced within a name. If it acts as a consonant as in “Yolande” we will be using it as such, but if it acts as a vowel as in “Holley”, then a vowel it will be counted as...”

“Now, to find what your Heart number is you will be adding the vowels that are found within your name, like so…” He said with another flick of his wand at the chalkboard.
