Ancient Runes Lesson 2 Today, the room was extremely dark. There were candles lit all around. The silhouette of Professor De Luca could be seen along the walls. She was sitting on her desk indian style with a lit torch in her hand. The flame was controlled, of course. It set the atmosphere for the day's lesson. The wax wasn't getting on the floor so she was good for this setting. ooc: I may have to leave a bit during the lesson so I apologize in advance if I lock the thread while you're posting. |
Belle skipped in, almost slipping on nothing in particular. She regained her balance and blushed, before looking at the teacher and smiling. "You...You didn't see that." She giggled and walked to a seat and set her books down. |
Erinelle walked into the classroom and smiled warmly. She sat down at her desk and wondered what they would be learning this lesson. Gathering her back to her, she took out all that she would need and smiled absently once more. Dipping her quill in the ink she wrote her name on her parchment and waited patiently, her blue orbs setteling on the professor curiously. |
Torie walked into the ancient runes classroom. She blushed slightly as a memory of the last time she was in this room danced across her mind. Spying Erinelle, she approached her, books and bag in hand. "Mind if I sit here?" she asked. "I promise I won't run away again." |
Caitlin walked into the room, looking for anyone that she knew. A couple of people looked familiar, but not many. Therefore, she took a seat near the back of the room, watching the fire while she waited for the lesson to begin. |
"Belle, see me after class. There's something we need to talk about." Allegra winked at the girl and cleared her throat. The class was smaller today but that was okay with her. There was obviously something good going on. "Alright there's a reason why the room is lit in candles believe it or not. There is a rune that is associated with fire. Can anyone tell me what it is?" She was twirling the torch in her hand while waiting on an answer. |
Torie didn't wait for Erinelle to reply, but parked herself on the chair beside her. She quickly stowed away her belongings and got out the parchment and quill she'd need to take notes. "It's awfully dark in here." she remarked to Erinelle in a whisper. "I wonder what we will be learning today?" Torie's bright blue eyes looked at Erinelle as a wisp of blond hair fell forward onto her face. With a sigh, Torie brushed it back and tried to tuck it behind her ear. She then pulled on her ponytail to tighten it while she waited for Erinelle to respond or for the class to begin. |

"Is it Kenaz?" asked Torie as she heard the Professor's question. |
Is it Fehu ask Touy raising her hand. |
"Or," she continued, "it might be Sowilo" |
"Acutally I was looking for Kauno which is known as Kenaz as you guys said. Good job." Allegra nodded to the students and wrote down who got points for it. "Five points to your respective houses. Now Kauno is translated to a torch. That's why I have a torch in my hand of course. Who can tell me another meaning of Kauno besides fire?" |

Dark... nice Jacques thought as he looked around the room. He tried to remember where the professor was, and it wasn't til she started talking he was able to pick where she was. He peered through the gloom trying to see who else was in the classroom. |

Caitlin raised her hand. "It's also known to be an ulcer." |
"Good job to both of you! You're both right. Kauno is translated to mean heat. It is also associated with light and enlightment." Allegra nodded and smirked. "However there is much debate over the open ulcer interpretation. See the shape of the Elder Futhark version of the rune made this a sort of misinterpretation. It is still accepted, though." She hopped down off the desk and brushed a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "Now Kauno's main thing is to do with fire. It is said that Kauno sheds light on dark paths and it helps us see the truth. Now since there is a sort of 'fire' within all of us, I want you to think of something that you are really passionate about. It can be anything your mind wants it to be." Allegra started thinking of something she loved to do when she was a child. She started thinking about playing the cello. Dorky passion, but it was something she really loved since her parents wanted her to experience culture. |
Torie smiled. She liked this game. Unbidden, an image of a towering library filled to the brim with books filled her mind. Hundreds of thousands of wonderful books just waiting to be read. She closed her eyes and sighed deeply, inhaling the imaginary smell of paper and ink, with a slight hint of dust. There was nothing quite like the scent of books. Her fingers itched to hold them, to feel their soft pages and their leathery covers. Unconsciously, she picked up her text and gave it a squeeze. |
Bella propped her head up on her hand and thought about what she loved to do. Drawing, duh. Even Allegra...Er...Professor De Luca knew that. She smiled at the professor and watched her. |
Caitlin smiled, thinking of her boyfriend. She didn't know if it really qualified for the topic, but she was passionate about him. She smiled slightly, then kept thinking. |
Phoebe listened, she didn't need to think about it for very long at all. Raising her hand Phoebe said, "I'm passionate about playing the guitar and singing" She wasn't usually one to answer many questions and hoped that that was what Proffesor De Luca wanted them to say, something along those lines. |

OOC: I'm locking the thread for now because one I have to be out and two I want to give the kids playing Quidditch a chance to jump in on the fun. ^^ |
Professor De Luca came back into her classroom carrying another torch. She set back up on her desk and started thinking about playing cello again. "Now when you have your thought, you'll know it." Smirking, she took a cello out of the box and started to play it. "Now cello is my biggest passion. Yours may be something different. If you'd like to share it with the class, then do so. Kauno is the rune of human passion. Yes if you're thinking about a signifigant other, it works. It's also the rune of lust and sexual love." She grinned and snapped her fingers. It made the entire room go dark except for the two torches in her hand. |
Sini watched as the Professor entered with another torch and started telling the students about her passion. She started to think about what she would consider her passion to be, she think she knew but she wasn't sure. She decided to sit and watch if anyone else shared their passion with the rest of the class before saying anything. |
Erinelle was depply enjoying this lesson, it was very exciting. She wrote down all the connotations for the rune before Professor DeLuca let the lights out and watched her intoxicated thinking deeply of her passions. A slight blush creeping on her cheeks when Si came into her throughts. |
