Ski Lift and Range Not all of the orientation has to be about work, no, while you are busy meeting new people, reconnecting with old coworkers, and even learning about our wonderful ministry don't forget to have some fun as well. Grab your gear [also available to rent] and head to the ski lift. All of this amazing experience comes with your orientation experience at no additional cost to you. Once on the ski lift take in the beautiful mountains as you head to the top and then enjoy the rush of the wind and the snow flying under your skis as you head back down. |
open Logan squealed nervously as she waited in line for the ski-lift…it was strangely quiet at the lift - maybe people were too busy drinking hot chocolate and eating warm winter snacks or checking out that sauna? But still, she wanted to be here, to see the views. The mountains reminded her of childhood, of her teen years…of Marus and Altair and everyone she had known at Durmstrang. |

He couldn't stop looking at the view. "Man this view is amazing.." He breathed in the fresh mountain air. |

Oh merlin Kace? She hadn't seen him since she was what? Fifth teen or so…the summer before Puck's seventh year at Hogwarts. He looked, different - taller…less like a kid and just wow. |

He heard Lo's job and he was impressed. "Woaahh your job title sounds more legit than mine. I will remind myself to not get on your bad side.." he winked. He took in the slope and asked, "Are you here to ski or are you enjoying the view. I was thinking of skiing in a bit if you wanted to join me." he shrugged innocently. "I can even teach ya if you'd like." Look at Kace always being the helpful one. |
Open - who wants to ride uphill with Conley? Skiing. Conley had not gone skiing in years. The last time he had taken to the hills, he had been 32 and had been attempting to show off for his girlfriend. He had had moves, certainly, and had done pretty well, until another skier had zoomed in front of him. Conley had had to turn quickly to avoid said skier and had made a rather remarkable wipeout into a tree. He had been fine, but one of his ski poles had given him a shiner. His girlfriend, who had later turned into his wife, had feared he’d kill himself and Conley hadn’t been back on the hills since. The memory was bittersweet, causing Conley to frown. To be honest, it hadn’t entirely been Willow’s fault that he had given up skiing. Work took up too much of his time. So it was with an rather interesting twist of fate for Conley, that his first official business with the British MoM IMC, that he found himself back on the hills. He just hoped that he wasn’t going to wipe out again. Starting his tenure as a Department Head would not be easy with a shiner. He shifted his feet/skis, as he waited for the next empty lift to swing around. Perk up, he ordered himself. After all, this would be fun. He had always enjoyed skiing. |

Lo just grinned at him and shook her head, "yeah…you were almost unrecognizable with all the new muscle…what did you do spend every day in the gym or did you just become one of those protein shake gym boys? Not that I mind…cause I don't the whole look - it looks good on you" shut up Logan, she commanded herself in her own mind. Merlin, it felt like her brain was tightening in on itself…nothing was making sense at all. |

After grabbing his rented gear, the security head headed off to the lifts, taking in the sights as he moved. Habits died hard and all and it was a beautiful scene with the fresh now. Simon came upon a man around his age already there, one that seemed just a little nervous if his shifting was anything to say in that direction. “Hello…” he greeted politely, coming up beside his new companion to await the next lift. “Little anxious?” |
Stefan! At first, Ava thought that ministry workers were just a bunch of workaholic and couldn't have some fun but now... she proved it wrong. Right now she joined the other employees at this ski resort for a retreat... At least that's what it called. The former Gryffindor was excited because t's been a long time since she went for skiing! Hopefully Ava still remembered how to do it. Man, if only her boyfriend was here... Too bad she couldn't bring a plus one. After getting her ski gear, Ava headed to the ski lift. Maybe Phillip wasn't here but it didn't mean that she couldn't have fun right? Plus, tomorrow she started working as an auror trainee. From what she'd heard, the training was very challenging and required good strength. So let's just enjoy today before the hard days come, right? |

With his snowboard slung over his shoulder, the CMEC specialist whistled his way up the lifts and fell in line. It seems this activity was pretty popular amongst his colleagues. Speaking of colleagues, he blinked once...and then twice when he saw who was in front of him. She did look familiar...like...he'd seen her from somewhere before? Was it in University? One of Josie's friends? One of his friends from...Hogwarts? TAP! TAP! "Hi! You look awfully familiar. What's your name?" Yes...yes, she was a lot younger than him so she must have a better memory, right? Not that he's super old but if she was a friend from Hogwarts, then it would be a lot harder remembering her because faces do change. |
Simon, Ava, & Ethan Text Cut: Simon “A little,” Conley said with a chary smile. It had been a long time after all. He was hoping that it would be like riding a bike. Only, Conley hadn’t ever ridden a bike…so…riding a broom? He shrugged mentally. Conley spared a moment to glance at the male besides him. His equipment was clearly rented and looked to be about the same age as his own equipment. He had spent all Tuesday making sure his old skiing equipment was in good shape after he pulled it out of attic storage at his parent’s house. “How about you?” Text Cut: Ava & Ethan Just then, two more people wandered up. One looked like as if he had been on the slops. Conley waved hello, one of his ski poles dangling from his wrist. “How’s the powder?” he asked the young man with the snow board. “Share a lift?” Conley asked turning back to the first male. He motioning with a ski pole to an empty one that was beginning to swing around. ”I’m Conley, by the way.” |

"I don't know that you also work for Ministry, by the way." Ava said. Was he also working for Magical Law Enforcement? But she didn't remember seeing him back when she had the internship.... Ah, probably he wasn't there yet. While having a conversation with Ethan, there was a man (Conley) offering them (or probably just Ethan lol) to share lift together. "Is there any room left?" She asked. |
Conley, Ethan and Ava At least the other man didn’t seem annoyed or negatively reactant to his question. Simon had realized too late that he might not have appreciated him noticing the anxiety. He had his observation skills to blame and he would have tried to defend himself with appology. But instead he was greeted with the truth and he nodded in acceptance before returning the favor. “The same…can’t say I have much time for sking much.” He followed his gaze to the approaching duo. “Hey,” Simon greeted Ethan, his fellow Law Enforcement member. The former Gryffindor offering a smile to the young woman who looked vaguely familiar. Had she been an intern? Sometimes trying to keep track of everyone for security reasons stretched his memory. “Sure…” he agreed, seeing as he wasn’t about to hog one all for his lonesome and he doubted his companion was the type to do so either. As for room for the other two…they could probably do it. “Perhaps." “Nice to meet you,” the security man said as the lift stopped just long enough for them to get on. “I’m Simon.” Once he got settled on the lift, he got a better look at the new man and it was then that the name he’d been given started to make some sense to him. “Would that be Conley Phora?” |
Ava, Simon, and Ethan Text Cut: Ava ”Looks big enough,” Conely said shifting over so the young lady and the snowboard could join him and Simon. His skis knocked up little bits of snow as he shifted. Since it was so fresh down here, he could only imagine what it would be like at the top of the hill. Or maybe it wasn’t fresh. Maybe most of the employees were hiding out in the lodge where they weren’t likely to break their necks. ”We just may need to get…comfortable with each other.”That was always how his mother had put it when people had to mush together. Text Cut: Simon Conley felt the lift jostle and jiggle a little as the four climbed on. “Nice to meet you, Simon.” If his hands hadn’t been clad in snow gloves and if ski poles hadn’t been dangling from his wrists, Conley would have shook the man’s hand. However, this strange event of an orientation didn’t really allow for the traditional methods of introductions and interactions. So, when in Rome….Conley sort of waved/saluted at Simon. As the lift took off, the man asked him about his name. ”Aye,” he nodded in response to his name. ”I do hope my reputation hasn’t proceeded me,” he joked. In his experience, there was nothing worse than having to compete with a pre-conceived notion that people had about someone. |

He nodded politely and said, "Sure what lesson shall I teach ya first?" Would she be interested in his technique? "I mean do you wanna snowboard or ski?" Two very different techniques to teach. |

Just how cool is this place, yeah? Somebody spoke his language, snowboarding wise! Ethan turned and gave the man a 'sup nod and his mega-watt smile. "Powder is looking good up there. Quite fresh I suppose since it's early...and I haven't seen much people go downhill with their skis yet, so it's promising." People were wasting a good opportunity here. All skiers and snowboarders hunt for fresh snow since it offers the best surface to glide on. The fair-haired Mordaunt glanced at the person the guy addressed and gave him a 'sup nod too. Quote:

Ethan, Conley, Simon! Oh good, thankfully Ethan remembered about her and her other siblings. A huge grin appeared on her face when he gave her a side hug and said how she had grown up since the last time they saw each other. Well, puberty did a really good job on her. Thank you very much. "They are great. I live with Zhenny now, and she's very busy with the healing and midwifery stuffs.... And Teddy is currently working to start his business or something." The former Gryffindor gave a briefly update about her family. "I mean.... I do know you're quite smart to be in Ministry, let alone MLE but I thought you're going to be.. you know, a private investigator or stuff." She knew this guy was just like her twin, so obsessed with Sherlock Holmes and solving mysteries. "And yes, I'm a YATI now!" Cue a beaming smile. Ava gave a polite smile to both Simon and Conley. "Oh, okay then. I don't really mind with that." She nodded in agreement. Those gentlemen didn't seem mind to share the lift and yes, it did look huge enough for all of them. She rarely went skiing and she only knew how lift usually fit like 2-3 people. "Oh, nice to meet you sir. I'm Ava Burton, first year Auror Trainee." |
SPOILER!!: Conely, Ethan and Ava Comfortable with each other was the truth but thankfully not too on top of one another. And the one female in the group didn’t seem bothered. Simon returned the semi-awkward wave that he believed was directed at him from the department head before listening to the commentary on the snow from the one person who’d already been out in it. Looks like the event planners had picked a good day for the retreat or else mother nature had been magically helped along. “Shuuu…you’ll ruin my reputation,” he remarked to Ethan all serious-like to his coworkers before chuckling and clarifying to Conley. “You’re safe…” As long as he didn’t turn out to be something he currently didn’t appear to be. Not that he was giving off those types of vibes right at the moment. “It’s just kinda my job to know people as head of security.” So it wasn't just some random ministry person who just put two and two together. Oh look...the young woman would be joining him and Ethan in MLE. Simon recalled notice of more YATIs on their way into the program he himself had graduated from many moons ago. "Welcome Ava..." |
SPOILER!!: Conley, Ava, Simon Ethan did an 'ooh' face at Ava when he learned what her twin and Zhenya has been doing lately. "I must say, you guys have a very interesting career combination," he said, nodding along as he adjusted his snowboard in front of him, flicking off a few bits of snow from it. "But yeah, send my warmest regards to Zhenya and Teddy. Hopefully they'd get time to visit us in the Ministry." Nod nod. "Teddy will HAVE a field day in my laboratory." he was his junior detective back in Hogwarts, after all. And speaking of detective stuff, Ethan threw his head back and laughed heartedly, shaking the lift a bit. "That is the plan with Si, but you see, I need to gain experience first. So far the Ministry is an interesting place to start things. Once I'm equipped, I'll head out and start my own office...and perhaps the MLE will hire my expertise." Quite an ambition, but that's Ethan Mordaunt to you. HOWEVER, Ava Burton-- the future of the Aurors. Turning towards the people down below them, Ethan took a deep breath and shouted out his next words. "WATCH OUT WORLD! AVA BURTON'S OUT TO GET ALL YOU BADDIES!!" Ethan reached out with his free hand and did awkward, sloppy head pats on Ava Burton's head. She will always be that little Gryffindor in his heart. *PAT PAT PAT* Ethan snickered as he watched Simon and Conley interact. Simon won't do well in undercover stuff, but he really was made for security where authority demanded respect. He'd been around a long time, he can tell, and people ought to respect the old-timer. "And it looks like you did your homework, Mr Bennett." Ethan gave him a toothy smile and a thumbs up. "BUT...what do you know about the new boss? Althea Scabior's out of the office-- and this is most likely not her doing," Ethan asked as he gestured the grand view of snow and mountains before them. |
