Sidewalk and Phone Booth

The Sidewalk and Phone Booth

On a quiet street in London, there stands an old fashioned red phone booth. No matter how often you check, the sign on the door continues to read 'Out of Order'. The Muggles who live in the area cannot remember a time when the phone actually worked, and they just ignore it now.

Those who are visiting the Ministry of Magic know the purpose of this booth. In days past, if you stepped into the booth and dialed 62442 (M-A-G-I-C), you could enter the Ministry as the booth slowly descended into the ground. These days, however, the broken phone booth appears just to be a broken phone booth.

Along the sidewalk near the booth, there are a few benches shaded by slight trees. Although this was once a popular gathering area for witches and wizards, the street is now mostly deserted except for those brave enough to try breaking in to the Ministry. The odd Muggle or two still ventures down the street, so be careful.

The remaining half of his Doner kebab in his hand, Aron turned the corner and waited casually leaning up against the wall and took another bite out of his lunch as a few muggles walked past in a hurry on their way to the nearby tube station. Once they were gone, he nodded his head towards his companion and proceeded towards the phone booth.

"Right then, first things first," he said as he removed his wand from its holster. "I reckon we are going to be here for a while, so better safe than sorry." Which meant that it was time to put up the proper protective spells and enchantments to make sure that no muggles stuck their nose in where it didn't belong. So after stuffing the rest of his food into his mouth, Aron began getting down to business. Hamster cheeks and all. "Repello Muggletum."

Fira 03-24-2014 11:36 PM

As they walked near the phone booth, Josh threw the last bit of his lunch into his mouth and carefully eyed their whereabouts as he chewed. He caught the nod from Aron once a couple of muggles passed by them and followed the department head to the phone booth. Ministry phone booth. Now this started to get really interesting. Breaking into the ministry? Or maybe Aron had other plans. Maybe he thought he might be needing his butt to be secured while he performed his business and that was why he asked him to accompany him.

It was fine with him. He had been pondering and wondering about the ministry was closed anyway. This was an opportunity to look for some clues about the mystery. He swallowed the delicious food down and eyed Aron's wand. "I know the charm is necessary right now but this reminds me of the talks currently going on among the ministry employees about muggles and it irritates me." yeah. It almost sounded like muggles were some kind of creatures to be aware of. He folded his muscular arms and stared at the A&C head. "Why are we here?"

sweetpinkpixie 03-25-2014 05:01 AM

Casting a few more protective charms, namely those to nullify sound, he turned his attention back to the auror. "Oh? What sort of talk is this? Or are you referring to training?" he asked curiously. Aron had no qualms with muggles, both his birth parents were muggles. "Training was meant to make sure to instill the groundwork for the sort of work you and I are doing right now. Since we are all over the bloody place right now, I wanted to make sure that a small group within each department was well versed in those skills." It was hard to tell given the caliber of employees...and some of their leaders.

He was suddenly reminded of honking daffodils and auras. Shudder.

Anyway. Back to the real task at hand. "We are," he said as he slid open the door to the phone booth and took a step inside. "Looking for more clues as to what is going on...along with trying to find a means back in. Even if it means we have to take some drastic measures." Like possibly blowing out the bottom of the phone booth.

Fira 03-26-2014 05:36 PM

What did he mean by asking what sort of talk it was? It was a talk about the way some, or to be more accurately most, people saw muggles. The auror just stared and listened as Aron did his explanation about the last, ministry-wide training thing. While it was something he had had fun, he didn't think it had been unnecessary or not useless. "No, i am not talking about the training." he said. "I am talking about how people tend to consider muggles ignorant or incapable just because they do not have magic and do not know about it." It did not disturb him just because his father and many of his relatives were muggles, it just looked unfair to him. "They were not born with magic. So, it is not their fault, is it? Not that having magic makes someone great or superior to anyone anyway." That was what he though.

Anyway. Back to the work.

Yeah. He pretty much figured that the A&C dept head was going to investigate the entrance to the ministry. Still...he raised an eyebrow as he listened. This could be risky, right? No one, after all, knew what was wrong with the place. Not that he minded the risk. He had questions in mind. "And this task was specifically assigned to you?"

sweetpinkpixie 03-26-2014 11:56 PM

are they going to have a heart to heart about muggles? XD

The grumpy side of Aron was tempted to think that the auror was somehow in cahoots with the Cult. Granted, that was his grumpy and annoyed with the present circumstances side of him speaking, so there was really no rational thought that went into the assumption. "I know plenty of witches and wizards that are more ignorant," he replied, voice still laced with crankiness. Probably half those people who Carter was talking about, the ones who made sweeping assumptions about muggles, were among them. And really, did he even need to mention some of the more brilliant muggleborns in wizarding history?

Giving various parts of the interior a tap with his wand, Aron's gaze rested on the actual phone part and began inspecting the dial pad. "You could say that. We are all setting up in various locations to make another go at getting back in," he explained while performing some basic spellwork on the mechanism. "Better here than the loo. I can do without getting my feet wet again."

He paused his efforts and looked over at the auror. Well, was he going to come on in or not?

lazykitty 03-27-2014 03:02 AM

ya'll has company XD

This was the right place, right? It had to be, because there was the phone booth Roxanne had described to her. So where was her fellow department head? She knew the guy standing out on the sidewalk couldn't be him, because, well, he didn't fit the face she remembered from the 'training'. Besides, this guy had the look of inexperience and inmatureness about him.

Oh, there was Aron. Inside the booth already. Katelynn took a minute to look around and observe the booth first. "I'm surprised no one has come along and vandalized this thing yet." Hey.

Fira 03-27-2014 02:28 PM

hahahha...maybe? :P

"More ignorant." Josh repeated emphasizing the first word. Yeah, it sounded like the man agreed that muggles were ignorant but some wizards or witches were more ignorant. However, he was not going to argue about this now. It was better to focus on the task in hand.

Josh eyed the phone booth from outside as Aron spoke. "Have you ever heard any explanation about how we are kept outside?" he asked as he reached for his own wand which rested in his belt holster hidden under his shirt. "Like how people found out that the building is not letting anyone in. Or how it reacts to anyone trying." If he was lucky, though, he might be seeing that today.

When he found Aron looking at him, he stared back at the man as he took his own wand in his hands. Then he stepped inside the phone booth and started to inspect the place for any dark magic that might be affecting it. But he stopped when he heard a woman talking. Josh looked up from his work. "And who might you be?"

sweetpinkpixie 03-28-2014 01:20 AM

He caught that, the emphasis, but merely chuckled as it seemed that that conversation had come to an end. It WAS sort of ironic though, wasn't it? Talking about possible muggle ignorance in the presence of muggles? More mocking really, but it was still an amusing thought that temporarily crossed the department head's mind. "My folks were muggles," he said in an off the cuff manner. "Most definitely not ignorant."

They had him for a son after all.

Hesitating for a moment, his finger hovering over the dial pad, Aron shifted his attention back to Carter and shrugged his shoulders. "Nothing outside of it seeming to be closed off from the inside. I heard that trying to floo in feels more like slamming into a brick wall. As for this thing...last time I was here nothing happened. Absolutely nothing. Like all the magic was removed."

Hearing someone else, he peered around the auror to see who it was. Oh right, whatsherface... Hadn't she needed to speak with him about something months ago? Clearly hadn't been all that important then. "Such low standards of humanity you have there," he snorted. "There IS a certain odor in here that shouldn't be unfamiliar to the present company though."

Meaning YOU, Josh Carter. Homeless did use these for shelter and, on the unfortunate occasion, the loo.

FireboltAvis88 03-29-2014 04:59 AM

Hello? Reporting for duty...and yes he just appeared xD

This was the first time Jackson had seen the phone booth entrance to the Ministry of Magic. His Head of Department had notified them that they were to report to this entrance to assist in anyway they could....and that was why he was here.

He noticed two men talking at the phone booth. One he recognized immediately. He had seen him at the first section meeting. The other looked familiar but Jackson didn't specifically know his name. He coughed into his hand to get their attention.

Ahem...

"I apologize for interrupting your conversation. I got a notice from Ms. Browne that we had to report here to assist in anyway we can. You can call me Jackson and I here to help in anyway I can. I'll just wait for you to finish your discussion," Jackson introduced himself to the stranger, than standing aside to let both men continue with their conversation.

FearlessLeader19 03-29-2014 07:55 PM

Jory walked up to the group at the same moment Jackson was finishing his statement. He had to make his presence known too so..."Hello, everyone,'' he said to Joshua, Aron, Jackson and the woman he was unfamiliar with. He wondered vaguely again if Aron remembered him from that plant sale at Hogwarts.

Anyway, onto business. "What can I help with?'' That's what he was there for, people. Yep.

pinkphoenix 03-29-2014 07:57 PM

Joining the fun :)

Having received her boss' urgent message, Jade hopped on the Tube on her way into London. She wasn't quite sure which location she would end up at but she would assist in anyway she could.

As she walked towards the general location of the MoM, she noticed that there were already people waiting at the phone booth. She thought that it was it weird that the phone booth hadn't disappeared along with the MoM? And that Muggles hadn't touched it yet. Perhaps it was because of the fact that the booth was of the old fashioned kind and Muggles relied on their mobile phones to communicate.

Anyway, she was now at one of the locations mentioned in the message so she just as well see if they could use her help.

Walking causally up to the booth, she noticed her Boss was already there alongside three men and a woman.

"Hey Boss. Got your message." She said to Aron before turning to the other two, "Hello. I'm Jade. So are we waiting on others?"

sweetpinkpixie 03-30-2014 12:34 AM

Yay more people hai <3333

Oh excellent. There were more people arriving to help. Hopefully none of them would get in the way like weeds in a garden. He had zero patience for messing around. Stress levels were high, you know? Between this Ministry mess and whatever it was that was affecting his wife over there at Hogwarts.

Nodding to the three as they approached, only to raise his eyebrow at the MLE employee and his use of the word 'wait.' The bloke DID work for Emily, right? Was waiting to take action even in her repertoire? She was the one who had suggested blowing out a wall in the first place after all. "You will do no such thing, Jackson," he grunted as he stepped out of the phone booth for the moment. "Waiting is NOT on the agenda today."

"Alright you lot," he said as he shoved his hands into his jeans pocket. "Here is the situation in a nutshell here. It's entirely out of service and may as well be your regular run of the mill muggle phone booth. Nothing magical about it at all. While I am personally all for just blowing a hole out of the bottom of this booth and scaling down into the Ministry, any blowing up is reserved for another location, so we need to come up with another plan of action." He pulled one hand out of his pocket and gave the booth a small tap. "Check around the outside and inside for anything, ANYTHING, that may give us a hint as to what has happened here."

He was going to go back inside and scrutinize the dial pad some more.

Luna_Midnight 03-30-2014 01:33 AM

Small post sorry on my phone!

Having received her boss' urgent message, Sky headed for London. She wasn't sure which one she would end up at. Phone booth sounded good. Surprisingly the phone booth was intact she has suspected that the muggles would have done something to it.

Ooo look people. She would go over there, arriving just in time to hear Aron hand out the instructions. Okay sounded like a plan. She nodded and looked around outside. Hopefully something out there would give them help 'break' into the Ministry.

Bazinga 03-30-2014 05:11 AM

Victoria got the information from the noticeboard about coming to one of these spots to help, though she really didn't know what she could do. She wasn't all that crafty to figure out how to break into a very secure and from what she heard very closed off ministry. As she walked down the street Vic decided not to go to the public toilets, because really.. Toilets no thank you, if they weren't really getting into the ministry the last thing she wanted to do was hang around toilets.

Plus knowing Mariel was going to be there, Victoria thought she would go some place else an represent the department in another area as well as this gave her a chance to use Gavin's advice and mingle with other ministry workers. She never had gotten around to going to a different department, but this counted didn't it?

Seeing a group of people gathered she wondered if this was really even appropriate being that they were in the muggle area. Not suspicious at all a group of wizards standing near a phone booth that she wondered wasn't fully outdated. Did muggles even use phone booths anymore with those hand held things they talked with?

Giving a small smile she walked closer. "Hello, Victoria Maroon. Mariel spoke of possibly coming to help." She looked between the group and noticed was it Aron? He had been the lead of that training wasn't he. "So can I help with anything?" Her voice quiet as she looked around the group not really making eye contact with many. Her self conscious ways forcing her shyness to show it's self.

"Alright Boss." What she was looking for Jade had no idea but she turned her back on the others already glancing around the booth trying to see if there was anything out of place. She didn't see anything but that just meant that she had to look harder. Jade decided to concentrate on the section of wall near to the booth.

Ringo 03-31-2014 12:34 AM

HULLO! Joining all you guys. <3

Ronnie hurried down the almost empty street, hoping she wasn't too late to help out at the phone booth where they were meeting up. Seeing the small crowd of ministry workers, relief swept over her as she noticed they had only just begun. She smiled at the sight of Jory there. She then turned towards the rest of them. "Sorry I'm a bit late, but I'm here to help out as much as there is needed." she said once she caught her breath.

FireboltAvis88 03-31-2014 04:31 AM

No insult intended xD

Wait...he didn't mean wait as in wait until someone does something. He meant wait as in until you guys stop talking and get out of the way wait. But Jackson stayed quiet and did what the man, who had admonished him unfairly, told them to do.

He began examining the phone booth. First on the outside. He tapped and knocked the wood, the glass...ruling out what could possibly be causing the interference. So far he had been unsuccessful in finding the source.

The Announcer 03-31-2014 04:42 AM

You could search to your heart's content, but nothing would come of it. Except perhaps the discovery of patches of chewed gum stuck to the outside of the booth or some carvings of R+H=LOVE and other such things on the wood inside.

It is what it is. A broken phone booth with nothing magical at all about it.

sweetpinkpixie 03-31-2014 12:23 PM

at everyone <33 excuse him. Very stressed out man up in here

Ruffling his hair in frustration as it seemed like yet again this investigation was going to prove about as fruitful as gillyweed, Aron began to tap the phone aggressively while he watched the others poke around as well. Seemed like none of them were finding anything either.

"Obviously," he replied to the two women who had just arrived. MERLIN why were the new comers announcing the obvious? Yes, he knew they were here to help, so it would be in their best interest to make themselves useful instead of standing around and waiting for moss to grow on them. Honking daffodils the lot of them.

"Alright, I'm going to give something a go here," he fumed while twirling his wand between his fingers. "If everyone could stand a few steps back from the booth...I'm not sure of the repercussions of performing spells on it, but no time like the present, eh?" Muttering a few enchantments under his breath, Aron finished things off with "Descendo Maxima."

Would this work? Or was he just going to look like a total buffoon?

Seeing how recent events were unfolding he was willing to bet galleons on the latter.

Bazinga 03-31-2014 01:58 PM

Obviously? Obviously? This was what she was getting for taking time out of her day to come and help with something she had no business doing. She wasn't maintenance, the department of accidents and catastrophes, nor was she part of MLE doing the investigation of why or who is keeping them out of the ministry. So the fact that she came to help should be a reason to lose the attitude and just say hello.

Though she wasn't one to start any conflicts she just gave him a looked turned and moved back when he had asked. She stood off alone not knowing anyone else and watched. Her brown eyes scanning the area. Muggle repelling charms or not if he blows up the phone booth someone will notice. She just hoped things would work so they could just have this over with. She was tired an had enough personal issues to worry about what was going on with the ministry building. She had a building to work in and no the hangar wasn't ideal but it worked and shew as fine with it.

Hey Ju 03-31-2014 08:02 PM

Derek was late and all that, he knew it. But it was for a good cause. He had thought about a few things that could happen while they tried to re-open the Ministry entries and had brewed some specific Potions, which he brought along with him in small vials that no one could see, because one could never be too cautious, especially around Muggles.

The 29 year-old slowed his pace when he approached the phone booth and saw many Ministry employees there already, his boss busy with enchantments and everything. Actually, he seemed to be the only truly busy person there at the moment, which annoyed Derek. Why were they all there then? Just to make Derek feel uncomfortable, he was sure. Ugh. People.

He waited to see what would happen after his boss exclaimed the last spell before saying anything.

The faint clicking noise of gears moving followed by the drone of dial tone could be heard by those close by. Looks like you may be in luck!

Wait...seriously?

Aron honestly felt like cursing at the thing for seemingly working once again. After being locked out for over half a year and all it took was reapplying enchantments? They had tried that before, so what made things so special now?

Wary, Aron remained inside the phone booth and stuck his head outside at the gathered crowd. "Alright, who wants to see how many Ministry workers we can fit into a phone booth," he snorted. While the comment was meant to be humorous, he was also quite serious. "I'm going down, who is coming with me?"

Ringo 04-02-2014 12:01 AM

Ronnie frowned at Aron's comment, realizing she had kinda asked a dumb question. Ah, well. At least she was sounding helpful. Mentally shaking it off and moving in closer to the phone booth, she began observing it along with the others. Then, a spell was cast and she could hear sounds coming from inside. She raised her eyebrows at this, and nodded towards Aron. "I'll come with you," she offered, stepping in after him into the phone booth. Then as she stood waiting, she realized they hadn't quite met before. "I'm Ronnie, by the way. Ronnie Hawkins." she told him with a smile, quickly taking a glance out to see who else was coming.
