"Then..." James muttered back, looking between Harry and Draco. "Let's go in the kitchen. We can talk there..." |
Without another word, Remus walked to the kitchen. When James closed the door Remus turned to face him. "Prongs, what is wrong with you? Draco isn't a bad kid, it's just his family." He said looking at him with stern eyes. |
"I..." James paused, thinking back to when Harry and Draco had first become friends. He had been extremely wary of the boy as well, then. Though, one couldn't blame him... He had dueled against Lucius Malfoy in the Wizarding War, and he was a brutal man. "I know, Remus... Just, sometimes I remember how his father was... How his mother tried to raise him... And look at Harry. He's changed overnight! I'm concerned about that... What does all of this mean?" |
"I'll admit, Harry is acting strange, but these boys have been friends for a long time. Why would it be at this point in their friendship that Harry changes? No, I don't think it's Draco that's changing Harry." Remus said rubbing his chin. "As far as Draco goes, it's exactly the same situation as Sirius's once upon a time." He said looking at his stressed friend. |
"Sirius," James said to himself. Then, as if he had remembered something, he glanced out the window. "Where is Sirius, anyway? I want his opinion on Harry, now, too. I swear on Merlin's beard, if he's managed to have gotten lost in the skies again..." |

Harry accepted the parcel from Draco and began to unwrap when he heard Draco say his father was in Azkaban, did that mean Voldemort was dead too. He could only hope. He finished unwrapping the parcel and saw that Draco had gotten him a pocket sneakoscope and said, "Thanks man". |
"He probably has...but come on. Let's get back to them before Ellie kicks Draco out." Remus joked walking toward the door. He stopped and turned. "Just...don't judge Draco so much, and try to be nice...ish." He said knowing that with James, he wouldn't be able to be completely nice on the first go. He would need to warm up to him gradually. |
"Right," James said with a nod. "Ellie's not right around him, either. I think it's something about how she used to like him. You remember that, right? She wouldn't stop following him around... At that moment I developed some pity for the bloke." |
Remus chuckled. "Ah yes, I remember. She was obsessed with that boy." He said getting a flashback of Harry and Draco playing with sticks out pretending them to be their wands. Ellie followed them hiding in bushes and looking around for her own "wand" just to show Draco. He grinned at the memory. |
James laughed to himself and led Remus back from the kitchen into the sitting room, where Harry, Draco, and Lily now were. With a slight, forced smile, he sat down on the loveseat next to Lily, throwing his arm around her and hoping to join into the conversation. "So, fill me in," he said. "What have Remus and I missed?" |
Ellie opened to a clean page and started writing: I am an idiot. A complete idiot. Why in the world did I used to like that prat named Draco? So, I scratched out all of the things I wrote about him in this. Today is Harry's birthday and the Slytherin prince is here himself. Can't wait to ditch him when Sirius finally shows up. Until then you stupid diary (and me being a stupid little girl). Ellie Potter She slammed the book and shoved it back under that floorboard. After that she quickly snuck down the stairs and out the back door. There she took a seat on their one stair and sighed. Why did everyone love Harry and give attention to Harry and not her? Sure she loved him but just for once she wished she wasn't a second wheel. |
Sirius yawned and scratched his head. "And where did I get myself to?" He wondered, sighing. "James? Remus?" |

"Harry?" Sirius asked disbelievingly, then hugged his Godson back. "I missed you, my Mate." He smiled. He had been calling Harry 'Mate' for a couple of times now, but Harry seemed not to care. "Is your sister here, Harry?" He asked and took out a bag of chocolate. "For you. Now, show me to your parents, then." He gave it to Harry. |
Ellie heard laughing inside. Quickly, she jumped off the step she sat on and ran inside. "Sirius! You're here!" she cried, running over to the man she had known from birth nearly. She hugged him. |
"Whoa there." Sirius grinned and passed another bag of JellyBeans to Ellie. "To my favourites." He winked at Harry and Ellie. |

"Of course I'm your favorite," Ellie laughed. She took the jellybeans gratefully. "See who was here Sirius?" she asked, pointing at Draco. "Anyway, I'm going back outside." She walked back down the stair of the back door. There her depressed expression returned. She continued thinking. Life was fun, and hard. |
Sirius nudged Harry. "Don't mean to tell me he is the same Malfoy?" He lifted up a brow. |
Ellie felt like talking to someone. Her mum and dad were too busy, Harry and Sirius were talking, and Draco? No way. Maybe Lupin. He always understood her. If her parents died she hoped that Lupin would take care of her. Not that she didn't love Sirius. Lupin felt like more family to her than him. She didn't mind the fact he was a werewolf. It didn't scare her. Ellie didn't scare easily. |
Remus saw Sirius arrive and give out sweets to the kids. He shook his head grinning. He was the one who liked to spoil them with treats and objects. Remus preferred talking to them and figuring out who they were. He nodded at Sirius. "Finally made it, 'ey? I'm going to find Ellie." He said thinking of his goddaughter. |
The girl turned to see Lupin walk out the back door. "Hi," she said to him. "What are you doing out here? I would've have expected you to be inside talking with Sirius and dad." |
James rolled his eyes as Sirius handed out the gifts. Honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if the whole Black family fortune had been spoiled over the two Potter children. Perhaps it was because Sirius had always, to some extent, wanted a family of his own... A family that understood him. The Potters had always been that, from when they were just boys in school. But, instead of being the second son, Sirius was now the cool, doting uncle that no one could ever imagine settling down. Somehow, it made sense. "Make sure she's okay for me, Remus?" James asked as Remus went to leave after Ellie. "I love her, but... Sometimes it's just not me she wants to talk to. In fact, it's usually not me." Right, and Remus would be the other uncle of the family; the one that was the youngest of the brothers, and that had always been labeled a pansy. But that was the uncle that everyone trusted with their problems... The uncle that they'd more likely run to. At least, that was the uncle Ellie preferred... ***** Draco glanced over the Potter family and honorary members with a slight, sad smile on his face. He had never known a family like this. Father had been placed in Azkaban before he even knew that he was going to be a father, and Mother... Mother was never quite... right. He supposed it had something to do with Father's incarceration. And the only other family he had... Bellatrix had been killed alongside Voldemort, and the Black family line descended only with Sirius and some halfblood by the name of Nymphadora who his mother hated and decided never to let him meet. Seeing, this, he felt like he was instruding on something personal. That was why he had never made an effort to be around Harry while the rest of the Potters were crowded about, or even when the two professors talked to him at Hogwarts. Even if they were best friends... he had to draw the line somewhere. That happened to be at family. And... as far as he had seen, this wasn't even normal. Today, it seemed more like Harry was coming back from a long journey, rather than meeting them, just as he had yesterday, to celebrate his fifteenth birthday. He hadn't seen Harry in a while, but he was different. Why..? What had happened to him? |
"Eh...the adults got boring." Remus said walking up to her. He sat on a rock and asked, "So what's new Ell?" |
"I'm just so frustrated Lupin," Ellie told him. "It seems as if no one understands me. I don't even know if I understand myself. Harry gets all the attention," she mumbled. "He's always gotten all the attention. I expect when I was born he had been idolized more than me as well." She looked up at him. "And then there's that Malfoy boy. Well you know..." she reminded, turning faintly red. "I don't like him anymore," she corrected. "I promise." Ellie sighed. "Maybe if I stopped trying to get people to notice me, they would actually pay attention, and I wouldn't be in trouble all the time. Look at me," she laughed. "I have a hard time explaining myself as well." |
