Rupert Grint talks freedom from Harry Potter series, Shakespeare & nudity on stage

Rupert Grint participated in a couple of interviews with Metro and the Telegraph during this weekend's V Festival, where he spoke about being liberated from the Harry Potter franchise after nearly a decade's worth of work, his decision to never do nude work on stage, unlike his Harry Potter costar Daniel Radcliffe, and some souvenirs he kept from the film sets.

Quote:

‘I feel free after all these years. It’s been nine years. Still, it’s weird because we’ll still have to do all the promos to the film next summer after feeling like it’s over.’
Quote:

"I would love to do some theatre, but I refuse to get my kit off. I would do anything before doing that."
Rupert also noted that he'd love to act in a Shakespearean production as a means to hone and grow his skills as an actor. For now, Rupert's only upcoming project is the Eddie the Eagle biopic, which will begin production soon.

Of the memorabilia Rupert kept from the Harry Potter films:

Quote:

"One is a golden egg [the magical goal of the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament] and the other is one of the chess pieces, because they are just so amazing to look at," he says.
UPDATE: Rupert spoke to the Daily Record at the V Festival about how sad it was for the Harry Potter series to end - despite telling the Metro, as shown above, that he felt liberated from the series - how interested he is in future projects, and his love scene in Cherrybomb. Three new photos of Rupert - including one with the Record reporter - from the music festival can be seen below.

Quote:

"It's been quite weird finishing Harry Potter.

"It's taking a while to adjust to it all and it does feel weird because it was such a regular routine in my life.

"Suddenly not doing it is strange and I don't know what I'm doing next.

"It was quite sad because it took a long time to get to know people and then I was saying goodbye.

"The wrap party was quite sad.

"It's kind of scary and I'm keen to carry on acting in various projects."
On Cherrybomb:

Quote:

"It was an experience stripping off and I found it quite embarrassing. It was in a room full of people. I didn't get ribbed about the scene by my mates at the time because I kept quiet about it."

And he insisted: "It's quite tasteful and not graphic. It's pretty tame actually."
Rupert also discussed the variety of instruments he tried to play on a short-term basis.

Quote:

"I tried for so long to play instruments but I couldn't.

"I've tried to play a succession of instruments from the accordion and saxophone to the banjo and guitar. It would be cool to learn but I don't know. I don't think I can."
For those in the London area, remember that Rupert will be partaking in a panel discussion about the DVD release of his indie film, Cherrybomb, at the Apple Store on Regent street on Monday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Admission is free and open to anyone. SnitchSeeker will be front and centre at all the Cherrybomb events with Rupert taking place tomorrow, and will have everything up to minute via our official Twitter.

ah... the reasons to be a fan girl!

For some reason, when I read "I refuse to get my kit off" I started cracking up.

And...on a whinny note...I want a chess piece too(● ´З`)

I'd love to see him in Shakespeare; I can only see him as a jester, for some reason. :xd:

Ahaha, same here. It's hard trying to take him seriously without the image of Ron popping up. I guess it must be b/c of the ginger hair. ^_^

I knew Rupert wouldn't go the same route Dan did when it comes to theater. :lmao:

Rupert's so cool and awesome!

I liked it when he said he wouldn't take his kit off

Wonderstruck 08-23-2010 12:12 AM

I imagine it would take a certain mentality to do what Dan Radcliffe did and be stark naked on stage in front of a crowd of people. You must have to be incredibly comfortable about being in front of people!

Aww, this is proof that they are moving onwards :)

Looneybird 08-23-2010 01:59 AM

"His kit?" :xd: Ah, I love Rupert even more now. I would love to see him to Shakespeare though. It might take a little getting used to but for some reason I can imagaine him going the mile for it.

I love Rupert:ron::ron:

insanelysyd95 08-23-2010 03:44 AM

He's so lucky! Pretty genius to take an egg and a chess piece. I'm super jealous of the chess piece. It'd be funny if he tried to smuggle one of the giant pieces off the set :)
Overall, great interview.

well, rupert, join the RSC and get some Shakespeare under your belt! I'd love one of the trio to take up residency at Stratford for a season or two.

I have just read the 'Sunday Telegraph' article. and i am disappointed that afine paper such as that is going down the Daily Mail route of cheap and lazy reporting. They have deliberatly implied a veiled attack on Daniel by Rupert, which i'm sure Rupert hasn't made. And to quote from the Sunday Telegraph's review of Dan, which wasn't so much a review as an excuse to rant on about his own personal gripe, something he failed to do a few weeks later when the Dr Who tv star Billie piper made her debut on the west end stage. Strange they never mentioned the Daily Telegraph critic who loved Dan's performance.

That's nice...
He is cool..

I think it is kinda cute that he makes a little fun of Dan in his interview. It shows that they are real friends.

jain 08-23-2010 05:41 AM

green queen, i have absolutely no problem with Rupert's take on the nudity issue, we've read before about his admiration for Dan's courage in taking on the role. But, the article is written in a way to imply disapproval and an excuse for the newspaper to regurgitate an old 'review'-and i use that term lightly. and make it appear somehow that Rupert is above such gratuitous and shamless self promotion. the article is a lazy and nasty piece of editing.

Nice interview!

Emilay 08-23-2010 07:25 AM

Great interview by Rupert as always :) This quote made me laugh > "but I refuse to get my kit off" (It sounds so like Rupert)

jain 08-23-2010 08:18 AM

it is possible to feel liberated and scared with the end of Harry.
