Platform 9 and 3/4 to move in September

The Londonist is reporting that come September the mock-up of Platform 9 and 3/4's at King's Cross station, London, England, will be moved. It will be re-located to allow for construction work and will be placed at the front of the station, near the ticket office. There's no word on if or when it will be moved back.

I will have to visit it. Since the building work covers it up at the moment.

Drusilla Black 07-22-2008 01:14 PM

Wait a minute! There is a platform 9 and 3/4?

Awww...I wish I could go and see it. Even if it is being moved.

HarryThePotter 07-22-2008 01:17 PM

I was planning to visit it in October, actually. Hmm..

It's playing at the Apollo Victoria Theater, which I think is near the King's cross.

Padie 07-22-2008 01:34 PM

I hope they move it back to place :/ Gosh, I wish I could see it!

Slytherin Fox 07-22-2008 01:45 PM

Wow, this is interesting! I had no idea it even existed!

Disneymaniac 07-22-2008 01:49 PM

It is a wall with a trolley in it, with the sign above it. It is currently on platform 11. Where it is filmed.

harryzabest 07-22-2008 02:06 PM

wow i had no idea it actually existed!

Hermionespell 07-22-2008 02:10 PM

I really hope that they move it back when the construction is finished!

Milau ELF 07-22-2008 02:16 PM

This is me there a while back

Wayfarer 07-22-2008 02:47 PM

Cool pic, you should use it to make your first SS siggy. It's nice to know they aren't, for the moment, taking it down.

jrig426 07-22-2008 02:48 PM

i have always wanted to visit it
i'll have to make plans to visit it

Eclipsed 07-22-2008 03:16 PM

Lol, hope they bring it back after the work.
I saw it last week with a friend.
It looks awesome. =D

Steelsheen 07-22-2008 03:26 PM

construction? is this related to the news a while back that they're gonna knock down the clock and the surrounding area to expand King's Cross?

evanna11 07-22-2008 04:24 PM

If I ever go to London, I'm definitly going to visit it (and run into the wall :) )
It's nice they will still have it, only move it. Kings Cross is thinking of the HP fans:)

Not an actual platform, perse, just a mock-up of one. With a sign and a trolley. There's a photo in the article.

No, that's near Victoria station.

I knew this sounded familiar XD I'd say probably.

oh no! then it means that the hundred year old structure will go bye bye and Kings Cross will look different from here on end. i guess the Kings Cross scene in DH will be shot in the sound stage and since the actual location would be unrecognizable.

EmmaRiddle 07-22-2008 04:56 PM

That's a good point. I guess only time will tell. Don't we only see it in the epilogue? That part would be difficult to film; you don't want to end an 8 film franchise with different actors but at the same time would prosthetics be enough?

there's a rather important scene involving Harry and Dumbledore in Kings Cross (in fact in the book the chapter was named after it ;)) so it must look the same as it did in the earlier films. as for the Epilogue, well they could get away with the new Kings Cross but i doubt it, a lot of the Epilogue hinges on the nostalgia, again the importance of keeping the old look the way it is as the old generation passes the torch to the new one. (besides they're not sure of including the Epilogue in the films anyway)

^ But is it actually King's Cross? We don't know for sure, that's just what Harry imagines, as his 'safe place'. That could easily be changed to, for instance, the Hogwarts Express. Same resonance, after all. I mean, it's not like they're gunna stick to the naked thing  For all we know the train station could change in those 15 years, it's not impossible.

oh i dont think its beyond them changing things around (i mean really at this point we really shouldnt be surprised with drastic changes), but i think for the sake of interpretation and audience's familiarity its best that they keep it at Kings Cross and it looking like it did from the earlier films. also there is special significance to why the setting is Kings Cross, JKR explained it herself-- it represented the crossroads so to speak. Harry was in limbo, a transition point between the land of the living and the afterlife; Kings Cross represents the same thing-- the transition between Harry's life being raised as a Muggle and his introduction to his heritage as a Wizard.

as i've said its an ideal, and from a film making perspective, it makes the most sense (to me anyway) to follow what was in the book. naked bum is not a requirement though, i dont care how willing Radcliffe is to drop his knickers  although again from the film's perspective, it would be best to dress Harry in whatever attire he "died" in, just so that the audience understands that he's in limbo.

...

They can't just move Platform 9 and 3/4! Especially in September! O_O How will we all get to the Express!? :faint:

That's it. To fight this, we'll just break the Statute of Secrecy and all take our flying cars to Hogwarts. <_< That'll show 'em.
