J.K. Rowling confirms 'Fantastic Beasts' finale of 1945 Dumbledore, Grindelwald duel

It seems that 19 is just as much of a lucky number for J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World as seven was.

Rowling admitted that the five Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films will span over a 19-year period, starting off in December 1926 New York City, and completing in 1945. This was the year, as stated all the way back in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone almost 20 years ago, that Dumbledore and Grindelwald had their famous duel, and the Hogwarts Headmaster became owner of the Elder Wand upon victory.

J.K. Rowling: "This whole story will span 19 years, so hardcore Potter fans I think will know what that means. If we're going from 1926 to 1945, they'll know what it's about."

"It was enormously hard (to keep Johnny Depp's casting a secret), and I can't believe we kept that under wraps until barely a week from the movie, so I suppose we kind of wanted to give people a surprise, that reveal," she told news show Entertainment Tonight. "(It) would've been nice to keep it a little longer, but I think we're pleased we got this far."
The author also teased that there is a long story behind Depp's casting as villain Gellert Grindelwald in an interview with Access Hollywood, and that there will be more of the Dark wizard in the second Fantastic Beasts film, out in November 2018.

Producer David Heyman and director David Yates, along with Rowling, have confirmed numerous times that Grindelwald's role will expand hugely in the second movie, set in Paris and the U.K. Set to return to the sequel are Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindewald), and Zoe Kravitz in a role that will soon be revealed to moviegoers later this month. Albus Dumbledore's casting is currently underway.

And Grindelwald is Johnny Depp! :D (it's a ecret that everyone knows. ;))

I wonder if the series will go into Dumbleodre and Grindelward's romance? Also, if Newt Scamander has an important part to play in the defeat of Grindwlward.

its unavoidable methinks, because part of the intensity of the drama between them is because they were a pair before, and conflicts that arise from that kind of beginnings its always the most tragic. i just hope in this day and age that the media will just take it as some sort of a footnote and move on to the story and not get sidetracked about sexual orientation.

I hope whoever is cast as Dumbledore looks similar to how Michael Gambon looked in the HBP orphanage flashback. That would make for some great continuity.

oh yeah, good recall there. i wonder if they would follow the hairstyle too? also as per the timeframe they mentioned, then there should be a moment where DD would be crossing paths with young Tom Riddle. in HBP it made it appear that DD didnt really have any earth shattering concerns at the time. now with FB, i gotta wonder just when would DD make the time to actually seek out this weird boy that gave other orphans such a hard time.
