Hermione's mother cast in Deathly Hallows

British actress Michelle Fairley has been cast as Hermione's mother, Mrs. Granger, in Deathly Hallows. Of the part, she had this to say:

Quote:

"They wanted to do shooting for the film on the press day for the play I'm in at the Old Vic which meant me being in the theatre all day. So, initially I couldn't do it.

"So it looked as if the part was gone until the director came back and said that he wanted me for the part. They have now arranged new dates for the shooting which will take a couple of days.

"I'm delighted as I've a lot of friends and family and their children who all love Harry Potter, so it's lovely to be involved.

"I've never seen any of the Harry Potter movies or read any of the books," admitted Michelle, who now plans to watch the films and read the books in preparation for her part.

"It's not a very large part, maybe three or four scenes which will take just a few days filming. But it's very nice indeed for me."
Photos of Michelle can be seen here:

Um. I assume this is just a flashback kinda thing, right? We don't see Hermione's parents in DH....

finfin91 03-04-2009 04:12 PM

This is great. I always wanted to see Hermione's mother. The only time we saw her parents were in Chamber of Secrets at the bookstore. There is a statement about her dentist parents moving to Australia and that Hermione changed their memories so that they wouldn't remember that they had a daughter. I'm not sure what scene they would have in the DH.

Naarlii 03-04-2009 04:13 PM

Oh Interesting. She does have some resemblance to Emma which is good ^_^

I know, I was a bit confused about this, too. What scene could she be in? It also means that her father was probably cast, too.

we see her mum in CoS don't we?, but just mr weasley speaking to two people in the background as Mr Malfoy says 'muggles' in the book shop, but i think that she has some resemblence to emma, which will be good. . . i can't think what part of the book has the Grangers in though . . . maybe there will be a scene of hermione muddling their minds and carting them off to austailia - we'll just have to try to wait won't we. :)

Well they will change the way things are done, add in a few things so its hard to tell what they the scene will actually be, it could be just a moving photo that hermione keeps with her throughout her journey to look back on.

She looks very mummy-like doesnt she

Deadmau5 03-04-2009 04:45 PM

Either a flashback or they'll show the scene where Hermione makes her parents think they're on vacation and not named Mr. and Mrs. Granger?

Jojogali 03-04-2009 05:08 PM

Yey :D DH is gaining booody !

GinnyW21 03-04-2009 05:32 PM

EmmaRiddle 03-04-2009 05:33 PM

Maybe in the film they don't get sent to Australia.

Kazters 03-04-2009 06:09 PM

Lestrange 03-04-2009 06:24 PM

i like her, she seems very grateful about her small part

French_December 03-04-2009 06:30 PM

1) Was she the same woman who played Hermione's mother in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?

2) Hermione mentions her parents, but we never actually see the in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. How are they going to do that?

They might not be seen in Deathly Hallows but reference is made about Hermiones parents being moved to Australia I think it was and their memories wiped for their own safety .

Even if they're not in the book, that doesn't mean they won't add them somewhere for a little while in the movie.
Simple as that.
I can't wait to see what they're going to do for her scenes :D

Jaina 03-04-2009 07:14 PM

And again they change the book:(

StunningDelaila 03-04-2009 07:52 PM

I agree w/ the second part of what you said.....maybe a flashback while Hermione is explaining the Harry the lengths she went through to be able to travel w/ them hunting horcruxes.....her parents moved to australia and dont think they have a daughter....Monica Wilkes i believe is the modified memory name of Ms. Granger

That\'s not necessarily true. In all likelihood we will see maybe a montage or something of the preparations that Ron and Hermione went through to ensure they were not going to leave their families in danger. We do hear a fair chunk about Hermione\'s parents at the start of the book as she explains what she has done, and that is probably what is being filmed.

Whether its a montage at the beginning, or a flashback, it sounds like a nice idea to have her mum and dad in there, we always see Ron\'s parents and never Hermione\'s. If they are mentioned in the book, put \'em on the screen!

iwantorlando05 03-04-2009 08:14 PM

She will probably be at the wedding. Anyways, she should probably read the books or atleast watch the movie first....even though her character isn\'t really in any of them. Which is a shame. I always wanted to see more of Hermione\'s side of things like her parents and where she lived. Maybe they will put that in the movie. Hermione does mention the trio going to her house to hide out after they leave the wedding, but they decide it\'s best not too. And of course Hermione modifies her parents memories, so maybe they include that or something. Either way...I can\'t believe they\'re filming Deathly Hallows!!!! This is crazy!

Paint.the.Limelight 03-04-2009 08:14 PM

Cool! She looks a bit like Emma.

flicka? 03-04-2009 08:22 PM

I don\'t understand why we need hermione\'s mother. Could someone explain why we need her mother? As far as I know she only mentioned casting a spell on her parents and sending them to australia.

Did they add a new scene?

Potter for Minister 03-04-2009 10:45 PM

Hmmm...alright, I\'m o.k. with this.
