There are 5 stages;

I've progressed to the last one. Just imagine how much extra work they've created for themselves. That alone is LOLworthy.

They've started shooting subsequent films before prior to the latest film coming out. I'm pretty sure they did that with Chamber of Secrets.

I'm in amusement right now. They're gonna have SO MUCH crap to do now. They're gonna have to push back so much stuff when it comes to merchandise and advertisement. Their advertising department must be facepalming.

No matter what the reason, we all just have to make peace with this matter :) *sends soothing spells amongst the crowds* ;)

i'd take a gallon of that soothing spell to go please :D

you know it does make me wonder why WB didnt think of optioning Twilight. i mean when did they start pre-production for that? last year? WBknew that 2009 will be a loss-- us fans and observers saw that waaay ahead, i'm pretty sure they did too. why didnt they do something to curve that?

I agree. However, obviously it's still a financial decision. But lets be realistic people, Warner Brothers is a major corporation. Without major financial backing from stock holders, the HP films would be half as good as they are.

I'm wondering if this was the reason for the distinct lack of publicity the film received up until recently. They must have had this in the works for a while.
I think that is exactly why we waited so long for something. A few people predicted this, and I didn't listen. I joked about it, but they had a better idea than I did.

Quote:

 Twilight is popular undoubtedly but I really don't see it scaring Warner Brothers
Exactly. Twilight has to find a larger audience than just it's fanbase, and I don't know if it will have large enough appeal for non-readers. It may, but considering how well OotP did against the competition last summer (and that included the Simpsons Movie, which came out onle 10 days after the release), Twilight wasn't going to hurt us too much, unless HBP was very bad.

...

Ugh. If they really wanted to release the sixth Potter film in the summer, they would've done that in the first place!

*CHACHING*Apparently, it is to WB. Like someone said in a previous post, they'd get big profits with either dates as a lot of us has been waiting for this and would definitely barge in the theaters the second it comes out.

Ditto on your last paragraph. But they're TPTB, so meh...

I just hope with all this ruckus that this movie is (and better be) worth the wait...

Definitely but rather it's about maintaining a certain level of profit rather than creating more. Watchmen and Terminator are also due out next year but they can't take for granted that they will be well-received. And even then, Harry Potter is in a whole different league when it comes to making money. It's a certain success and that's what WB needs in the aftermath of the strike.

lovehp4e 08-14-2008 11:26 PM

I have to admit, I am completely bummed. We just get the trailer, and then its moved. It was one of the things I was looking forward to most this year. Sure, they do have their reasons, I think that any time of the year fans would have still gone to see it though?

I dunno... *sigh*

EmmaRiddle 08-14-2008 11:30 PM

^ That's not the point. They KNOW fans will see the film which is why they're moving it - so that they can make a definite profit next year where there's a gap in the market.

luv16 08-14-2008 11:36 PM

Wow.... I did not see that one coming...
this is totally unexpected. what's wrong with WB??

PhoenixFlare319 08-14-2008 11:38 PM

i can't believe they would get all us hyped up about a coming movie and then crush it three months before. Especially to those fans who have been counting down to the very day it came out. just unbelievable.

purebloodprincess87 08-14-2008 11:44 PM

OMG...WT*...THEY CAN'T DO THAT...The trailers already out....the movies done and their are pix from the movie.

They say there pushing it back to summer, because more people will go see it in the summer. I have a feeling (even if it's probably not true) that seeing as Twilight is coming out the month after their afraid more people will go see that instead of HBP....OMG I AM POED
>:/ :pirate:  :ninja: :hack: :violin: :smash:

moonchic07 08-14-2008 11:45 PM

Even so, who cares about a film gap, they can put a less popular one in there, we were all waiting for November for this movie, and now the only good movie coming out this year will be Twilight. This isn't right, this isn't fair, it's outrageous!!!

...Today isn't a good day...

Well not only Twilight. But Quantum of Solace is due out in November. This is just crazy. All about money, which won't really matter in the long run. I'm sure, with it being released around Thanksgiving, that it would probably have racked in the close to the same numbers they'll receive in July! Their PR people are probably having fits right now though. I find it kind of hilarious to think about actually.

luvtheweasleys 08-15-2008 12:27 AM

I am sorry but this is just a huge marketing ploy to attack the summer months of revenue...they want a huge blockbuster that isn't fighting all the Christmas based movies....such crap! Potter fans will see the movie whenever it is released. What a huge let down for all of us.

cgold 08-15-2008 12:34 AM

WTH!!!!!!!! I can't believe this crap. The writer's strike has been forever. I think this is very late in the day to be telling the fans. The reason is a bunch of crap.

Pottermaniac 08-15-2008 01:29 AM

I pity Star Wars fans. They had to wait 20 years.

I'm in the disapointment stage.

Rootless.Tree 08-15-2008 01:48 AM

WTF, WTF, WTH.
Ah yep.
Aren't they fabulous. <_<

The douches, it's summer spring, in November where I am. & THEN IT'LL BE WINTER NEXT YEAR IN JULY. & then, I bet ya, we won't get it until like, two months after it's realeased in the UK/USA.

I think it's time to boycot the WB.

Mell 08-15-2008 01:52 AM

Ahh...it's all about the money. Well it will be winter over here but that obviously doesn't matter to WB. Really not fair to make the fans wait another nine months to see this film. With all this extra time maybe they can put some more scenes into it.

Little Trooper 08-15-2008 02:11 AM

I was so in sock when I read this. But its not going to stop me from seeing it. but it sucks. I will not blame HBP producers its not their fault. but WB should have thought this though.!!!!!!!! Before they came out with the trailer. that really erks me in so many ways. Okay i'm done before I go off.

SiRuSbLaCk 08-15-2008 02:23 AM

Warner Brothers is just scared that Twilight might give them a run for their money.

I mean, honestly, it comes out like a week after the original release day for Half-blood Prince.

Emma C.D. Watson 08-15-2008 02:27 AM

Fans are NOT happy about this. I know I'm sure not. I was planning on watching it on my birthday (Thanksgiving this year, coincidentally), but now I can't D:< I'm more than a little upset. I know they had their reasons and all that, but still. Ughhh.

Mrs_ronald_weasley 08-15-2008 02:53 AM

ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME?!?!?!

me and my friends have been planning this day for months already! FOR MY BIRTHDAY NO LESS! GAH!

plus the fact the the WB has announced the date in their trailer doesn't help them either.

do they realize that the movies are so big that people will go see them no matter when it is?

idiots.

juanitalilangel 08-15-2008 02:55 AM

Well this is totally sad but, I'm still super psyced to see the movie :D
a longer wait won't do me any harm. now even more things to look forward to in 2009!! :)

That was my thoughts exactly. HBP will make millions no matter when they release it, because it's Harry Potter.

well that's why they moved HBP to the summer, they know it will rake millions, they just want to maximize that opportunity on a season they badly needed a tentpole. and about editing trailers, posters and other promotional material, thats nothing new, they've done it plenty of times for countless other films in the past.

edit: and if i may repost what i said earlier in the thread, this clearly explains the decision behind why WB did what they've done:

Quote:

Quoted from Mr Horn
we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”
in other words: WB is in danger of great financial loss in 2009, so we need Harry Potter to bail us out.

thats it plain and simple.

looking at the lineup WB has for 2009, the only movies that optimistically looks to make money would be Watchmen (March 2009) and Terminator Salvation (May 2009), other than those two, no other WB movie completed are sure to make money and most projects are are stuck in development hell (thanks to the strike). even if Watchmen and Terminator turns out to be monster hits the size of The Dark Knight or Spiderman, WB's overhead is so huge they'd wind up with a loss anyway. so they need another sure fire hit at the most lucrative movie season to make them end the year in the black: Harry Potter.

yes it sucks. yes it makes you wanna go AK on the WB head honchos. but Harry Potter, just like everything else WB owns, is an investment, and they will place it anywhere they see fit that will make the most money.

theycallmetheSeeker 08-15-2008 04:57 AM

I love the balls that WB is showing by essentially coming right out and saying "We're pushing this so we can make more money".

After all, the studio is hurting, let's not forget, The Dark Knight has only reached the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, I'm sure they were expecting much, much more return on that so their strategy is make up for all that lost cash on Harry.

:morons

Mrs_ronald_weasley 08-15-2008 05:17 AM

i still think that the WB should tell everyone that it's coming out at a certain time (via Trailer) and then change it just so they will make more money in the next year. It's all just screwy.

I would laugh though if a bunch of fans went down to WB studios.... :D

Merope Gaunt 08-15-2008 05:54 AM

I think... I might cry. The countdown timers for the release on other sites were all saying like 98 days.... now its 335..... WB are scared that Twillight will do better, so they are making HBP wait. That way there is no competition.
They are like the Grinch. I have lost all respect for them now.

HP301 08-15-2008 07:51 AM

I was SO outraged when I read about it. This is just plain stupid. All stupid
WB thinks about is how to make more money, and they think moving the release date to the summer will be much more a success then releasing it in November. They don't even care about the real fans. I'm terribely disappointed. Way to ruin it WB.

elmo_the_emo 08-15-2008 07:57 AM

NOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is SO sad i mean we were all so happy that it was almost november then they had to kill it by moving it to next year......
oh well at least there was a good reason for it

Kazters 08-15-2008 07:59 AM

err right the film is ready, they have merchandice out ready to go for november, and wb decide they want to make more money...

christmas is the perfict time for potter, look at this summer one block buster film (the dark night) over shadowed every film.

wb this is a mistake just so they cant make money!

Also what was the point in setting up the premier tickets and for the royal performance..

Cosmic 08-15-2008 08:00 AM

Will they be changing the film at all?

They shouldnt be able to do that, Fans have been waiting for this for like 11 months already and now they are finding out they now have to wait another 11 months. They are only going to cause themselves more hassle because they might get alot of angry mail and they will probably get less views.

1. Yes it is extremely annoying.

2. No you did not blank out and yes it is true.

3. They are extremly annoying but they did not think about changing dates till now and they could potentialy lose millions.

4. Even though i suggested it , they will not do anything and if the messages are bad enough they will just alert the police.

5. They wont change they film because there would be no point as it is done and they have to get ready and plan the next film.

6. Yes i am not happy about this either :(.

Moony 08-15-2008 10:15 AM

I can't believe it.
And no, it isn't a good reason.

It's absoloutley shocking.

David Diggory 08-15-2008 10:16 AM

it just goes to show that warner brothers are just thinking about money, they don't give a damn about all us loyal fans who have waited so patiently on this movie being released and just when the movie is in sight they move it back even further, so now we have to wait nearly a year to see it now, it's a total joke.
all us potter fans should start a petition to get the movie date changed back , cause we aren't some small group of fans there is millions of us world wide. think about.

Ms Wood 08-15-2008 10:25 AM

I think maybe the royal premiere is jinked.

last year it got cancelled because they thought the film 'brick lane' was too controversial.

Now this year it wont be showing HP...

coincidence, me thinks not.

AndromedaBlack 08-15-2008 10:36 AM

Well, I would put this as calmly as possible. But I am afraid that I am incapable. I am furious at this news! How could they do that!? I was really looking forward to November!

Hermionespell 08-15-2008 10:44 AM

I can't believe this!! >_<

It's all about the money of course. They want to reach a bigger audience so that they can make more money. No surprise there. It's just a little strange that they decide to change it now after the teaser trailer and premiere dates and all are out. But whatever.

This is seriously disappointing. I was looking forward to skipping school on the 21st of November and seeing HBP. Now I'll have to wait until summer.

Ozzy 08-15-2008 10:46 AM

I'm just going to wait for the DVD or whatever - if I can wait almost a year, then another one after this, then I guess I can wait a little longer for the DVD too. I'm really, really tired of WBs shenanigans and I'm also really tired of paying twice for these movies (theatre & DVD) since the last three haven't been anything but extremely jumbled and butchered adaptations of the books anyway. The only ones I was totally please with were the first two. Shame Chris Columbus didn't do them all, because then maybe they would be worth the nearly $40 ($80 for DH) bucks in total. He seemed like the ONLY director to actually really give a hoot about the fans and making these movies as close as possible to the real story instead of the money. So I'm not double paying anymore, especially not if WB is purposely trying to get every single penny they can. I won't condone pathetically blatant, almost kidnap-like greed such as this. This company makes billions of dollars - they should maybe think about paying filthy rich actors less instead of taking it out on the loyal fans like this. So take that WB! <_<

This CAN'T BE. Is this some really bad joke? I just read this on another site too, and I just had to check it. THIS just CAN'T be true. I'm in shock. I'm nearly crying. We've been waiting SO LONG for this....They can't do this to us! I mean, if they release a trailer late, I can live with that. But this...........
NO! The official HP site says"in theathers July 17, 2009"
Can't we make some kind of petition.
I'm Siriusly doubting if I will go to see it next year. I don't think I want to see it anymore then.
:cry::faint::hairpull::mad:

CaityCrucio 08-15-2008 10:59 AM

WTF!! Weve got to wait another year after weve already been waiting since last September! If this is just for publisity than thats rediculous! We all want it sooner so why don't they give it us. The films ready otherwise we wouldn't have had a trailer. I'm really annoyed now.

Griffiths123 08-15-2008 11:07 AM

Its not summer in july for us down here in Australia. a release in december like it was originally planned would be more beneficial for them here. a december release is right in the middle of summer holidays. so if they are thinking money, keep the date the same here at least!

Slytherin Princess 08-15-2008 11:13 AM

soooooooooooooooooooo not happy it is outragous everyone has been looking forward to that :( :( :(

Renate 08-15-2008 12:18 PM

UUUUUGGGHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

I'm disgusted........

hermione714 08-15-2008 12:50 PM

*sulks off* I have to go recount the days now, 1...2...3... this is so not right!

EquestrianGal88 08-15-2008 01:28 PM

I really feel bad for all of you who planned on seeing this for your birthdays with your family and friends. Me and a bunch of my friends wanted to get together just before the end of semester and see the movie together as a 'last hurrah' before winter break...guess that's not going to happen now. :(
---> Wait...I feel bad for everyone because we all hoped to see it in November or December of this year.

FoxFire 08-15-2008 01:45 PM

*stutters* I...er...WHAT? I don't ...understand. This is looking like movie biz politic-y stuff to me.

GAH >_<

What a load. <_<

Ginevra_P 08-15-2008 01:45 PM

NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Why are they doing this, it's sooooo not fair!!!

Us fans have to suffer because they're not productive anymore, that's a load of crap!

We have all waited so long for this, planned so much for this and now they take it away from us, that is so wrong!!! They shouldn't do this!!!

h/g ship lover 08-15-2008 01:56 PM

No way!!! No! No! No! I can't believe this is happening! Am I having a nightmare? Aww...I need to wake up! This can't be! Another year? That sucks.

LunaticLady 08-15-2008 02:05 PM

I just heard about this on the radio and had to come here, to check if it might have been a mistake -sadly it wasnt!

WTF is WB thinking?:hairpull:

(So July is a better time? Well yeah before Christmas has got to be the worst time for a family film to come out!
Could it be that WB has other films coming out in November and doesnt want HP to be competition for them?)

Ms Wood 08-15-2008 02:10 PM

Harry Potter 6 release date

SIGN THIS , I KNOW IT PROBABLY WONT HELP.

But even if they think that half the people who sign wont come, they might change their minds.

They know we are loyal and patient allready, a boycott and wait for a dvd, or pirate will happen.

Schokofroesche 08-15-2008 02:16 PM

NOOOOOO.....!!! WHY?? because of money?? they ARE crazy!! I've made my own countdown until this November! I'm so mad! :hairpull:

Mad Eye Touz 08-15-2008 02:29 PM

Hehe

Well at least I'll be able to go see Twilight that many MORE times. And still have Christmas shopping money left over maybe. Right? Though, I did already have this all planned out. Ah well.

OH ... MY ... GOD! 335 days! O.o

Buuuut... That means! I'M IN LONDON THAT VERY SAME DAY! OH, MY GOD!

Mistress Vondella 08-15-2008 03:11 PM

Sigh, I know this is irritating, everyone. I do. Believe me, I was looking forward to HBP releasing some pre-finals stress. So, Now I have to rely on Twilight relieveing the mid-finals stress.

Will I go see HBP as many times as I had been planning? Of course not. It's now coming out in summer and the last thing I'm going to want to do is sit in a darkened theater all the time. As I've stated, I'll be going twice at the outside most.

Seriously though, will their profit be worth it? They have to do a new trailer, they have to make new posters, they have to completely reschedule everything they had planned for it. Including every single contract, and I wonder how many of those has a 'must pay even if plans change' clause. They've given themselves more work, they've irritated the entire fanbase (yet again...), and now we threaten to boycott the movie, which you know will not happen.

Instead of encouraging everyone to sign a petition, that won't work anyway as they've made up their minds, why not just shrug your shoulders and only see the movie once or twice after it's out instead of the 354653165731654 times you had been planning on.

Personally, I think they messed up. There was only 2 movies I had wanted to see this winter....now there's only one. And I go to the movies a LOT more in the winter time. - I've been in twice since May. I was going to movies 2-3 times a month from last October till April.

*skips off and sings along with Touz

Always look on the bright side of life *whistles*

Greedy Leeches!!!!!!

I'm cursing very loudly right now... I will spare y'all. I'm just SO ANGERED and FRUSTRATED!!! Why does it always have to be about the money?! All they care about is having a big opening! How greedy!!!!! WB ARE GREEDY LEECHES!! This is a blow against the fans... they don't care about us or the movie... They only wanna make the bug bucks and they'll stop at nothing... I'm disgusted. I'm gonna go sign some petitions. UGH!!! =(

Slytherin Fox 08-15-2008 03:22 PM

I heard this on the radio this morning and couldn't believe it, I thought there had to be a mistake. Now I know it's really true (cries). It will be out two days before my birthday now, but still no consolation!

Why....

Lord MMJ 08-15-2008 03:36 PM

This is a bad news...

I am waiting for the movie from a long tiime...

PhoenixFlame 08-15-2008 03:39 PM

*confuzzed

If it was ready for November!...gah

WobblingMolly 08-15-2008 04:04 PM

So I've had a full day to think this over. I wasn't that upset last night, but now, I just feel used. I'm an adult. I know that's how the world works, but it doesn't make me feel any better about it. I just feel kind of dirty, degraded.

I don't believe in boycotting the film because it will also hurt the people who actually worked on the movie, and I don't think this was their decision. I will tell you what though, I don't plan on rushing out to see many more WB films or DVDs over the next 11 months. If they want to wait for our money, they can wait.

RemusBlack 08-15-2008 04:21 PM

I am actually crying.

LORDVOLDY 08-15-2008 04:42 PM

I am so depressed. They should be making the films for the fans, not 'the widest possible audience' or what ever. Now the question is...when will they release Movie 7 Part 1?

kidpotter 08-15-2008 04:47 PM

My friend called me to tell me this and I didn't believe her. I was like, "Yeah, whatever. I'll go check and prove you wrong."
I was so mad/surprised that I dropped the phone. Like, my mouth was hanging open.
I am soooooooooooooooooo mad. This is ridiculous.
this is siriusly ridikkulus. (haha. small joke.) (i'm still mad.)

K33P0NR0CK1N 08-15-2008 04:50 PM

They were obviously not thinking of the fans when they made this decision <_<
I was so excited for the movie & I was counting down the days till November

Thinking about it twice though, I think pushing it back to Summer of '09 is a good idea. It's gonna be huge & it's gonna be a major success especially during the summer when everyone goes to the movie theater.

It's not supposed to affect the release of DH part 1 :]

But um WB is still gonna make a huge profit off of it in the summer regardless of how many times you go see it. Just because it's summer doesn't mean people don't wanna go see movies. In fact, summer is the biggest time when it comes to movies. Studios put out big things in order to make profit because people are out of school and work. HBP's gonna make a killing regardless of how many times you go see it.

mysthermione 08-15-2008 05:04 PM

Thats's BS!!! I think we should boycott the movie at the theatres. If we can wait till next summer then we can wait a few weeks till it comes out on DVD if it fails at the box office.
