| | | Half-Blood Prince one of 7 Academy Awards' Achievement in Visual Effects finalists
It was announced in December that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was on the long-list for movies being considered as potential nominees for the 82nd annual Academy Awards' Achievement in Visual Effects category. The list has been thus shortened to seven today, and Half-Blood Prince has made the cut yet again.
Fifteen minutes of each of the seven movies being considered - Half-Blood Prince, Avatar, 2012, District 9, Terminator Salvation, Star Trek, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - will be shown to Academy members, who will pick their favourites, thereby narrowing the list down to the final three nominees. The awards will be given out on Sunday, March 7, 2010.
Nominees will be announced Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 5:30 a.m. PST. We will announce Half-Blood Prince's nomination if the film gets recognised for its achievement in VFX, so stay tuned. |

The competition will be really hard (Avatar, to mention one), but nothing is impossible.
I hope and will be voting for HBP, however Transformers was as well a film with magnificent visual effects who has (in my opinion) a really good chance to win an 'AA'
But from inside myself I do hope HBP will an oscar! I would be more than pleased.

That is fantastic. Though the Half-Blood Prince is facing very good competition, I definitely hope it wins for Best Visual Effects. "And the Oscar goes to..."

Avatar will win hands down.
It's too tough a competition to beat.
But kudos to HBP for at least making the cut1 Hope it gets nominated - and win, somehow! :dobdance:

HBP wasn't that great of a movie. I think that Avatar, Transformers, or Terminator will win. Sry.

Its awesome that it got nominated but Avatar deserves to win that award by far. The effects on that were beyond amazing especially in IMAX 3D
