Allocine, a French movie website, has a new Half-Blood Prince set report and interviews with the cast & crew online. They start from here onwards. While on set they spoke to Dan Radcliffe, David Yates, Tom Felton, David Barron, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Jessie Cave and Matthew Lewis.

Nothing concerning Harry Potter specifically, but I do believe that experiences lived on the stage have an impact on your work. During Eqqus, I learned to maintain a high level of concentration for a long period of time, all the while ignoring whatever was happening around me. In a play, a lot of things happen to you: Once, I nearly fell off the stage! Theatre teaches you to stay concentrated, and play your part, whatever happens. Equus taught me this, and it’s useful in an enormous project such as Harry Potter where there are so many things to do… Like this interview! I now know how to get back to start concentrating quickly when I need to film.

J. K. Rowling announced that Dumbledore was gay. Does this affect the way you approach the character?

Not much, because his sexual orientation doesn’t change the character in general. Dumbledore is still charming, fun, powerful, mysterious, eccentric… and then gay. It’s just something to add to this long list, but it doesn’t change the character. Micheal Gambon gives a wonderful performance in this movie, because Dumbledore has more depth and more things to do. It’s a more interesting Dumbledore.

What can we expect from Draco in this movie?
Tom Felton: Draco plays a more important part in this movie, so it’s nice to have the opportunity to approach the character from this perspective. I have more things to do, the script is awesome, and so far I’ve had a lot of fun. And I’m Draco’s complete opposite in real life, so it’s interesting to be able to play someone who is not like me at all. David Yates and I have talked a lot about Draco and his state of mind in the sixth film. He’s lost his dad in some way, at least as a role model, so he’s kind of left to his own devices and he wants to show his independence. And he’s still jealous of Harry, the Chosen One; he dreams of showing the world what he’s capable of. Even though deep inside, he’s terrified and he knows he won’t complete his mission... It’s a real internal conflict.

How did you approach the character?
We took the time, with David, to work on the script, particularly on the final scene with Michael Gambon, but also on the relationship between Snape and Draco. We read the script, we took notes, and we discussed Draco’s state of mind in those different scenes. His father’s absence made Draco a more complex character; in the beginning, I was probably too one-dimensional in my approach but David gave it real depth. Draco isn’t focused on Harry anymore: he has a mission now, and it really brought something more to the character. Also in the same way we understand Harry’s reactions toward what he’s lived through and the absence of his parents, we begin to understand that Draco isn’t all that bad and that his actions and attitude were really influenced by his father and the way he treats him. There is therefore more research, emotion, subtlety…

Have you already shot THE scene with Dumbledore?
No, not yet. But I’m really looking forward to it.

Are you starting to feel lassitude after six movies? Are you already thinking about what will come next?
It’s awesome to come back every year and see everyone grow up. We watch the previous films when they come on TV and it’s just crazy to see how much we’ve all grown up… It’s really strange… And at the same time, it’s really cool to have that on tape. I’ve thought about the end of it, of course. And I suppose it’s going to be like graduating from school, or something like that, when you leave people you’ve learned to love and respect. This was a first job for everyone! So the thought of leaving Hogwarts and doing something else is both scary and exciting. It will be a mix of emotions on the last day, I think… But I’m not looking forward to that, that’s for sure. As for what’s next in my career, I’m open to anything that can bring a different experience… Even if I’m bad, I want to try so many things, to just try out for something and see what happens. At the same time, I’m not at a point where I can handpick my projects! I’ll take what they give me! (Laughs)

And how are things with Harry fans?
I don’t really have problems with Harry Potter fans, only with the younger ones who have trouble differentiating between fiction and reality. At the same time, if they react that way, it means I’m doing a good job! (Laughs)

David Barron interview:

One of the new characters, Professor Slughorn is quite different in relation to the one in the novel ...

That’s right, Jim Broadbent is quite different physically from the Slughorn in the novel, who is smaller and larger. I’m talking about Slughorn here, not of Jim! (Laughs) But David has always considered him for the role. And Jim is a brilliant actor: he lives through this character and when you see him, you won’t be thinking about the physical differences between Slughorn in the movie and Slughorn in the novel.

The kissing scene with Ron was quite embarrassing to film. He didn’t have much to do: He simply had to stand there and wait. (Laughs) We rehearsed every two days in the morning with the producer David Yates! with no one around. The first kiss was very delicate but then we made sure it would become natural so that we could act it out in front of 70 extras.

"Each film is a little different. Ron is more certain of himself here. He plays Quidditch, has a girlfriend...Some cool [new additions.] We filmed our scenes with Jessie Cave (Lavendar Brown) some weeks ago, notably the kissing scene. Without rehersals, actually: We just went for it! It was a bit intimidating since it is before a Quidditch match and so it was in front of plenty of people! It was embarrasing at first, we were both nervous but we [got used to it] and it went well... The couple Ron/Hermione, I was expecting a little while reading the seventh novel. But it's true that when we are confronted with this scene, it will be rather strange to film. We have a very fraternal relationship, so it will be bizarre. But we will do it, don't worry! (laughs)"
