First official Deathly Hallows: Part 2 epilogue photos released; cast, crew talk film Daniel Radcliffe, David Yates, and producer David Heyman recently discussed the decision to reshoot the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 epilogue at Leavesden Studios in December 2010, rather than keep the original footage from King's Cross for a variety of reasons, not least being that they realised how old the cast looked in the first shoot. The LA Times also released the first official promotional images from the epilogue, with peeks at Dan, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Bonnie Wright as Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny in their later 30s, as well as their Potter and Weasley children. Those can be found in our galleries. “Potter” producer David Heyman was thinking of that when he told Radcliffe that there was no way that three “strangers” could deliver the final lines of the three main characters right before the final fade to black. “The thing we didn’t want was for it to be distracting and I think we figured it out,” Radcliffe said. “We did it with prosthetics, in the end, and I’m sure there will be little bits of visual effects for retouching on those moments when we do a close-up… when you have the prosthetic on for a long time, it’s hard to maintain it, that illusion, and with close-ups you need to fix it up. It’s also a challenge to make someone who is 19 or 20 — an age where their face is still changing — and make them a fully grown adult. I think they looked fantastic though and, if I do say so, particularly mine. Mine looked pretty dead on. That’s me in the future I think.” The makeup team for “Deathly Hallows” was led by Nick Dudman and, to Heyman, the second shot on the “age-up” work was a home run. “It was something very strange and affecting,” Heyman said. “I was really pleased because I thought there was a real tenderness about the last scene, a feeling of closure and the cycles of life. There’s a new beginning and there’s an ending. There are different sorts of adventures for these actors and for all of us. But we made it to the train station together.” |
I sure am gonna miss going to Harry Potter premiers in my Slytherin uniform. |
They did amazing on the epilogue. I loved it! |
Ahhh this is interesting. Hm, I really didn't like the fact they looked the same and was very curious to hear why they decided to do it this way. Now I guess it makes sense. Still rather silly when you first see them during the epilogue. Either way, the movie was wonderful. I'm sure going to miss it all and look forward to seeing all the behind the scenes stuff on the Ultimate Edition DVDs :D |
Awwww sniffles |
They all looked fantastic I've got to say especially Dan and Emma it was a really touching scene. |
loved the epilogue, am so glad it wasn't some other actors at the end. i am so gonna cry again. wish it had been longer but it was great. my fav line was in it so i am happy. i wonder if the kids got to meet any of the "older" actors like Alan Rickman, ETC. Probably not,it still would have been cute to see a pic of the actors as their characters posing with the kids. i for one would have loved to see a shot of "harry", "snape", "Dumbeldore" and little "Albus Severus" :) that would have been so cute. thats just me though  |
The ending was done really well, made me cry all over again!! |
 I don't want it to be over  They all looked amazing... it was really well done |
Aww *tears* They grow up so fast *wipes tear from her eye* It was truly amazing ^_^ |
It couldn't have been done another way to the satisfaction of the audience. The epilogue was amazing! You could really feel the emotion of it coming to an end. They acted it incredibly! |
I thought that the epilouge wasn't as good as I thought it would be. |
aw , the pictures are so cute and bring back memories . i think im about to cry again just looking at these |
''But we made it to the train station together'' :') |
I Loved the Epilogue. Just great. :) |
LOL, I love how Albus Severus has a ferret. For some reason, I see that as a little nod to that Malfoy/Ferret scene in Book 4. P.s....the music in this scene is directly from the end of Sorcerer's Stone, which started me BAWLING. |
I really enjoyed the movie, and thought it was done very well. I love the screenshots of the Epilogue. I just wish they had spent a liiiittle bit more time on the Malfoy family in the movie. They were out of the shot before I could get a good look. >_< :P |
I thought Draco looked like a bit of a weenie. But I loved Emma and how she portrayed a mother, it was just amazing! |
I roared in laughter when I first watched the epilogue.. i mean it was really really wired watching them old.. but they looked way better than this first one they shot before |
Aww I get warm fuzzies looking at these! It actually was really well done! I would've Ron to have had some of his lines from the book because they were hilarious but Rupert was just so awesome anyways in this scene ( looking like a proud daddy) that I can live with his lines being cut. Actually all of them were awesome in this scene, makeup: SO MUCH BETTER than from what we got to see of the cast in makeup from the first shoot. My only complaint is that they didn't shoot as much stuff for the 2nd filming of the epilogue as they did for the first. I hope Yates releases that for the DVD. |
Very nice. But I still can't stand Ginny. I know, I know. Chosen One's wife blah blah she's a hero blah. Never can like her though. Doesn't help that they gave her little importance in the final 2 movies. |
Have some of you seen the first epilogue? :O I wish it was longer too, but hopefully there's more in the mega version of the DVD :D |
The Epilogue was quite good but I wanted it to be longer. |
The pictures are amazing, when i saw it at the cinema i nearly cried at the last scene :( xx |
I would have loved it if it had been a little longer, maybe just because I just didn't want it to be over; but it was beautifully done. I think using the most poignant moments from that scene was the best way to go because they invoked the most emotion. I think everybody looked great, and the resemblance between older Harry and the actor who played his father was spot on. Now I'm all misty-eyed again.... |
aww cute epilogue~ they did a good job with the makeup! but how come they didn't show what Draco's son looks like??? I wanted to see him and also Teddy..... |
I will definitely miss waiting for a new HP movie!I'm soooo teary eyed again! :( |
I think they did the epilogue beautifully; only thing I would change is the length of time. (Particularly because Ron can have his lines about passing his muggle driving test.) I'm still curious about what the first shoot looks like. Please release it, Mr. Yates! :D |
Looks good..... I can't wait to see it in the theatre. |
I thought the epilogue was great, especially that last shot. I'm almost tearing up just looking at it! |
I want to watch the first one! I might go YouTubing... |
I wish they would have filmed the whole epilogue as the interaction of the kids showed their character and it was humorous. I think they didn't have to age Ron as much as they did. I know lots of 30+ age people that look much younger then what their true age is. David Heyman hit the nail on the head with this “when he told Radcliffe that there was no way that three “strangers” could deliver the final lines of the three main characters right before the final fade to black." It had to be them |
:'( but it would be cool for the epilogue to be longer :) |
I think what they wanted to do was make them look somewhat aged, but not over the top. If they had just used makeup for the guys, it may not look any different, and they went through a lot! Stress might be showing on their faces. |
I'm quite happy that they re-did the epilogue scene with better makeup. It was perfect. |
it can't be over |

I'm going to have to break out my Ravenclaw uniform to re-watch movies, now that I can't wear it to the theater for any new movies :( |

I was like "Yey, they used it, they used it!" It definitely needed to be there.:) |
finally! everyone looks so perfectly aged and incredible. I just watched the film again yesterday and teared up when Dan hugged his onscreen son - he plays a father perfectly! |

wow.. they looked sooo old! |
2 shots will live forever As I said in other reply's the whole series will live forever but the 2 scenes that will stick in my mind and I hope they will do posters with were 1) the last shot of Harry,Hermione and Ron on the bridge as they look toward the camera and 2) the shot of the last pic above with them looking at the train they will stick in my mind forever |
I didn't notice it in the movie (I guess I had something in my eye) but it appears Ron has a "butterbeer belly". I guess it was hereditary.....Arthur had one too. |
kindofabigdeel go to http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mYa5nPxi9i...owsoldface.jpg and you'll see why they had to reshoot the epilogue. The original makeup as Ginny would say was GHASTLY. |

I saw some pictures in an interview Ron gave of the original epilogue. I didn't think he looked like 75 at all. I actually liked how they had him in the original much better and felt it to be way more realistic in appearance than the one they went with. He gained weight and was balding. Looking at my own husband at the same age they were predicting Ron to be, that one was DEAD on. The one they have him as now is in a dream world to still look /that/ good, lol. Also disappointed they dind't show Ted Tonks n the snogging bit, but hoping that will be in an extended version dvd later on along with the first epilogue looks. *reallly hoping for this* It would like getting one more chance to relive something 'new' in HP even after the end. |
This scene was a great closer. It was so simple yet meant so much to the actors, fans, characters, everyone it just ended the series with a great bang.It was brilliantly done an I love Albus' innocence an not wanting to let Harry, his father down. I am disappointed though, that they didn't get much lines,Rupert only had "Here they come" an pour Bonnie had no line... Anyways..Every time I watch this scene I tell myself not to cry,but I end up crying.I also ask the camera to not "focus in" on the main four actors..I mean..It only makes it less bearable an crushes my heart more. |

It would have been just depressing to see Ron that way. Like he's ready to die right after the final shot. In the new version it at least looks like there's plenty of years ahead! |
i really loved the epilogue scene...this has been the scene i had been waiting for so long...wish it had been longer but yes showed exactly what David said the life comes back to a full circle... I am glad that they re-shot the final scene because the earlier ones were really just too old... I liked the way even the three of them acted...it was just amazing Hermione worried over Rose's luggage asking if she has packed everything. it was really really like a mum would do...that was really touching...and even the way they dressed up all four of them...it was nice... And i liked what David said... Quote:

I was dissapointed with the lack of Teddy. There really was alot they cut out, but part 2 was the best with following the story line. HP will live on forever! |

Awwwwww, I love this epilogue. |
awesome pictures! I love the epilogue |
LOVE these pics that are so great |
The third picture is the best! I love Harry & Albus Severus. |
Great epilogue, missed Teddy though :( was looking forward to seeing him, everything else is great :D |
I really enjoyed the epilogue, wished it was longer though! :-) |
I loved how Hugo was the spitting image of rupes. ;) and the little snuggle he gave him at the end. |
They did do a great job " aging them up" . Now we need to wait 15 years and see what the trio looks like. |
Can't wait to watch it again on my dvd ;) All the photos are so sweet! They've done a pretty good job. |
weeeeeeeeeee !! great , legendary, epic , sublime, magical ! |

Nice pictures. I hope we get to see the other ending they filmed! |
I still think that the aging process was exaggerated. The quartet looks a lot older than the age they're supposed to be. Bue, qué será, será. Nothing to be done now, and it certainly is much, much better than what we got the first time we saw papparazzi images of the epilogue. That photo of Harry hugging Al? Precelesss! beautiful. Pretty much what, in my opinion, saves the whole scene. |
Epilogue could've been better, a few extra minutes with a bit more dialogue. But the fact that 'Leaving Hogwarts' was played as it faded to black....*begins to weep loudly* |
i miss harry potter, :( HP is great movies and books |
i cried at this scene soo hard in the movie. I even cried the third time i saw the movie because it gets me everytime. The music and the realization that my childhood ended was too great for me. I loved watching the films and seeing them have children and move on with their lives was fantastic! <3, long live the boy who lived <3 |
I enjoyed watching the epilogue ,I thought it was brilliantly done. |
I love the last picture of the trio, but so sad :'( |

I absolutely loved the epliogue, they looked convincingly older; the makeup, and effects were perfectly done. I'm very pleased about how it turned out, the only thing I regret is that they didn't add more conversation to it! |
They did such a fantastic job of ageing Dan, Rupert & Emma (and of course the others) - this moment really made me cry, its one of the best moments in the film! :) |
"...But we made it to the train station together." Excuse me while I go bawl my eyes out... Shannon :hello: |
I still want to see what it originally looked like. |
I loved the movie so much, and the epilogue was good...but I had a certain attachment to that final shot of the three of them at Hogwarts. It was so intimate to everything they had been through together. I almost wished they had left it at that. |
I was waitinng for James to run around a corner and go "Teddys snogging Victorie!" lol xx |
this movie/book put were both amazing, put everything together in the end. i honestly cant say anything negitive about this movie it was perfect to the book, i couldn't have asked for better honestly. and the truth is i dont want it all to end, i wish it could just keep going. |
Also wish Harry would have at least put his arm around Ginny or something he seems so distant from everyone. I know they want it to be that he stands out a little but jeez you're waving good bye to your kids for the school year! Maybe that is just me. |
Ron looked about 45 and like he enjoyed his food too much.....i did not think one could have as many wrinkles in the mid 30s as Harry and Ron did. |
I loved loved loved the Epilogue. I thought it was done amazingly and it really hit me hard when I saw all 3 of them grown up with their families and sending their children off to Hogwarts. The music was just...*speechless*. They couldn't have chosen a better music piece to play for the final scene. I thought Dan, Emma, and Rupert played their part brilliantly :) I am soo glad they didn't cast 'strangers' to close the series, it had to be them. If anything, I wish they had made it a bit longer and maybe chosen a better angle for the very last shot of when they zoomed in on the trio because they sort of cut Ron off. Anyway, the Epilogue is one of my favourite scenes in the movie :D |
I loved the epilogue! the only I wish they had done is Teddy kissing Victoire!! hehe love the couple :) |
I love how Hermione looks exactly the same, Ron has now established himself a stomach and Ginny just makes me laugh. In saying all that Harry Potter looks perfect! |
I wanted to cry so much in this scene! |
Yeah, too bad that Hermione was the only one who didnt age as opposed to Ginny who seemed to have aged by 5 yrs more than the ones she is suppose to be younger than! Too bad that they still couldnt get the movie epilogue right. Looking forward the the HBO miniseries of HP. Sorry, I am saying it. |
